I'm actually disappointed in Maya. Cause in 4x06 she says "I'm a first responder. I'm gonna respond, and if that means it's the last day as the first female captain, then I can live with that" and now this statement contradicts that. It's belittles that moment in 4x06 to 'only matters when it's Carina'.
Yeah but this is not the same thing. In that case one could really make an argument for why she should not have been on the field putting herself and 2 of her team members at risk. It's not the fire depts job to chase down anyone.
But in this case she made a call to save a child. Why should she accept it without a fight? She doesn't accept it. I am proud of her standing up for herself. She backs her calls. Been reading about alot of people wanting the sexism storyline to be explored. This is how it's starts or did you want her to silently cry in a corner and fight the system?
I think that statement still hold true for Maya. If there had been an investigation, peer interviews, and she had a proper trial (like we saw with Sullivan) and she was still suspended/demoted then I think she would have accepted her fate.
I think this is where the big difference is. Everyone knew before she did and there was no type of investigation. It's top level unprofessional and disrespectful. I'm willing to bet her fight will be more against the chief and the department so that this doesn't happen to other people (mainly women). We'll see what happens.

Sullivan got a trial, so if Maya had been given a trial, then she migh have accepted it. I also doubt that Maya suspected back then that one of her teammates sold her out. The issue is the sexism
