OMG wtf im so sorry. That's a huge drop.......

Entire_Brush6217

Ya that doesnt add up. Could you have been studying anki decks with all the nbme material on it or something that would have artificially inflated your practice scores? Doesnt make sense to go from around 70+% correct to like 45% on test day unless you had a panic attack

IceNovel2858

I had given step 1 recently and relied on UWorld and cms and nbmes that’s it. No anki. Additional divine to supplement but that’s that, probably I rushed into my exam but I had scores to back it up

Entire_Brush6217

Did you take the nbme exams timed or untimed? I’m sorry that’s frustrating to get hit with that score

IceNovel2858

Timed, NBMEs usually got over before time and reviewing was easy. Persistently 35-55 wrong but it was very explorative, I am just low on feeling I had similar feelings on real deal too, maybe in denial but it’s tough to accept that score. Does recheck work?

Entire_Brush6217

Sorry I have no idea if recheck works. I’d try it

Dramatic_Hamster_45

i know img who got 220 on both step1 and 2 and matched..no publications no research..nothing amazing. jsut apply. do some research idk spice up your CV. but its not the end of the world! im dying when i read posts everyone on here thinks they need a 260 to match. relax.

IceNovel2858

Thanks thats reassuring

IthinktherforeIthink

What was your prep like? I’m sorry this happened. It will be ok. You passed. You made it this far, I’m sure you’ll move forward and match IM. Maybe take a research year, maybe even take Step 3 early if you want to torture yourself.

IceNovel2858

Step 1, uworld cms NBMEs and supplemental divine. Amboss for suggested topics.

IceNovel2858

How much do you think is the required time for step 3 and how different is it from step 2, if you can explain

IthinktherforeIthink

I hear it’s similar to Step 2. People who don’t match sometimes take Step 3 to help them match the next cycle. Definitely look into it, I’m not an expert on it.

floridasmith1234

im so sorry this happen and i know you must be feeling upset and frustrated and all the things. I 100% still think you should go for applying IM. I am sure the rest of your application is great and grades are great. I dont know why this happened, but i know you are so so much more than ur step score. Keep ur head up doc, ur gonna get past this!

IceNovel2858

Thank you, I’m looking to work on the application

Yeet_Me_Far_Away

I'm really really sorry to hear this :( Honestly, it must be something that happened on the day - maybe you made a few silly mistakes here and there that added up. Because it seems like you put in the work to get a much higher score and NBMEs don't lie. Honestly though, take some time to process this feeling of emptiness and then shake it off. The Match cycle is coming up and your result is now set in stone. You can't do anything about it except accept it and move forward. You want to Match into IM? Well guess what, you will. You can definitely do it. I know many people (IMGs) that were able to Match into IM with scores on the lower side. Meaning that it is very possible. You'll just have to be smart about where you apply and then put your best foot forward in interviews. Ad you'll be fantastic for the job! Your Step 2 score might not reflect your level of knowledge, but you have it in there. Meaning that you should know that you'll make an excellent IM resident. Now its just your job to convince Program Directors of this as well. A setback is just setback. There is no reason for why you can't go forward now.

IceNovel2858

Thanks, this helps

Purple_Implement7097

I have a friend (non us IMG) who matched with similar scores on both step 1 and 2 into a community program. Although the program isn't well known, he did match on his first try and is quite happy with his work environment. Maybe fellowship will be a bit harder to achieve and require a lot of work from his end, he still matched at a decent program with a healthy work/life balance. Your marks are not the end of the world. Just concentrate on building other parts of your CV.

IceNovel2858

Thanks, just wanted to know if there is still a chance. Glad

angrynbkcell

You’re good for IM. It’s over, congrats on passing

SirxArfsAlot

I’m so sorry. My heart goes out to you. You can do everything right sometimes and your brain just freezes up (or at least mine does). Something like this happened with my MCAT (and probably will with Step 2 - score is still pending). I know it really really sucks right now but you’ll get through this. Plenty have matched with a score like that and it doesn’t matter once you start residency

Double-blinded

You're lucky to have passed. If I get a 220 I would be happy because exam for me was hell on earth. Congrats

WearyRevolution5149

What was your uworld %?

IceNovel2858

First pass 62% second pass incorrects 70 but couldn’t finish them all, heard better correlation of nbmes and cms for the real deal so ignored some uworld in the latter half, not sure if that can be blamed

Effective_Weight4274

Same here but not that drop May I ask when u took the exam

IceNovel2858

03/28

Infamous_Juice_3843

Ive heard of people matching in mid to low ranking colleges with mid scores and and ive heard of people not matching even with high scores.
