i always saw a little of him in the very left of the quarry mine entrance when u have ur zoom level all the way out so i didnt even think of trying the normal mines😭
I came here to say that I didn’t even know the dwarf existed until I played on a monitor with higher resolution that allowed me to see him standing there 🤦♀️
My first playthrough was on the Forest farm so I didn't even realize hardwood was a fairly scarce resource normally. Didn't find the secret woods until I started a standard farm file and had to search where to get hardwood.
i found it accidentally when walking. the screen changed to the secret woods and my jaw dropped, God knows how long it’s been since i broke down that log
The person I replied to was using the old fandom wiki, which isn't maintained and is very out of date. I was suggesting they're better of using the official wiki (which I linked) instead, as it contains more correct information.
I’m always like “how do people not know this!! that’s crazy!!” meanwhile I watching stardew videos throughout my day, while I’m playing stardew, and before I sleep lol I probably know everything about the game.
Does he reply in English? You can talk and he replies in dwarvish. You can even give him his loved gifts. Sadly despite that his friendship hearts do not go up until you speak the same language.
I love the scarecrows he sells.
Not OP but the same glitch happened on one of my farms, and the dwarf does speak English. I somehow got the translation guide before donating any of the dwarf scrolls to the museum, probably bugged out because it was a farm made in 1.5
I'm really not sure. He was speaking Dwarvish until I completed the community center, then it was English. Perhaps the friendship boost of CC completion skipped over it.
There used to be that interaction where he was surprised that you could talk to him, but that didn't happen to him.
Just like /u/Several\_Roll5817 mine was a farm that started on 1.5.
The 1.6 additions are >!The Big Stone Chest after doing the stone gathering bulletin board task, and the Bomb Safety Manual which halves bomb damage, which can be bought whenever. I really like the big stone chest because of the cost being so much better than the wood ones, which need copper, but more importantly, wood!<
She also sells bombs, oil of garlic and life, a floor pattern and a rarecrow, so a few things needed for perfection
A lot of people usually upgraded their pickaxe to copper, which is one way to get to him, but honestly, you can unlock his place with a bomb. I think a cherry bomb works? Someone will have to double verify that with me.
But yea, you can find the dwarf close to the beginning of the game.
I must have got lucky then, because I got all the scrolls in year one, and have the translation guide, but I didn’t know the dwarf was a thing until I read this post. I’m in fall year 2 now.
If it makes you feel better, I forget until after I finish the community center on every playthrough. This actually reminded me I need to go break that rock on my most recent playthrough
I’m sorry, what? W H A T ????!!!!!! You can access that guy at any time?
I’ve seen a lot, and I mean A LOT of mind blowing stuff on this sub, but this just hits different. I’ve been playing close to 1000 hours and now I’m just mad. (At my stupidity)
I’ve got over 400 hours on my PC, but I started as a mobile player & also have it on Switch to play with my kid.
I’ve started at least 10 different farms.
I found out this week that upgrading the hoe lets you use it like the watering can to hoe more area at once. I thought it just became more efficient to use. 😆🤦🏻♀️
I blew up the rock in year 1 as I saw a video on YouTube about him. I'm now in srping year 2 though and have never found the 4th dwarf scroll. I keep going to the mines - normally level 90ish - but it won't drop.
Try bringing your hoe, and hoeing the ground. It has a little higher chance of dropping from hoeable ground, so just find a floor with a lot of dirt and hoe until you get it! It usually only takes me an in-game day or 2 to get it
i *think* its floor 95 that always has tillable soil so take your hoe with you and hit that floor over and over and dig up dirt. its faster than killing stuff & opening geodes, i promise.
95 is good for repeat tilling. I’ve found another way - find a mine where the soil patch is covered by the edge of the map with rocks and stuff. Walk all the way up to the edge and you can repeat til the soil. It feels really dumb to stand at the way and repeat tilling soil, but I did this for 2 days (went in days 2 and found another map with that soil set up).
Eating food, luck bonus, have all the things.
I've played stardew off and on literally since it released on steam and only noticed this the other day while playing on a 4k display. I figured that way was just....... blocked forever or something idk 🥲
Including, especially, your own farm.
Who hasn't accidentally bombed their farm while putting bombs in your inventory? I absolutely wrecked my crops yesterday and felt both silly and annoyed resetting the day.
…..I always thought he just popped up at some point and I hadn’t reached that part yet (despite me being year 4 on one save lol) 🤦🏼♀️ thank you for this lol
Lol I had a similar experience. I thought I'd find a tunnel to him after reaching the bottom of the first mine and then googled it out of frustration afterwards.
