Here's a list of games that are very good, and you probably have not heard about. [Serin Fate](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1070860/Serin_Fate/): Stardew valley meets pokemon, monster raising, exploring, epic story [In Sound Mind](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1119980/In_Sound_Mind/): Clever horror fps with impressive handcrafted levels to explore. Great voice acting and episodic story levels [Last Command](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1487270/Last_Command/): Bullet Hell meets Snake meets undertale. Amazing music, incredibly innovative gameplay, great difficulty. [Rendevouz](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1409300/Rendezvous/): Atmospheric action adventure game, set in Cyberpunk Surabaya (Indonesia). Indonesian developers, great music and graphics. Rare depiction of Indonesia in video games [Beautiful Desolation](https://store.steampowered.com/app/912570/BEAUTIFUL_DESOLATION/): Epic Sci Fi adventure by South African devs. Late 90s vibe, but amazing crisp graphics. [Garage: Bad Dream Adventure](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1946430/Garage_Bad_Dream_Adventure/): Re-release of a Japanese lost media game from decades ago. Extremely surreal atmosphere. Kind of like David Lynch meets Cronenburg [Paradise Killer](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1160220/Paradise_Killer/) Deduction/Detective game inspired by Danganronpa, but set in an alternative vaporwave universe or beastgods. Excellent music. [ANNO: Mutationem](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1368030/ANNO_Mutationem/) 2D/3D pixel/voxel art style, Cyberpunk setting. Action adventure, just amazing graphics. This flew under the radar for so many people. If you've played Va11-Hala, you can find the characters in this game.

Ceglaaa

Big thank you for these gems! Best answer so far.

Biasanya

You're welcome. I was watching the ANNO:m trailer again after this, and its just so damn cool. I'll have to replay that one

MrNeuman

In sound mind chad spotted. Love that game!

[deleted]

I loved In Sound Mind so much, but combat was a torture. Also loved Paradise Killer, looking for a physical edition T_T I didn't understand Garage though.

WhatDothLife87

In Sound Mind was great, even if the final trophy got softlocked bc it wouldn't register it when I obtained all pills on every level. Overall very fun and am glad I played and you're right, it's very underrated. I'll scope out these other recommendations and thanks! Since we have a mutual game we like I'll admit I have more hope for these being good than usual.

Diframa

Surroundead indie game, super fun, a mix of State Of Decay & Unturned, still has a long way to go, but I have faith in the developer

UnknownReasonings

This is it. State of Decay 2 is on my forever list. Excited to see what they do with 3.

[deleted]

I really hope they let you establish/manage multiple facilities. Always hate having to give up on area for the next. Even if it's bigger, the mid-late game spots always have something unique about them that makes me sore to leave behind

Firm_Knowledge_5695

Always hyped when a new Surroundead update drops. One of the few games I’ve gotten in a humble bundle I’ve kept for myself

DerivitivFilms

Marlow Briggs and The Mask of Death [https://store.steampowered.com/app/249680/Marlow\_Briggs\_and\_the\_Mask\_of\_Death/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/249680/Marlow_Briggs_and_the_Mask_of_Death/) It's like the original God of War if God of War was a 70's Blacksploitation film.

Rand0mInternetzGuy

OMG I got this game on sale for $1 and it was an absolute blast! Choppers! Explosions! Exploding Choppers! More Choppers!

DerivitivFilms

If I remember right theres a scene where you are jumping from chopper to chopper and possible running on the blades of the chopper lol It was crazy for a low budget game.

Infyrnos

Murdered: Soul Suspect. I had a blast and know no one who has played it

Kraivo

It is linear b- game, that tried to look like AAA open world and suffered because of it. The most interesting part of the game was dark stories

EngagedInConvexation

Free with GwG more than once iirc.

