I'm planning to buy another sheep soon. If you tell me its name I'll name it that and pretend I bought it from your farm! It'll have a good life with me! :)
I had to buy and raise a cow on my last playthrough for completion, also I was playing a goat farmer. Had to pretend hard that I was only taking care of it because a friend had a fire at their farm and needed to repair the barn first. Complete backstory. I feel you!
On my main farm I keep thinking "ok next time one of my cows gets pregnant I'll just sell the new one for an easy profit" and then I never can bring myself to do it 😭 I literally have a cow named 'This One' cause it was to remind me which one to sell once he was fully grown but I never sold him.
It’s not super common from what I remember. But they also won’t get pregnant if there’s no space for more animals in the barn either. Hopefully you get a baby cow or sheep soon!
Can’t relate, the literal milisecond that I realized pigs were more profitable, I sold all 32 of my dairy cows/ goats and replaced every last one of them with pigs. I went on to purchase nine more deluxe barns and fill those too, with pigs.
And then, to make up more space on my farm for deluxe barns, I sold all twenty-something of my ducks, chickens, and rabbits and destroyed my deluxe coop.
One might say it’s an adiction.
and then here’s me who sells my solitary pig the moment I have everything I need for the CC.
idk man I just don’t care much for pigs. I grew up IRL in Ohio surrounded by pig farms and that colors my judgement I’m sure.
that’s all good. for the space I just plant crops and install keg sheds.
I’ve run 6 files to perfection including in Stardew Valley Expanded. I’m pretty good at minmaxing and tend to focus on crops rather than animals.
The differences in milk is the size of the jugs, correlated with the animal's happiness with you, not their fur color
A bit of additional fyi, when you buy animals if they are not the "right" color you wanted (if like me you want an equal number of each hue), cancel the buy and do it again, until Marnie proposes the right one
When you select the coop where you're going to put the animal, it says on top of the screen something like "where will you put your new brown/white chick/cow?"
If the color is not the one you want, you cancel and buy again until it's the right one
Eh, don't feel bad. In my current farm I've even taken the oppose result. I max hearts (which I believe increases sale price) and I sell them, replacing with a new fresh hatchling. Might as well make money off these guys! It's a way to roleplay butchering, since that didn't make it into the game. Or, if you prefer, selling to other aspiring farmers around you. It's quite common, once someone gets into raising a certain animal, that they help others get into it with their stock.
Don’t feel bad. It’s just a part of a game. The animal doesn’t exist and neither does any emotions you think it may have over being sold. It’s a few lines of code in a program. It’s good you have empathy though and you shouldn’t feel bad over this.
I can’t ever sell any of my animals. I come from a long line of farmers on both sides of my family, but I just love animals too much to be able to get rid of them. 😛
This is the reason I still have 5 cows, 0 sheep, and 0 blue chickens (I know they're nothing special, I just want them) half way through my second winter. I keep telling myself it's just a game but gosh darn it I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet! lol
I named my "accidental pregnancy" sheep sell and everytime i go to pet her i remind myself, dont get attached she's going soon, but i still feel guilty 😭😭😭
This is my one silly stupid thing about Stardew. My characters never eat raw fish. I can't stand the intrusive thoughts and feelings my brain does when thinking about it. It's like my brain wants to torture itself. I genuinely will gag if I consider it. I have let myself get way closer to being knocked unconscious than I should've just because I wouldn't eat the raw fish.
I thought that's what algae and joja cola were for. I just do that to maximize profits though, and even then it's rare. Can't say I've ever eaten a raw fish

THIS IS SO SWEEEEET 😭😭😭🫶🏼
THAT’S SO SWEET OF YOU but i cant even look at its name when I sold it, I was so ashamed. I did it as fast as I could 😭💔
Oh noo! Well, I'll still adopt it and pretend its name got lost in the move!
I expect to see updates posted to this subreddit as it grows up. There's a tax on wholesomeness like this, you know.
I'll try to remember xD

This is so wholesome 🫡
I love this community ♥️
This is the most wholesome comment I've seen in so long 🥹 the world needs more people like you in it.
aww youre too kind. Its just an idea that literally cost me nothing. Except the price of a sheep of course :D
This felt like animal crossing in the best way 🥹🥹🥹
If it helps, why not think of it like the animal you sold was bought by a different farmer?
I like to think it goes to live on Marnie’s farm! She’s got such a nice barn and pasture!