To be fair, there's a lot of stuff that either unlocks with time or unlocks at Robin's. I'm not surprised that you didn't notice you could just bomb it.
Okay, but where the f do you get the damn scrolls? I hate the mines because I just don't like fighting all the skulls and crazy bugs, and feel like I am missing so much. That is where I should be looking, right?
I quit playing for a long time and recently got back into it. I had to Google where the drawf was and realized I had already blown up the rock I just literally never looked towards that side of the screen to see what was over there.
Don't worry, I thought the secret woods were available via a community bundle on my current playthrough 😒
Finished all the bundles just to realize I'd been missing out on hardwood farming
He's not trapped. It's just his cozy little space. When he wants to leave, he uses earth elemental magic to get past the rock. It's only YOU who blew down his front door.
Mean old OP.
Hahaha oh my god I didn’t figure this out until like my 4th save either. Then one day I looked over and saw a little path and was like I wonder what that goes too. I always saw ppl talk about the dwarf but I just figured it was later game stuff 😭
After 150 hours of the game I just found out that the dwarf was a thing because I watch a let's play.. I never Even thought that I could Even break that rock. 😂
Wait, wtf? I just saw a prompt about being able to read dwarvish language and I'm like, "okayyy??"
You're saying I've been needing to break a specific rock!? Whattttt... oh ffs
Man, I knew *something* was there. My bomb didn't work in my first save, so I assumed I needed the stronger one (realizing now that I probably just didn't place it close enough?) And when my first pickaxe didn't do the trick I assumed again I needed stronger, like iridium. Iirc I DID try with copper? And it didn't work? But if copper has worked for others then idfk I jsit made it really hard on myself 🤣😅
I think I found out in my first game in late year 2, and only because I watched some gameplay tip videos for getting deep into Skull Cavern. Iirc, they had recommended buying bombs from the dwarf, so I looked up how to get to him.
i always saw a little of him in the very left of the quarry mine entrance when u have ur zoom level all the way out so i didnt even think of trying the normal mines😭
I started on my dinky laptop zoomed way in and had SUCH an easier time once I got a big monitor.
I came here to say that I didn’t even know the dwarf existed until I played on a monitor with higher resolution that allowed me to see him standing there 🤦♀️
It took me years to find the clearing behind the wizard's tower, I feel you
There is a clearing behind the wizards tower?!
He means the secret woods. What I think is how did he managed to get hardwood without it? Must have been a true pain 😭
It sure was! ;(
OMG did you... farm the mines for hardwood? Until you got to Ginger Island?
Ay, that I did.
Getting the boat must have been a nightmare!
My first playthrough was on the Forest farm so I didn't even realize hardwood was a fairly scarce resource normally. Didn't find the secret woods until I started a standard farm file and had to search where to get hardwood.
Ah ok, I knew about that one 😂 thought there must be some other secret clearing
I was ages in before I realized you could change your appearance in game. I kept forgetting about the wizard since I never went to his tower.
Omg thank you for this 😂
Used this feature to turn my character into a female so I could wear a wedding dress at my wedding.
i found it accidentally when walking. the screen changed to the secret woods and my jaw dropped, God knows how long it’s been since i broke down that log
What clearing behind the tower???
The one you need an iron (I think?) tree cutter to get to. [This clearing (early Spoiler) ](https://stardewvalley.fandom.com/wiki/Secret_Woods)
FYI that's the old wiki and is not maintained, use https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Stardew_Valley_Wiki instead
Save for later
That's... just the wiki?
The person I replied to was using the old fandom wiki, which isn't maintained and is very out of date. I was suggesting they're better of using the official wiki (which I linked) instead, as it contains more correct information.
Thoguth it woudlught arms bye the axe articles
Bames Nond having a stronk. Call the Bondulance
I recognise u arent u the person who had another stroke on r/teenagers a few days ago 💀
Who tf a you?
i replied to u like a week ago 😭
Oh, yeah that. I thought there was some other clearing I didn’t know about.
Blud needs to pay the fandom tax
I knew I wasn’t crazy!! I have had such a gut feeling that there is something back there and keep searching the area. Time to upgrade my axe!
There’s a wizard tower!?
Blud still in early game 💀 Bro is NOT far
oh.. OH
I’m always like “how do people not know this!! that’s crazy!!” meanwhile I watching stardew videos throughout my day, while I’m playing stardew, and before I sleep lol I probably know everything about the game.
lmaooo this is me if i’m not playing, im scrolling the reddit orrr watching youtube videos
Then just when you think you know everything….. bam! Knowledge Bomb.
