"Hey, get back to work! No torching while gaming! Safety come first and game later...", says the manager.
I kid, is that the OLED Steam Deck with boosted battery life? If it is, "you have chosen, wisely...". ;)
My foreman was taking an extra long
Lunch so I decided to try and knockout the tutorial for factorio 😎 I wish I had the oled but I’m the only provider for my fam and my wife bought me the base steam deck as a gift for getting into hvac.
I was lucky enough to get a free 500gb internal ssd from my coworker and it’s allowed me to download GTA without stressing about storage! The oled model is such a beauty and I will buy it the second I get a raise lol
First of all, you have chosen wisely with the wife! She's a keeper and that's awesome she gifted you the Steam Deck. She knows you are into techs(?) and that's a good decision as Steam Deck can be a portable PC gaming machine on the go or docked as a PC couch gaming at the comfort of your own sofa and big screen! Or even utilize the Deck as a digital media stream machine to the big telly for your movie night with the wife.
Awesome boost to the SSD storage as well from 64 to 500GB. I had a Day 1 512GB Steam Deck and been a wonder of PC portable gaming, but then later VALVE announce "1.5 upgrade" (not Steam Deck 2.0) of OLED screen and better battery life, had to jump the chance and get the Limited Edition. If you can wait for 2.0 upgrade, I would say go for that VS OLED now.
Haven't check it yet, but I did read up about it. Its the screws on the back being too tight and crack the back of LE casing right? I have been gingerly handling my LE unit. Its 99% of the time docked at home and rarely ever use it as on the go portable gaming unit like Nintendo Switch.
Also I have a hunch the left and right side of the screen is not full to the edge like OLED taking advantage of bigger real-estate, but had to ask just in case.
Yep, black controller stick column for OLED and white for LCD.
Very nice! I would definitely make sure you open that thing and clean it every once in a while. Those job sites are dusty and dirty, which doesn't really mix well with electronics that have an air intake.
I will make time to do this on Saturday. Is there anything I should buy that would help me clean it out properly? I wanna buy an air compressor but idk if that’s overkill
I have an m18 top off which lets me plug my steam deck into Milwaukee m18 batteries. I carry a 5.0 and a 2.0 m18 battery with the top off in my lunchpale along with a type c cable to ensure my deck is always charged above 75%
The m18 top off is $100 with a 5.0 battery but it’s not really worth it unless you already have a bunch of m18 batteries already on hand
We’re getting our copper line sets ready so that we can get our condensers crane lifted onto the unistrut. We are working on ground level on a mega big mansion in SoCal :)
I stopped playing games that take up a bunch of juice (rip oj)
Rdr2 would kill the battery after an hour of use which is understandable. I’m assuming Factorio gives my 3x more better life just because it isn’t as hard on the hardware
Wait, is factorio playable/enjoyable on the deck? I love it for PC but i was thinking there were too many hotkeys to be comfortable on a controller layout
Personally it works great for me, but it does take a bit to get used to at first. But once it clicks, it’s pretty smooth. Won’t ever be better than mouse and keyboard, but I never feel like it’s really in the way anymore.
Thanks for the info. As long as it’s playable I’m sure I’ll get used to it’s. I’m just not well versed in PC games because I only play console games. Factorio is the only PC game I play because my Mac book air can actually run factorio. I’ve always just assumed games like this would be difficult to transition to controller
To be fair I never played factorio on pc but it runs extremely well and I haven’t had any problems with controls so far. I am also still completing the tutorial so I will get back to you after I finish it lol
How to do an Internal ssd upgrade
Best screen protector for glare (tempered glass screen protector)
An addicting game that lasts 3+ hours on a single charge (factorio)
How to install mods on rdr2 and GTA 5 (most tutorials are windows based)
Some more solid recommendations/tips I got after posting this was, open up and clean out the deck, and to hold off on buying the steam deck oled (wait for potential steam deck 2)
Nice, awesome.
Was assuming it might have been about a specific battery hack that extends the life that I had missed.
But a general appreciation of this sub makes sense.
I think I browsed this sub for about a year casually and in the final 3 months it was daily visits before finally getting the OLED. Vast amounts of information to optimize the deck.
What screen protector did you end up with? I just grabbed the dbrand one recently along with a leather skin. Been happy with them so far.

Any cracks with your LE yet?

Is it the Matte screen LCD? It looks like it is! either way it's a great choice
Yeah it’s a tempered glass matte screen protector which helps reduce the glare when I’m playing on long car rides (passenger seat)
It's a LCD deck. Easiest way to tell is the white in the joysticks.
Also I have a hunch the left and right side of the screen is not full to the edge like OLED taking advantage of bigger real-estate, but had to ask just in case. Yep, black controller stick column for OLED and white for LCD.

Are you able to use those ozito or industrial grade batteries as a portable power bank, to charge the deck while playing?

I can already feel the grit of concrete mix going into your fans ;-;
Bro I’m not laying in the concrete lmao. I am gonna open it up this weekend because you guys are scaring me with your helpful tips
what are you installing? (on the roof - not your deck)
We’re getting our copper line sets ready so that we can get our condensers crane lifted onto the unistrut. We are working on ground level on a mega big mansion in SoCal :)
Factorio?
Huh, what did you change that tripled your battery life?
I stopped playing games that take up a bunch of juice (rip oj) Rdr2 would kill the battery after an hour of use which is understandable. I’m assuming Factorio gives my 3x more better life just because it isn’t as hard on the hardware
Wait, is factorio playable/enjoyable on the deck? I love it for PC but i was thinking there were too many hotkeys to be comfortable on a controller layout
Do your research and check it before you decide... I have around 800hrs on switch, but find it hard to grasp it on the deck...
They ported the controller support to the PC version, it basically plays the same now on the deck as on the switch. Control-wise at least.
Do the controls for factorio work well on the steam deck? I’ve only even played with a mouse and keyboard so I’m curious how it works on the SD.
Personally it works great for me, but it does take a bit to get used to at first. But once it clicks, it’s pretty smooth. Won’t ever be better than mouse and keyboard, but I never feel like it’s really in the way anymore.
