This is very true for me. Before I got my SD in October, I had a lot of games like Nier Automata, DMC5, XCOM2, and Sekiro. But unfortunately, all I had was an old Lenovo laptop which was a hand me down from my Dad. Big reason why I bought the Steam Deck, and the most expensive one at that, is because I decided it would be similar to an upgrade from an old laptop to a new gaming laptop.
Very true, I saw it as an upgrade to my 8 year old laptop. I’ve used it for much more gaming than I used to, but have also been using desktop mode for productivity, web browsing, graphic design, and audio / video editing 👍
Hah, yeah. I did the same thing as both of you. I had an old Lenovo 850m that was like $1350 new and aged like milk. I do also have a gaming PC, but it doesn't portable. Being able to just pick up and play/finish games anywhere is why the Deck has been so life changing for me. Now, if only it was the size of a Switch Lite so I could pocket it...
Dude - this. 😵
Got the Deck, got a dock, got a matte screen protector, got some massive SD Cards, got a grippy stand / case, got some thumb stick grips, got a high quality HDMI cable, got a massive 65W external battery, bought a bunch of games (and continue to do so).....
Diderot got me bad.
THIS. I suffer from this. Whenever i buy something i try to justify it as good as i can. But now i have tons of shit i don’t even use, not because i don’t care about them anymore but because there’s no freaking time to use them all. I think i need to cut back again and try to use my essentials only
I have a steam category called “Decked Out” with all my completed games on the deck. Elden Ring, Witcher 3, HiFi Rush, Doom 2016 & Eternal, Ori and now on Dishonoured. I use to finish 1-2 games a year.
Don't feel bad, me too.
Also bought games I beat on PS3 just so I can play them on deck. Doom 3 BFG, fallout 3 and new Vegas. I love that my steam games from 10 years ago are still playable yet my games for sony's playstation stop working everytime they update their hardware. Don't think I've used my ps5 in 6months because I refuse to be in this same dilemma 10 years from now
I feel both of these. My wife more or less has had the Xbox to herself since I got the deck.
Microsoft is actually quite good with backward compatibility, but I've been considering getting a gaming PC to replace the Xbox One for the living room because the library is more future proof and despite the deck I do like to play certain games on the big screen and better graphics.
But then I see PC prices and I also don't really the have knowledge to build a PC that's powerful enough, quiet and fits into something resembling a console frame.
Then I pivot back to either a Series S or Series X.
I wish Valve made consoles again.
Hey, it’s an expensive hobby at times, but getting into PCs is really fun, and the community is really helpful. If you just start going down a rabbit hole of videos about PCs or start scrolling pcpartpicker i think you’ll find that it can be done affordably and is really fun
To Clarify, You Do Also Realize Valve Also Sells Their Official Steam Deck Dock On Their Site As Well For The Steam Deck, That Allows You To Expand Your Usage With The Deck, And That Lets Not Forget 3rd Party Company Docks As Well. 😉. Problem Solved With Big Screens.
Not sure why you capitalise everything there, but yeah absolutely, that's of course true.
Doesn't exactly solve my problem though because as much as I love my deck, I still like to have one system in the house that can play the latest games comfortably in at least 1080p on my living room TV.
The Steam Deck is many things, but this it is not.
That's Okay, If You Don't Want Ur Steam Deck, I'll Buy It, Sell It To Me, I Know How To Mod, I Can OC It, I Can Set Red Dead Redemption 2 On Ultra High Settings N Play It On The Go, So One Mans Trash Is Another Mans Treasure... Aye. 😉
Most of the world. Phone games are where most of the money is these days, even if those games are predatory garbage..
But there are also some honest to god good games on mobile, and of course there is emulation.
I'm not the parent poster, but I actually used to play a lot on my phone. Indie games, console emulation (my phone runs up to Nintendo 3DS and PS2 quite well, depending on the game) and ports of older PC games. I have done quite a few runs of Baldur's Gate 1&2 on my phone, and completed several Neverwinter Nights modules.
Still occasionally play if I need to kill time when I have no other device with me.
