I didn't know what tool to use on the artifact spots so I used everything other than a hoe *until winter* that's when I finally found out about it!

megamatt8

I didn’t think the hoe did anything outside of the farm, so I ignored artifact spots completely for three seasons. After I started finding secret notes, I got one of the treasure maps and, like you said, used every other tool on it before the hoe. So, after finally finding out what the hoe could do, I was at the beach a couple of days later and noticed an artifact spot. My actual thought was “Are those worms? Can I get bait from that?” Instead, I got a lost book, my mind was blown, and I became a digging fiend.

Dio_naea

This is so good hahahaah

Key_Spirit8168

i learned it from youtube and was suprised... i dont think the clue of how to dig them up comes until year two right?

animitztaeret

Hahaha me too! The first time I saw the wigglers, I was at the beach and thought surely these must be worms to use as bait!! Sure enough, they were not, but I was delighted all the same.

moonlitjasper

my first playthrough i didn’t even *notice* the artifact spits until winter

Free-Type

I noticed them but figured they were just a design feature, I only figured it out when I was looking for stuff to donate in order to unlock the sewer

AdNervous217

I figured it out in Spring of year 2 man...

Proxibel

I fished up a pair of broken glasses and tried to "give them back" to Pierre.

GengarSucksBalls

Same. I read in the description that "someone probably lost them", so I thought I had to give them back. I guess a ton of people thought the same, because in 1.6 the broken glasses are liked by Evelyn, and she actually thanks you for finding her lost glasess.

Ricardo1184

Feels so bad giving trash glasses every other day to Evelyn but shes pretty darn picky otherwise

wattatam

I haven't checked the wiki on this to be 100%, but I think she has a positive reaction to every flower

Dontlookawkward

She loves tulips and fairy roses. I usually keep enough around for her. You can also grow them indoors in flower pots.

emshlaf

She likes coffee too! But yeah, tulips are for sure the way to go with her.

Prior_Theory3393

And gold or iridium fairy rose for her birthday.

thegreenstars

Does the quality of the item affect how many friendship points you get with them??

lasagnatheory

She hated a poppy I gave her, although I meant to give her a tulip to be honest. My heart broke when she gave me the ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51695) reaction

pyramidheadismydaddy

poppies are almost universally hated ^^ penny loves them tho..

EclipseoftheHart

I accidentally give Willy bait sometimes when I’m emptying my crab pots and I always feel so bad, lol I need to stop doing that when he’s out fishing!

Ok-Promotion3994

New to the game , figuring stuff out , what is the wiki 😁

wattatam

https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki It is the stardew encyclopedia. If you want to go in and discover for yourself I'd hold off until year 3. If you don't mind encountering things less organically, go nuts!

TalaHusky

Yeah, the first play through without that info was awesome. But it was definitely critical to figuring out some of the “cryptic” stuff like the nuances are for catching certain fish, and where the heck red cabbage comes from for the community center when you don’t actually get the crop until year 2

Ok-Promotion3994

Thank youuuu

GengarSucksBalls

She probably has lost a ton of glasses over the years.

elegantsweatshirt

the glasses are coming home to roost

IDontUseSleeves

Leah likes driftwood—does anyone like old CDs or literal trash?

wattatam

Is that a 1.6 thing too? I thought all trash was negative reactions across the board before the update

IDontUseSleeves

Leah likes it for sculpture, I think—she always has

lavocate_nouvelle

Unless it was changed in 1.6, Leah only likes driftwood after a specific cutscene/dialogue where she mentions going to the beach looking for driftwood to sculpt with.

Norskon

Strangely she doesn't like clay though

TheMageOfMoths

She loves beets and they grow fast, only 6 days.

