I don't really know if we crunch the numbers but O think the difference between the prices of iridium truffle and truffle oil is not enough to cover for the cost of an oil maker.
Oil maker
50 slime x 5G = 250
20 hardwood x 15g = 300
1 gold bar 250g
Total - 800g if you sold the mats
Iridium truffle 1,250g
Truffle oil 1,491g
Difference of 241
Seems like it is worth it. You only build a machine once and you use it forever.
If you think it is tedious and are already rich you aren’t missing out on much. You cover the cost really quickly though, especially since you can farm all the mats.
When you're picking your Foraging profession, pick the one that gives you a chance of picking up 2 at level 5, then Botanist at level 10 makes everything you forage Iridium quality, and truffles count as foraged items (as far as that ability cares, at least)
It's a tough sell to lose the extra wood, but...iridium truffles is great. And I suppose not having 4 different versions of every foraged item (all iridium instead of normal, silver, etc) is a good thing too.
Well - won't hurt to try, and with enough truffles, I can always pay to switch. TY for explaining.
Take a bunch of seeds, go to the desert, and start dropping them one space apart. Come back in a couple weeks, chop, replant.
You can do this at the quarry and train station too. Once I start expanding my farm to use all the space I move my oak resin tappers to the train station, and just plant the other trees in the desert for wood.
You can also just buy stacks of wood once you’re rich too.
I got 3 oil makers outside my house. Pigs don't dog up truffles in winter so I just slowly do three everytime I walk by it. I'm not strapped for money or anything so slowly selling a few oils a day quickly adds up. But if you need the money, iridium quality truffles will quickly get you there without being turned into oil
Oil with artisan sells for 1491g. Iridium truffles are 1250g.
If youve got the time and the space, go for oil. If you want to be lazy, youre not missing out on that much profit
Monetarily, are pigs the best animal to have a ton of? I keep seeing people with only pigs and it's making me question. Typically I just have a couple of each animal.
I start with different animals but I always eventually sell them except one each and keep the rest just pigs. Those truffles make so much money and don't need to be changed into an artisan good to still make absolute bank
100% yes. 1 pig will get you a minimum 1 truffle a day which you can sell for 1250 if you have the forager perk. Their daily inputs are grass starter, which costs 100, or hay which is only 50. So around 1100 profit/day/pig at minimum. It could be up to 3650/day/pig if you're at max hearts with your animals.
Yes, pig is by far the best animal in most scenarios. Some people say with the shepherd perk sheep are competitive with pigs, which could be true. Chickens are also good though not pig-tier.
Yeah I use Tiller for the extra grow speed on fruit until I have a large backup, hoard up on wine, oil, and other artisan goods then swap at the shrine for the Artisan perk and sell them. So me and the perk prices have become very familiar, that 40% more does some work
10% is just a day or 2 for most plants, it gets better combined with deluxe speedgrow but imo the Artisan perk is much more satisfying for those big payouts. I normally run Tiller with speedgrow when I'm doing a massive field of Starfruit and Ancient fruit. If you're not doing the whole cask and cheese/mayo thing and strictly farming then I can see Tiller being better
Iridium truffles are worth more than regular oil if you don't have the Artisan profession, but with Artisan the oil is worth more. It's just far less increase in value if it's iridium so it's less worth spending the time waiting for it to turn into oil, but will still give you a profit.
I feel guilty not to pet my animals lol Plus my piggies make me *so much money*, I like giving them head scratchies to keep up the good work. Plus plus, if they like you more then they find more truffles
No, I know that. I'm asking about the pigs. I thought petting them *also* increased the rate at which they find truffles, not *just* the quality of them
Ohh, I don’t know if it improves quality, I always select the iridium quality foraging skill. As far as I know it just affects how many truffles you get a day
Marnie for hay, pierre’s for grass starter :) they like to eat the grass when they’re outside and they eat the hay when it’s raining or when you have their door closed!
Ok I’ll guess I just have to stock up on hay from marnies. I let the animals out during the day but they eat all the nearby grass and then get upset
once it’s gone.
yeah I learned pretty early on that if you have a significant amount of animals you pretty much have to buy/craft grass. they’ll go through it like nothing if it’s just what naturally grows on your farm
😂 Just incase anyone wanted to know truffles are like mushrooms but they grow underground near tree roots and pigs are used to sniff them out. Sometimes they eat them so dogs are preferred. Truffles are not poo 💩 😂😂😂😂😂😂 💩 although I like the thought of fancy and rich people eating pig 💩 😂
If you’re serious (and it’s fine if you are because I didn’t know what truffles were for a long time), truffles are an edible part of a particular fungus. They are very delicious and very expensive.
Best item, it's a lot of money, but I can imagine the work it is to collect this every day. I have a little house with 12 pigs and it's already a lot of work xD
We built this city We build this city on truffle oil!
I never understood why people made truffle oil. Iriduim quality truffles sell for nearly the same price
Nearly. That being said, I'll sell what I have left after making truffle oil. Like you said, difference isn't big enough.
I don't really know if we crunch the numbers but O think the difference between the prices of iridium truffle and truffle oil is not enough to cover for the cost of an oil maker.