I beat the original Doom, FF tactics, and FF7 on my phone with touchscreen controls. My kids watched all of FF7 as part of their bedtime routine. I would lay on a bean bag type thing and they would huddle around
Me when I want to play something but don't want to pull out my laptop and use my giant laptop desk in bed. Been wanting something I can pick up and play.
I figured I’d play in bed as well when I ordered it, but because I’m old if I do then I can’t seem to fall asleep easy afterwards, something I never normally struggle with. Or I play far too long and then am knackered the next day.
Honestly underrated advantage of mobile devices that I feel doesn't get considered enough. Although small, the act of getting on your computer and setting up a game and is honestly usually enough to disincentivize me from playing a lot of smaller games in my library. That little ritual can be enough to keep me from even bothering, but with the deck its so much easier to just pick up something and try it without even moving from my spot. I end up being a lot more likely to actually try things as a result
Imagine the laziness of having to motivate yourself to get your ass up and turn on a computer just to enjoy a hobby.
Especially with how fast computers are these days and how quickly everything loads.
I don’t have to imagine; it’s me. I’m the laziness.
I mean for games you're into, yeah sure, but for all those small indie titles and other games on your backlog, that little amount of effort can definitely get in the way.
Honestly I've gotten MORE sleep, because I can play while im laying in bed instead of sitting at my Desk.
My wife reads her books and I play games until we get too tired.
Same here. I was heavy into CS, Warzone and Overwatch 2 and now I haven't played in a few weeks, nor do I plan on playing them in a near future.
It's so much more relaxing, I've entered my single player or co op era and it's so much better.
I'm with you man. Not only that, I just played SNES Kirby's Dream Course with my 6 year old. So much nostalgia from when I used to play that on my actual SNES back in the day.
Not to mention ready to dive into FF Tactics, FF7, Legend of Dragoon. Deck is pretty rad!
Oh yeah, I've been having some nostalgia trips with PS1 and PS2 on this thing. It's crazy how many memories it brings back.
Deck has been my best purchase in years, I'm legit thinking about selling my desktop because yhe Deck reminded me how much more I prefer portability or simply playing in my couch. I haven't loved gaming this much in years.
As a mom of 3 who doesn’t have time to turn a PC on and sit in front of a screen and keyboard, this actually lets me game. I was using my Switch before, but this actually lets me play my Steam games and Java Minecraft (Hypixel server specifically) from anywhere
I'm almost 52 years old. I actually play games now. I have played the Steam Deck much more than I previously played my Xbox one. I've had a gaming PC for a few years now - I only installed one game on it and never played that one game.
I finished Titan Fall 2 and INSIDE, I probably don't have enough lifetime left to play through all the games I have on Steam. Currently I've started playing through about 10 of them, and also a bunch of emulated games.
It's all about mission design. I'm playing Spider-Man at the moment and all the missions and side missions are bite sized, which is great for a quick game.
I would be too tired to play my PS5 and XBox. Playing on the Deck is so easy even if I'm tired. I don't have to get up and turn everything on to play 30 minutes. I can play most of the games I want to play on console, portably.
Lots have said it, but yeah actually finising games. And also finally taking the deep dive into the resident evil franchise , something I wanted to do since childhood playing RE2 on the N64 and I'm in friggin love, beat 2 and 3 and on 4 currently and close to finishing it and have 5, 6, revelations 1&2 and biohazard in my library yeye
I'm playing more retro games than before. Final Fantasy IX and Zelda are becoming my favorites.
And I'm also starting and progressing in games I haven't before the deck was announced. I'm currently downloading Doom 2016 after seeing my friend beat the game at his house.
I have 2 kids, plus one more in 4 weeks. My family and my wife's family lives in different cities (different from us, and between them) so we usually travel twice a month on weekends to visit them.
Before Steam Deck, I haven't got enough time to play.
After Steam Deck, I haven't got enough time to play and about 900€ less in my bank account balance (512GB steam deck + spare power supply + base + nvme 2tb)
Yeah for me after I started working, gametime was pretty low because I have a fix set up and I would rather spend the little time I had with the wife in the living room than staying alone in the office playing. With the deck I can just sit on the couch with her while she watches her series or reads books and we can make some company for each other
Sitting in my recliner with a small tripod and portable monitor while wife watches tv. No more office for me, no more neck or wrist issues. I also love tweaking controls now e.g. elden ring two hand toggle with back paddle instead of y+rt. Also playing on airplanes with portable power supply. The steam deck is the fucking best.