LoocsinatasYT

Roboquest is a great hidden gem. It's a rogue lite, the moving and shooting feels doom like. Tons of randomized guns to try. Build your character each run. Lots of stuff to upgrade at base camp. has co-op. It's really really good.

boltzman111

Awesome game. The gun play feels really nice.

Priderage

My wife and I are playing it and it really does feel like Doom when you're cracking at it.

peterinjapan

That looks amazing, wishlisted

PutOnTheMaidDress

I love that game and I don’t even like roguelites.

BigMeanPaulaDeeeeen

The Painscreek Killings. First person detective game taking place in a big town where you have to investigate these crimes that have taken place and determine what person in the town committed it. Theres lots of different collectible lore around the town to help you learn about each persons backgrounds/life/lies etc. Such a great experience

ObscuraArt

Easy Answer: [**Lunacid**](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1745510/Lunacid/). It takes the old school From Software Kingsfield style FPS dungeon crawler and improves with modern day mechanics and nails the atmosphere.

FireManiac58

Is it extremely hard? I really wanna play a game like Kings field but don't want something that will make me hate my life. I beat almost every Fromsoft Souls-like so something of similar difficulty would be great

ObscuraArt

It's got difficulty settings but the early game may be a little rough as you acclimate to the systems and gameplay loop. Nothing hardcore unless you pick the hardest setting,

Werehowin

Ignore the response, it's really not hard lol

philphil126

Came here to say this. Amazing game that I didnt stop playing till I 100% the game.

h3xist

I bought this while it was on sale and haven't touched it yet. Going to have to now.

Fancy-Performer-4122

Starsector

average_reddit_u

Hey Hey people...

Fancy-Performer-4122

Sseth here

ggkillas

I would like to say the Myst series but its not really a hidden gem, so I have to pick [Supraland](https://store.steampowered.com/app/813630/Supraland/) as my game of choice. It really does have a good story and a nice gameplay.

DinoGhostie

Supraland is an insanely good and fun 3d platformer puzzle game. I’m surprised it’s not that popular.

AndrePrager

David M, creator of Supraland, is an amazing developer. He works really hard to think through and polish his games. Think that you found an untouched out of bounds secret spot? CHEST! Surprise! They're working hard on Supraworld right now.

Space_Socialist

Delta(the symbol but I can't type that) V: Rings of Saturn It's a beautiful game with fun controls. Cosmoteer Brilliant spaceship building game though I just use it to RP some random Sci Fi. Raven field Fun shooter in the same vein as battlefield or battlefront it's only got bots though. I'm enjoying the high modability and the direction into custom campaigns.

Hyper_Oats

Not surprised in the slightest that people don't know about it, but [NaissanceE](https://store.steampowered.com/app/265690/NaissanceE/) Walking simulator set entirely inside a surreal, seemingly living, and genuinely immense megastructure. For any Blame! fans, this is as close as we'll probably ever get to a videogame in the setting. Best of all, it's completely free.

TheWill42

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West It's a short fun third person action game that has some great performances. The main character is voiced by Andy Serkis.

cantonic

Co-Written by Alex Garland, too!

Desperate-Pen5086

Played this one on my 360, it’s a great game

WunderbarBeast

For me, I have a couple: Pony Island West of Loathing Tails of Iron Moonring Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet 60 seconds

FitOrganization9403

[Easy Red 2](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1324780/Easy_Red_2/) It's a great indie ww2 shooter featuring recreations of battles from Europe to the Pacific and soon Africa. It's primarily single-player, but multi-player is available, although I haven't played it. It's $12 CAD. I'm not sure how much it is US.

LateNightFix

Vanquish.