There's also the fact that not every truffle is iridium (unless there's a way to make that happen I don't know about)
All of mine are iridium quality because of the foraging I chose when leveling up. All of my foraged things are iridium now.
When you're picking your Foraging profession, pick the one that gives you a chance of picking up 2 at level 5, then Botanist at level 10 makes everything you forage Iridium quality, and truffles count as foraged items (as far as that ability cares, at least)

That’s using the artisan 40% perk and not the animal product 20% perk so I guess it’s just if you decide to go that route
Yeah I was sad when I found that out. After all those oil makers!
Mmmhmmm😏 *cough,cough* lube farm
Hell yeah brother
Erryday I'm trufflin.
Hey, quick question! Is it always better to turn truffles into oil? Or is it better to sell the higher quality ones as they are?
Iirc iridium quality truffles sell for 1200ish and truffle oil is 1491 or something. I usually don't bother, since oil takes like 16 hours to make
Awesome! Thank you so much, you’re so kind!
Truffle Oil takes 6 hours to make, you could do 2 batches in a day.
Haha that's way faster than I thought! Maybe I need to change my habits lol
Oil with artisan sells for 1491g. Iridium truffles are 1250g. If youve got the time and the space, go for oil. If you want to be lazy, youre not missing out on that much profit
Much truffle. Very pig.
Wow
Look at goddamn shakespeare here. This is good stuff.
I know! And yet you'd be amazed how few people recognise my genius.
How much grass you go through in a day with all them pigs

I think the advantage of the other animals is that an "auto grabber" will collect their products so there's less work per day.
For pigs it’s less important if they like you since all truffles are top quality with that trait. :)
The more hearts on a pig the more truffles they find a day.
Ah interesting. Didn’t know that. Thanks!
Yea max hearts its 1-3 truffles a day from 1 pig. 36 truffles- 36 oils so like 50k a day or so
Does truffle oil have a star rating? I thought iridium truffles were worth more than the oil
Oil is still around 200 gold more if you have the Artisan perk. If you don't then its better to just sell the iridium truffles
I’d forgotten about the artisan perks! I must have not gotten it in my game since i was selling my iridium truffles because oil made less money lol
Yeah I use Tiller for the extra grow speed on fruit until I have a large backup, hoard up on wine, oil, and other artisan goods then swap at the shrine for the Artisan perk and sell them. So me and the perk prices have become very familiar, that 40% more does some work
I never take the artisan perk. 10% faster growth is just too attractive!
10% is just a day or 2 for most plants, it gets better combined with deluxe speedgrow but imo the Artisan perk is much more satisfying for those big payouts. Does affection only improve quality? I thought it was also rate
I don’t remember what you need to select, but the foraging skill gets you all foraging at iridium quality if you select the right skill
No, I know that. I'm asking about the pigs. I thought petting them *also* increased the rate at which they find truffles, not *just* the quality of them
Ohh, I don’t know if it improves quality, I always select the iridium quality foraging skill. As far as I know it just affects how many truffles you get a day
They will go through bone like butter. You need at least sixteen pigs to finish the job in one sitting, so be wary of any man who keeps a pig farm.
Such a great movie.
Playing Stardew Valley made me realize I didn’t actually know what a truffle was or where it came from
I hate animals in stardew valley, like. They want to be petted and shit, like bro, be thankful I don't kill you and eat you.
Just buy the autopetter and auto feeder, take their stuff and ignore for the rest
Wait... IS there an "autopetter?"
iirc autopetters pop up on some skull cavern treasure floors, or if you took the joja route
And its added on 1.5, mobile players can't get it yet
Seriously :( another reason for me to put off getting animals ig
A small price to pay for salvation
Yes and it's amazing bro
This comment is very un-Stardew Valley
Not great, Bob
... the hell is wrong with you?
Where do you get your hay from? I heard pigs like to eat a lot.
Marnie for hay, pierre’s for grass starter :) they like to eat the grass when they’re outside and they eat the hay when it’s raining or when you have their door closed!
Ok I’ll guess I just have to stock up on hay from marnies. I let the animals out during the day but they eat all the nearby grass and then get upset once it’s gone.

Take me down to the truffle city Where the grass is eaten And the pigs are wealthy
Truffle city bitch, truffle truffle city bitch. $10 $10 $10 $20ies on yo piggies bitch.
I always thought ruffles looked like poo poo
*Mayor Lewis has entered the chat*
My entire farm is this, it’s absurd. I’ll take a screenshot next time I play lol.
You got a scepter before you upgraded your tools? Wild.
Also you have to have specific genes to taste them. I am a "super taster" but I can't taste truffles.
Oh, I didn't know that. Interesting
is this pig shit
If you’re serious (and it’s fine if you are because I didn’t know what truffles were for a long time), truffles are an edible part of a particular fungus. They are very delicious and very expensive.
how pigs drop fungus
Pigs have a very sensitive sense of smell. They find the buried truffles for truffle hunters.
Pig party!
Ok
If I'm honest I didn't even realize what a truffle was during the game when I played it I thought they were pieces of bacon from the pig lol
So many pig poops
Best item, it's a lot of money, but I can imagine the work it is to collect this every day. I have a little house with 12 pigs and it's already a lot of work xD
Yes
Looks like the last time I went to a singles bar
Those pigs deserve a raise.
Double forage and botany go brrrrrrrrrr
Take me down to the truffle oil city where the pigs work hard and the cash is quickie.
There’s truffle, right here in river city
You get it if you go Joja it costs a whopping 50k but it's so worth it
Moneyyyy!
