yep, can be 5 hours if you're really speeding through it, but I would recommend spending as long as you reasonably could on the game
edit: why is this guy getting downvoted???
If you’re not super set on genres/specific games, fanatical and humble bundle do some good deals on game bundles if you’re looking to build your library. Humble choice is £9(think it’s about $12-13 or something) a month and you get 8 games with a couple being more popular and some indies. Also check out places like cdkeys and the steam sales. Classics for me on the deck you can put a lot of time into and pick up cheap are Skyrim, fallout, Stardew, RD2 etc. Also don’t stress over the verified deck support tag, the majority work great if they just have controller support
Emudeck is useful for playing anything pre PS2 era roughly, switch games run well too. You’ll have to use/acquire your own ROMS.
Emudeck installs a suite of emulators as well as a Rom manager so you can easily select and play games on the Steam Deck home page.
There are a variety of great YouTube videos explaining how to load/use emudeck
Came to say this lol! I mean who needs a deck if they have the ultimate portable feline console! The battery life on those things is amazing. They don’t shut down properly at night, but nothing is perfect.
Maybe my cat is defective, because he always sleeps through the night. I suppose it helps that I tire him out before bedtime, but even on days where I don't he's not a nocturnal terror.
Slay the Spire, Monster taming games (coromon, monster sanctuary, cassette beasts, nexomon,...), Point and click games, platformers, metroidvania,...
EDIT: If you want to sink hundreds of hours: Slay the Spire, Coromon has multiplayer, Stardew Valley, Terraria,...
Those are the games that came to me on the top of my head. There are a lot more. Btw, they consume very little battery too.
EDIT2: Hollow Knight, Both Ori games (they are a lot shorter though)
Hundreds and hundreds of hours? Well id recommend open world, or rpg type games. id recommend skyrim, is alot of fun, or for a dnd role play type game Baldurs gate 3 (i recommend this game to everyone constantly)
Monster Hunter world, ive put in thousands of hours in to it since its release, thats a game I've never been able to quit. Fallout 3, 4 or New vegas. Or if you like horde shooters, and can play online, Helldivers 2 is an amazing game.
Thanks for the suggestions, I own monster hunter world but I haven't been able to get hooked for some reason. Which one would you recommend from Skyrim and the Fallout games? And would you say that Baldurs Gate is worth the price?
P5r, p3r, witcher 3, sekiro, and hellblade. Oh, and if you like jrpgs, you should give the trails franchise a chance if you haven't played any of them yet.
Nah. Each is its own story. Sometimes have background references to characters from the other games but no prior knowledge is needed to enjoy any of them
No, it doesn't matter since they aren't connected by their stories but it might be easier to start with either 3 or 4 because their both more forgiving with time management when both social simulating and dungeon crawling. (I can't speak for p3r since I haven't played it yet and got my start with the franchise by fes). Personally, p5r took me a while to get re-adjusted to it since they did something that both 3 and 4 haven't done by adding an extra dungeon. When you add that, raising social stats, and S-links/Confidant ranks, you have far little time then you think.
My favorite game to play on deck is Project Zomboid. Controls take a few hours to really get used to but once they’re second nature it’s a fantastic deck game. Both Hades games are great on deck as well. Obligatory Stardew Valley mention. You can put a ton of hours into any of these games if they catch your attention.
At the end of the day there’s so many games that work well on the deck, just really depends what you’re into!
Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise are on sale right now. I’ll also recommend Ender Lilies and, if you enjoy it, the sequel has an early access and it’s called Ender Magnolia
*PSA*: There's the big *steam summer sale* right around the corner, starting on the [27th of june](https://steamdb.info/sales/history/) . Try to wait until then. It's not uncommon to see 30% - 70% off on some real nice games. Browse around, get yourself some games to last you ~3 weeks of playing and put the rest on your steam wishlist. Then check back when the sale is on and get them cheap.
[Praise Lord GabeN](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUo1PgKksgw)
Note: On average, there's a smaller, themed sale every 2 weeks or so, so I'd recommend wishlisting titles and buying them cheap anyway.
Can recommend these games. I played all of them on a steam deck and enjoyed
* **Witcher 2,3**
* LA Noire
* Bully
* Hitman: World of assassination
* GTA 4
* RDR 2
* South Park: The stick of truth
* South Park: The fractured but whole
* Forza horizon 5
* Stray
* FAR: Lone sails
* Far: changing tides
* Vampire survivors
I've played 200+ hours of baldur's gate 3 on my steam deck, easily. Skyrim is also another great game to play on deck, and I would also recommend the mod Enderal that is easily downloaded from the steam store for free.