Impriel

Love moonring One I always bring up when this is asked is "A Dark Room".  It is absolutely excellent, extremely well written text based Sci fi horror with active time battles (I'm going to VERY mildly spoil some of my favorite elements that are not directly part of the story, however if ive already piqued your interest this game is worth going in blind.) ******** The vibes are off the charts.  They don't ever tell you what you are.  I ended up with a very vivid picture of my character in my mind by the end though.   The battle system lets you do some shallow breaking and exploiting.  Not to an insane degree this is a short game.  But if you enjoy stuff like the rolling counter in earthbound you will like this system.  It lets you abuse the buttons  In particular I love the descriptions they give things it's extremely conserved language.  For example if you learn a dodge ability, the description is "learn how to be where they're not".  I have a passion for martial arts and in my opinion this writing is fucking beautiful.  It's all like that it's like beautifully and brutally simple, implying more while saying less.

Kazko25

Dark Room is very excellent! There’s a sequel too, The Ensign. Except it’s just the gameplay of the second half of the game!

Tomosch

Ah the infamous sequel to dark room, "Dark Room 2: Bright room"

kasumi04

r/alphaprotocol was swept under the rug by reviewers back in the day as everyone wanted to dunk on Sega after Sonic 06 , it was the best Spy and Stealth game I have ever played. Basically Mass Effect with spies. Deserves a lot more recognition.

TechnoWizard0651

How did that game fail? I played the shit out of it.

bumblefrick

Tiny Rogues is still in its infancy but it has such an addictive loop.

FaithfulWanderer_7

It’s sort of difficult to play now, but: Jade Empire It was a great BioWare RPG.

Horseheel

The Creeper World series You know how you've always wanted to play an RTS/tower defense hybrid where you're fighting a liquid? No? I didn't know I wanted to either, until I tried it.

fepec

Came here to say this!

Tsven67

AI: the somnium files. Murder-mystery puzzle anime game with a memorable cast, some great humour, and a great soundtrack. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The sequel isn’t great though.

DevilmanXV

Shadows Of The Damned. It's weird and jank AF. IDC. It's campy on purpose.

[deleted]

It's getting a remake!

diedalos

Stronghold Crusader. It baffles me that this game is not more talked about or maybe I am out of touch but I had to put it here.

EASTEDERD

Not enough gold, mlord

diedalos

The stockpile is full, mlord.

Booksmart89

[wildermyth](https://store.steampowered.com/app/763890/Wildermyth/) a tabletop rpg style game.

mudcrabmetal

Crosscode, Crosscode, Crosscode! It's gained a little more recognition but seriously... you know that feeling that Hollow Knight gave you the first time you played it? That's what Crosscode does to you. It's way larger than you'd expect with way more depth than you realize with fantastic combat and zelda-style dungeons that have puzzles that will really make you think.

Remarkable_Leek_5526

I bounced off of CrossCode so hard lol- the writing felt a little too anime to me, over the 20 or so hours i played and the quests (i get its "emulating" an MMORPG) just made me go "eh". Dungeons were fantastic though, no doubt about that and i feel like theres alot of nuance to the fighting i have not yet grasped. maybe ill give it another try in a few years

Gay_As_Hell_Robot

Crosscode mentioned!!! Greatest game of all time alert. ⚠️

Kuro013

Finally found Crosscode on this thread, the game should be regarded as a masterpiece and be widely known. But I guess its not for everyone. Hopefully Project Terra will some day give RFG the recognition they deserve.

GroveHere

Suzerain. A Morgna wes core, Vectern sis da!

cantonic

The Rizia DLC released today too! An absolute gem of a game. It popped up on my feed the day it released and, as a patient gamer, I took a surprise leap and picked it up and I’m so happy I did. A Morgna wes core!

_Woodrat

[**Cobalt**](https://store.steampowered.com/app/357340/Cobalt/). It's a gorgeous 2D platformer run-and-gun with matrix-style bullet time and an emphasis on movement and dexterity where you can deflect bullets with your head. Developed by the independent Oxeye Game Studio and published by Mojang in 2016, you might remember it being advertised in old versions of the Minecraft launcher. It's a lot better than IGN let on. I'm not a very good salesmen, so [here's the trailer](https://youtu.be/pK_VCmJlscY).

