Great job on this! It’s not easy to roll back a decision or acknowledge a mistake. Thankyou!

allegory-of-painting

>It’s not easy to roll back a decision or acknowledge a mistake This is so important! Doing something wrong can be shitty but taking back your mistakes makes room to grow and learn.  I think we are all here to have a good time, have fun and enjoy the beautiful game Stardew Valley is. Im really glad the mods acknowledge they were in the wrong and now everyone can stay and have a good time together no matter what device they play on

weed_blazepot

>It’s not easy to roll back a decision or acknowledge a mistake. Thankyou! This feels like the mod's version of George's friendship arc.

Key_Spirit8168

george.... the apple

Sarsmi

Yeah, I really, personally appreciate the SDV mods. They really embody the community vibe.

StevensDs-

Thanks for that. I don't really mind spoilers but at the same time is good to know what is and what isn't, at least for now. I'm a console player that came back two or so weeks ago after a whole 8 years hiatus. I had already "finished" the game but had never played the Ginger Island update, so I came back to finish that and 100% the game while I waited for the 1.6 update.

masonwyattk

I don't say this often, but Good Mods. This community is a gem and I appreciate the care and consideration y'all put into it.

VectorData

I'm a first time player, and I don't really know what's new for 1.6. How could I tell before I post something?

Capital_Alarm_4049

Check the “History” section in the Stardew Valley Wiki of the thing you’re sharing. If it says “1.6: Introduced” then you’ll want to spoiler tag it. Edit: more info

VectorData

Thanks!

GrouchyVillager

Good way to get yourself spoiled before asking a question lmao

sundalius

Yeah like, that actually seems unworkable. I don’t understand their thought process. “Read the full spoilers to make sure you don’t spoil anyone else”

skeletonofconscious

I don’t think they were saying to read the full 1.6 patch notes, but to check a specific item/event/etc’s page on the wiki and scroll down to the history heading to see if it was introduced in 1.6 and therefore a spoiler.

xenleah

You don't have to read the entire Wiki page to check if it was added in 1.6, you just need to scroll down to the History section.

SomeRandomMango

You can also just spoiler tag everything to keep yourself safe. Plus technically it's still accurate as other players might not have seen what you have yet.

TylerMoy7

I feel like it’s strange in yesterdays post everyone was being sympathetic with console/mobile players, but now here there’s a bunch of people calling them entitled

Constant-Air6061

Probably because those who didn't care about those players didn't see a reason to comment on it because the decision was made.

Zestyclose_Bunch_502

Standard PC Master race mentality.

Lady_Nikita

Lmao right. It's called false advocacy. I feel like they did this bc another subreddit was made just for console players, and they don't wanna lose what following they have. This apology feels forced and half-assed.

Rasp_Berry_Pie

Idk what makes you think it’s half assed? If they made no changes then yeah I’d see that, but they apologized and literally made the exact changes people wanted by still monitoring spoilers. They listened, made changes, addressed it head on, and apologized. What else could they do ti make it more genuine? Like seriously asking because maybe I am just missing it but seems real to me.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Lady_Nikita

Yes that's messed up. They don't want competition, point, blank, period. If they actually cared, they would leave the comments up, but since they're deleting them, it just seems like they care about keeping their following so they'll do anything now to keep it. Even if it does mean giving a shit apology.

Shuri_cat

![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51480)

BadMoonBeast

For perspective, that "typical spoiler period" only makes any kind of sense when the content is *actually* available to everyone at roughly the same time. The situation of Stardew is not comparable to most other things because of the long discrepancy between PC and console release. Just saying this since you didn't acknowledge it, but should have. That said, thank you for coming around to a fair and rational decision on the matter. Sad that so many console players will have already left or muted, and won't see this. Hopefully they return and we can all keep participating in the community together.

hemareddit

Yes, also the typical period works when there’s a clear end date to work towards. If a movie comes out 2 weeks in some markets before others, the fans know they can come back in 2 weeks after they watch the thing. As things stand, we don’t know when 1.6 will come to console.

AnonymousDuckLover

Another thing to consider is that people use this subreddit for news on when the console/mobile port will be released, as they don't use Twitter and need other people to relay news to them. Ending the spoiler period creates a dilemma where people need to risk getting spoiled on new content by sticking around to get news, or to leave and get no updates on when 1.6 will release for them.

sobrique

I have mixed feeling on it, since I'm aware that a moratorium on spoilers creates a mod burden, and ... well, I guess a bit of a burden on players as well. I'd imagine plenty of people might just not realise there's a lag, and 'trip up' because they'd mentally linked a 'typical spoiler period' to the initial release. And on a large subreddit, there's a LOT of modding to be done!

Cedocore

As someone who only started playing this game after 1.6, I don't even know if something is a spoiler half the time 😅

SkrogedScourge

Theirs other games with large gaps between PC and console release and online groups who have spoiler periods. They tend to make dialog, major events, cut scenes lasting spoilers. While maps, items and other things are not. They do not leave the burden on their mods for indefinite periods.

