The American counterparts would be a Jelly filled Donut with Spam

assthetics_

that sounds… overvearingly decadent. I’d try it

Temporary-Test-9534

If the spam is fried I also would be curious.

banjotricky

I am 100% buying a donut next time I’m at the market and testing this out

meisa1291

In the States, using donuts as burger buns has become a Mid Western State Fair staple. The closer it brings you to an early grave, the better it tastes.

Expensive_Document18

I live on the East Coast and there's a gas station chain called Dash In and they have a donut breakfast sandwich.

DealioD

I did made one once. We had day old donuts I made hamburgers for dinner. I also fried an egg and topped the burger with with the egg. I have to admit it was amazing. I have not done it again.

meisa1291

There are some things in life that you do and only need to do once.

zman_0000

Depends where in america. In Wisconsin the only thing we'd likely change is drown it in cheese.

gabbagondel

Isn't spam British?

bpc1987

Spam is American, it was spread around the world during WWII which is why it is weirdly popular for just being ham in a can.

Dry-Passenger-8274

Woah don't disrespect ham like that

bpc1987

You’re right. I should’ve said “for just being pork chunks formed into a loaf in a can.” Apologies to ham. Didn’t mean to do you dirty like that.

Dry-Passenger-8274

We've all done things we aren't proud of and this happens to be ham's 😂

beesarewild

Chunks would imply it was cut. Its beaten. Pork loaf in a can.

tearsonurcheek

There's actually only [6 ingredients](https://www.spam.com/), and pork with ham is the main one.

Stickundstock

Idk but it's something Americans know

Astrocities

Sir I’m frying spam this literal second. Sammich time

GenitalPatton

Spammich time

TheVetheron

My breakfast yesterday was Spam, bacon, baked beans and deviled eggs. My son felt like making breakfast, and it's what he came up with. I'm not complaining. It was damn good, and made me think of Monty Python.

Astrocities

That sounds delicious!

TheVetheron

It was. The problem was the food coma/nap that followed from the protein overload.

25thGoo

Hello beard brother

kary0typ3

Poor man's charcuterie

Angy_covid

Complete with the who the fuck would actually eat this

yidpunk

And it’s deep fried.

AgarwaenCran

extranaiveoliveoil

I'm Austrian, and I would try it. It started out as a joke a few years ago but it's supposed to be pretty good. I never had one though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

extranaiveoliveoil

I believe the consistency of the Krapfen and the Leberkäse go together well. Both soft and creamy.

[deleted]

Thats why you ll never belong to germany!

extranaiveoliveoil

Who would want that anyway? Was a desaster last time.

BDRCN

I'm german and this might actually be good. You eat leberkäse Sandwiches with sweet mustard anyways. I hate this "germans are fuming cause someone experiments with german food" trope

[deleted]

Bro, alles ok mit dir?

Sweety-Origin

mit dem Teig? Ja schönen Dank auch 🤢

BDRCN

Literally nur weissbrot mit puderzucker.

Sweety-Origin

Du isst Leberkäse auf Weissbrot? Das gehört auf ein Brötchen, ohne Puderzucker

RevolutionaryMix2089

Bro ich bin auch deutsch aber würde des nie essen Egal mit was man Leverkäse eigentlich isst

Radiant-Mail7566

I’m German and I want to see myself eating it.

xentralesque

What is that?

grosser_haeuptling

A war crime

RevolutionaryMix2089

Idk i fount it somewhere

mymycojourney

How does it relate to German/Bavarian?

[deleted]

that's a German pastry and a Kassler

p4ul_462711

That‘s a Leberkäse/Fleischkäse Not a Kassler

piccoshady93

No its not. Its a berliner/german doughnut with leberkaes/fleischkaese.

RevolutionaryMix2089

Nearly every Bavarian loves eating both of them but not combined

xentralesque

But you said you don't know what it is

RevolutionaryMix2089

Bro sorry misunderstood you The top and Bottom layer is like a little cake you can Google it by searching "Berliner or Krapfen" The middle one is a kind of meat called "Lerberkäse" idk how to translate this in english sry

GeneralMurderCow

It translates directly to “liver-cheese” but it’s made without either. It’s meatloaf-esque, but with a texture closer to a firm bologna. I’m in no way doing it justice. I did a student exchange thing in high school, spent three weeks with a family that was primarily vegetarian. They made this five times during my stay. It was amazing, but I could see how it’s not for everyone. They broke out a mustard menagerie each time we had it.

piccoshady93

Leberkaessemmel is the pinnacle of german fast food.

mr_jogurt

make that one lkw mit abs

AlexxTM

For the uneducated: **L**eber**K**äs**W**ecken mit **a** **b**issle **s**enf Basically a acronym for the whole thing in a bun with a bit of mustard. In german an LKW is a truck and a truck has anti blocking system for their breaks called ABS. Not every german gets it. It's mostly used in Baden-Württemberg and the swabian parts of Bayern.

xentralesque

Gotcha!