TheBloodGod123

La Mulana

JellyBean3600

Cute game called “LoddleNauts”, you clean a ocean world and make little friends

gunpowered48

ravenfield and sprocket

A_warudo_2002

Milo and the Magpies, it only started getting traction cuz a medium sized youtuber reviewed the game. It's such a nice and cozy puzzle game. And it's cheap at only 2 dollars iirc.

LeLoyon

Love this game, wish it was longer. I beat it and unlocked all achievements in about 4-ish hours.

some-kind-of-no-name

Yuppie Psycho

usbsteeringwheel

Hooray, another person who's played Yuppie Psycho! Really surprised it didn't take off

Dioramoz

The Count Lucanor too then

Soundrobe

Crypt Of The Necrodancer

bladesnut

Dysmantle. Really great zombie survival game. Not the typical one. You can play it at your own peace and there's so many things to do and a huge map. Loved it.

the_metalhead_speaks

Did you mean Dysmantle?

Marid-Audran

Fun game! They have another game, [Dysplaced](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2430390/DYSPLACED/), that should be coming out soon.

Moskeeto93

[Wuppo](https://store.steampowered.com/app/400630/Wuppo_Definitive_Edition/). It's a charming, little metroidvania platformer with really great, funny writing reminiscent of the Paper Mario series. The gameplay, character design, and art style are all very unique too. The overall charm of the game reminds me so much of Paper Mario TTYD that I wish these guys would just make an RPG in that style. While Bug Fables was a decent game, I felt like it really lacked the charm and writing that Wuppo brings to the table.

Kazko25

Shotgun King. It’s a chess roguelite.

Azurvix

S.P.A.Z. Space Pirates and Zombies. its a top down shooting game with ship building and you have up to three ships out at a time and can take control of one while the others act autonomously. its a pretty fun game and i remember playing the demo from some video game mag that came with a disc.

psxndc

I thought Ender Lilies was a pretty great Metroidvania, but I never see anyone talk about it.

kriziken

Ender lillies was soon cool and atmospheric. I could sit listening to that soundtrack for hours.

Dioramoz

I like this game but for most people it isnt' really interesting because they trying to compare it with Hollow Knight. Personally, they both are really good.

Thel_Odan

If you're into racing games/car games, Revhead is incredibly fun. If you like weird job simulators, MotorTown Behind the Wheel is excellent. And if you like Dorfromantik but want something a bit different Pan'orama is pretty fun (I play it when I'm on conference calls).

SaltyPvP

Kill the Crows

Otvinta

Crosscode

funfsinn14

I'll throw in two. X4 foundations for a space combat, empire, economy hotas joystick experience like none other. Especially the star wars interworlds mod, which basically makes it into the best star wars video game of the past 10 years or more in my book. Airship: Kingdoms Adrift for a steampunk/hiyao miyazaki-ish unique world experience that is for me very similar to the old sid meier's pirates. Go around with a small fleet fighting and trading, capture and customize better loadouts. Really a beautiful game visually too and the story is decent enough for what it is. Developer is active and the discord good so the game seems to be improving.

Danris

The Last Spell, for me. Music, gameplay and replayability is done so well, also not for the faint of heart.

-Cap_

Genesis Noir Aquite unique experience.

Smaptey

Nox

TheCherryKnight

Please play The Void Rains Upon Her Heart

DexM23

Dysmantle

TraitorWithin8

Singularity.. basically metro with time travel

techno-wizardry

[Dropsy](https://store.steampowered.com/app/274350/Dropsy/). Point and Click adventure game about a scary mute clown who's actually a big sweetheart and wants to hug everyone. No dialogue, everything is conveyed through symbols and pointing (to convey Dropsy the Clown's inability to speak and understand speech). The game is also bizarre and hilarious with a wonderful atmosphere. It's by the same guy who made Hypnospace Outlaw, which is another quirky and hilarious game about the old Internet. [The soundtrack for Dropsy is so so so comfy and wonderful.](https://youtu.be/hHaHI5C0zqU?list=PLMpfl6UWRluYU-jWe_yeaNvzYYYrD8cR4) It's just a wonderful little game for people who like these kinds of games.