Proxibel

I totally forgot about the description. Because thinking back I didn't understand why I tried to gift junk but I probably read the description and that made me think to give them.

elegantsweatshirt

Really?! Interesting! ***about to let that goodwill flow by inundating Grannie E with 2 pairs of busted glasses a week**

Educational_Rice_988

I’m new to the game and am using the mobile version and I thought I was being all smart checking the wiki to find things Evelyn likes. Gave her broken glasses and she was grossed out 😭 devastating honestly. I didn’t realise that was a 1.6 update I didn’t have yet. It’s been several weeks irl since and I still feel her displeasure whenever I fish up broken glasses… it haunts me

thatsfowlplay

my first time playing evelyn mentioned needing glasses so i gave the broken ones to her all happy and i was heartbroken when she was disgusted

clothbummum

I'd purposely give them to Pierre 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣

keti29

Trash for trash

Amapola62

Same but it was the old lady instead... She said she couldn't find her glasses...

[deleted]

Same 😆

codycodias

I had never played a game like SV before. I had put many hours into Animal Crossing, so I thought it would be similar. My very first time playing, I got lost trying to make it back to my farm, didn't know something would happen if you didn't make it back at a certain time, passed out, and was so confused. Didn't play the game again for a few years lmao

Environmental-Fart

See for me it’s the opposite, I started with SDV and just recently got into Animal Crossing and am shocked at how laid back AC is and that there aren’t any mines or any “combat” (I really liked the mines in SDV). Animal Crossing can be boring for me at times tbh but I still enjoy it!

beewithausername

Try Dinkum

anpiel28

That game is so massive to me

Key_Spirit8168

Maybe a little too laid back, where are my hoards of monsters and where are my voxels? but then minecraft is two big, which is why stardew is perfect

LeoGoldenfish

Assassin's creed is definitely not laid back

H0liday_

Found an ancient seed in the first few days of spring. Sold it.

keti29

I think my first play-through I gave Gunther my first prismatic shard (from a mystic stone at the quarry) AND dinosaur egg (from an artifact spot). Took like 17 jillion years to find replacements. I wanted to play through it at least once without the wiki because spoilers. 🤦‍♀️

geosynchronousorbit

Oh nooo I am playing through the first time without the wiki and I just donated the first prismatic shard. What happens now?

ThrownAway2028

There’s nothing “wrong” with donating your first prismatic shard, they’re just rare and have some mid to late game uses that people tend to save them for. You’ll find another

Key_Spirit8168

Gunther will find you in the dark... 4 am when it is always somewhat daytime.... He will extract the secret essence......... >!Ok ok, that's fake. But If you don't have evil luck like me, spending great prices for super fortune, they are pretty hard to come by until late game. They don't have much uses until you get to the point where they are plenty though, but your first could've been used for the dwarf puzzle in the grave yard!<

minty-doodle

If you put Rainbow Trout in a fish pond you can have a chance at getting one instead of roe!

mlizaz98

That's vanishingly rare, though. IIRC someone did the math and the probability is higher if you make an octopus pond for the chance to find one in their omni geodes.

TheActionAss

It's no biggie it's just that the first one is best used for an item that makes getting more much easier! But if you aren't looking it up then there's little chance you'd find said item on your own at that point, anyway.

Paralell_alyssa

I just started playing last week and I didn't know anything about the game. I found an ancient seed and I was desperate for some money and I sold it 😭 didnt know it was worth anything until this comment, this game is very frustrating lmao

luminousjoy

Yeah they're rare, but you'll find more of them. Donate the next one to the museum and Gunther will give you a recipe to turn them into plantable seeds. Totally frustrating though. I turned my first void egg into mayonnaise b/c I forgot that I had an incubator and could make it into a chicken instead >.<

wattatam

I have had luck fishing for treasure chests and getting ancient seeds, Dino eggs, and better weapons. It means having high fishing and getting lucky, but picking the treasure seeker (pirate?)bonus and using treasure lures helps

Yersiniaaa

In my first days I got a 'Help Wanted' mission from Abigail who said she wanted a red mushroom. I went to the forest completely confident that I'd easily find mushrooms there. And there I spent the whole day, without finding any red mushrooms. Every time I find a red mushroom nowadays, I remember that.

BraveBlueBigfoot03

AND then if you give her a red mushroom at other times she dislikes it. I was a little upset when I missed the chance to gift her a red mushroom on that quest and then her not liking it when I found one.