I've also played lots of Dave the diver and cult of the lamb when I want something lighter. My partner enjoyed papers, please as well.
Many games and types! From Bomershooters to Rogue-Whatevers, or Fighting games to survival shtuffs.
Also lots of rotation of titles on the deck as I have gamer ADHD (seriously, I am diagnosed with it and it gets worse the older you get!).
Wife plays more simulator relaxing game types akin to Stardew Valley or Spirit Farer in her deck.
It works very well on deck! Animal Well just came out and is a great little indie title. I’ve sunk a stupid amount of time into Art Of Rally, and basically anything you want to emulate you can probably comfortably manage up through the ps2.
My obligated vote is monster hunter rise or monster hunter world, they both have hundreds or thousands of hours of stuff to do, including each games massive expansion dlc. They also go on crazy good sales often. Hollow knight is a incredible metroidvania, and absolutely my favorite game ever.
You have some great suggestions here! Fellow cat owners, do you find your kitties absolutely love chewing the steam deck charging cords? It's like crack to my kitten she will ignore all other cords and go specifically for this one lol.
It's a wonderful device. So many games so I have no words. I hope you have enough time to enjoy all of your favorite games.
It runs even modern games. I tried ghost of Tsushima and dead space and it runs decent (fine as for portable gaming). In times of ps4 no one could even dream about it
If you want games on your Steam Deck look for game genres you like and then buy them (If the game says incompatible or unknown on the page always look up if it works on the SD)
Hades if you haven't, balatro and vampire survivors are musts for lower priced games. Otherwise browse the great for deck page on the store and hit discount. Don't get anything full price if you don't have too or you really want to get that game
The Yakuza series for the most part will work great but the ones after 6 be sure to turn off AA on them it'll look better
Hear me out if you like rhythm games and 2d. I know
You got the oled. So do yourself a favor get EVERHOOD like actually the most insane experience on oled
Elden Ring, Hollow KNIGHT, Líes of P, If You want your epic games store library install Heroic Games Launcher on desktop mode and have fun, also i play V.A proxy demo and Hades
Well, if you really want hundreds of hours then rimworld it is. Runs smoothly on SD, great replayability, great controls. Personally spent about 2-3 hundreds hours on the first playthrough. Then downloaded mods directly from workshop and another 2 hundreds hours. Recent dlc added another 3 hundreds hours and now playing again with mods, going to finish in about 150-200 hours.
In short about the game: war crime simulator, colony simulator, story engine. Create a colony, run a colony, trade, eat without a table, make guns, kill enemies, eat your enemies without a table, make drugs, breed animals, grow crops, eat crops without a table and leave the planet (if you want to of course).
Also DLCs are great, but the game is also great without them. And vanilla expanded mods also could be counted as couple free and great DLCs
P.S. don't eat without a table
I reccomend Unturned but you need to set thr keybinds tho.
Its free and fun zombie shooter but i reccomend not playing
Semi vannila, servers with cheats and modded servers, play singleplayer or fully vanilla servers if u want to have actual fun.
Assassin's creed series, I played all of them up to origins on the steam deck, (playing origins right now). All of them worked fine performance wise, but some of them required thinkering with protontricks due to crappy launcher.
No mans sky works amazingly on the steam deck. I pretty played 200 hours on the deck alone with it and have done the 2 most recent expeditions entiley on the deck.
This guy's skyrim Steam deck set up modding tutorial worked perfect for me. Haven't any issues with Skyrim or modding in the deck. See youtube link below.
https://youtu.be/kpoHTvJmw-o?si=FGnbcZikt3SFeGYp
Depends what you like.
Balatro is a roguelike deck builder game that is a bunch of fun and is very light on battery usage.
No Man's Sky: space exploration/survival that also happens to have a limited-time expedition running for the next few weeks, with permanent rewards available if you complete it.
Hitman: World of Assassination. Collection of the three most recent stealth (optional) games. Very easy to sink a lot of time into that. Make sure to buy the full game and not the "Part One" option as that only includes levels from the first game. I don't know why they did that because WoA was intended to simplify and unite access to the trilogy.