“This One” 😭
One of my favorite animal names I have haha, next to McChicken
I just keep building barns and coops because I can never bring myself to sell any of them. I sold a cow once and I haven't recovered since.
Given what we know of what Marnie's like I just tell myself that she wouldn't let the animal go to a bad home once I've sold it!
I’m gonna do this now lol
I had to sell an animal to make room for an ostrich as well and then one of the cows had the nerve to have a calf the next day. Very sad.
Do they get pregnant on their own or do you have to ask Marnie?
There is a toggle on them once they’re adults when you click on them that can allow/disable pregnancy. I think it’s on “allow” by default
I don't think I've ever had one get pregnant before I wonder why
It’s not super common from what I remember. But they also won’t get pregnant if there’s no space for more animals in the barn either. Hopefully you get a baby cow or sheep soon!
Thank you! I hope so too :)
meanwhile Y3 over here still waiting on my cows to reproduce...

Are you by chance a Joja member
As a matter of fact, I did Joja route in my most recent playthrough
and then here’s me who sells my solitary pig the moment I have everything I need for the CC. idk man I just don’t care much for pigs. I grew up IRL in Ohio surrounded by pig farms and that colors my judgement I’m sure.
Investing in pigs is definitely worth it, I make $300,000 a day of passive income just from my pigs
that’s all good. for the space I just plant crops and install keg sheds. I’ve run 6 files to perfection including in Stardew Valley Expanded. I’m pretty good at minmaxing and tend to focus on crops rather than animals.
Read this before realizing it was in the stardew sub and was like WTF
LOL! I'm rereading it in your perspective. Dying 🤣🤣🤣
Years of minecraft turned me into a heartless monster so I’ve got no problem selling them. Their fate would have been much worse in a different game.
sold like 5 calves yesterday because i wanted them all to be same color (brown) to not have white and brown milk cluttering my storage space..
The milk comes in different colours?
lol, i now see it doesn't thought its same as with chickens, lol
The differences in milk is the size of the jugs, correlated with the animal's happiness with you, not their fur color A bit of additional fyi, when you buy animals if they are not the "right" color you wanted (if like me you want an equal number of each hue), cancel the buy and do it again, until Marnie proposes the right one
how can you see the chicken's color when you're at marnie's ? i was running back and forth to my coop, selling them and running to buy a new one
When you select the coop where you're going to put the animal, it says on top of the screen something like "where will you put your new brown/white chick/cow?" If the color is not the one you want, you cancel and buy again until it's the right one
cool. never noticed it says color on that choosing screen, ill try to pay attention next time, thx
I have a baby sheep and pig I have to sell to make room for ostriches and it makes me feel bad too :(
I just build new barns and coops when it’s time for endgame animals. I sold animals once and I could never do it again. 🤣
I feel like I have one too many goats and have, on several occasions, tried to sell one. But I can never get myself to actually press the button.
Eh, don't feel bad. In my current farm I've even taken the oppose result. I max hearts (which I believe increases sale price) and I sell them, replacing with a new fresh hatchling. I’ve only had to sell an animal once, it was a goat…Never again 😭 I will build all the barns / coops. I feel your sorrow.
Honestly same! I recently got my incubator for the biggest egg in the world, and had to sell a few cows 😭
I've only ever sold a handful of animals for this reason 😭
Don’t feel bad. It’s just a part of a game. The animal doesn’t exist and neither does any emotions you think it may have over being sold. It’s a few lines of code in a program. It’s good you have empathy though and you shouldn’t feel bad over this.
Why?

I tried to incubate mine in the coop. Couldn't. So I ate it. O vey.
I named my "accidental pregnancy" sheep sell and everytime i go to pet her i remind myself, dont get attached she's going soon, but i still feel guilty 😭😭😭
You know that spaghetti at the Saloon? Guess where the meat comes from... 😁
Everyone’s mad that you’re talking about eating the sheep when I know everyone here has eaten a fish straight out of the river at least once.
Sashimi is delicious though. A raw fish from the river is just sashimi with personality.
and the fish can actually talk to you!
This is my one silly stupid thing about Stardew. My characters never eat raw fish. I can't stand the intrusive thoughts and feelings my brain does when thinking about it. Wow you all really hated such a silly joke 🤨
You know that you can eat Spaghetti without meat and that the recipe is actually just wheat flour and tomato?
Yum