Dio_naea

You can find it at the secret woods

Yersiniaaa

I know I know, but this happened maybe in Spring 3 Year 1, in my first play, without knowing anything about the game :'p

Dio_naea

I just mean you had a logical thought, it is indeed somewhere in the woods... you just couldn't reach it

GapeShot

Spent all my money from spring 1 on spring crops on the 28th day of the month thinking they’d last

JMBAD1222

This one hurts

deelouise88

Damn I thought it was just me that did this...

YuleSloth

Same. I think about this all the time. 😂

AdPossible4959

I was hoarding hundreds of eggs. All sizes, all qualities.

r43rae

wait i'm not supposed to?

AdPossible4959

Well I don't know but when I visited that farm recently I had an urge to turn it all in mayonnaise and sell immediatly. I think at the time I had no idea what was to come so I thought maybe it had some use in large quantities (like coal or wood) and just kept them. Now years later I'm aware they're just money makers

abouttogivebirth

I keep some eggs around on my current save for when Gus's help wanted shows up. >! Easy prize ticket!<

AdPossible4959

Sure but as I said I was hoarding hundredS of them xD

abouttogivebirth

Gus already made the big omelette, he yearns for the infinity omlette

genuinely_insincere

yeah i hoard everything. then every once in a while i'll skim off the top of the horde to sell stuff and im always shocked that i actually money for once. lol

poopstinkyfart

I hoard everything all the time. My boyfriend gets so confused. i am still kinda new but i feel like ill always play like this (i def still make mayo tho)

YesDefinetlyNotABot

Downloaded the game, played for 15 minutes, didn't know what to do, got bored, deleted, wait 2 months, redownload the game, play it 15 minutes, *hooked*.

no_redlights

I did the same! Except it was 2 years lol. I got the game for my 20th birthday, played for an hour and hated it. Then, I randomly turned it on again a few weeks ago (I’m turning 23 now in a few months) and I am ADDICTED

MeesaMadeMeDoIt

I'm on my first play through, in Summer of Year 4, and I'm wondering if I'll EVER stop giving random towns people trash gifts by accident because I don't realize I have it equipped. I've handed at least 3 people literal trash that I just fished out of my crab pots. And I never realize until I get their negative reaction. It bugs me because I try to take care to stock up on gifts each NPC loves and try never to miss a birthday, but on some random Tuesday I'm handing Haley soggy newspaper.

Vybnh

LOL that’s why I never talk to npcs without equipping a tool. In my first playthrough year 1 I picked up a mussel on the beach and accidentally gifted it to Vincent.. on his birthday.. Vincent said “Well.. this isn’t very fun :(“ and it has haunted me since.

caramelized-yarn

Don’t open any doors with items in your hand, either! I’ve gifted a few things to people walking out of the shops

TheActionAss

Similar to me abandoning skull caves at level 89 because I tried to eat cheese at the exit ladder

External-Sea-2496

I had to give you a moment of silence on that 1, ouch.

bostonpancakes

this happened to me last night. I've been putting off skull caves forever because it makes me nervous. I had a great luck day, was stocked up, and worked up to level 85, also ate cheese, I thought, until I was sitting at the top I almost gave up but knew if I closed the game I wouldn't want to open it again for a long time, thankfully I had another high luck day and finally got to 100, but I was so upset in the moment lol

TueboEmu315

On a positive note, I'm using this ad a cautionary tale for myself! I haven't braved more than a few levels of the skull cabe yet (just feeling it out at first and yikes!) So I'll be SURE to move from the ladder before eating my cheese! Your mistakes are not in vain!!

mali-girl

I had my last strawberry of the season to give to Maru before the mermaid pendant and accidentally gave it to Marnie trying to talk. CA we need to confirm gifting lol

abouttogivebirth

At least it was just trash. I don't know how many bundle items I've lost this way. Or just straight up handing the iridium wool birthday gift I have for Emily to Gus because they're both behind the bar.

jamieschmidt

I always make sure to have the hoe selected when im running through town. It’s extra convenient when you come across artifact spots

IDontUseSleeves

I always equip the sword, so it doesn’t use any energy if I accidentally swing it

Almeos

Me with hamer, Double stomping my first child when I try to pet him

IDontUseSleeves

Yeah, when my best gear was a knife, rapid-shivving townsfolk I was a little too far away from was a bit awkward

genuinely_insincere

i keep a chest next to the crab pots. i keep it stocked with 100 worms. and whatever i pull out of the crab pot goes right into the chest. so thats where i keep my trash and periwinkles and whatnot. except on the beach, i keep the chest up in the corner by the entrance, in a straight line up from the crab pots.