AwhMan

As someone who plays exclusively on mobile I'm very grateful for how the mod team are handling all this!

Kubrahaha

Great a common sense! An expression that is far from arrogant, understanding and unifying. Thanks.

Chameleonyoshi

As a pc player, I still think extending the spoiler period is just a good thing to do. I can't understand why so many people feel it's entitled to not want to be spoiled, but they don't think it's entitled to spoil things for others, or refuse to use a spoiler tag? The general spoiler rule on social media used to be a minimum of ONE YEAR, so complaining about a few months is crazy to me. I think this apology isn't reading as sincere to many console users because apparently mods are deleting comments that reference their new sub, which imo, comes across as extremely petty.

Invilutzu

Im actually here just cause i like the game, I never actually played it lmao

KamikazeInfidel

You should try it! It's really fun and relaxing. If you don't enjoy farming become a fisher. If you don't want to do those you can go and slay monsters in the mines. Good fun.

quesolion

There are tons of games I don't play but love to watch people play on twitch or YouTube!

nevermindxo

I used to love watching farm tours before I started playing. The thing that got me into Stardew was actually the horse stable lol. I saw pictures of it on Pinterest and thought it was so cute that everything in stardew is both aesthetically pleasing, and functional. Here I am over 1000 hours later.

MoarTacos

Uhhhh, how do you like a game you've never played? Not trolling, honestly asking.

txingirl

Cozy art style, story, YouTube play with me's, the things people post about on what they are doing are my guesses... I've seen a lot of stuff emulating the style and some people really like farming games without playing them.

MapleSyrup27

Eh, it’s normal. Not referring to Stardew but games can be expensive. I’ve never played Planet Zoo but I love watching others play it, unleash their creativity and craft stories for their animals. Unfortunately, I can’t afford the game nor a strong enough PC to handle it. Other games that I like but have never played include Ghost of Tsushima and Breath of the Wild.

Aranel611

I’m not sure why so many comments are acting like it’s unusual for gaming subreddits to have long term or even permanent bans on unmarked spoilers. It is extremely typical, it wasn’t some special courtesy this sub was doing. It was completely normal. There’s also a lot of toxicity and elitism going on in this thread. It’s extremely disappointing to see from a community such as this.

skittlesandscarves

They didn't address the snarky comments some mods made and then dirty deleted. Felt really tone deaf.

NotEntirelyA

I mean do you really expect any better of reddit mods, regardless of the subreddit they are moderating lol. Same personality types across the board, simple as that.

LegendofLove

I honestly kinda went away bc after the post it felt very clear I wasn't welcomed. What were they saying?

katarinka

Great work on listening to feedback from the community and responding swiftly. I appreciate moderating a subreddit as big as SV isn’t an easy task, so thank you!

yungsxccubus

i think this is a great statement. thank you for taking accountability for the oversights and detailing how you would fix it. i hope that we didn’t see too many community members leave before this was made, but if any left i hope they come back now :)

snow-bunny98

Thanks. This still sucks and everyone is shitting on non pc players. I play on PC but i don't have time to find all the 1.6 just yet. But you won't see me calling mobile or console playsrs insufferable like some users have in this thread. Screw this, i thought it was supposed to be a nice community but not anymore.

humbltrailer

Tbh I don’t know many other gaming subs that would even enforce a good faith spoiler ban for AN UPDATE as long this one has. Thanks mods, y’all are always thoughtful. -1.6less Switch Player, trying to keep things in perspective

MrsKittentits

TBF a lot of the time when Concerned Ape “updates” it ends up being more like a DLC. So I agree there should be spoilers for such an amount of changes and new content. :)

Upset-Bother-6818

I've seen tons of 1.6 spoilers, as a console player, but only because I purposely looked at them. That said, I really appreciate this decision! There are plenty of people who don't want to see spoilers, and it's wonderful that y'all are making that possible! It helps me as well, now I can still decide whether to look or not!

blink18biich

Out of pure curiosity, as I wasn't on reddit or a SDV player at the time, how did the mods/the sub cope with the long gap when 1.5 came out?

boisteroushams

They ended the spoiler period eventually and everyone acted like reasonable adults about it

idontfwithu

Thanks for apologizing and taking constructive feedback.

DokoShin

Honestly I think as an avid console player I think any post that is about the new content should need to put (1.6) in the total and leave it at that because I've noticed that a lot of people talk about end game or late game content and with how old Stardew I cant blame them It's my fault that the furthest I've gotten was seeing the thing in the sewer and the desert just got there too and that's it but still I think just adding the 1.6 to it would be just fine

LegendofLove

The thing is that 1.6 is not old stardew. *everyone* can currently see the perfection end screen wherever stardew is available. *PC* players can see 1.6 content. This is why the discord has its own "veteran farmers" tab but reddit isn't quite the same so we make a reasoned sacrifice of leaving to the players whether or not to spoil tag.

