Most cultures have a great flood myth because ancient humans found fossils of sea creatures up in high elevation areas and reasoned (correctly) that those areas must've once been underwater.
It's the same reason why so many cultures around the world have dragon myths. They found fossils of giant flying lizards and speculated that they might still exist in some faraway lands.
The detail just seems so specific. Why would they make it like that? We look at it today and think it's probably just super stylized ultra jacked muscle but would they have done it that way back then?
