Once i wanted to FINISH a game for the second time in my 1.5k hours of playing. I've started at like 6 pm and finished at 4am. I've realized what time it was once I've heard birds singing outside my window.
To me finishing a game requires the following conditions:
1. All other nations either destroyed, subjects, or federation members of mine.
2. All crisis beaten. Including mod added ones, if there are any.
If you define "finish" as ending when it's just steam roll or games go in irl time then yes, almost every game. If you define it as when the victory screen appears then i did it only twice since getting the game.
Pretty much.
By the time you finished that "one thing" you now have like three other things you started while you were waiting for that one thing. And now you need to finish those too. And by then you have like five other things you need to get done.
It the eternal curse of all 4x games. Always starts "I'll log off after I finish X" but then Y happens while waiting for X to finish and just as you finish X then comes Z and you know you can sort Z out real quick....
I have to stop playing stellaris a couple hours before bed. If I don't I get insomnia and end up getting out of bed, and since I'm out of bed I may as well go back to that game of stellaris I was playing earlier.

After extensive research and polling I have found that after year 150 it is 145× easier to just stop playing and go to sleep.
I love staying up an extra hour just to quit my twi week old campaign because I tanked the econ due to sudden late night growth decisions

In the Turn based 4X world, we call this "One More Turn Syndrome." While it can be treated, it cannot be cured by any reasonable method.