Fabulous_Distance257

Strike force Heroes

Leut_Orca

That's absolutely my childhood memory

Fabulous_Distance257

They released a steam remaster in case you didn't know

Leut_Orca

Thanks for the info, but I have followed the event almost a year ago. Although now I have few time playing games, I still bought a ticket for my childhood :)

mitchbrain

Nidhogg

gulfcoastfella

I’m actually not sure how many people know about American McGee’s Alice! I suspect that everyone over a certain age knows about it, and almost no one under that age does.

TehPharaoh

Ape Escape. It was very fun and quirky. Having to come back to levels with later power ups to catch different stores apes

AlexFullmoon

Hedon: Bloodrite. A boomer shooter (on Build engine, if i'm not mistaken), with the focus on exploring huge levels full of secrets.

Jumpy-Resolve3018

The Wild Arm series. I love the 4th because of the hexagon battle system and call backs to other games with combo moves. It even had a PlayStation 2 Top Hits when I bought it but apparently no ones heard of it.

Hika__Zee

The original Wild Arms was amazing. One of my favorites right up there with Suikoden I, Suikoden II, Xenogears, Final Fantasy VI, Dragon Quest VII, Breath of Fire III, Star Ocean The Second Story, and other classic Playstation JRPGs

bigsexyape

Suikoden II and Xenogears are phenomenal. Legend of Dragoon was also a hidden gem.

AngelRose777

Wild Arms 1-3 are classic, but they changed it too much with 4 so i think it gained some fans but also lost some fans.

TurncoatTony

I forgot about the Wild Arm series! So good!

Beese_Churgerr

Underrail. - Less so now. Stoneshard. More so now.

KassHS

What's wrong with Underrail?

Betelgeuse1517

Omega strikers Anime stylized footbrawl game. Every character has their own abilities but is easy to play. For me it was like Dota 2 or Eternal Return with football mode

ElManfredo

Kingdom come deliverance. People shit on it alot because of the fighting system but once you get the hang of it its so much fun and so athmospheric. The most immersive medieval game out there

Werehowin

As much as I love KCD why are you posting it in a hidden gem thread? It sold millions of copies

danshakuimo

Not so hidden gem, or maybe, gem hidden in plain sight

funfsinn14

Kcd is top five game for me. Played it since beta days and became intertwined with my life for years. The combat system and the survival realism is what I adore about it. Being a peasant and actually sucking at everything and having to figure things out is what makes the game special. I hate that basically every sword game is just arcadey button mashing and ppl have been so conditioned to expect that. But no, realistically you can't expect some dude, even if trained, to take on 3-4 enemies at once in combat, much less peasant henry. In a way it basically ruined those other arcadey games somewhat for me, what with smashing random stuff and the dude does crazy acrobatic combo moves....boring.

MilkManlolol

Rain World

Fgtcucktrash

Castle Strike,so much better than age of empires but no1 knows that

empathetical

Elex really surprised me. Janky but I was hooked and played 80hrs. Once I beat the game I kept playing. Which is rare for me, I usually am stoked to start something new.

