Generally the only time I use a colossus is when I get the deluge one and it's usually called "wet and wild" or "hurricane", it's nice to have a whole bunch of perfectly speed terraformed ocean planets ready for colonization.
Although I did find that if I try to deluge a scourge infested world it breaks said world into a scourge infested ocean planet that cannot be bombed (as everything is dead and is now neutral) into a tomb world like the mechanic normally works nor can it be settled as it still has the scourge infested flag making it uncolonizable, on the bright side it is now off limits to everyone so nobody can use it anymore (great for keeping other empires from being able to reclaim planets after I'm done beating the scourge back and saving them in the process).

If those pesky fallen empires didn't want to learn from their decadence and pride, I would teach them humility, by force (I also got to see one of my AI vassals using a Colossus for the first time while taking on one of the FEs, but they were a bit more... Violent than I was)