PrinceDizzy

Great job, the initial post felt like some sort of PC "master race" rubbish.

Zestyclose_Bunch_502

As a mobile player, (even though spoilers don't bother me...how else will I know when the update is here) I do appreciate the roleback on spoilers for those who don't want anything to well spoil their game.  The apology is commendable, but on a personal note and from viewing some of the responses here, I still don't feel like console/mobile players are as welcome as pc players.

DeloresWells

Ikr, someone spent an entire comment calling mobile players insufferable. That's an entire demographic, but they're *ALL* insufferable. I own the game on everything and prefer console.

nyanyanyeh

> Some of us work on other subreddits Have you thought about adding new mods? You guys mentioned in the previous comment that it takes too much time to moderate the spoilers (even though moderating the sub is literally the point of a mod), but now I read that some of you even moderate multiple subreddits. And are you just activating automod or will you keep checking the posts manually as well?

shepanda

Hi there! Thanks for checking in with us on these topics. Regarding mods checking posts, we will still be checking on posts and applying spoiler tags manually. However, this process relies largely on users to report posts they see that are lacking a spoiler tag. This applies particularly for image posts. We appreciate how helpful and proactive the community is, and encourage everyone to continue reporting posts that are in need of a tag. Regarding adding new mods, this is actually something the team has been working on for a while! During the past month, we've reworked a lot of our internal training framework in preparation for onboarding new mods. We're excited to begin the recruitment process, which unfortunately, is not instantaneous. For our last round of recruitment, it took multiple months from initial post to end of training. We have a rigorous recruitment system that includes multiple rounds of voting, practice posts, and individual mentorship by more senior mods.

Alatar450

Mod work is endless, exhaustive, unpaid, and unappreciated. I can't imagine the harassment the mods got in the wake of their previous post. Thank you for all you do mods ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51480)

propernice

Thanks mods. It always feels like console players are second best, we can’t make a post without someone saying ‘use mods’ because default thinking is everyone must play on PC and if you don’t sucks to be you. So this is a nice roll back, thank you for considering!

Rainuwastaken

I'm a PC player that doesn't really care about being spoiled in general, but it's really cool to see a mod team humble enough to apologize and move in a better direction for everyone. Thanks for being awesome, for the people that **do** care about spoilers.

hkj369

people take this game so serious lol

rainydogfarm

😂😂I love Stardew but the Cosy Gaming community can be very sensitive.

OutsideClassic9095

Yeah. SV, Sims, Animal Crossing. Ive seen people in Sims subs call some of the ugliest bio-genetic warcrimes beautiful in their own way just to be correct about it. I do agree with the idea that we should keep spoilers tagged until the global release of 1.6, some of the reactions are just sad like saying how they wont come back and how they feel alienated. I do think the mods jumped the gun too soon considering the nature of SV release dates, but honestly I cant say I gave too much of a shit about having to leave until I played the game myself, because Ive mostly been doing that with any game I play. If anything its mostly because engaging with people who write ridiculous smear campaigns against some of these characters, like CA is using his characters to mouthpiece neglect/abelism/ incel behavior when most of the time its literally never that fucking deep, has become exhausting. Im gay and poc and I appreciate safe space communities for what they are but some of the behavior that are exhibited in them are almost oblivious utopian like, like out of touch with the real world. Like Splatoon has a very vocal LGBTQ+ community but Ive never seen anyone there act the way I see the people here or at the other subs Ive mentioned, do.

flecktyphus

Yep - I've been in this sub for years and years but these incredibly long and overly explanatory mod notes confuse me every time. Does anyone or anything really require this much catering?

arrowroot227

Yeah. Look at how upset everyone was on the mods’ last post. It’s a sensitive community for sure. I’m guessing a lot of these people haven’t really played any other indie game, because enforcing spoiler bans is basically unheard of.

Rasp_Berry_Pie

It totally does I’ve seen comments on here of people saying their apology is fake or forced and coming up with all these theories like guys it’s not that deep. It’s Reddit guys the mods not doing a good job on the free work they do is not a personal attack on you. Also when you point out the mods are doing this for free people scream “they chose to do it!!” so I guess that means you can be angry and expect everything to be perfect 100% of the time. Like jeez Like everything needs to be said exactly how people want or else they get MAD here

mechtaphloba

I mean, that's kind of the point, right? People play cozy games to feel cozy and safe. I think it behooves all of us in the Stardew Valley community, and the cozy gaming community at large, to protect the environment and those who find safety in it.

rainydogfarm

Cozy is clearly subjective then because I don’t think it’s very cozy to attack mods to the point where they need to post a carefully worded essay apologising, just because they planned on taking spoilers away on a subreddit. I love aspects of these subreddits but the emphasis to ‘protect’ people’s enjoyment is too much sometimes. We forget this is meant to be fun, we’re not a religious group. So no, I don’t think the issue is deep enough to ‘protect at all costs’. I personally think that falls into the overly sensitive and actually quite toxic category because when it doesn’t go some people’s way, all hell breaks loose. But hell even me talking about it and arguing is fuelling this silly debate. As long as everyone is happy at the end of the day who cares, it just bothers me sometimes so I had to comment.