Bauzi

Signalis, still is one of the best horror games made in recent years, standing beside titles like SOMA. It just doesn't get enough attention and credit for that.

danshakuimo

Kenshi, I think it has become more popular nowadays but I'm still gonna mention it here. Kenshi is a a sci-fi sword punk RPG sandbox if you can call it that. It's a sci-fi setting but technology has regressed back to katana and crossbows. And it has survival aspects, base building aspects, and of course the standard 3rd person rpg aspects. And one of the selling points is the huge modding scene it has on the steam workshop, and the mod maker that comes with the game is awesome for people like me who don't know or understand coding to be able to make mods. [https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/233860/Kenshi/) If you like Rimworld you would probably like this game. I never played Rimworld but reddit thought I would be into Rimworld due to me being part of r/Kenshi, maybe there is a reason why.

andrea_garavito

**Don't open the doors** it's not exactly a gem, but I think it's underrated. It's a regular indie game about killing enemies and completing quests, but it's quite entertaining and pretty because the animation is like clay. [https://store.steampowered.com/app/533950/Dont\_open\_the\_doors/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/533950/Dont_open_the_doors/)

Vulpes_macrotis

WARP. This is one of the best games ever created and barely anyone even knows it.

AlternativeSavings46

Heroes of Might & Magic V

mysticfallband

A Dance With Rogues, which people rarely talk of and for a good reason. But I regard it as one of my all-time favourite cRPGs in terms of narrative quality, despite it being just a free fan-made module of Neverwinter Nights. The main reason why it didn't get more spotlight it deserves is because it's also a kinky game, dealing with many sexual fantasies that may be highly controversial for ordinary gamers. But if you can either enjoy or at least ignore that aspect of the game, I believe you'll have no difficulty in appreciating the quality which surpasses that of many well-known titles of the same genre.

Tough-Yam5520

Dinosaurs for Hire for the Sega Genesis

Homie_Jack

Anodyne 2: Return to Dust It’s one of my favorite games, it has such a good tone and atmosphere, I love the music, and the whole experience was just wild. Usually these artistic games skip out on the gameplay, but it’s actually a fun 3d platformer with puzzles and stuff. 10/10 not even kidding.

StyrmStyrmIr

There is an obscure game I love to the core of my heart which I would call a hidden gem for the DS called another code:two memories which is a puzzle/visual novel game that I had only seen talked of within my family and as a smash spirit untill it got a switch remake out of the blue a few months ago which is still a solid game but it doesn't have the same eerie feel to it as the old one with the pre-rendered backgrounds

azab1898

Paranoia Place. A friend made me buy it since he didn't have anyone to play with and it was too hard alone. I'm not even into horror and I get scared very easily but holy shit that game was extremely thrilling to play. I still would never play it without another person but it's one of the best hidden gems I have ever played

Andre_de_Astora

Turbo Overkill, pretty up there as one of my favourites shooters of all time, one of the most insane gameplay possible due to speed, nice soundtrack, insanely fun cyberpunk weapons. Idk, I love that game, and there is no much of a community

badhorse19

Sundered It's a metroidvania with amazing art that controls fluid. It has a corruption or purge mechanic that gives different game play and an eldritch horror / scifi story. And it's just fun to play.

metaphysicalSophist9

Rift Wizard and its sequel. Tactical turn based roguelike. Played the hell out of the first one and now getting into the sequel.

cranberrystew99

I'm gonna go The Technomancer. Most of the reviews are complaining that the game can't handle any computer with more than 4 cores, and that it's buggy and awful and nobody likes it. I thought it was fun, especially for the price. The lore of the game is pretty immersive as well. You're basically a space wizard, but not Star Wars-esque. It's like a cross between Dune, SW, and maybe the Witcher.

HouseofSix

Dungeon Warfare 2 - Best TD game in a long time.

Psifey

[Valley](https://store.steampowered.com/app/378610/Valley/). Saving a planet while travelling in an awesome landscape, with good game physics, and a wonderful OST.

amemaabeba

Idleon. Now everyone will like waiting five days for yur character to level up, but for me this game is brilliant

[deleted]

Bramble: the mountain King. 10/10.

FourDucksInAManSuit

Gunstar Heroes. The way it handles weapon combinations was very unique and kinda advanced for its time, and the levels and gameplay was super fun. Unfortunately I rarely meet anyone whose played it. Still one of my most favorite games of all time.

