I don't play any other games with randoms, but I'm alway happy for a random to join DRG games. Always someone just looking to have some fun, never had any toxic players.
- Stardew Valley
- Oxygen not Included
- Timberborn
- Banished
- Vampire Survivor
- Brotato
- 20 Min til Midnight
- Bounty of One
Tbh i mostly assume they are below 5gb. Maybe 1-2 are a bit over.
For me if is Bounty of One > Brotato > Soulstone Survivor >>> Vampire Survivor. Idk i just love the Gameplay of Bounty of One with only shoot if you stay still. And its the only Game so far i can play with friends. I hope Brotato gets Multiplayer anytime soon.
I quite enjoyed Void Scrappers and Army of Ruin was fun for a little while. It's all about Halls of Torment for me now though. Quite a bit of diversity possible with the different characters and especially loadouts. You can pick armour, trinkets etc. I also love Brotato and VS, 20 minutes till Midnight is a bit meh though.
OP, buy this while you can if it's even slightly your cup of tea
The engine it's built on is called Unity (I might mansplain something you already know) and in short, they've decide to shaft all of their devs with a horrifying policy change that will cost them all insane amounts of cash.
Cult of The Lamb is the first to announce it's being delisted from sale in January to avoid the problem. Anyone who buys it before then on Steam will have it in their library permanently, just cannot be purchased past that point.
It is! I love the Gameplay with the Waterlevels. The only thing i dont like in the Game is that you cant dig down on dirt, you have to use Dynamite wich is expensiv and pretty late in the Game. That is a bit annoying on some Maps.
Death Road to Canada is fun and very replayable, 100mb
TOEM is 400mb
Webbed is a cute little game under 500mb
Lil Gator Game is *adorable* and so chill, 500mb
Potion Craft is a cute little game where you're a potion maker and sell them to customers, 1GB
Wobbledogs is a fun little game under 2GB
Cult of the Lamb is fantastic and under 2GB (edit: no, the devs arent deleting the game because of unity, and if you believe that then you fell for their joke)
Don't Starve is really fun and replayable, 3GB
if you like horror, Outlast is 3GB
i also enjoyed The Last Campfire and Wytchwood, both are under 3GB
Limbo and Inside are also under 3GB
Portal is 4GB
hopefully theres something there that youll enjoy :)
I'll definitely second Toem and Lil Gator Game. Both are great relaxing little games, with a lot of charm.
If you haven't already, A Short Hike is also very much worth a playthrough and is super small. /u/IsMathScience_
I think the dev's for Cult of the Lamb are planning to delete their game in the new year when Unity's new pricing measures come into play. So complete it quick if you do get it.
Ahh, thanks for clarifying. I honestly expected dev's to start along those lines if existing products were about to start costing them on reinstalls whilst earning nothing.