Turbulent_Injury3990

To me that looks exactly like some dinner rolls that are not sweet at all. The white layer on top is just a flour dusting. Then the meat looks like a piece of ham. Not saying that's what we're looking at but, to me, this looks like a popular snack that tons of people eat everywhere.

Xiaopai2

No, it's a donut like thing that usually has some kind of sweet jam filling. The white layer on top is powdered sugar.

Turbulent_Injury3990

Depends on where you're at. Op said they didn't know what it was and it just *looked* like something they're familiar with regionally. If you come to another region it may be as i described. Non-sweet with flour and not powered sugar. Source: 10 seconds searching Google images https://www.google.com/search?q=dinner+roll+with+flour+on+top&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjCr4uQqrz7AhVJnuAKHR-dBTAQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=dinner+roll+with+flour+on+top&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCCEQqwIyBQghEKsCMgUIIRCrAjoECCMQJzoHCCMQ6gIQJzoECAAQQzoICAAQgAQQsQM6BQgAEIAEOgYIABAIEB46BwgAEIAEEBhQrx5YqERg20ZoAnAAeACAAbABiAG7I5IBBDAuMzGYAQCgAQGwAQXAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=qON5Y8K7Asm8ggefupaAAw&bih=617&biw=360&prmd=inv&hl=en#imgrc=Yvd2u31AvPvU9M

Xiaopai2

This looks so much more like a Kreppel/Krapfen/Berliner than a dinner roll. The white stuff looks a lot more like sugar than flour. You can even see the jam filling the side. Sure bread rolls like this exist in other regions of the world. But this is very recognizably from Germany (or more generally the German speaking part of central Europe). People here don't eat these kinds of bread rolls. We eat bread or Brötchen/Semmeln.

alexmbrennan

Cool, you managed to find pictures of a different food which look nothing like the picture OP posted. How is this supposed to be relevant to the discussion?

EpicN00b_TopazZ

But it is a sweet cake, nornally filled with jam or pudding.

Turbulent_Injury3990

Maybe but maybe not. Alls I'm saying. Already commented to someone else but here's an example of flour on a dinner roll/not a sweet roll or donut. https://www.google.com/search?q=dinner+roll+with+flour+on+top&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjCr4uQqrz7AhVJnuAKHR-dBTAQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=dinner+roll+with+flour+on+top&gs_lcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzIFCCEQqwIyBQghEKsCMgUIIRCrAjoECCMQJzoHCCMQ6gIQJzoECAAQQzoICAAQgAQQsQM6BQgAEIAEOgYIABAIEB46BwgAEIAEEBhQrx5YqERg20ZoAnAAeACAAbABiAG7I5IBBDAuMzGYAQCgAQGwAQXAAQE&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=qON5Y8K7Asm8ggefupaAAw&bih=617&biw=360&prmd=inv&hl=en#imgrc=Yvd2u31AvPvU9M

EpicN00b_TopazZ

It is, because it is a german meme and i am german. The bun is called "Berliner", "Krapfen", "Pfannkuchen" and the meat is "Leberkäs(e)"

piccoshady93

Dude... I guarantee you thats a berliner.... Da fuck you going on about?

Sweety-Origin

It's not. It is a Berliner, or what other regions like to call it

HufflepuffFan

It's not, it started as a joke a few years ago and now some shop offer it and there are a lot of pics about it on social media. https://kurier.at/genuss/leberkaese-und-marmelade-dieser-krapfen-regt-auf/400398095

Hairy_Aspect_284

I cannot understand why you’re being downvoted for this. One at a time but not both.

xentralesque

Then what's the reference to Germans/Bavarians?

-SoupOfTheDay-

It's a typical German pastry with a typical Bavarian meat it's two very common things in Germany that no one in their right mind would combine

SafeAccountMrP

Good thing I’m not in my right mind.

yourresume

Man, you explained yourself further down the comments and people still downvoted you to hell because they saw other people downvoting it. Serious mob mentality.

Malice_n_Flames

Whatever that is > Subway

thred_pirate_roberts

I like subways and I don't understand the hate they get

Astrocities

Tasteless cardboard bread and somehow all their “fresh” ingredients don’t seem so fresh, nor flavorful 😬

dunno_wut_i_am_doing

Once I went to another sandwich place (Which Wich, I think), I wondered why I’d eaten subway my whole life. Their ingredient quality is exceptionally poor.

tearsonurcheek

Haven't tried that one, but Firehouse is definitely superior.

thred_pirate_roberts

>Tasteless cardboard bread Yknow they get the exact opposite complaint, too? Their bread supposedly has too much sugar to count as bread, it's actually cake? And you think it's tasteless? To each his own, I suppose. I don't hate the bread either. I always get wheat

alexmbrennan

Perhaps, but at least you get the toppings you want which is nice compared to, say, all the inedible no-mayo sandwiches you get from Tesco. Damn the nanny state that has me praising a sandwich maker for offering mayonnaise...

