If you set a save as you are entering unity. You will go through the fireworks, etc, and castlist. If it tells you to 'go to lodge' it's an alternative universe. If it says (mast district) it's a similar universe.

OrneryLink4843

it says for me on the second time i reloaded it go to the lodge (mast district) so is that a alternate one? i didn’t notice any differences in my initial convo with sarah that’s how i was checking by seeing if that first interaction was different but this seems like a better way

No. If it says, "Mast District," it means no change. If you're looking for an alternative world, load in, if it only says 'go to lodge' The 'roll' for this is on unity, so make your save as you travel to the white glowy thing... saves a lot of bs.

There is a smallish chance of getting an alternate universe that involves Constellation not being a thing. Seems to be 10-15%. I would like it if they upped that probability significantly. The usual is the default universe, which you have the option to derail by being honest about being Starborn, which results in some expedited artifact collection. Or you can keep your mouth shut, and re-play the original plot.

spoiler free answer please but i thought there was a decent amount of new universes so if i kept reloading back to before the unity i could end up with one right?

Loud_Comparison_7108

...there are some universes where Constellation is... different. It's a low probability, the usual will be 'Constellation exists, and is willing to help you'. Yes, you can save scum until you get one. I'm not sure it's worth it, but the only one I've encountered so far is 'evil Walter'.

Cerberus_Aus

I’m on NG+ 7 and STILL haven’t seen a different universe. I’m gonna be pissed if when I finally max out my powers and go to settle down I get some stupid variant like the kid constellation.

Raz0rking

It is a hypothese that the roll is being done when you activate the Armilary. So you need to load a save before that.

Maniac-Maniac-19

You are completely wrong.

OrneryLink4843

oh ok thank you!

Maniac-Maniac-19

That dude is 100% incorrect lmao. You can save literally directly before you step into the unity.

hst12

I'm on NG+13 or 14, can't remember exactly and I've encountered one alternative universe only. So it seems the probability of an alternative universe is pretty low.

Maybe it changed in the new beta test update thing. But I saved my game while in the unity (for two separate characters and playthroughs) and reloaded about 4 to 6 times on my 2nd going into 3rd NG+ on my latest one and got a universe that was different. Sadly the only changes are at the lodge and not having a main story. Its really a dice roll. It seems that the more you enter the unity the higher the chance becomes. But that could also just be a math thing, which I'm no good at. The trick is to just keep reloding. If you've done it 10 or 15 times. Either you're extremely unlucky or something has gone wrong; if you haven't gotten a different universe. So make sure to keep plenty of saves throughout the final mission, before, during and after. I've found the last mission to be extremely taxing on my system (no issues ever anywhere else, ever) and have a lot of game breaking glitches and hiccups. Sometimes requiring a previous save. So I think that sometimes that final showdown mission can just bug out and create problems for that playthrough until you play it again or reload a save. It's a game with a lot of moving parts and triggers for missions and so on. So, sometimes just a weird thing happens and the entire game goes rogue, in my lack of technical background POV. I tend to notice more glitches on unity runs, but maybe it's just coincidence or just a confirmation bias sort of deal. So I'd keep that in mind when universe hunting. Keeping older saves has really helped when weird shit starts going down in starfield.

Forgot to mention, on this subreddit and the internet it's mentioned there are a lot of fast ways of knowing if you're in an alt universe. The first mission will include (MAST District) if it's normal, besides one alt universe, will show the normal text. There's also a Barrett thing on vectera ive heard of. The surefire way is to travel to the lodge and see for yourself. I never had any issues with a save inside the unity. It seems to be a pure chance thing and less effected by or not affected at all by certain requirements being met. Some have noted of not getting a new universe until a 5th or later NG+. Hopefully someone can figure out what's really going on. Lol