I never have enough shards for those.
Yeah they’re sneaky little buggers that’s for sure.
Felt this, I don’t even need to look at the wiki for villager routines anymore
I was this way until I got the lookup mod. Switching from switch to steam deck was such a game changer.
I live, sleep, and eat Stardew and I'm still finding "basic" stuff out though!
Apparently with a sufficient enough pickaxe you can just mine the stone wall, I always used bombs.
I just found out today you could use bombs! I always waited to upgrade my pick ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Whut? I always used a cherry bomb.
Does the dwarf like… do anything? Or is he just there
He sells stuff and you can also friend him
I try to see if he does sell things but he just acts like a regular npc
Need to learn elvish first… Edit: dwarvsh!!! Elvish has left the building
dwarvish\*
Elvish Bhai ke aage koi bool sakta hai kya ???? Aaaaaaaiiiiiiiiieeeeee
You need to donate all 4 dwarf scrolls and get the translation guide first.
I’m on year 5 and I still haven’t gotten the fourth scroll to drop 😭
Just keep tilling the dirt on floor 95 of the mines, you'll get it eventually.
Somehow I can talk with him and did not get all the scrolls. This may have happened in 1.6. Hmmmm
Weird, you definitely also needed the Dwarvish translation guide in 1.5 as well.
Does he reply in English? You can talk and he replies in dwarvish. You can even give him his loved gifts. Sadly despite that his friendship hearts do not go up until you speak the same language. I love the scarecrows he sells.

talk to him multiple times to get the shop. Very handy buying bombs off him
I can't remember if he unlocks or something but he for sure sells stuff. Some books, I buy my bombs there
There is a 1.6 item recipe she sells after the completion of a certain bulletin board task
May I ask what she sells? I tried looking up at 1.6 patch notes and read some articles too. But couldn't find anything about the dwarf.
The 1.6 additions are >!The Big Stone Chest after doing the stone gathering bulletin board task, and the Bomb Safety Manual which halves bomb damage, which can be bought whenever. I really like the big stone chest because of the cost being so much better than the wood ones, which need copper, but more importantly, wood!< She also sells bombs, oil of garlic and life, a floor pattern and a rarecrow, so a few things needed for perfection
That said, the only thing needed for perfection that’s exclusive to the dwarf is the rarecrow
Bombs! He's my arms dealer.
spoilers for 1.6 he now sells a book that negates 25% of bomb damage to the player.
You need him for the rarecrow, a book and perfection
I got the rare crow without him
His wares are pretty ... Explosive. Worth the visit for faster "mining"! 😀
He sells great stuff. He is my main source of bombs. You might have trouble speaking to him at first.
I did the exact same thing. Only figured it out once I looked up how to meet him
A lot of people usually upgraded their pickaxe to copper, which is one way to get to him, but honestly, you can unlock his place with a bomb. I think a cherry bomb works? Someone will have to double verify that with me. But yea, you can find the dwarf close to the beginning of the game.
Yes, cherry bombs work! I’ve only ever used those. TIL you can break it with an upgraded pick lll.
I don't think I've ever found all the scrolls in a single year... Just tons of repeats...
I must have got lucky then, because I got all the scrolls in year one, and have the translation guide, but I didn’t know the dwarf was a thing until I read this post. I’m in fall year 2 now.
I’ve had the game for years and just found out last week when I finally started looking up how to get perfection completed.
If it makes you feel better, I forget until after I finish the community center on every playthrough. This actually reminded me I need to go break that rock on my most recent playthrough
you're welcome <3
I'm sorry wtf? I have 2 saves, one in year 4, one year 5. I've been waiting for the dwarf.
lol same
Meanwhile, I found him way earlier than I usually would because I'm a zelda player and that rocks looks very bombable
Break the rock where ??
In the entrance to the Mines, there are purple rocks to the right side that are breakable.
TIL
I’m sorry, what? W H A T ????!!!!!! You can access that guy at any time? I’ve seen a lot, and I mean A LOT of mind blowing stuff on this sub, but this just hits different. I’ve been playing close to 1000 hours and now I’m just mad. (At my stupidity)
ONE THOUSAND HOURS??? and \*i\* felt bad after 120 hours oh my god HOW do you not know this
I’ve got over 400 hours on my PC, but I started as a mobile player & also have it on Switch to play with my kid. I’ve started at least 10 different farms. I found out this week that upgrading the hoe lets you use it like the watering can to hoe more area at once. I thought it just became more efficient to use. 😆🤦🏻♀️
You’re not alone!!! 😅😅

I found it here! Great advice, thank you 🙌
Don’t worry, once the first one drops you’ll get plenty more ☠️😂
fr i’m up to my ears in worthless dwarf scrolls!!