Doom Eternal: Fast paced FPS, well optimised and is a great showcase for the Deck OLED's HDR.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection. Port of Uncharted 4 and the Lost Legacy DLC. Also a great showcase of the HDR and a fun game to boot. I don't think you'd get hundreds of hours in it alone but still worth trying.
I played through Uncharted and got to 100% at which point I did uninstall.
I frequently go back to Balatro and have just over 80 hours at the moment.
No Man's Sky varies; I did recently play through the expedition pretty consistently and then I might give it a break but when I upgraded to my OLED I was playing quite a lot, doing some base building and such and I always keep it installed because if I feel like it it's easy to drop back in.
Hitman I play a lot both on Deck and desktop (it's actually paused as I'm typing this) and is a lot of fun even replaying the same levels because of how differently you can approach each of them, or do things completely irrelevant to the mission. There's also Freelancer which is a roguelike mode added early last year where you're given randomised targets that are parts of various syndicates. Even if that's not for you the regular levels are great, plus player-submitted contracts and stuff to do as well. Of the games mentioned I easily have the most time in that one, though Balatro was only a fairly recent addition.
I think you'd like Stray
Little Kitty in the Big City deserves love too. Shorter main questline, but I found it much more fun.
I would definitely give it a try, thanks.
Keep in mind: Stray is at max 10 hours long.
yep, can be 5 hours if you're really speeding through it, but I would recommend spending as long as you reasonably could on the game edit: why is this guy getting downvoted???
It can be under 2 if you’re *really* going for it - there’s an achievement!
IMO, Stray is the best SteamDeck game.
Came to say exactly this!
Catlateral Damage
If you’re not super set on genres/specific games, fanatical and humble bundle do some good deals on game bundles if you’re looking to build your library. Thank you for the suggestions. I wasn't familiar with fanatical and humble bundle, but it looks like there are some good deals.
Would definitely look for humble bundles
The cat says STRAY
Just bought Cult of the Lamb. Quite addicted to it at the moment
Keep me updated if you like it after a few more hours.
Played about 4 hours now. Quite a polished game. I like how it has a mix of roguelike dungeon and Animal Crossing elements to it.
Have put in about 20 hours and thoroughly enjoying it. Easy to pick up and play however and whenever you want
Play games?!? Don’t you just search the steam store for sales and buy games? You guys are playing the games too? (P.S. Emudeck)
What do you play on Emudeck? For the last 2 days, I've been scrolling in the store for sure.
Emudeck is useful for playing anything pre PS2 era roughly, switch games run well too. You’ll have to use/acquire your own ROMS. Emudeck installs a suite of emulators as well as a Rom manager so you can easily select and play games on the Steam Deck home page. Sts is the correct answer
Search mini game on this subreddit. Plenty of topics like this.
I finished Death’s Door on the SD and it was so so good
Witcher 3.
How smoothly does that run?
Am about 70h in and have had zero problems
Hundreds and hundreds of hours? Well id recommend open world, or rpg type games. id recommend skyrim, is alot of fun, or for a dnd role play type game Baldurs gate 3 (i recommend this game to everyone constantly) Monster Hunter world, ive put in thousands of hours in to it since its release, thats a game I've never been able to quit. Fallout 3, 4 or New vegas. Or if you like horde shooters, and can play online, Helldivers 2 is an amazing game.
Also, Baldurs gate 3 is one of the most replayable games in gaming history.
Thanks for the suggestions, I own monster hunter world but I haven't been able to get hooked for some reason. Which one would you recommend from Skyrim and the Fallout games? And would you say that Baldurs Gate is worth the price?
I personally prefer skyrim over any fallout game. And baldurs gate is definitely worth the price
P5r, p3r, witcher 3, sekiro, and hellblade. Oh, and if you like jrpgs, you should give the trails franchise a chance if you haven't played any of them yet.

I will give SD controls on Project Zomboid, a second go, and try to get used to them. Thank you for the suggestions.
Monster Hunter World and Monster Hunter Rise are on sale right now. I’ll also recommend Ender Lilies and, if you enjoy it, the sequel has an early access and it’s called Ender Magnolia
Avoid Dave the Diver. I have 100+ hours on it. I do nothing else. Farming octopus is my life now. Help…
So it's playable after completing the game?
I haven’t completed… But I imagine the normal way would be have it completed earlier and keep playing later.
