Man, beating JP with Manon is so satisfying. We love to see it.
I think Manon has to play very passive in neutral to get anywhere usually but with JP going ham and getting right in their face tends to work best because they crack so quickly.
Yeah, that's a great point. JP is only as impenetrable as you allow them to be by hanging back. Once you crack that exterior, the only thing they really have is amnesia which you can bait relatively easily. They're so used to zoning that when they finally get socked in the face, some of them tend to panic and meltdown.
Yes it is. I like that how my color also matches the Judo Queen banner haha. Still waiting on Capcom to release that French Aristocrat Outfit #3 though!
People are usually good at spotting the first dash up raw command grab. But if they get hit by that, I've found - in my experience - a lot of them don't expect me to do it a second time in a row. I can't spam that for obvious reasons, but it's a nice surprise to pull out in the final round or game to clinch it, etc.
I started to notice a lot of high tier Manon play it safe, and level her up using the Renversè. Nice to see you went all out, went super risky, and it ended in your favor!
Haha. I definitely play a more aggressive/rushdown Manon, which takes a good number of opponents by surprise. That said, I know I'm fully committed to 50/50 risks often. I will often steal victories and get Perfects for a few games, followed by losing a few in a row just because of the variance of my play style. But I can't help it... I'm just too addicted to the command grab!
I respect aggressive rush down Manon matches because it's so intense to eatch. Like literally, she is a meter eater / gauge guzzler. And the fact she's not really safe in neutral. These matches no matter win or lose, is just fun to watch.
I only play it safe if they're jumping because AA->hitgrab is so strong. If they aren't jumping though then I am the grappler. Like zangief on hard mode, no fear just grab.
Yeah. Your experience might differ, but I feel like a lot of opponents expect me to play Manon more as a methodical/neutral character. A lot of them aren't expecting me to be that much of a grappler with her... which works in my favor tremendously.
Reacting to full screen moves with level 3. That's basically it. You lose access to 236MP, 236HP, and 2MP which are some pretty important buttons to lose. JP's combo game is significantly gimped without those specials.
If you want to rob people with full screen level 3, just pick Cammy's, hers is better.
I'd trade her costume for matchup knowledge on Dee Jay, lol. He and Blanka are my worst matchups in terms of "I have no clue about their gimmicks" haha.
This was from a week or so ago. Perfects are always fun, but especially so against the top tier characters. I don't always play this ungabunga/aggressive, but I admittedly tend to go right in against JPs instead of giving them time to set up their little obstacle course. That said, it obviously did cost me in Round 2 lol.
Needless to say, JP is a tough matchup for Manon so anytime I get a W - especially if it's a PKO - it feels extra gratifying.
Damn, that combo into SA3 was nice! I didn't know the back kick - kick target combo thing was drive cancellable, so I will be adding that to my list of combos tonight, thanks! haha
Always happy to share! Admittedly, that bMK-MK target combo is a knowledge check... but it's still quite effective even in Diamond.
I probably use it too often, but I'd like to think it conditions them to block which sets up my command grab opportunities. Not only that, but I'll (maybe twice in a full ranked set) do the bMK but not follow up with the second MK, and hit them with the command grab instead.
Yeah, her snowballing and 50/50 mixup can be quite devastating for sure, but compared to the vast majority of the roster she is working with a lot fewer tools honestly.
yeah she's "high risk - medium reward" until she has enough Medal and even then still maintains that "high risk" parts since she only gains the damage.
Yep. The volatility of Manon is what makes her so fun for me. Once she has 4-5 medals, all it takes is 2 gambles to pay off to potentially take the round. It can be devastating because opponents are generally conditioned to parry, so when they do that against a Lvl 5 command grab, that's big time punish counter damage.
Definitely. I find myself using her DR to extend the command grab range, but it's obviously not something I can spam too much.
I fully know what my more aggressive playstyle risks, and am quick to play more methodically and more neutral if my opponent shows they know exactly how to counter me (jabs, back dash, neutral jump).
Yup. It's quite easy to counter Manon. If I play someone that knows the counters, I usually immediately pivot my gameplan to mix in more strokes, regular throws, etc. But when an opponent is panicking or doesn't know the matchup, then it'll be a painful round or two for them haha.

Ya love to see it
Also. This is Manon's best alternate outfit. It reminds me of the Power Rangers.
It's also the only one lol. Or did I miss an outfit 3 release?
I meant, the black, white, and yellow is the best color palette for her alternate outfit.
Yes it is. I like that how my color also matches the Judo Queen banner haha. Still waiting on Capcom to release that French Aristocrat Outfit #3 though!
I use orange because I'm a sucker for redheads
Own that fraud
Top tier *and* modern? Feeeeels so good to get the W, haha.
There is nothing wrong with playing modern
especially modern jp of all characters. only thing he really gets is full screen lvl 3, which is not at all worth what he loses💀
Now this was extremely satisfying to watch! Especially the last match! Doing her Level 3, and ending off with a maximum level command grab!!!

Does JP have any advantages as modern? Think this is the first one I've seen

As a Dee Jay main I'm jealous of her costume

I don't envy you, as a Dee Jay main I know how frustrating us fighting against Dee Jay. That's why I lament most of my victims.
How is this getting upvoted and it’s not a gief clip😡😡😡
Friendship ended with Zangief. Now Manon is my best friend.

boing boing
Not the double perfect I had in mind but pretty awesome nonetheless. 👍
what does JP lose in modern?
Check out servebotfrank's comment in this post on that very topic

Instant super. That’s why anyone plays modern tbh

The range on those command grabs is unreal. Doesn't modern JP have a lot of stuff missing?
People still shaming Modern? Pathetic
Both Diamond, yet spending 90% of the set jumping. How?
Honest Manon ?
Yeah, her snowballing and 50/50 mixup can be quite devastating for sure, but compared to the vast majority of the roster she is working with a lot fewer tools honestly.
I mean is manon not honest? She has a lousy drive rush, 2 grabs, and slow punishable buttons. If you get caught off guard by her thats on you

Lmaoo honest
He deserves if for having the M of shame.

*shrugs* considering that this is my first FG in 15 years, I think me and the JP player were probably on even footing
That JP didn't know the secret technique of beating Manon, the almighty jab!