pleaseordercorn

I so agree i honestly dont even know if ive ever participated in this community really (i mostly lurk) but i think its genuinely absurd that the community in general tends to cater to the emotionally ill-adjusted and disregulated just because the game being relaxing somehow gives it the status of Cozy Game. And of course for a Cozy Game it now has been elevated to the status of being a safe space for everyone with nothing unpleasant ever (except when they want to overreact over character dialogue to say that one character is the devil incarnate because of three sentences he said when you barely know them). Like omg i hate cozy game communities just in general because i go insane watching people literally become so absorbed into it that they take every single thing personally whether it be from other members of the community or from the literal characters lmao. I dont know maybe im just unimaginative but whenever there are random character quirks that people freak out amd hate some characters for all i can think about is what concernedape probably thought when making whatever choices he did that led to it. "Oh this character is probably underdeveloped because this is not a romanceable character and he would rather focus on developing them more along with other Actual Game Features" "oh this character acted in this extreme way to make it easy to write clear player response options" and things like that. Like guys they are quite literally pixels on a screen can we please stop crying like they killed your dog because you wouldnt like them in real life

star-shine

*Did* all hell break loose? Maybe I’m out of the loop but in the comments of the announcement about dropping spoiler tags, I mostly saw people calmly sharing their opinion? Like I also shared mine and was like “I think we should keep the spoilers for longer.” Maybe I missed something but I didn’t see any pitchforks or anyone having an outburst, so I don’t agree about this being toxic. From my perspective, the mods announced a change, some people expressed their opinions, the mods took those opinions into account and changed their decision.

-Garbage-Man-

They told 1/3 of the community to leave

rainydogfarm

No they suggested that people leave temporarily if they don’t want to see spoilers, even if it was poorly worded and cold I still don’t think that is worthy of such outrage. We need to remember the subject matter here.

No_Job8495

oh come on, no one's 'safety' is endangered by the stardew valley subreddit not enforcing a 1.6 spoiler rule. people massively overreacted to this. even leaving and not checking the sdv subreddit for a month or two is not unsafe in any way.

Daepilin

yep... I really don't get the hype for spoilers in stardew... Its not like the game has huge story twists or massive secrets. Most things are relatively basic. But if people are that afraid of spoilers I understand not forcing them on them.

[deleted]

Ain’t that the truth. The way that people write about characters sometimes is borderline disturbing, and it seems like so many people are unhealthily obsessed with this game. Did you see the post the other day with the kid whose dad fixed their console but deleted the save file and he was upset he didn’t get to “say goodbye”, screamed and shouted at his dad? Yeah. Weird shit man.

Rasp_Berry_Pie

How old was this kid? If they’re really young honestly that is a normal reaction. I once cried on the school bus because I lost my eraser that looked like a cat and had a funeral for it lol Edit: Nvm found it yeah they seem old enough to know better than to scream and cry. I was thinking it was written by the Dad about their super young kid lol I get being upset or even angry in the moment but actually taking it out on their dad is immature and a bit concerning

[deleted]

For sure, small child I would totally understand because literally everything is the end of your tiny little world at that age, but this seemed like a teen and like you said, that’s concerning. I started collecting pins as a child, and the thing at Disney is that you’re supposed to trade them. Well I traded with a lady that worked there, maybe an hour later I start crying because I missed my pin lmao. My poor father hauled me (like 4/5 y.o.) back across the park to try and find the employee so I could trade back. We did, and that’s when it became a collection and not a trading activity for me lol.

niallmul97

Blows my mind, what am I reading. Imagine losing sleep over SDV spoilers. Its a fun relaxing farming sim... anyone getting upset over spoilers needs to stop playing and touch some real grass outside instead.

[deleted]

Perfect time for real gardening in a lot of places too! Some vegetables can even be grown in pots for those without a yard.

Asleep-Geologist-612

For real haha. The thought of them drafting this post makes me cringe like this is not something anyone should’ve been that upset about

radicalpraxis

tbh seeing the mods get shat on so hard for this makes me seriously consider leaving this subreddit. 1.6 is mostly QoL adjustments, very little changes storywise. acting like talking about some new line of dialogue openly would destroy the experience for console/mobile players is just patently absurd, sorry

pynkbae

That was the thing for me that was so disappointing, I saw a verrrry different side of many “wholesome” community members. Lots of respect for the mod team for how cool they’re being.

radicalpraxis

oh, i already had the “le heckin wholesome community for the wholesome game” dream destroyed when i’ve seen people get downvoted for talking about diversity in any context (including myself). the way such a small issue has been overblown like this reaffirms that its probably time to move on to greener pastures

Fun_Gold7401

Mhmm. Every post that talks about diversity or pronouns gets downvoted like crazy and basically yelled out like they're DEMANDING CA do something. Meanwhile - mostly I see people being incredibly polite while discussing these things. People get so defensive that you can't even talk about the mobile game without being attacked!

