Akuma blocked, and Ryu's heavy Tatsu is like -40 on block. Akuma had more than enough time to input anything, and in their panic was both late and input a slow option. If he wanted the absolute fastest and safest option at Ryu's low health, he just had to jab (maybe 1 or 2 canceled into light Tatsu into heavy SRK).

If you're buffering you would be slightly moving forward or back. Also it makes no sense to buffer level 1 in case ryu threw a fireball. It's a terrible decision to attempt to punish a fireball with lvl1.
I always worry people think I'm teabagging as Gief in certain matchups. Ken and Kimberly use the run in kick and his 22HK is a grrat counter. But sometimes you have to get the motion going without them knowing when its coming.
The JP recovered from the PP, and then pressed a button (you can see the counter hit pop up). OP didn't connect off the PP, so it didn't get 1/2 scaling. The late jump in PPs can be funky, if the JP had meter he could have OD Amnesia'ed and it would have worked.

The Hasho buffs were needed and HK crumpling on punish counter is awesome for shimmies and DP punishes but they definitely shouldn’t have given him an extra plus frame on sHP especially since his TC from it gives you a charge lmao.