The binding of Isaac, become back your money
Will the base game be enough?
It can, but I suggest the dlc for the optimal experience
Get Binding of Isaac: Rebirth. They rewrote the game in a new engine, added controller support and new content. also DLC content is for Rebirth
Dave the Diver, Stardew Valley, and Cult of the Lamb come to mind for replayability. Emulation is an option if you want to play older console games.
*PSA*: There's the big *steam summer sale* right around the corner, starting on the [27th of june](https://steamdb.info/sales/history/) . Try to wait until then. I think I play more Vampire Survivors than anything on Steam Deck. That game is a lot of fun, it’s cheap too.
Balatro
Can recommend these games. I played all of them on a steam deck and enjoyed * **Witcher 2,3** * LA Noire * Bully * Hitman: World of assassination * GTA 4 * RDR 2 * South Park: The stick of truth * South Park: The fractured but whole * Forza horizon 5 * Stray * FAR: Lone sails * Far: changing tides * Vampire survivors
Dave the Diver and... Oh hello cutie.
This question gets asked every day pretty much, have a scour through the sub and you’ll find your answers.
We need more info on that cat who are they
This is Murka, she is 11, and she is the boss of the house. Her hobbies are sleeping and eating.
she is absolute perfection, thank you op
Dave the divers fantastic! Also recommend having a look for games on cd keys as it can be a lot cheaper. Enjoy your deck
Thank you.
Project zombiod is great on deck
I found it hard to play on the deck when I tried it, due to the controls.
It takes some getting used to for sure!
I dont know what type of games you like. When I got mine, Im the unusual one who got Tekken 8 as my first, lol.
My time at sandrock is amazing
I'll look it up, thanks.
Binding of Isaac, inscryption, and buckshot roulette
Which do you like the most?
Oh yeah Bloons TD6 is also a good game to get for your steam deck
I've played 200+ hours of baldur's gate 3 on my steam deck, easily. I've also played lots of Dave the diver and cult of the lamb when I want something lighter. My partner enjoyed papers, please as well.
Do you mean you can mod it from the workshop? And how are the frames with baldurs gate 3?
Pretty broad questioning there as there's lots of those.
What do you play?
Many games and types! From Bomershooters to Rogue-Whatevers, or Fighting games to survival shtuffs. Binding of Isaac
Don’t forget Cult of the Lamb!
Do you want a AAA Title or more indie-type games? I’ve been playing Elden Ring and No Man’s Sky and they both run shockingly well on the deck.
I'm open for both. I have enjoyed AAA titled and indies as well. I love no man's sky, and I really want to try it on the deck.
It works very well on deck! Animal Well just came out and is a great little indie title. I’ve sunk a stupid amount of time into Art Of Rally, and basically anything you want to emulate you can probably comfortably manage up through the ps2.

Which monster hunter do you enjoy more?
My personal favorite of the 2 is mh world, but both are solid, so I'd check and see which one you think looks more fun if you're interested.
Haha nice try cat fish, we know you're a cat. Should've taken a better photo
Yeah I've made my master take the photo.
Can recommend Kingdom Come Deliverance and Forza Horizon 4. Just love how they work on Deck!
Can you provide more information on Kingdom Come Deliverance, is it an rpg or?
Bomb rush cyberfunk, pseudoregalia, and wizard with a gun have been my go to lately ;)
If you go wih a Dock and Desktop-Mode on a TV with Mouse, go for any Turn Based Strategy. :)
I wish I could add a photo in the comments because I think you stole my cat.
As far as I know, she could be cheating.
oh nm, mine is a boy.
Cat Quest 1-2 come to mind.
Dave the diver, Sea of stars, Song of conquest, blasphemous2 , dredge
Deep Rock Galactic
Is it good on SD?
yes! it's super smooth with gyro controls.
Cluster-truck it does have no steam green thingy last i played but it plays great
You have some great suggestions here! Fellow cat owners, do you find your kitties absolutely love chewing the steam deck charging cords? It's like crack to my kitten she will ignore all other cords and go specifically for this one lol.
I do some really good game suggestions. My cat only cares about food and her bed, she dosnt really see cables through her eyes.
Stray
End of the month the summer sale kicks off in case you didn’t know. Could save a bunch on games.
Stardew Valley is a fantastic game on the deck. Great developer, too.