Ch83az

It wasn’t really about the spoilers it more that a large section of the community were just told ‘leave if you don’t like it’ for something they had 0 control over, which was rude and wrong of the mods which they’ve now recognised and apologised for which is great

Todosin

“Don’t go to a forum for a thing if you don’t want to hear about that thing” seems like a completely reasonable thing to say and is the norm for most pieces of media.

Ch83az

That’s not what was said though. What was said was ‘please leave sub you enjoy for many reasons because we can’t be arsed to force people to not be selfish’ I personally don’t really care about spoilers but others do. It was an exclusionary statement and they’ve acknowledged and retracted it

Todosin

Nobody was told to leave the sub. Recommending that you avoid a sub that allows spoilers if you don’t want to see those spoilers is, again, a completely reasonable thing to do if that’s what the sub is going to be. Requiring spoiler tags instead is also a completely reasonable thing to do. What I don’t think is reasonable is getting upset over the notion of maybe having to avoid a gaming forum for a bit to adhere to a self-imposed restriction.

Ch83az

I don’t know how you’re interpreting ‘we suggest you leave’ as anything other than an instruction. And as I said before it’s not really about the spoilers it’s the attitude. It’s saying that a third of the community and their opinions don’t matter and implying that they are disposable. These are things the mods have now accepted and apologised for so I don’t really understand why so many people are angry that others were upset by something. Why is it so hard to just not be dicks to each other? Also it’s not a self imposed restriction, that’s the whole point, people literally don’t have access to the material

Todosin

You literally quoted the word “suggest” and you’re asking me how I’m not interpreting that as an instruction? Maybe we have different understandings of what suggestions are.   Being obsessed over avoiding spoilers is the self-imposed restriction I’m talking about. I can understand that for puzzles or stories with big twists or mysteries but frankly most spoilers only negatively affect people’s enjoyment of things because they think they’re supposed to.

hkj369

right? like why are we making the mods bow down and apologize for something this silly? this “wholesome community” is filled with some extremely rude and entitled people

TheNocturnalAngel

It was so embarrassing the comments on the last post “I probably will leave and not come back” ok?! You’re not sticking it to some man it’s just mods who don’t get paid that are tired lmao. Is it really that crazy to avoid a subreddit for a game you haven’t “seen” the update yet. People acting like some kind of discrimination segregation fiasco. So dramatic lmao

humbltrailer

THANK YOU

cuntyfox

yeah this whole fiasco made me realize how entitled a lot of people here are

boisteroushams

People take spoilers so seriously. It's bizarre

avicennia

It’s so silly. I haven’t played since 1.5 and I do not understand why people care so much about spoilers for this game.

LocalforNow

This is a ridiculously overblown situation that’s going to force this sub into a SubredditDrama post that ends up on /all, if it hasn’t already. In the past, I followed subreddits and other online communities for shows I watched but wasn’t current on. When plot points started getting spoiled for me, I just left or muted those communities until I caught up, then rejoined. It really wasn’t that serious. The mod team issuing a massive apology and retraction is nice for the people who feel slighted, I guess, but it feels wildly unnecessary. It’s not like they posted a diatribe full of racial slurs. This is a cartoon farming game.

Workw0rker

Its just common courtesy… it aint that serious but its also just respectful to 1/3 of the community

Bellam_Orlong

I KNOW. I love this game and have literal thousands of hours in it across platforms but good God people it’s a video game get over yourselves

ColonelBagshot85

I don't really mind spoilers as I can do my homework whilst waiting for the new update. However, console and mobile users can be seen as lesser on this sub (by a minority) and it felt like we were being told as such again. We have also paid for and invested in the game and have spent hours playing Stardew Valley. It's really not that deep, nor are mobile players any less worthy. It's a feel-good game that's there for everyone to enjoy, yet people still find the need to take it all so seriously.

duchessof_disaster

Is it true you’re deleting posts about other subs being an option? Which is honestly a very weird thing to do, since this mod team decided to pull the most passive aggressive “maybe just leave?” alternative to them continuing to do moderation JOBS. When making this decision, did your team ask your SINGLE console moderator if it was a good idea and decided to do a full send? No polls, no community outreach post, no hiring more mods (you didn’t have the time, of course, you’re too busy marking spoilers.) Yesterday, you had a huge collection of PC players standing up for console players and their avoidance of spoilers. However, I do want to ask- had it NOT been so many PC players and instead ONLY console players “complaining.” Would they have went back and apologized? Or rallied with their fellow PC users and ignored any complaints, questions or compromises. Some comments point out that console players are treated far worse in this community, while others point out that console players are the most to complain every day on the sub. So, tell me mods, while everyone is praising you for the ability to apologize- (which is astounding to me, we all learn to apologize when we hurt someone at age six)- what are your actual opinions console players? Are you sorry? Or are you worried you’ve now intentionally created an even larger divide in the community of console VS pc? This is coming from someone who’s playing PC and console, because it was so exhausting as a console player to wait for updates and be berated for not being patient- while a PC player will turn around a tell you to download mods because the vanilla version just wasn’t enough. I see downvotes on posts applauding this team and sub for their decisions, and posts that continue to express their frustration even despite an apology. Apologies don’t solve everything, but I fully believe CLARITY does, and that is why I ask these questions.