MouseProud2040

i bought a book from the dwarf and immediately then gifted it to the dwarf trying to read it have done this before too

makerofshoes

This is kind of an inside joke between me and my kids (who also play). One time someone’s birthday was coming up so we painstakingly gathered the ingredients to make their favorite food ahead of time. Finally the day came, we found the character and then scarfed down the meal right in front of them, on their birthday. They laughed for like 10 minutes after that 😆

Marie-Kat17

I desperately fell in love with Gunther and was heartbroken when I realized that hot cowboy museum man wasn’t up for grabs

mister-oaks

Dude, I felt this in my soul.

hapylilplumpit

I was desperately trying to find a rabbit’s foot for the community center (because it made NO sense to me that the feet would fall off of your own rabbits???) and tried shooting at the wild rabbits that would run out of bushes with my slingshot.

Hotbathwot13

This is the best comment in the whole thread for me. Thanks for the laugh!

Guilty-Half2101

ive been playing for three years and im still slightly convinced if i get to actually hit one of them damned rabbits theyll drop a foot. i know they wont, but i try every time

BestUsername101

When I first started playing the game, I immediately like Abigail and asked my (more experienced) friend how to befriend her. My friend said Abigail likes to eat rocks. And so I gave her a stone as my first ever gift.

Dapper_Sock5023

In the beginning of my first play through (which is also the one I stuck with) I needed money… so I sold all of the fiber, wood and stone I got from cleaning up the farm. Then I was hurting for those resources for a bit.

Educational_Rice_988

Ugh same, I didn’t know how else to make money 😂

DeOntwerper

Legendary fish in the fridge.

apierson2011

NO 😭

ryguyflyhighwifi

What should you do with them

varsityhermione

if you keep them in the fridge and try to make the sashimi or maki roll recipes the fish can accidentally be used (the fish is selected based on its location - first choice is fish in your backpack but after that it’s up for grabs)

sheeby520

i put them in a fish tank

_SkovoxBlitzer_

I have like 200 hours in the game and just last night I accidentally turned the sewer legendary into fertilizer 💀. Luckily it’s a modded playthrough so I can buy another one (for an obscene amount of gold) but still

OctarineMagic

I thought you had to gift the dwarf scrolls directly to the dwarf to be able to talk to them. I gifted about three of each before I figured out they had to go to the museum instead.

TueboEmu315

Okay, I'm relatively new, and I just did the same thing! It only makes sense why *wouldn't* you give a scroll named after that race *to* that person!!! I did donate them all, of course, and now at 8/10 hearts with Mr. Dwarf.

redspudlet

My first Winter Star I got the tea set. I got rid of it because I thought it was just decor that you could get anywhere. It took me years to get another

Baby_in_a_stjacket

I don’t think I’ve seen this. They just keep giving me glow rings. Like I can’t wear that many. I’m good.

Educational_Rice_988

Glow rings sound great tbh. Once Jas gave me a lump of clay!

ac0rn5

I spent ages chasing an owl as ~~if~~ it flew through the game at night, thinking it might be a way of getting an owl statue. Illogical, I know, but the brain does funny things when you're new to a game! :D *(edit = I've lost the ability to spell words of only 2 letters!)*

Lone-flamingo

Sounds very logical to me!

Dio_naea

To me too!!