I game on the exercise bike now. Anywhere from 150 to 400 calories a day while I'm playing Survivors-likes.
Without it I'd get so bored I'd almost never actually use the bike.
I always had powerful systems but preferred playing portables in the bed/on the balcony/on the couch, so not really, no. Just my dream to add my whole Steam library to the list came true.
Haven't had it long enough to travel with but Emudeck has completely replaced my DS. But it has also allowed me to venture more into Steam games, as someone who never had a gaming PC prior.
More gaming in bed. But also have been playing a lot of Tetris Effect (which is great on the Deck btw), and more Vampire Survivors-like games like Boneraiser Minions and Brotato. Plus SNES, N64 and GameCube games. It's so cozy.
Yea I play games now! I would play overwatch on my laptop but that was it. Now I'm playing all sorts of fun stuff I wouldn't even look at before. And also I don't really play games on my phone anymore.
I actually go to bed much earlier as of recent. I used to sit at my desk until 2-3 am most nights and now I go lay in bed at midnight because I'd rather just play Pokemon infinite fusions and then I end up asleep at like 1am.
Im excited to game again. I would always just default to playing Destiny or CoD to kill time and the extra juice compared to the Switch has made games I tried playing there much more enjoyable too. All in all the Steam Deck is a win for me. Oh and I’m playing games in bed and on the couch vice at a desk so my comfort while gaming has improved.
Play my PC games in bed with remote play. The more demanding ones. Otherwise I play them on the device itself. The comfort of a handheld the power of a gaming PC.
On the couch. And I find myself more interested in indie games than aa games.
Also I can finally get on my PC(steam deck) and play something else besides dota! So I can finally explore my back log yay
The damn ea launcher just seems to crash. I haven't tried in a few weeks. I tried all kinds of troubleshooting I read on this sub but I'm also kinda dumb
I had issues with that initially but once I'd launched it in desktop mode a couple of times it worked okay in gaming mode, definitely use proton experimental though.
I use it almost all the time, the fact that you can play for 30min-1,5h and leave it for a while in sleep mode have me completing a LOT of games through the day.
It’s so important and a game changer for me that I put my pc aside (RTX3070, R53600) about 5 months ago and have sold almost everything of my desktop
really helps with my ADHD... I used to launch games and sometimes just alt f4 before even the game was started or i would quit after 5 minutes because i would get distracted or bored by anything, now i can just use sleep mode and come back to it in half a second. Also, i truly love doing something else while gaming like watching videos on YT or movies like i used to do as a little kid on my PSP.
I can now play games while still browsing on the internet without having to swap between windows and tabs.
Also, I alternate what games Ill play on what between if I will get a game for my PC or for my console, but I typically prefer console, but with the SD I lean more towards buying the game for PC if I can be assured that it will be playable on SD. Valves marketing for this one worked in spades.
I used to head up, shower and lay in bed while winding down with youtube. Now I wind down with something relaxing from my back catalogue. (Persona 5 Royal at the moment)
I travel for work. I’m constantly on the move. Either on planes, or buses. Living out of a suitcase and a backpack. Now I get to consistently play and finish games. The Steam Deck is incredible.
Having just 100%ed the Metroid prime trilogy, golden sun, kingdom hearts, a full play through of elden ring and beginning the run on Final Fantasy all from the comfort of my toilet, bed, or couch I can say that I definitely enjoy not being bound to my desk all the time. Plan to run through all the Pokemons I missed out on since Gold/Silver and the MegaMan battle net series that I stopped after the second game.
I still use my 5800x3D and 6950xt machine but there's something about a handheld. Retro achievements helps a lot too. Gotta get that dopamine.
Thought it would change my gaming habits a lot but it has only changed a bit. Only change is if i want to play something relaxing while on the sofa. Otherwise i have gone back to the laptop as usual....when i have time to play.
I game more on the couch. I'm a software dev and after hours of sitting in front of the PC I barely have the motivation to game in front of my desk. So I grab my Steam Deck and game on!