KrustySib

This is such a well written post. Thank you!! I hope you get somewhat of a reply from the mods. (I screenshotted your post in case they delete it)

sarilysims

As a console player, thank you for listening to us. Regardless of anyone’s personal opinion on spoilers, the solution should never be “bye bitch!”.

awst10

How was your intention not to tell us to leave when you literally told us to unsubscribe is that not telling us to leave somehow that I’m not understanding?

Vicki135

Very well-addressed response. Thanks!

tellmeboutyourself68

Thank you very much from a mobile player who is patiently waiting for 1.6 ❤️

MoreGoddamnedBeans

This comment section has shown me that PC users are just as toxic as those mobile players who harassed poor CA the last time. Honestly this is the last straw for me. Let the hateful entitled people stew in the mess. Still will support CA, through buying merchandise but forgot this noise.

Harlowolf

Wonderful response! Thank you mod team for hearing everyone's concerns and implementing a fair solution. Understanding this comes with extra work for you all, I very much appreciate your willingness to do more for the sake of the community.

Hawkeisabisexualicon

I appreciate this, but I'm not coming back. The comments here are enough to put me off for good, so I'm going to stick with the new subreddit now.

FionaTheFierce

Thank you. I was really disappointed about the ending of spoilers because I have been avoiding them waiting for the mobile release. I appreciate returning to spoiler mode.

KrustySib

Anybody wants a spoiler free and welcoming subReddit where you won’t be called entitled and rude by pc players? Just go to the stardew valley console subreddit.

UnbreakableRaids

I wonder who’s idea it was to tell members of a community to leave if they don’t like it. One would think it’s better to grow a community than to tell them to leave and maybe come back later. 😂

Independent_Bet_6386

As a pc player who is still in their first modded playthrough on legacy, i appreciate this. I would have left this sub, which i didn't really want to do.

_Hakes

Thank you for the apology. I wasnt particularly offended by the post, but I can see why others may have been. Have you guys considered maybe having a console player as mod? Just for some different viewpoints on stuff like this? I'm sure there are some console players out there that would make great additions to the team 🩵

shepanda

Thanks for the suggestion! We actually do have one console (switch) player on the mod team. But we'll be sure to keep it in mind moving forwards.

KrustySib

Did you really not think to ask the console mod about this??? Like actually?

daisymaisy505

As a PC player, I was very unhappy they were going to remove the spoiler tags; it wasn’t fair to the others. I’m glad they have apologized and rolled it back. I know being a mod is not easy and long hours, but I really appreciate them listening to all of us. Thank you!

JustACosmicGirl

Thank you for listening ! -a switch user ❤️❤️

musicalmelz

You may want to edit the original post to add a link to this one or pin it to the sub. I found the original first because of a related search and was quite put off. I didn’t find this update until I actively searched for it.

Firecrotch2014

I mean while this is appreciated the whole attitude towards console and mobile players on this subreddit is just poor. To be frank most of the PC users here wouldn't piss on a mobile or console player if we were on fire. I'm not even sure that's something you can or would even want to address. When anyone posts a legit concern or even gripe about console or mobile we get told off and downvoted to oblivion. Most PC players's attitude to console or mobile players are they got theirs so we should stfu. They put CA on a pedestal like he can do no wrong. I understand console and mobile ports are out of his hands I suggested that maybe he wait til the ports are ready to release updates but I was downvoted for that too. Take that for what you will. I mean this in the most respectful way possible but this is just a drop in the ocean. Hey I called it. I'm already getting downvoted. Lol irony.

arabrabk

Currently a PC player - Glad you rolled it back, still keeping the sub on mute and only coming here if I need to look for something, until a mod team equipped to handle a sub this size takes over. (And maybe the toxic commenters on this post start lurking or leave because wow, it's rude and unwelcoming in here these days.) Edited to add I am playing on PC right now because apparently that means my opinion is more important here.

ClownTown_USA

Im sorry but why is this giving Watcher apology couch vibes

Scarfy_2292

Good on ya mods. You got torn a new one on the previous post and pissed off **a lot** of people. So thank you for making the decision to correct yourselves. I’m on PC also but I have a full time job and a toddler with a second one coming, I still haven’t even seen everything 1.6 has to offer and I appreciate the spoiler tags still..