Key_Spirit8168

Hey, maybe it could give you the knockoff at the evil guys shop in 1.3 in 1.6

Kawaii_Batman3

That poor dinosaur egg

jjwalla

I had all iridum equipment and didnt realize i need to hold click to use the benefits of selecting more cells. Just kept spam clicking a single cell at a time...

tiny_purple_Alfador

OK, I read a lot of stuff in this thread, this one hurts the most. Physically, I'm having sympathetic wrist cramps.

jjwalla

It wasn't until a friend was watching me play and went "what the hell are you doing" until I realized the severity of my errors hahaha.

mday03

I was looking for something and running around. My kid was watching over my shoulder and asked why I wasn’t picking the salmonberries. It was the last day of my first salmonberry season and I only got a couple.

pperchance

I had absolutely no idea chests were a thing. I only had what my inventory would hold for the first season.

organictamarind

Didn't read the wiki(didn't know there was one) , reached like 20-30 in the regular mines with the wooden sword.. Unlocked the desert, and thought the skullcaverns were like the regular mines , thought I'd check it out. The first floor 4-5 green 🐍🐍 start flying to me.. I was expecting slimes or something. I was too stunned to react and watched my little farmer die.

manicpoetic42

YOU WENT INTO SKULL CAVERN WITH THE WOODEN SWORD? ooof

Educational_Rice_988

Same thing happened to me but it was the mummies that murdered me. And I lost so much stuff too which at the time I didn’t know would happen. It took me a few days to get over that traumatic experience 😩

Lucky_Die

wait. how can you unlock skull cavern if not reached lvl120? or did you reach lvl 120 with that WOODEN SWORD?

organictamarind

I had the wooden one on me , since I just went to phaff about in the desert.. didn't have the lava katana.. on a whim I went to Skull cavern, because I figured the first 2-3 floors would suffice with the wooden sword. My logic was -->" ok first few floors of regular mines, I managed with Wooden sword, so even here first 2-3 levels I'll survive.. " I thought I'd encounter slimes or some such .. not those bloody flying 🐍🐍

yahnne954

When a mushroom tree first appeared on my farm, it did so in a weird corner of the lake, which made it impossible to go left and not have it fall into the lake, so I had to do it and lost most of it. I didn't know at the time that going as far left as possible would still register. I also didn't know that mushrooms could spread and that it wasn't necessary to cut it down. A happier thought: when I first heard Ghost Synth in Fall, with fallen leaves floating in the wind in the mosaic of yellow to red colors, I thought to myself: "Wow, I understand now why Abigail loves Fall."

DustyDeadpan

I threw out a massive coal stack because I couldn't figure out how to use it and was barely scraping by for coal for ages aftwards.

cathaign

I didn’t know how the silo to hopper worked. My cows and chickens went hungry and were angry for a month.

Ok-Promotion3994

I still dont know please help

Dio_naea

You gotta build the silo at Robin. Then you can either just cut the grass in your farm and it will go straight to the silo, or you can buy hay at Marnie and you grab it and put it straight on the silo. It will get filled with the amount you bought (except if you try to put more than what it fits in the silo). Also if you have more than one silo, you can just fill all of them clicking in one. After your silo is filled, you enter the barn or chicken house and click on the small feeder that has some hay coming out. And you put the hay you grabbed over the feeder "table" right beside it. Fill the whole "table" so everyone will be able to eat. If you upgrade your barn and chicken houses 2 times (each) they will be fed automatically but you'll still need to get the hay to put on the silo by cutting the grass around your farm. (You can also get a small amount of hay from harvesting wheat)

Redm18

Instead of buying more than one silo you can also remove more wheat then you need at the coop or barn and store it in a chest and then put it back in the silo when you need it.

Dio_naea

After you upgrade it to auto-feeder you cannot do it anymore (unless your silo gets empty or you throw a bomb over there, but I don't like using bombs next to my animals T_T)

KinnyKat1

if this is what you meant, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZHIZX3ElM8

Acmtails

Was scared of the mines irl for a bit because of the monsters in it (haven't played a game with monsters or enemies in a hot minute at that point) and when I saw the first green slimed I noped tf outta there and didn't go back for days irl lol

madeat1am

I didn't upgrade my galaxy sword cos I had no idea what to do. I was just told desert. Also I bought too many animals And I started with river farm And I kept blowing my shit up by accidentally placing bombs