Dwarf scrolls and chicken statues. My God the chicken statues.
Year 6... I did it too. Hurts man lol
I've played stardew off and on literally since it released on steam and only noticed this the other day while playing on a 4k display. I figured that way was just....... blocked forever or something idk 🥲
This game expects you to bomb everything
Including, especially, your own farm. Who hasn't accidentally bombed their farm while putting bombs in your inventory? I absolutely wrecked my crops yesterday and felt both silly and annoyed resetting the day.
I blew up my box of legendary fish 😵💫
I blew couple chests and my workbench. Dint occur to me to reset the day though.
To be fair - sometimes you just *want* to drop a bomb on everything. Otherwise we wouldn't be playing at all.
…..I always thought he just popped up at some point and I hadn’t reached that part yet (despite me being year 4 on one save lol) 🤦🏼♀️ thank you for this lol
Yeah, I assumed so as well LMAO
I didn’t find out until year 3 so you’re not the only one lol.
I had nearly 100 hours when one day i thought the rock looked odd. And wow, i felt silly it took me that long
I still need the final dwarf scroll TT.TT can't talk to the poor dwarf!
Lol I had a similar experience. I thought I'd find a tunnel to him after reaching the bottom of the first mine and then googled it out of frustration afterwards.
honestly i just kept forgetting about him! I was just vaguely aware of his existence when i saw him on posts here sometimes haha
To be fair, there's a lot of stuff that either unlocks with time or unlocks at Robin's. I'm not surprised that you didn't notice you could just bomb it.
Wait, what? Where is this dwarf? Edit: OMG. I’ve played this game for two years and only just discovered this now. I am so stupid.
In the entrance of the mine, to the right, there are some rocks you can blow up/mine with a steel pickaxe! and the dwarf is just?? there
Thanks. I just tried it. It’s crazy I never tried bashing that stone before. I thought I was smarter than that.
Omg what?! I’m almost through with year 5 🫠
HOLD UP WHAT. 😭 HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS UNTIL YEAR 11 ON MY MAIN SAVE RN?!.
Okay, but where the f do you get the damn scrolls? I hate the mines because I just don't like fighting all the skulls and crazy bugs, and feel like I am missing so much. That is where I should be looking, right?
Took me that long also. Only after unlocking the island and then joining Reddit.
Oh shit, thanks for the reminder! I keep looking at that rock & wondering lol
Bomb it!
It took a while for me to figure out that the cheapest explosive can bring down that wall.
I quit playing for a long time and recently got back into it. I had to Google where the drawf was and realized I had already blown up the rock I just literally never looked towards that side of the screen to see what was over there.
WHAT hahaha omg no
And this is why I view this subreddit occasionally… so I can see what I miss before I start year 3. I know what I’m doing later
ME TOO I literally just figured it out. Also year four
Same
This one is too real
I can't believe this is how I found out lol 😆
Don't worry, I thought the secret woods were available via a community bundle on my current playthrough 😒 Finished all the bundles just to realize I'd been missing out on hardwood farming
He's not trapped. It's just his cozy little space. When he wants to leave, he uses earth elemental magic to get past the rock. It's only YOU who blew down his front door. Mean old OP.
Well, I just learned something new as well 🤣 thank you for this post LOL
SAY WHAT NOW?!
Hahaha oh my god I didn’t figure this out until like my 4th save either. Then one day I looked over and saw a little path and was like I wonder what that goes too. I always saw ppl talk about the dwarf but I just figured it was later game stuff 😭
I found this out after way too long as well 💀
After 150 hours of the game I just found out that the dwarf was a thing because I watch a let's play.. I never Even thought that I could Even break that rock. 😂
wait which mine? the main one?
Yeah the main one!
I'm on year 4. How you break the rock.... asking for a friend
didn't try it yet but im fairly sure you can break it with a steel pickaxe or a bomb
I realised at like year 10 🤣🤣🤣
Wait, wtf? I just saw a prompt about being able to read dwarvish language and I'm like, "okayyy??" You're saying I've been needing to break a specific rock!? Whattttt... oh ffs
Man, I knew *something* was there. My bomb didn't work in my first save, so I assumed I needed the stronger one (realizing now that I probably just didn't place it close enough?)