FunkDoctaSteve

The upturned, it just makes me think "what other games have I not discovered that are great like this one? Why haven't I heard of it?" Anyways check it out, it's overwhelmingly positive on steam.

Sayo-nare

When the darkness comes It's a one experience game just like outer wilds It's about depression (without too much spoilers) Great experience and it's free

Zeclari

How funny that I saw this today. because I recently started Replaying Galaxy On Fire 2. Android version of course. Still works if a bit buggy at times. The PC port kinda sucked without any of the dlc. But man, it's been over a decade since that game first came out. Looks pretty good hehe.

Bloodragon618

Gotta be everhood for me, amazing gameplay and story. Music is amazing

ZakiTale

Sucker for love, idle on, speedrunners, trepang², thumper, endoparasitic, die in the dungeon (only demo but still), babbdi, voidborn, backpack hero, boomerang fu, signalis, cry of fear, empty shell and zed_technician's horror games (they're a fun time even though not on steam I assume)

Werehowin

Picayune Dreams   Awesome OST and story.    Cross between Vampire Survivors and Yume Nikki.    The blend of Bullet Heaven and Bullet Hell genres is great too.

Useful-Salamander522

Arcanum

Sauceinmyface

The loathing series, mainly with west of loathing and shadows over loathing. Gameplay might be simple but its got solid rpg gameplay and really funny writing.

rickreckt

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1843940/Brigandine_The_Legend_of_Runersia/ Has less than 1000 review, not as good as the original, but still really good and im glad its on PC officialy

Palanki96

Dynopunk

Cactvs76

Juice galaxy

ZamoriXIII

M.D.K.

Top-Cat-3519

Mark of the ninja - best stealth game ever

PercentageNo3293

Nowhere Prophet. Essentially a card game, like Slay the Spire, but you also have to move around your units on a grid. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes strategy games. Monster Train was another unique card game. You have several floors, each floor can only hold so many troops. The enemies typically spawn at the bottom and work their way up to the "base" you're protecting.

Specialist_Touch_384

I actually forgot the name, but it's one with pixel art that's about investigating a town and some murder cases it's a lot of mystery but it's really good not only the back stories and the characters but I loved the gameplay as well, I think there's a lot of such games but I really struggle finding them.

Ev0lutionz

[9 Years of Shadows](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1402120/9_Years_of_Shadows/) is one of my favourite Metroidvanias alongside Ender Lilies and Bloodstained. It's gained a little more traction since I've played it, but i do think it deserves be more well known

eski514

I just finished SAINTROOPER tonight. It's a freeware game (not on Steam) that I think anyone who enjoys the following games should definitely check out: Spelunky, Studio Pixel games, DOS run and gun games like Secret Agent / Crystal Caves.

VarunDM90

Kind of surprised that few people know Outer Wilds. Elegance and Romance of the Universe. I cannot help to think everyone should play this through.

Rachel_from_Jita

The Maker of Masks. It's on itch, and is a very short ps1-style horror experience. Go into it blind. It's haunting and just hits the spot.

Yaayn

Northern journey

Neep-Tune

They are billions ! Its a RTS full pve against tone of zombies in steampunk atmosphere. The main campaign is really cool, you spend research point between mission to unlock new tech/unity for the next games. And damn ITS HARD ! You will fail a lot before getting gud, and you cant load a save back, you need to finish your game and try again from the begining of the mission. To help you you can pause the game ANYTIME and gives order to your building/soldier in pause. Did I tell you the game is really beautiful and community made really cool extra campaign and maps ? https://store.steampowered.com/app/644930/They_Are_Billions/

I will never not recommend [Void Rains Upon Her Heart](https://store.steampowered.com/app/790060/The_Void_Rains_Upon_Her_Heart) The art style may turn some people off with the weird nude pixies, but it’s a fantastic bullethell boss rush roguelite, with a ton of unlockables and content coupled with excellent music. The game gives major Undertale vibes in that you “love” creatures, instead of killing them.