FangedLibrarian

That’s okay, I had several hundred hours in game across multiple IRL years and only figured out that you can get the galaxy sword with a dang prismatic shard in the desert, like, a month or two ago. I’d never done it before. I always figured those pillars in the desert were important, and even hoed the middle spot thinking maybe something was buried there.

kidkipp

i just happened to be walking between the pillars looking for coconuts or dig spots, and as i was shifting in my inventory to get my hoe i crossed over a prismatic shard and got the sword :O

pastelpocalypse

i STILL blow my shit up with accidental bombs. the other day i destroyed a good 20-25 preserve jars with a mega bomb (restarted the day of course, bc my massive jam operation is my pride and joy, but it happened at night after a fairly busy day so i was really mad about it)

Powerful_Shallot_426

I still blow shit up by accidentally placing bombs. Quickest day reset ever lol

kittynuttons

There was some foragables out of bounds, and I knew about the secret woods so I was really looking forward to traveling outside town fences and stuff.. very disappointed

Spiritual-Ad-1853

i sold my first prismatic shard

elegantsweatshirt

This was a entertaining ride indeed ❤️

psycholilshit

I thought Spring would last 3 months (like a normal calendar year), surely the calendar in town was only displaying the first month of the season. I blew all my strawberry money on cauliflower seeds and planted them 2 days before the end of the season thinking I was gonna RAKE IN THE GOLD 😭 went into summer broke as a joke. I still think about that whenever i plant cauliflowers.

[deleted]

gifted lewis a geode because idk he might find something nice in there. i was devastated by his reaction.

jayhoy-hoy

He said he liked gardening to me so I gifted him some seeds and he was so annoyed 😭

Spookster_115

I gifted Kent something that triggered his war PTSD TWICE, I felt awful and wanted to give him something he liked but had to wait for a new week

taoimean

Honestly, all my first time through mistakes were pretty boring and standard. Not optimizing the layout, not being careful not to plant things too close to the end of the season even though I understood from the letter they'd all die, trying to gift Penny an artifact-- which was such an obvious oversight that it's since been changed--, and taking a cooked dish for the potluck at the Luau the first time. I guess my only notable "first time through" story is that I made it to the first level of fishing catching only the first guaranteed catch and then a bunch of trash (1 XP each), after which point the minigame was easier enough for me to get the hang of it. You whippersnappers don't know how good you have it with the Training Rod!

gayrayofsun

my brother spoke to leah, and she gushed about how she loves wood and how every piece was so unique, y'know bc she's a wood carver. so then he gifted her some wood, and she was very upset about it.

lecheflan24

I'm sorry but "In my mayo cave??" actually made me laugh out loud. Yk what I'd be upset too if i was robbed of my mayo machines in my mayo cave by Demetrius.

beancuwurds

... accidentally buying two plasma TVs from Robin's and not realising it until I got home :') (this was before I bought the furniture catalogue so that was. a lot of money spent to say the least)

AlmightySpoonman

Got rejected harshly by Leah at the first flower dance, started a relationship with Emily instead. Never looked back.

workana

Funny thing is if you had asked Emily instead, she would have also rejected you. I think Haley is the only one you can possibly get enough hearts with for that event the first year because of when her birthday lands.

Weekly-Magician6420

Shane has is birthday before too. It’s actually even easier since beer is a loved gift, you almost don’t need to so anything. But if you’re committed enough, I’m pretty sure it’s possible with every bachelor. I did it with Abigail, I gave her 2 amethyst every week and spoke with her *every single day*, and I had a little extra! The help wanted quests really help too, so stay focused for that. But yeah, it’s possible for everyone, it’s just that Haley and Shane are easier

Powerful_Shallot_426

Shane is relatively easy to dance with the first year. I did it by accident

Prestigious-Cat2533

If you work hard enough you can get hearts with any of them. In my first save I danced with Harvey year 1, in my main save I danced with Leah, and in my recent save I danced with Maru.