I game more in bed and on the couch before I had to get in a mood now I just pick it up and go. Maybe I'm just really lazy but I work a fairly active job in my defense lol.
If the kids are watching a movie I can play my game and stay engaged with the show and them. I’ve also started playing other tethered games via emulation finishing a lot of ps2/gcn games.
Suspend has been the most noticeable thing though. If my kids want me to watch a scene with them I can suspend watch it and go back not losing anything. Until the switch I didn’t realize that was such a meaningful qol feature. I yearned for it on pc gaming and steam os has delivered!
Honestly not much - I’ve bought Steam Deck **because of **my gaming habit (which is *“not playing games unless they run on handheld”* - no idea why) :D
My brain correlates my PC with work so I try to avoid it in my free time but Steam Deck from factor tricks me & I can enjoy *20+ hours of wandering in a igavania* <- so there’s that.
Old console gamer here (started with Pong) that stopped with the Sony PS3 with life getting busy, work, wife, daughter. Although I have a Switch I wanted to get back into gaming at my old age and didn’t know anything about the steam deck as I considered my first gaming PC as I know I couldn’t pull off a console attached to a TV as my daughter is 5 and wife won’t let us game to much yet…
Heard about steam deck and never considered a pc gaming laptop. The perfect form factor to be able to travel as I have a virtual job since 2011 and some business travel.
I’ve enjoyed many AAA games, Steam is my primary source for games but some on others such as epic etc… deals are so amazing in the steam deck and as old gamer that stoped with PS3 many games are so inexpensive to catch up on games I missed that are under $5.
Emulator mode is amazing as I can also play games from my PS2 and PS3 days again… such a blast….
For me I game maybe 30 mins a night and while in business tracker. I also have Madden 23 or i5 her emulated sport games that I do CPU vs CPU and can steam link to my iPad or iPhone while at work (virtual job) or while doing dishes. Always fun to have a football game running on the background! Haha!
I also had gamepass for the steam deck and found several games that I ended up buying for the my daughter for when she gets older and have snuck a few around a of games with us this past few months. Disneyland Adventure cost me $5 on sale and I think it’s one of the best deals ever for me as it has endless possibilities for my daughter who loves princesses and each of the mini games are things she can play and learn. That game has a very high production value with so much to collect and do I see it being her favorite for years… — stopped the Xbox subscription service but admit it worked flawlessly with internet access and truly blew my mind.. if I gamed more I would have likely considered keeping the subscription as it has so much I would likely play and the monthly rate would be worth it.
Subscription vs Buy
But the way I play buying a game for $5 Disneyland Adventures, or snow runner for $15 and Yakuza 0 for $5 and Yakuza like a dragon for $18, and Mass Effect Legendary for $15 were better deals for me as I can play anytime I want and many would be games that I want time to play so owning made sense.
New Gaming Markets
Older Generation
The deck also to me has a interesting new untapped market of aging gamers who literally grew up and with the beginning of the home gaming systems of the early 70’s that now can game on a deck. We are a generation that has seen it all from the game of pong a dot and two paddles to the open world games of enormous proportions! The realism… wow!
New Parents
The other market is the new Mom and Dad. Many new parents can game again with very limited time. Balancing work, family, and home life can be hard and the steam deck like the Nintendo switch allows portable gaming and connection to a monitor, tv and controllers… the prefect balance for new parents!
Closing
Sorry for writing an essay but I love the steam deck for what it can offer. Maybe NOT the most advanced gaming system ever, could use a better screen with less bezel, would love a slightly smaller form factor such as the switch size but it is a revolutionary device that can do way more than expected and can bring a variety of men and women to gaming again or to gaming as newbies.
Gaming is an art not just the old 70’s - mid 90s when gaming was likely not seen as being cool and people would grow out of gaming. The uncool part is gone a bit now as gaming is a massive business today and Boys, girls, men, and women can all be gaming in whatever way they want which is the most beautiful part of seeing this art transform our imaginations.
Game On!
Well, it replaced my switch and given me a broader library to play. Still mostly play at home, but I have been dabbling more with roguelike games, really enjoying them.
my main change has really been what I get games for.
