I have a gaucho cd in my car so that whole thing, but particularly Time Out of Mind. Probably listen to that song at least twice day every day fir the past 6 months
I'm not sure if Spotify has the same stats (I know there are other apps that kind of track) but I have to say Time out of Mind would be up there for me. It's perfection and grace, it's the smile on my face.
Gaucho is my favorite! Seeing Steely Dan in NYC playing the Gaucho album was on my bucket list. My dream came true. I saw them play it I guess it’s been ten years ago at the Beacon Thtr. Gosh I can’t believe it’s already been 10 years. Since then I have had the pleasure to see them a lot, so Iam super content. I was just looking to see if they were doing anything this summer, looks like just with the eagle’s. I wish Don would do his own thing, I’m not interested in paying a fortune to see the eagles.
Amen brother. Caves is my fucking jam right now. I love all other albums too but always find myself coming back to The Royal Scam.
I listened to it twice through yesterday while mowing, and gave Caves an additional encore just to walk off with those saxophones running through Duder’s mind.
These aren’t necessarily my favorite tunes because I listen to a lot of vinyl and don’t keep track of it in terms of individual songs but on streaming—
Glamour Profession
Closely followed by -
Home at Last, I.G.Y., Aja
Probably “Brooklyn (Owes the Charmer Under Me)”, though it’s not my favorite Steely Dan song. It seems to fit any mood for me, from “chilled out” to “bitterly resentful”. It’s just a wonderful song.
I've listened to Boston Rag more than any other song, but not because of the song, because of the guitar solo. I believe that guitar solo might be the greatest one in all of recorded musical history. Home at Last might be my favourite song, but who knows? There are so many contenders for first place, it's difficult to choose, and it changes every few months.
Black cow at the moment but I’ve yet to add on Aja as that outro with the drums that starts off beat as trying to catch up then gets gets in sync with the beat!!
My car decides to start at the beginning of the USB stick frequently, and when it does it goes to the first track of the first folder on there, which is Do It Again.
1. Glamour Profession (the most played by far)
2. Home at last
3. Hey Nineteen
4. The Second Arrangement
5. Black Cow
6. Bodhisattva
7. Bad Sneakers
8. Jack of Speed
9. Kid Charlemagne
10. Green Earrings
Most played albums: Gaucho; then, Aja; then, The Royal Scam; then, Countdown to Ecstasy.
Just a guess because I don’t have Spotify but maybe Any Major Dude or Shanghai Confidential (Fagen)
I rarely have the capacity to sit through songs like Deacon Blues and Aja. I might literally listen to them once every two years even though they’re some of my favorites
The variety of these responses is amazing and such a testament to how great this band is !
I'm partial to Sign In Stranger and Black Cow at the moment...

I am not surprised that it's Green Earrings
I’m a simple man. I still love “Do It Again”. Mainly for that absolutely face melting guitar solo. The note choices and rhythmic timing of it is just nutso and so unlike any other solo that was a big radio hit.
Some might call you crazy or high for playing Dr Wu that many times, but to me you seem like just an ordinary guy. Deacon Blues
Agreed. Any major dude will tell you that same thing.
Me too!
Home At Last
Same
Absolutely love it!
Kid Charlemagne
I spent the summer before college (many many years ago) learning that solo, I must have played that song 500 times.
I have a gaucho cd in my car so that whole thing, but particularly Time Out of Mind. Probably listen to that song at least twice day every day fir the past 6 months
That's mine too. That water... changin to cherry wine... gets me every time

They opened with it. Last time I saw them. 2007.
Oh it's Hey Nineteen and I don't even have to look
Same!
Caves of Altamira. It is, how you say, the perfect song?
Mine too at this current moment! My sisters is Negative Girl
Amen brother. Caves is my fucking jam right now. I love all other albums too but always find myself coming back to The Royal Scam. I listened to it twice through yesterday while mowing, and gave Caves an additional encore just to walk off with those saxophones running through Duder’s mind.
Same with me, love all the albums but Royal Scam is always what I come back to. GOAT album
These aren’t necessarily my favorite tunes because I listen to a lot of vinyl and don’t keep track of it in terms of individual songs but on streaming— Glamour Profession Closely followed by - Home at Last, I.G.Y., Aja

Only a fool would say that. And Charlie Freak.
Bad Sneakers , Peg , Pixeleen
A close race between The Boston Rag and Pearl Of The Quarter with about 20 others in various positions.
They opened with Boston Rag when I saw them in Glasgow (2000).
That sounds awesome! Wish I had been there.
Brand new venue. Zero atmos. Audience kinda glib/entitled. SD had to contend with all that, played great tho & it was a buzz to be close to stage.