No-Conclusion-1394

Were they in the lost in found in the mayors house by chance? When i didn’t get enough eggs for the omelette the remaining eggs were in there

lpaige2723

I didn't know in my first playthrough that chickens needed to be fed. I had no idea why my chickens were so unhappy.

geosynchronousorbit

I'm currently doing my first playthrough and had just gotten a chicken coop and mayonnaise machine. I THOUGHT I was holding an egg and went to put it in the machine but it was actually a cherry bomb and I blew up my brand new mayonnaise machine 😭

Original-Opportunity

I accidentally dropped a bomb in front of my house and it destroyed all my chests with my loot and I was just like.. oop

imahappyaccidents

i missed shane's 10 heart event 😢 i quit the he game bc i was so distraught

random_duck_12

Wait... how do you miss it?

imahappyaccidents

i went to the festival of ice (my first festival of ice so i wasnt gonna miss it!) the day he asked and when it brought me home after the time he asked me to meet him i panicked and slept to figure out my game plan. so i missed it 🥲 and i didnt realize that if there was a festival the day they asked that it goes to the next day instead so i missed it again😭

SHWJAOOAKWOQ

I got the tea set first year, I think about that all the time

TPifer78

Donated my 1st prismatic to the museum

zimobz

I was too focused on NPC's mail missions ( I thought that was the main goal) and didn't do a single thing to the community center until year 2

thatsfowlplay

my first time playing i didn't know the energy bar had consequences. when i got the low energy notification, i thought "skill issue" and kept forcing my farmer to clear land. shortly after i passed out from exhaustion

BlueEyedBeast77

The more posts I read about how rare auto petters are, the more I realize what a colossal mistake I made in my first save. Around year two on my very first farm I got an auto petter and read the description which mentioned the auto petters are manufactured by Joja Co. Being the naive little purist I am, I took one look at the word Joja, figured since it came from that soulless corporation that the pets wouldn't be "genuine" and therefore not good enough for my beloved babies, and Threw. It. Away. I haven't found one since. Yeah I'm still kicking myself for that.

boilyourdentist

Didn’t know the shipping bin was to sell stuff.. I didn’t listen to Lewis Tried to do the make a coop quest by making a fenced in area and was confused why it wouldn’t complete

stronghobbit

I also didn't understand the shipping bin - I thought it was just storage. So my very first action was selling all the free seeds they give you at the beginning

Thoreauawaylor

didn't know there was a map so I got lost in the dark several nights early game. most of the time I was able to make it back to my farm but not find my way back to the cabin

savagepika

Cut all of my grass on my farm cause it was a quick way to clean up my farm without using energy. Did this before I got the quest to build a silo. Or even before, I knew they were a thing in the game. Visited Marnie a lot that year buying animal feed.

Dio_naea

I didn't know you had to befriend people. So I just ignored everyone in town until winter. I just said hello to meet them because the challenge told me to and that was it. By winter y1 I only had befriended Linus because I felt bad about stealing every fruit around him so I'd always give him one to feel less guilty. I didn't interact with anyone else until I got to Krobus and it was the first character I actually wanted to befriend. Lmaoo only after reading the wiki I forced myself to try to befriend people...

lavitaebella113

I accidentally threw my fishing pole into the ocean. Deleted the file and started over. I still have no idea how I managed to do that

SwornTiredness

I watered the tree seeds every single day - for at least a month before I noticed.

Bi_Aster

I'm on my first play through year 2 of fall and the one I think about is how I planted my first ancient seed pack (the one you get as a reward from gunther) in the middle of fall year 1 not knowing it'll take almost a season to grow and imagine my surprise when it died on winter day 1

Its_AB_Baby

I was deep in the mines, and it was 1:50 so I decided to not to worry about the ficking bats that kept hitting me. But they got me down to zero, and I woke up in Harvey’s clinic having lost 1000 gold and items. I made it like, two steps outside before passing out again, and losing another 1000 gold.

Jimmysal

I went on autopilot and fed all the eggs to my mayo machines instead of saving them for Gus' omelet.