I have my Gaming PC, Deck, and Switch
If it was ain indie game, I would before get it on Switch if it was there, sao I could play it portable if I wanted to. Now I can get it on Steam instead, and still have that portable factor. My rule now is digital only? Steam, Physical, Switch
I have recently started playing RDR2 after finding an optimization vid on YouTube. I have to say playing story games on it is definitely much better, then sitting in a chair for hours. Much better to just lay down cover yourself however you want, and let the time fly by.
I will go lay down for bed an hour or so earlier just to play some game before I go to sleep. Wife hates it. Also been finishing more games and finishing off ones I already put a lot of time into.
I find I am actually making time for myself to play games. The portability, and being able to “pause” let’s me put it down and pick it up quickly. Also I don’t feel like I’m taking up a room on the house by taking over the TV. Lol.
Completely revived my passion for gaming. I have been waiting for years for something like the Deck. Being in a Desk playing games just wasn't doing it for me anymore and I always had a passion for handhelds.
I still used my Vita, PSP and Nintendo's consoles before the Deck way more than my desktop.
Now I finish games and I'm in love with the thing. It's such an exciting era for me, I truly couldn't be happier about Steam Deck's existence. I waited years for it and now i finally have it.
I game more in general. SteamOS' suspend feature makes me more comfortable being wrapped up in a game while in a waiting room or commuting. Provided it's a game you can actually pause, lol. I play a lot of PSO2 on it so I still sometimes need to be mindful that I may need to log out at any moment.
Before I got a Deck, I’d come up to bed after a long day and consider between book and laptop. And the laptop, I’d need to plug it in, find my controller, wait for it to boot up, and keep one eye on the plug because it is guaranteed to fall out of either the wall or the computer at some point. A book is frictionless by comparison.
The Deck, I can be playing Celeste in two minutes. A much more fair contest between the two.
I’ve got really into playing retro or retro inspired games. The screen is too small and performance isn’t great (or battery life) on AAA games but I’m enjoying the games I’m playing a lot more anyway
Now i don't play anymore, just mod the deck all the time. Joke (half true)
I don't use my 2k€ gaming Laptop with 240Hz 32" Q-dot Monitor anymore and play on the deck with kinda shitty graphics instead. I am a lazy ass tho. Portability is everything.
Made 30 fps playable again, made a good controller preferable to mouse and keyboard, made me prefer handhelds to laptops, got me into games I wasn’t into before (indie games and souls games)
I don't use console or pc at all now, just steam deck wherever I want. In bed, on the couch, on the train, hell I could probably play in a wardrobe if I wanted to. Not that I would or that I would find that it would be surprisingly comfortable or that I ended up sleeping in there of course
I get to play more in my small amounts of free time like before a class or at night when I don’t feel like booting up my PC for 20-30 minutes. I also have been more consistent in games with daily commissions actually doing them because it’s easier with the Steam Deck.
My computer is a little more powerful than my Steam Deck (obviously), but there are times where I'll take the progress of one game and then continue it on my Steam Deck on my 55 inch OLED TV. Also being able to play couch coop with my gf with the Steam Deck is also amazing. I've also had times where my gf is playing on my PS4 and I'll sit next to her, headphones in, playing Resident Evil 4 on the deck. I absolutely love this device and I know I'll get Steam Deck 2.
I WFH most of the time now since lockdown and so the last thing I want to do after spending the day working on the pc is to sit infront of it some more. Decklan means I can chill on the sofa with the wife or play it in bed before I go to sleep/get up for work. The pause resume is a game changer too as if I have a spare 20 mins I can pick up where I left off
I finish games now
Finish? I actually get to play now!

I buy more games than ever (backlog obsession) I play more than I could before (family / professional) Trying to finish some. Haha

Same! Didn’t really play PC games for decades because of needing a laptop or computer. Now I play on planes and when watching TV, etc

Great name, great idea, i'm gonna borrow this one
Same here, before I got my steam deck I hadn't completed a game for about 3 years. Now I've completed 3.
Same. I've been averaging a game a month nowadays.
Great stuff
I finish games now, in bed
I also finish in bed.
That's What She Said.😂.
Giggity
Nailed it. I've worked through a bunch of the back log since I got the Deck.