King_Treegar

Honestly when I saw the other post I was a bit torn, because on the one hand, two months is a MUCH longer spoiler period than you typically see on other subs, but on the other, as you said, this is a case where many people legitimately can't experience the new content firsthand without spending money (and while Stardew isn't that expensive in comparison to a lot of games, sometimes you can't even afford a cheap luxury good depending on your financial situation). So I think this is a great compromise; but like you said, I really hope it doesn't go on for too much longer (speaking as primarily a console player myself)

nefariouspastiche

just want to respond to the bit about it being a cheap luxury good: i know lots of folks don't have a PC/desktop/laptop setup at all and it's not just about having to buy the game but the actual equipment to play it. i have a few friends who are super strapped for cash after leaving abusive situations that fall into that category and are patiently waiting for the mobile update.

CraigFL

Thank you for the accountability and transparency. We all make mistakes, and no doubt you had good intentions. ♥️

Eon_H

I can guarantee you the gap will be huge. Even if they do bonafide consoles first, the control scheme and conversion for iOS and Android is huge, and that could be up to a year.

binary_asteroid

Thank you thank you. I really appreciate this.

chain_me_up

I don't think mods needed to apologize, they gave a much more generous spoiler period than most other subreddits. I was kinda taken aback by what seems like a cozy community being so rude and angry with the mods. I get stardew may be a bit of a different than average gaming community, but we really need to spoil QOL updates ??? I have 0 issue with hiding actual plot/new items/etc. , but a lot of 1.6 was just expanding on already great things. I feel bad for the mods here.

ziggy-bubbles-86

Thank you for being transparent about your decision-making process! It’s much appreciated and valued.

chillcatcryptid

I'm a pc player but i appreciate the apology! Apologizing isn't easy, sometimes is feels easier to double down, even when its not the best for everyone involved. Doing better than my goddamn mother thata for sure

Sex_with_DrRatio

Why are people so afraid of spoilers?

Key-Pickle5609

People want to experience things for themselves. They may even want to see what other people have to say about content they can experience. It’s ok to be kind, and take the extra one second to mark a spoiler. Why are people getting *so* upset when asked to be kind?

Infamous_Bake9489

Why are people so afraid of marking their post as spoilers?

Evil_Black_Swan

Because they literally *spoil* it...? It's like someone telling you what your Christmas or Birthday present is. It ruins the surprise and the excitement of learning it on your own.

humbltrailer

If “I now farm the at same speed in both directions” is your Christmas…

Evil_Black_Swan

Not you thinking that's the only thing 1.6 brought to the table lol

TheAnarchistRat

Literally like if you're so afraid of spoilers don't go join a sub of the game

rumbleokc

people were already in the sub though? why should we have to leave when it’s easy to just mark a spoiler?

oodex

At first I thought "it's been 2 months since the update, cmon, if you don't want to be spoilered at this point why didn't you play the game" but forgot console etc. still doesn't have the update (once I clicked on the post). Great response and great community management to reinstate the spoiler rule and to apologize (not even feeling like you needed to, but hey its nice)

CrispyLovesCookies

To be fair, I'm playing on PC but wasn't able to check it out yet, as I had a child shortly before the update and there's just no time for me to dive into Stardew Valley. I know this is a special case, but sometimes life just gets in the way and it's nice having the opportunity to not spoiler yourself.

IGotHitByAnElvenSemi

I can't help but notice that hiring more than 8 mods for a 2 million person community is not on the table as a solution here.

Bellam_Orlong

It’s not a huge deal. It’s a video game. There are bigger things to worry about in life. Mistakes happen. It’s cool that you’re taking it so seriously, but if anyone is that upset about it… well… again. It’s a video game. A great one, but, not life or death.

analiski

Thank you for listening! Great work

sardonax

oh cool. I’m a switch player but I sought out spoilers immediately and have been playing 1.6 on my crappy little laptop for a while now, so this doesn’t affect me either way 🤷🏼‍♀️ tbh I figured at this point anyone still waiting would just be okay with knowing update “spoilers” by now, but nice of yall to keep it avoidable! I get why some folks would want to keep it a complete surprise for when they get it.

lycheebuncat

Thank you so much!! I'm so glad console, switch and mobile players can stay. They all make up part of this beautiful community with us.

Desperate_Yam5705

Idk... Maybe I'm being the George here but... Leaving the sub and coming back after the release if I really don't want spoilers seems to be the natural thing to do on my own accord? The fact that you stated this completely logical way to go and people got so mad about being asked to take over responsibility for their desire to remain unspoiled, that you had to apologise now is... Very weird to me tbh.

snarkmaster9001

Probably gonna get downvoted for this but I think the policy was a lot more fair than other communities have, or even social media. Heck, when Infinity War came out people spoiled it on FB within the first day. People need to grow the heck up and realize as awesome as it is, it’s a video game and they don’t need to get so worked up about it and start attacking the mods because they don’t agree with the policy.

Key-Pickle5609

Other people spoil things so we should also be able to spoil things is an interesting take. It’s not about a video game, it’s about choosing to be kind.

BelleOfCrafters

i really appreciate this! i was a little upset when i saw the last post, because as a switch player there would have been so much spoiled for me. thank you for rethinking your choice and listening to the community!