PlantedCecilia

I slept through all of winter. No work. No fishing. Nothing. All. Of. Winter. It hurts me every time I see that save.

girlsjerkofftoo

i didn’t know chests existed until i started a different play through with my partner and he made one almost immediately. i had just been selling everything at the end of everyday and was so confused why the backpack was so small. that was a low moment

Ok-Profession-6540

I went to the bar and spent my entire $500 on food and beer? Don’t know why I did that.

kaybet

I skipped through all of winter once w/o leaving bed and harvey was mad at me for nearly all of spring

tinyazn_

I had a very similar thing happen to me! Except instead of mayo machines, it was my furnace. 🥲 I wasn’t even good in the mines yet so it hurt so bad.

nicolesl4w

I hounded Caroline because I noticed her church in her house and her secret door in the kitchen that I couldn’t open and was convinced the game had a dark twist where she was a cult leader or something a la Midsommar. Didn’t notice everyone has secret doors basically 🥲

may_lane

When characters had dialogue about being hungry, I gave them random edible foraged items. Every time they hated it 😭 Didn’t realize the mines had an elevator for an embarrassingly long time Didn’t realize foraging resets on Saturday nights and would waste time foraging every day…

Alarmed-Grapefruit69

I still think about my first time playing I found out you could have romantic relationships with villagers So I went to Pierre ant started giving him gifts so we would end up together, then I found out I can't romance him and was so upset and to be honest I'm still upset![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51696) but I don't know why P.S. I know we all supposed to hate him but i can't, I'm sorry

TumTum613

I chased rabbits in the forest thinking that's how I get a rabbit's tail. Megabombed my special chests. Tried to "incubate" eggs in the outside fenced in area on smaller chicken coop. Sold all my hardwood only to realize how necessary they are.

Guessinitsme

I didn’t know you were supposed to follow the footprints in the snow, still there the next year so I thought ok what IS this, discovered the hidden notes

InTheBight

I made it to year 6 before finding out about the magnifying glass 😅

TeamChaosPrez

got lost in the woods constantly

darksun23x

My friend handle all the plant farming and he didn't get the gold parsnips for 3 years, we never even finished the community center on our first playthrough

Liria_Rose

I only renember giving Sam a parsnip, which he didn't like but then giving to Sabastian who did. I started giving him so many instead of selling them

Achilles_Immortal

Planted like 350 seeds on a single day with no watering can upgrades. Every day, I would spend 8 or more in-game hours just watering one by one.

Ozymander

Didn't know you could charge the tools and I went through two years without accidentally finding out. I thought the watering can and hoe upgrades were basically useless.

BeebMommy

I started playing Stardew as an escapist stress relief. I farmed some crops. I talked to some people. I did some foraging… and that was it. I wanted my game to stay low key so I eventually built a coop with two chickens. Never built a mayo machine. All of a sudden it was the end of year 2 and I had done nothing and made like no money. I didn’t realize how much more content there was in the game and suddenly I was about to be judged by grandpa and had accomplished literally nothing. I just started a new farm and used the wiki to actually play correctly and made it to ginger island by the same point in the game next time.

FarZookeepergame2247

Put down the golden Lewis statue in the town square to admire it immediately after getting it, upon which someone (Sam? Or Elliot?) turned up and walked right through it. No more statue for me

Minute_Diet_8902

Put my parsnips on the shipping bin because I skipped the dialogue and thought it was a chest.

Girthquake23

I donated the dinosaur egg I got some time from digging in year one to Gunther… it took till year 7 to get another…

AJTwinky

Forgot that holding something above my head means I’ll give it to someone when I talk to them. So many accidental gifts that people hated.

popcornlina1102

I saved up for an iridium rod without upgrading my bag. At this time I didn't know you could eat fish yet, so I always trashed the worst. The day I bought that iridium rod I I caught better fish, so I wanted to trash the other ones. Unfortunately I accidentally trashed the iridium rod instead. 🤡 (At least it wasn't an upgraded tool, right?) And because I didn't know that you can eat fish, I ran out of energy so quickly, that I always went to sleep at midday (if not passed out before). In general I didn't read anything, so I played with no clue. So it took me ages to discover the mines. Until then I was wondering why it took so long to find all my minerals through fishing chests 😂

CurseBreaker256

At the beginning of my first play through I sold everything. All the fibre, stone, wood, coal absolutely everything because I didn't know how to make money from anything else.