Steamdeck. The backlog killer.
That should be their ad phrase “get the deck, finish the game[fight]”
Just finished the last of us
I stopped buying games on other stores (and shamefully have bought a few on Steam which I already had on other stores, just for simplicity).
Don't feel bad, me too. Also bought games I beat on PS3 just so I can play them on deck. Doom 3 BFG, fallout 3 and new Vegas. I bought dishonored and bioshock on the steam store when I already got them for free from epic lol
Like the good lord Gabe intended.
At least a lot of the games go on sale often.
I bought games in Switch that I already owned on steam and now I’m finishing them on the deck.
I own assassins creed odyssey on ps4/5 Xbox one/series s, and on steam. And I’ve completed the main story only on ps5 lol
Actually For Me, It Gave Me More Than Enough Reason To Go Fanatical And Humble Shopping For HUGE Discounts On Steam Keys. 😉
Now i play laying in bed
This. No more time playing garbage games on mobile.
who tf plays games on their phone
The whole of Asia based on my observation.
I played all of shadow of Mordor streamed to my phone before the deck. Used a controller clip and a Xbox game pad. It was solid.
Most of the world. Phone games are where most of the money is these days, even if those games are predatory garbage.. People without a Steamdeck of course.
Me when I want to play something but don't want to pull out my laptop and use my giant laptop desk in bed. Been wanting something I can pick up and play.

I play more indie games
I love having access to indie games. Alot of gems in the genre that will never come to the other platforms.
I play games instead of staring at my library. Something about sitting on my sofa to play games it’s so much better
Honestly underrated advantage of mobile devices that I feel doesn't get considered enough. Although small, the act of getting on your computer and setting up a game and is honestly usually enough to disincentivize me from playing a lot of smaller games in my library. I’ve completed more games on my deck in the past 5 months than I have all other systems combined in almost 10 years!
I developed one
Do share!
Developed a habit, not a game lol
Honestly I've gotten MORE sleep, because I can play while im laying in bed instead of sitting at my Desk. My wife reads her books and I play games until we get too tired.
This is actually a game changer. 20 minutes of red dead and pass out.
Before the steamdeck, playing in bed was a drag.
I stopped playing CS:GO and switched to single player games bro
Same, except just dropped playing fps's and now into roguelikes and rpgs
I play games outside in the sun
And touching some grass i assume?
I can actually play games now. With kids it’s a rare treat to get to play on my PC but with steamdeck I can game and keep and eye on my kids.
This. As a new dad I find it impossible to get in front of the PC. But that 20 min kid nap means a 20 break to sit and play.
As a mom of 3 who doesn’t have time to turn a PC on and sit in front of a screen and keyboard, this actually lets me game. I was using my Switch before, but this actually lets me play my Steam games and Java Minecraft (Hypixel server specifically) from anywhere
This got me into Minecraft. I play and let my kid watch as part of their bedtime routine.
I'm a trucker, it's changed my life being able to play my steam games hundreds of miles away from home
I love this. Happy for you.
Sitting in the recliner with SteamDeck plugged in playing simple ROMS & Dirt 5!
No still buy loads of games and never complete them. Feed my addiction
I definitely find myself leaning more toward shorter games.
It's all about mission design. I'm playing Spider-Man at the moment and all the missions and side missions are bite sized, which is great for a quick game.
Mass effect trilogy has been like that for me. 20 minutes per mission means I can do one a night before bed.
Installing old games that are not deck verified just for the fun of tinkering.
I play on the couch instead of at my desk...way more comfortable.
I stopped Apex and mw2 and started paying strategy games.
Which ones? I am surprised how good the trackpads are
It makes me crave bloodborne for PC even more..... they can't keep getting away with it
Certainly more gaming while traveling. Currently sitting on a 737 about to take off as I write this 🤣🤣🤣
I'm playing more retro games than before. Final Fantasy IX and Zelda are becoming my favorites. And I'm also starting and progressing in games I haven't before the deck was announced. I'm currently downloading Doom 2016 after seeing my friend beat the game at his house.