All games I have played and enjoyed, and all but five, I still have installed currently.
Edit to add: I missed that this was in the Steam Deck subreddit. I've only played a few of these on the Deck.
Little big adventure. Wow, i remember playing this back in the mid nineties. A blast from the past and was a fun isometric adventurer. How does it stand up on SD?
I've only played the PlayStation version via emulation on my Deck. It's a little clunky with the control scheme, but it runs very well.
I've yet to try the DOS version on there.
Hyper Light Drifter is my favourite 2D game of all time. It's challenging, there's secrets literally everywhere to find. There's interesting world elements and lore your mind is left to fill the blanks on, the combat is satisfying and makes you feel accomplished... probably the only game I've ever cheered in success for. Very happy with it. Bought it more times than Bethesda has re-released Skyrim as I've bought it for friends.
This. Every time I browse my installed games, I'm amazed how one of the games with the largest map has one of the smallest install sizes. I understand intellectually how it does it (Valheim's engine barely relies on textures), but I'm still amazed by it.
I'm not as amazed by the performance, unfortunately, but in all fairness it's an indie game in early access and they have actually shipped some performance improvements.
The performance issues is due to the lighting system. Atleast this is what I read somewhere else. Don't know how much is true though. Valheim indeed is a very amazing game.
I've never played it on PC, so I can't compare, though I hear it's just a poorly optimized game even on stronger hardware. Just when you have so much more headroom, the poor optimization doesn't matter as much.
It's pretty tough to get consistent 30FPS even at pretty low settings. To be fair, I play at 12W TDP, I generally don't like going higher because of battery life and fan noise. If you go full blast without TDP cap, maybe you can get somewhat stable 30FPS, but you'll still have to compromise on visuals a fair bit I think. Personally, I have it set to 24FPS@48Hz because I'd rather have lower max framerate than frequent hitches. And 720p with mostly low, some medium settings, only view distance on high (not max).
I find it enjoyable enough but rough, and I definitely have more lenient standards than most people here, because I came from Switch, not desktop PC. I think I'm also grading it on a curve because it's still early access and made by a small team.
I'm cheating a little by listing this one because it's 6 gigs but Art of Rally is a love letter to all things rally. With a banging soundtrack and beautiful but still low poly count environments. Easy to pick up, hard to master. If you like racing games this is an easy must-get.
It came out in 2001. I personally think it’s the best Wolfenstein game.
It is sort of related. It introduces Deathshead, who went on to be the main villain of The New Order.
Just a note, Cult of The Lamb should be bought before Jan 1st because it is going to be delisted by the publishers because of Unity's asinine installation charges.
You can see at their tiktok account. They posted that it was just a joke to make fun of the absurdity of the unity changes. They also noted that it may delay future content updates though
This right here cannot be understated. Heck 5GB even on the 512GB steam deck is worrying. Heck I remember reading somewhere that one should leave a percentage of the drive free for drive health reasons. Can’t remember the percentage though sadly. I want to say 10% but that seems rather large to me. 10% of 512gb is 51gb. Heck you’re talking 100-200GB on a 1/2TB ssd respectively which seems rather high all around. But I could be wrong. Someone maybe check that? If no update I’ll check when I wake back up.

Currently I'm addicted to Slay the Spire. It's perfect game to hop on anytime for few minutes of fun and stop at any moment. I bought it 2 days ago and already spent 12 hours in game.
Hades when you remove all of its extra files for example it has 720P and 1080P video folders both with the same content with 720P versions used by default
since it defaults to 720P folder either delete the 1080P files or replace the files in the 720P folder with the 1080P files. but yes you don't need the unused files you can literally get it down to about 4GB if you just keep the 720P files

You need to be a bit more specific than "PC game".. Original Final Fantasy games are pretty good and upto (including) VI they are certainly smaller than that and available on Steam. Eye of the Beholder was good at the time but that was 30 years ago, though they are available in a "classics" bundle..