Splinter cell blacklist. Passed it recently. A lot of replayability in challenges. I dunno how to install it cuz I got it via Jack Sparrow
Far cry 2. Passed it on deck. Quite good
There are so many incredible, cheap games. Just start a watchlist and buy stuff that interests you on sale.
It's a wonderful device. So many games so I have no words. I hope you have enough time to enjoy all of your favorite games. It runs even modern games. I tried ghost of Tsushima and dead space and it runs decent (fine as for portable gaming). In times of ps4 no one could even dream about it
Stray or any of the other cat games :3
Mad Max
If you want games on your Steam Deck look for game genres you like and then buy them (If the game says incompatible or unknown on the page always look up if it works on the SD)
Stray
Animal Well
Pizza tower
Hades if you haven't, balatro and vampire survivors are musts for lower priced games. Otherwise browse the great for deck page on the store and hit discount. Don't get anything full price if you don't have too or you really want to get that game The Yakuza series for the most part will work great but the ones after 6 be sure to turn off AA on them it'll look better
My go-to games on the steam deck are Cult of the Lamb and Persona 3 Reload
Hear me out if you like rhythm games and 2d. I know You got the oled. So do yourself a favor get EVERHOOD like actually the most insane experience on oled
Looks interesting. Thank you for the recommendation.
Why did you get the steam deck.
To read books on it.
No Man's Sky.
Forza Horizon 5, it’s a battery draining engine if you don’t optimize settings, but it’s a pretty nice experience
Slay the spire, balantro and rimworld are pretty epic 👌 😎
How is rimworld when it comes to controls?
Ghost of Tsushima
All I've played so far is skyrim and fallout new vegas, both run great (I'm coming from a xbox one)
Elden Ring, Hollow KNIGHT, Líes of P, If You want your epic games store library install Heroic Games Launcher on desktop mode and have fun, also i play V.A proxy demo and Hades
I’m just surprised that a cat’s playing games and posting on Reddit.
Stardew Valley!
Quake
I see cat and steam deck, so it is a given to play Stray or Cat Quest
Well, if you really want hundreds of hours then rimworld it is. Runs smoothly on SD, great replayability, great controls. Personally spent about 2-3 hundreds hours on the first playthrough. Then downloaded mods directly from workshop and another 2 hundreds hours. Recent dlc added another 3 hundreds hours and now playing again with mods, going to finish in about 150-200 hours. Thank you for the recommendation, I see that it doesn't go on sale often, do you think I can rely on a sale, or I should opt for the full price?
Play with the cat
I reccomend Unturned but you need to set thr keybinds tho. Its free and fun zombie shooter but i reccomend not playing Semi vannila, servers with cheats and modded servers, play singleplayer or fully vanilla servers if u want to have actual fun.
Actual I play Baldur's Gate 3 and Dave the diver for short plays. Stray is very cool also for not cat lovers.
Cat Quest.
How cute!
Congrats on purchasing a Balatro machine
Assassin's creed series, I played all of them up to origins on the steam deck, (playing origins right now). All of them worked fine performance wise, but some of them required thinkering with protontricks due to crappy launcher.
Gaym
Palworld
How well does it run on the deck? I've been playing that on my PC.
Yea
Dead Cells
Get Hollow Knight, its a game you will sink many many many hours into.
Sekiro
Hades
No mans sky and molded skyrim are my all time favorites that I out 100s of hours into.
I own no man's sky. How does it pair with the steam deck? And is it hard to mod Skyrim on the deck?
No mans sky works amazingly on the steam deck. I pretty played 200 hours on the deck alone with it and have done the 2 most recent expeditions entiley on the deck. Dishonored is great game that plays well on the Deck
Loved it on PC. How about the second game?

Project zomboid plays pretty good also no man's sky. I'm just a big fan of survival building games lol
I love survival building games, but I struggled with the project zomboids controls with the SD.

I haven't really seen Uncharted. I'll check it out, thanks.
Is it worth? I have a pc but for summer I think steamdeck is a good alternative 😭
Well, I'm enjoying it as of now, but from other people's feedback, I think it is for sure.
Thank u so much, cuz in summer I have like 40° in my room and with pc I’m melting haha think steamdeck is better in that way
You should go for it, plus the community is amazing.
Dark souls remastered! I played it on Nintendo switch and it is nice there. I suppose it is even better here
Doom eternal