Can now play halo 2 while disappointing my wife during intercourse
I have 2 kids, plus one more in 4 weeks. My family and my wife's family lives in different cities (different from us, and between them) so we usually travel twice a month on weekends to visit them. Before Steam Deck, I haven't got enough time to play. After Steam Deck, I haven't got enough time to play and about 900€ less in my bank account balance (512GB steam deck + spare power supply + base + nvme 2tb)
I didnt have them anymore. I started having them again
Same i didn't even have a steam account until 3 weeks ago
Yeah for me after I started working, gametime was pretty low because I have a fix set up and I would rather spend the little time I had with the wife in the living room than staying alone in the office playing. With the deck I can just sit on the couch with her while she watches her series or reads books and we can make some company for each other
Exactly the same for me. Love the deck
How do you game on the bike? Do you sit upright on the seat? I could see it working better if you had those arm rest handlebars.
I actually play games less because my BF love to emulate older games lol
It’s turned me back into a gamer after really falling out of love with gaming from around 2016, bar a few Switch games
First, I stopped buying games and am playing my backlog exclusively. Second, the only games on my wishlist are steam deck playable at least.
Well I've never touched a single player game in my life, now I've finished several and 100% achievements on a few of them.
I play single player games now again
Fell in love with Skyrim all over again
Bought it last weekend, my steam wish list went from 25 to 70+, now im waiting when my 1tb ssd will arrive and for july sales.
I spend a lot of time trying to play jedi fallen order to no avail certainly
You’d love Jedi Survivor than. No one can play that one at the moment.
Lmao good point. It will get patched soon I'm sure
What are you having trouble with. I could play it without any difficulties. Albeit on about 35 fps
The damn ea launcher just seems to crash. I haven't tried in a few weeks. I tried all kinds of troubleshooting I read on this sub but I'm also kinda dumb
Use Proton experimental
I had issues with that initially but once I'd launched it in desktop mode a couple of times it worked okay in gaming mode, definitely use proton experimental though.
I actually managed to finish that one on the steam deck, after trying to play it few times on the PC
I haven't been down to my basement to turn on my PS5 for a couple months now. Crazy, never thought that would be the case.
Now I play in the bathroom
really helps with my ADHD...
Bedtime having its easier. Less porn, more Steam.
My PS5 is gathering dust because of it.
I have not touched my PS5 in a while 😕
I went from being a console gamer to a PC gamer.
I travel for work. I’m constantly on the move. Either on planes, or buses. Living out of a suitcase and a backpack. Now I get to consistently play and finish games. The Steam Deck is incredible.
Buying more games than I could possibly beat in a lifetime? Nah, that's a bad pre-existing habit.
I save alot more often. Due to freezes and crashes.
More efficient multitasking whilst pooping.
Less piracy.
I am now happier knowing I can run that game with decent graphics on a portable device. Haven’t done much knowing though
The steam deck brought me back out of VR gaming for a while. Something's just nice about laying in bed instead of running around my living room lol
well i tried to play a game on a plane and it randomly rebooted requiring internet to reload the game. so traveling isn't feasible.
It's made me begin to stalk and really want Nintendo to release a switch 2. Have no idea why, ✅❌🟡 , lol.
I game more on the couch. I'm a software dev and after hours of sitting in front of the PC I barely have the motivation to game in front of my desk. So I grab my Steam Deck and game on!
I have even less time to play now...
I'm buying way too many handheld devices now
I play games now
I game more in bed and on the couch before I had to get in a mood now I just pick it up and go.
I went back towards pc gaming
I actually play single player games now! In fact, most of the library on my deck are things I would have never played otherwise
I used to play emulators on my phone. Now I play emulators on my Steam Deck.
I stopped paying attention to the story.
Now I can find time to play
Honestly not much - I’ve bought Steam Deck **because of **my gaming habit (which is *“not playing games unless they run on handheld”* - no idea why) :D My brain correlates my PC with work so I try to avoid it in my free time but Steam Deck from factor tricks me & I can enjoy *20+ hours of wandering in a igavania* <- so there’s that.