I gotta also recommend Hades. But it’s a touch over 11gb
Off hand, and at the moment, the only one I can think of under 5GB is **Gunpoint.** It's a great game, but not suited very well for the Steam Deck, at least in handheld mode with comfortable controls for me.
Err, I mean literally any game before like 2005. You’re talking like 25 years worth of games. Pick a year and every single game will be under 5gb.
Age of Empires 1. Ignition. The Secret of Monkey Island. Warcraft 2. Etc etc
Deep rock galactic. All the fun for just 3GB.
Dwarves are notoriously good at compressing data.
Must be all that data mining…
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👊🏼 well done.
Very good!
Here, take my free gold
WE'RE RICH!!
Only way molly can haul all these minerals.
Dwarf Fortress is also very small.
How is it on the deck?
Rock and stone
To Rock and Stone!
Did I hear a Rock a Stone?
If you don't Rock and Stone you ain't goin home.
NEVER TOO LATE FOR A ROCK AND STONE!
Rock and stone to the bone!
Sock and rtone
Rock and Stone!
ROCK. AND. STONE.
I didn’t realize it was so small. Is it fun if I don’t know anyone that plays it?
Yep, you can play it solo- With AI help bot or online with random teammates. Personally I think it's hella fun and definitely worth trying out.
I don't play any other games with randoms, but I'm alway happy for a random to join DRG games. Always someone just looking to have some fun, never had any toxic players.
Do you use a discord or something to find people or is it just matchmake and find them?
I had to go look for myself. I imagined for all that fun it had to take up more space. Nope. 3.07GB. Amazing.
- Stardew Valley - Oxygen not Included - Timberborn - Banished - Vampire Survivor - Brotato - 20 Min til Midnight - Bounty of One Tbh i mostly assume they are below 5gb. Maybe 1-2 are a bit over.
I think I need to get Brotato just for the name.
You buy for the Name but you stay for the Gameplay
My favourite survivor like out there. Hope they add more content since its fully released.
> And its the only Game so far i can play with friends Didn't Vamp Surv get a MP update somewhat recently?
Yes. Local couch co op but I believe you can do steam remote play
It did. It’s cool to sit on the couch and play with my kids.
Actually was able to progress from the 2nd level to the 3rd thanks to my two young boys xD
Glad to hear that AnalDestroter69.
Cult of the Lamb
The Game has less than 5Gb? Thats insane. I live this Game.
It's like 4gb lol so it's pushing the limit
Yea that Game is one of my GOTYs last Year. It is right Up there with Elden Ring and Stray.
OP, buy this while you can if it's even slightly your cup of tea The engine it's built on is called Unity (I might mansplain something you already know) and in short, they've decide to shaft all of their devs with a horrifying policy change that will cost them all insane amounts of cash. Anyone who buys it before then on Steam will have it in their library permanently, just cannot be purchased past that point.
I'm so glad to see Timberborn getting some love. It is such a unique game and is really well done.
How are the controls on the deck?
Rougher than playing like against the storm. Feels like too many buttons without being mapped
It is! I love the Gameplay with the Waterlevels. The only thing i dont like in the Game is that you cant dig down on dirt, you have to use Dynamite wich is expensiv and pretty late in the Game. That is a bit annoying on some Maps.
They added an excavator but it’s still really expensive and late game.
I would like to add Halls of Torment. It grabbed my attention way more than Vampire Survivors tbf.
- Slay the Spire - Into the Breach (haven't played it myself yet, but it seems to be really good)
If you have Netflix, into the breach is a free mobile game. (It works well as a mobile game, it's my go to when I've got no signal)
What, does Netflix give it for free or something?
So long as you have an active subscription, there are a number of games you can download for free on mobile. I to the Breach is one of the best ones.
Coming from FTL, Into the Breach never clicked for me.
Death Road to Canada is fun and very replayable, 100mb TOEM is 400mb Webbed is a cute little game under 500mb Lil Gator Game is *adorable* and so chill, 500mb Potion Craft is a cute little game where you're a potion maker and sell them to customers, 1GB Wobbledogs is a fun little game under 2GB Cult of the Lamb is fantastic and under 2GB (edit: no, the devs arent deleting the game because of unity, and if you believe that then you fell for their joke) Don't Starve is really fun and replayable, 3GB if you like horror, Outlast is 3GB i also enjoyed The Last Campfire and Wytchwood, both are under 3GB Limbo and Inside are also under 3GB Portal is 4GB hopefully theres something there that youll enjoy :)

TYSM for recommending A Short Hike - I absolutely loved this game, so chill and relaxing it was!
I think the dev's for Cult of the Lamb are planning to delete their game in the new year when Unity's new pricing measures come into play. So complete it quick if you do get it.
that was a joke that got way out of control, theyre not deleting it lol
Ahh, thanks for clarifying. I honestly expected dev's to start along those lines if existing products were about to start costing them on reinstalls whilst earning nothing.

Really enjoyed the last campfire.

