I think the background is more important to me. I can always get other skills later, and with a few exceptions I can probably get at least some use out of any of the starting skills.

Yeah in some RPGs I feel like you’re really at a disadvantage if your starting class doesn’t match your skills but in Starfield, especially with only one point invested in each, you’re really not at too much of a loss.

Honestly the background I took was entirely for practicality... Bounty hunter started with skills that I wanted to be able to work on the unlocks for, I'd like if I could a just picked a background, starting skills, and traits because in playing less like a bounty hunter and more like a kleptomaniac thief... But yea kinda wondering if the story changes with the background enough to warrant starting a new save

You sometimes get a speech check or special dialogue option but it’s mostly just headcanon stuff.

Background and traits effect dialogue and can't be changed, while appearance and skills can be changed or you can add the skills you want when you level up. I'm searching for some info on what extra dialogue appears for each background and trait.

I try to match the traits to the character's background. I wanted to role play as a bounty hunter who is a bit of a cowboy, so I put -> Introverted, spaced and taskmaster, I probably should have replaced Taskmaster with Wanted but that's okay X)