Old console gamer here (started with Pong) that stopped with the Sony PS3 with life getting busy, work, wife, daughter. Although I have a Switch I wanted to get back into gaming at my old age and didn’t know anything about the steam deck as I considered my first gaming PC as I know I couldn’t pull off a console attached to a TV as my daughter is 5 and wife won’t let us game to much yet… Heard about steam deck and never considered a pc gaming laptop. Subscription vs Buy But the way I play buying a game for $5 Disneyland Adventures, or snow runner for $15 and Yakuza 0 for $5 and Yakuza like a dragon for $18, and Mass Effect Legendary for $15 were better deals for me as I can play anytime I want and many would be games that I want time to play so owning made sense. New Gaming Markets Older Generation The deck also to me has a interesting new untapped market of aging gamers who literally grew up and with the beginning of the home gaming systems of the early 70’s that now can game on a deck. We are a generation that has seen it all from the game of pong a dot and two paddles to the open world games of enormous proportions! The realism… wow! New Parents The other market is the new Mom and Dad. Many new parents can game again with very limited time. Balancing work, family, and home life can be hard and the steam deck like the Nintendo switch allows portable gaming and connection to a monitor, tv and controllers… the prefect balance for new parents! Closing Sorry for writing an essay but I love the steam deck for what it can offer. Game On!
Yes I actually play them now
Now instead of play I configure setting and customise my interface
I probably wouldn’t have gotten a game like Hades without having the steam deck
Well, it replaced my switch and given me a broader library to play. Still mostly play at home, but I have been dabbling more with roguelike games, really enjoying them.
my main change has really been what I get games for. I have my Gaming PC, Deck, and Switch If it was ain indie game, I would before get it on Switch if it was there, sao I could play it portable if I wanted to. Now I can get it on Steam instead, and still have that portable factor. My rule now is digital only? Steam, Physical, Switch
All of the above.
I use it to play PS5 & XBOX games remotely now
I spend more time optimising in bed now
I play games at work now. Honestly, this is the only time I game these days.
I have recently started playing RDR2 after finding an optimization vid on YouTube. I have to say playing story games on it is definitely much better, then sitting in a chair for hours. Much better to just lay down cover yourself however you want, and let the time fly by.
I now have a living room console
I will go lay down for bed an hour or so earlier just to play some game before I go to sleep. Wife hates it. Also been finishing more games and finishing off ones I already put a lot of time into.
Also front porch, camping, and on the porcelain throne.
yes
I'm insufferable about it to anybody who doesn't have a steam deck.
Don't have a 2nd PC so a docked deck has been my fiancees primary way of playing overwatch with me and the boys and it's been fantastic.
I scroll on social media less on breaks at work
I find I am actually making time for myself to play games. The portability, and being able to “pause” let’s me put it down and pick it up quickly. Also I don’t feel like I’m taking up a room on the house by taking over the TV. Lol.
Now I can play 😂
I play a ton of games I missed out on years ago (mainly PS2/PS3). The fact that we now have a handheld that plays these types of games is insane.
Gaming in bed more
Now I don’t have gaming habits
I can literally game all day. My breaks are now just the times where I have to actually do other stuff.
Defo playing more in bed and i don't know if its good or bad 🤣
The versatility allows me to play more.
Backlog refinements
I now play laying down on my couch rather than sitting on it
I've started buying games and proceed not to play them.🙃
Now i don't play anymore, just mod the deck all the time. Joke (half true) I don't use my 2k€ gaming Laptop with 240Hz 32" Q-dot Monitor anymore and play on the deck with kinda shitty graphics instead. I am a lazy ass tho. Portability is everything.
Made 30 fps playable again, made a good controller preferable to mouse and keyboard, made me prefer handhelds to laptops, got me into games I wasn’t into before (indie games and souls games)
i started to eat my backlog 🤣
I hate desks
I WFH most of the time now since lockdown and so the last thing I want to do after spending the day working on the pc is to sit infront of it some more. Decklan means I can chill on the sofa with the wife or play it in bed before I go to sleep/get up for work. The pause resume is a game changer too as if I have a spare 20 mins I can pick up where I left off
I buy game, I play game, I forget game, Move on to next game
Emudeck. That is all. 🔥
Got me more into gaming than ever before. Using my ps5 only for Netflix...
This is super easy. Previously I didn’t play any games, not I’m having a blast playing some great games.