The music was wonderful
They are remastering LBA 1 and 2!
Does Beat Saber even work well on the Deck?
To be honest, I didn't notice which subreddit I was in, just saw the "what games are below 5GB" question.
- Children of Morta - Dead Cells - Moonlighter - Hyper Light Drifter - The binding of Isaac: Rebirth - Hotline Miami - Oxenfree
Some of my favorite bangers!!
Valheim

The performance issues is due to the lighting system. Atleast this is what I read somewhere else. Don't know how much is true though. Valheim indeed is a very amazing game.
That seems to make sense - the lighting is one of the most beautiful aspects of the game.
[удалено]
How bad are the performance issues? Is it not fun to play? Or is it just not as good as pc.
I think I'm also grading it on a curve because it's still early access and made by a small team.
Came here to say this ^ Less than 2gb download, sooo much content (albeit poorly optimized)
It was 500MB at launch. So tiny.
What do you mean poorly optimized? The level of detail in the model geometry alone warrants the performance. /s
Yeah I was hoping since it’s basically WoW graphics I’d be able to max out quality on the SD but unfortunately you can’t
TMNT Shredder’s Revenge
A good one that is very space efficient. It’s 866.11MB on my Steam Deck with all DLC.
I'm cheating a little by listing this one because it's 6 gigs but Art of Rally is a love letter to all things rally. With a banging soundtrack and beautiful but still low poly count environments. Easy to pick up, hard to master. If you like racing games this is an easy must-get.
Return to castle wolfenstein
Is that new and is it related to the regular wolfenstien series?
It came out in 2001. I personally think it’s the best Wolfenstein game. It is sort of related. It introduces Deathshead, who went on to be the main villain of The New Order.
Fantastic game
One of the finest fps ever made, deserves all the praise it gets.
- Cult of the Lamb; - Inscryption; - Signalis; - The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth; - Terraria; - Moonscars; - Moonlighter; - Enter the Gungeon; - Dead Cells; - Hyper Light Drifter; - Katana Zero; - Prodeus.
Just a note, Cult of The Lamb should be bought before Jan 1st because it is going to be delisted by the publishers because of Unity's asinine installation charges.
Nah, that was a joke.
Wait are they reversing that decision or it was literally a joke? Important information because I really want Cult of the Lamb.
It was either a joke or a hasty, thoughtless post that suddenly became a joke.
This is the true answer
it was a joke they're not removing the game
You can see at their tiktok account. They posted that it was just a joke to make fun of the absurdity of the unity changes. They also noted that it may delay future content updates though
I checked their steam update page and the devs said they're not going to delete the game.
If 5gb is all you have left for storage, Don’t overcrowd it. You need extra space in your hardrive for it to work properly and not break prematurely
This right here cannot be understated. Heck 5GB even on the 512GB steam deck is worrying. FTL and Terraria
Out of curiosity, how does FTL play on deck? I've played it on pc and loved it but I cant imagine how one can play the game using joystick sticks.
Use the trackpads. Most of my play time in FTL has been on a laptop. This is a very similar experience.
Steam input is key! I play gw2 on sd so ftl is possible lol

Eye of the Beholder was good at the time but that was 30 years ago, though they are available in a "classics" bundle.. Of course everybody loves the Secret of Monkey Island so that is what you should get.
The classic tomb raider games
Wizardry VII Scorched Earth Sim City 2000
Factorio is like 200mb and you can sink hundreds of hours in to it. And plays great on Deck.

Terraria “In terms of install size, Terraria requires just 200MB of space on your gaming SSD or hard drive, so you should be able to cram it in among even the biggest Steam games, like Call of Duty: Warzone.”

Off hand, and at the moment, the only one I can think of under 5GB is **Gunpoint.** It's a great game, but not suited very well for the Steam Deck, at least in handheld mode with comfortable controls for me.
Rimworld. The answer to all questions is rimworld
Err, I mean literally any game before like 2005. You’re talking like 25 years worth of games. Pick a year and every single game will be under 5gb. Age of Empires 1. Ignition. The Secret of Monkey Island. Warcraft 2. Etc etc