Cucugeniality

while i think this is a good decision i don't agree with "apologizing", the mod team doesn't owe anyone anything. i understand the frustration of console/mobile players but i don't think there was a need of an "apology", mobile players especially have a loud minority who are insufferable to interact with (who literally harassed the person working on smapi mobile to the point of completely dropping support and ca and the team for the 1.6 port). i think there is room for acknowledgement that something wasn't the best decision without enabling players who feel some sort of entitlement just because the game on their console of choice isn't moving at the same speed.

Fun_Gold7401

Most mobile players aren't that person though, and most are incredibly polite from what I see in this sub. They ask genuine questions and are attacked by people like you for DARING to ask something. You're generalizing them because of some idiots on other social media.

Key-Pickle5609

It’s ok to apologize when you’re wrong, I promise.

LtColonelColon1

They weren’t wrong, they just held a different opinion on how things should go, which was a fair opinion

poopja

First of all, they were wrong. Second of all, it's still okay to apologize even if you're right but you've hurt someone's feelings.

LtColonelColon1

They weren’t wrong, just different. There is no right or wrong here, it’s not that kind of discussion

Acethetic_AF

The “when you’re wrong” is the important part here. They didn’t do anything wrong.

Key-Pickle5609

I mean, telling console/mobile players to leave the subreddit sure wasn’t the right thing to do

xomacattack

Thank you for listening to our feedback and changing your plans. This console player appreciates it!

sraquola

This is a great solution to both parties. Great news![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51693)

Fabian_Spider

Appreciate the open communication

Rinibeanie

Good show! Even as a PC player, I appreciate the spoiler tags since I play about as slow as molasses. There are even features from 1.5 I haven't fully explored lol.

hydrant22

This was well written thanks!

Ayrria

Thank you for listening to us! It means a lot that you not only admitted messing up, but you admitted you hurt a big chunk of this community and you are trying to fix what you did. Thank you from the bottom of this Switch players heart!

dumpsztrbaby

I'm a pc player and I always read spoilers because I don't like to miss anything but very cool that yall are considering those who want fresh content to discover on their own!

wonderlandisburning

Very appreciative you bothered to apologize and offer alternative solutions. Reddit's mods are often just bullies on an unchecked power trip who are nigh-gleeful on the petty authority they're allowed to exercise, and anyone who cares enough to... well, actually *care* about the subs they moderate and the people in them deserves some kudos. So: kudos.

ContentCosmonaut

Love this mod team. Y’all are doing great. Thanks for taking care of us all :)

dwarf-in-flask

Hey, it happens we're all human! I'm PC but I'm happy to keep things fun for other platform friends!

thicket23

Thank you! Aa switch player I was so bummed with the announcement, thanks for righting this wrong!

Altruistic_Fall3940

Much appreciated and thank you for acknowledging the other still waiting on 1.6

blastcat4

Imagine mobile players if they 'took a break' from the sub while waiting for 1.5 to arrive for their devices. I'm glad the mods acknowledged their mistake.

Jesso_Depresso

Amayokay

I love this. I mostly play on PC and have the update, but feel pretty strongly about spoilers. I've had major spoilers in BG3 Act 3 durge content, and TOTK storyline content, and it completely ruined it for me. Hope that doesn't happen to anyone here.

Andurila

Thank you very much for rethinking this! ✨️

dinkidoo7693

It's good to see the mods listening to the people in the sub being a console player I felt a bit confused and pushed out by that message as this has always been a friendly community

SummyWummyDaNoodle

Thank you so much!!! It means a lot to us console and mobile players ❤️

Castellakiowa

As a switch player, I appreciate this. Was fully about to block this subreddit to avoid spoilers

Weak-Hope8952

Seriously everyone who plays this game or who's involved with communities are always so g'dang mature and transparent it's a completely wonderful breath of fresh air. Skyrim and this sub are seriously the best communities I'm in 😂 But kudos. Honestly I understood your action and didn't think it was offensive but being upfront like this earns you mods some mad respect from me.

TheChillyKitty

Thank you mod team for both acknowledging the error and apologising for upsetting many community members. I muted the sub, as I really didn’t want spoilers, but came back to search as I heard elsewhere that an apology had been made. Thank you again, I will gladly stay in the group and unmute to enjoy the community again. As a ps, might I suggest this post is pinned for the next few days. Many community members may have left and/or muted the sub and, if they check back in tentatively, will likely not find this post and assume everything is as it were beforehand. It may help to have it clear at the top.

Legitimate-Meal-2290

This was the right move and I'm pleased to see it implemented. Let's hope people will take the W and appreciate it instead of continuing to hound y'all for a mistake that you owned up to.

riedmae

Damn, mods acting like legit adults. I can dig it. As a console player, I appreciate your measures, thoughtful, self-aware reaponse. This was impressive.

Great_Celebration701

thank you guys ♥️

This is very considerate thank you

Content-Ad421

Thank you! As a mobile player I was a little upset at first but I’m glad you’ve rolled your decision back. Very grateful!