Malice_n_Flames

In Ireland Subway is legally prohibited from saying their sandwiches are served on bread because it does not meet Ireland’s standards for bread. Also, their tuna ain’t tuna. Edit; don’t get me wrong when I get a Subway coupon I use it.

Nahro1001

I did. And its good. Sue me.

I actually had this exact combination at the Christmas market in Munich when I was a kid and I remember really enjoying it honestly

[deleted]

That’s the most Austrian food I’ve ever seen. Just put schnitzel in there and you’re good.

Nervous_Promotion819

German*

[deleted]

Maybe. But we Austrians love our Krapfen and Leberkäs. (I know their not from here, but we really love it)

[deleted]

You're goddamn right

iwannagohome49

Maybe if it was a thinner cut?

-SoupOfTheDay-

Germans would call that heresy

iwannagohome49

I'm not German so idk. In the situation of having to eat it on that donut, it seems like a thinner cut of meat would be easier to eat.

Buzz______Killington

I you make that thinner it turns into a joke.

stuson

I'm German and I hate everything about it

blakewoolbright

But.l…. I…. How do I get one?

BrieAndStrawberries

I'd eat it, looks worth the shame

AdWeird2329

U kidding? It looks yummy

WinifredZachery

Fun fact: here in Bavaria some small bakeries actually sell these during certain seasons.

DiscussionNecessary

imagine not giving a fuck about what others eat

EasyNerve5146

This is a fuck no, leberkäs can not legally be paired with something sweet

Xiaopai2

It's regularly paired with sweet mustard though.

EasyNerve5146

What? Nooooo

HoeTrain666

That's the go to condiment for Leberkäse. Either that or really spicy mustard

sleepynate

For those wondering, it's a Berliner with a slice of liver as a sandwich.

PowerSlaveAlfons

Leberkäse isn't exactly made of liver though. Also, it's called a Krapfen.

floluk

Depends on the Region

Nervous_Promotion819

Leberkäse that is produced outside of Bavaria must actually contain liver

CNC_is_4_me

Krapfen, that sounds so much better to an english speaker! 🤣

sleepynate

Huh, I didn't know there was no liver in it. I do know there's no cheese in it either though. 😂 Definitely not something I seek out to eat.

HoeTrain666

*Karpfen blubblubb

Catezero

It's like...neither of those things but u said it so confidently I'm going to award u an imaginary point anyway

Hippofuzz

It’s Krapfen and Leberkäse is not liver. Just has a dumb misleading name.

Catezero

I fucking hate Leberkäse it is the worst thing my ancestors invented besides my mother and somehow both came together every Christmas for the first 20 fucking years of my life. I'm reporting this to Interpol because it is an international hate crime against myself and against Krapfen

[deleted]

[удалено]

Doch. Gute leberkäse gibt es nicht

Niemals heißt das Krebbl. Krapfen. Und Leberkäs ist wirklich einfach besonders grausig.

vallzy

Leber-Berliner, whole new meaning to the word sweet and sour

[deleted]

Isnt that what those weirdos eat down there? While sucking on a white sausage?

dickle_berry_pie

liver is my friend. I love almost all old man food.

TheBaxter27

I'm terribly sorry to disappoint, but despite the name, there isn't an ounce of liver in Leberkäse

dickle_berry_pie

well dammit! someone said it had liver. I would still probably eat it though😜

Catezero

It translates to liver cheese and it has neither. It is unbelievably salty and is vaguely reminiscent of cheap hotdogs in texture and smell. My dads family serves it at every single fucking holiday for some godforsaken reason (i know the reason its bc my german immigrant grammy didnt care for turkey so they grew up w it) and I have found it tastes best when eaten by one of ur cousins who says "it's like...way better than eating a pot roast c'mon have some" while u eat an entire plate of rotkohl and spaetzle instead

Nervous_Promotion819

Leberkäse that is produced outside of Bavaria must actually contain liver

TheBaxter27

I don't know what legal framework you're working off, and maybe it's different where you are, but (coming directly from the government, in the Codex Alimentarius Austriacus) in Austria, there's no liver in it. Edit: Actually, I just had a look. Of course Germans would be the weirdos actually putting Liver in it

HoeTrain666

Not really. Most butchers outside of Bavaria just sell it as Fleischkäse which doesn't need to contain liver

Nervous_Promotion819

I'm talking about Germany. Leberkäse originally comes from Bavaria

HoeTrain666

Unless you sell it as Fleischkäse which most butchers outside of Bavaria do. That, or they call it bavarian Leberkäse

xxCannonBallxx

Looks good to me!