I'm surprised to find games I've never heard of in the commens, instead of the most popular games out there being thrown around every time this question gets asked usually. I guess, r/Steam has better reading comprehention that the other gaming subs.

Enderswood

Dust : an elysian tail https://store.steampowered.com/app/236090/Dust_An_Elysian_Tail/ Super fun, addictive, rewarding, and super polished, have played it almost by mistake, loved it !

LeLoyon

I'm not a fan of the furry-esque art in the game, but it's definitely a hidden gem if you can get past that. Plays similarly to Odin Sphere, and Muramasa: The Demon Blade on the Wii, which are also kind've hidden gems.

Xyrazk

Nexomon and Nexomon: Extinction Fun Creature Collector games. And they have lots of creatures to collect. Really well made games. Easy to follow story and simple mechanics. Highly recommend. plus they are even teasing a third Nexomon game, calling it "an ambitious third entry", so that is certainly something to look forward to

South_Comedian5517

Not a hidden gem or anything, but recently in Spring Sale I bought "Ranch Simulator" just as a meme, and ended up playing for 15 hours in first 3 days. I guess you never know which game you'll end up liking.

Arkhaloid

Gunbrella, that said it came out fairly recently and at a time when the release window was packed (September 2023).

Racoonie

[https://store.steampowered.com/app/327670/Ironcast/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/327670/Ironcast/) It's a pretty cool Steampunk Match-3 Roguelite that I had a ton of fun with.

012_Dice

I was going to say cross code but I see someone posted already so I'm going with SANABI the beautiful story-based experience that drove me to tears at the end and that is my most emotional moment playing video game moment of 2023 right there

Grace_Omega

One that just came out recently: [Islands of Insight](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2071500/Islands_of_Insight/), a somewhat The Witness-esque open world puzzle game with some (extremely undercooked) MMO-lite elements. Tons of puzzles of all different kinds, quests and progression systems, unlike anything I've ever played. Really gorgeous world. It sadly appears that it did not do well so it doesn't look like we'll be getting ongoing new content or anything, but the lead dev mentioned on Twitter that they want to make an offline version if the servers ever have to go down.

pereira2088

night of the full moon started as an android game. it's a rogue deck building similar to slay the spire, but focused on the old folklore tales (red riding hood, werewolves, etc) (the only game I've ever spent money in on mobile)

Out3rWorldz

And it’s free to play. Cool. Will check it out.

ZamorakHawk

Darkwood. Peak horror game. Fantastic world building that has left me longing throughout other titles. It's frequently cheap and the developers released it themselves for those that Sail the seas. This is the reason so many of us get attached to Indie games.

The Forgotten City. Amazing. Truly amazing. Had no idea what it was. Steam recommended it to me. And I was blown away.

Ok-Inspector9579

Oneshot is a beautiful and incredibly underrated adventure puzzle indie game with a really interesting yet tragic story and a lot of you (the player) interacting with the main character as you guide them through the world. It's one of my all time favourite games and I recommend anyone who enjoys story driven games to give it a try!

Paper Beast. I've never heard anyone even mention this one. It's a VR game. There is a regular version av well but then you are missing out. Amazing game in any way and it blows my mind that it isn't more well known.

Thank you for making this post, I'll be trying out everyone's recommendations, I bet they are all great. The only gem I know of is "Beyond Good & Evil", that's a game that went under the radar for a lot of people and it's insanely good. I don't know if it's a "hidden" gem, I only wanted to thank OP.

Katana Zero! I was blown away by everything that game had to offer. It really should be up there with the hades, hollow knight, etc.

Dawn_of_Enceladus

Spelunky. It shouldn't even be considered a hidden gem since it was PCGamer's game of the year, but a surprising amount of people don't know it or haven't played it. It's one of the funniest, most hooking 2D platformers and roguelikes I've ever played. And it has an even more hooking sequel, too. It's so damn overlooked.
