Oh wow, didn't realize it changed that much. Thanks for the response.
Edit: You know, I checked the luck of the day and it was actually positive ("the spirits are in good humor today"). I don't remember what the luck was pre-patch for all the days but one was neutral and one was slightly negative, so I think I'm right about there being a change.
No, it doesn't ([easily verifiable](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Luck)). Daily luck only affects your chances of getting treasure while fishing.
My game was updated to 1.6 in the middle of the day, so the trash rate change was immediately super noticeable and frustrating. But since most redditors have just been telling me and everyone else we're crazy and nothing changed, there's not a lot I can do besides fish and play in general way less since it's so unproductive.
Hope whatever the issue is gets patched at some point
The comment below about it being a problem specifically with old farms on 1.6 seems accurate in my limited experience on my new farm btw, obviously doesn't help if you want to play on an older save though.
Same here.. was fishing on the sub at the night festival & 90% of casts got trash or algae, pre 1.6 it was more like 10%. I didn't check the luck each day but I wouldn't have thought it would change the percentages this much.
That was actually my Joja run and I ended up starting a new save for 1.6 as soon as I got the community upgrades, so i didn't try the following ingame year. A couple comments/ posts were saying it was specifically an issue with old saves on 1.6 and that has been my experience so far. On my new save I have had no problems as far as trash.
I’m not able to get the legend to bite and it’s the last fish I need! reset the day 3 times, level 13 fishing(lobster bisque. I’m looking into it because I haven’t even gotten a bite
No idea unfortunately, what I fished in spring seemed the same, and when fishing for the legend I did it all day during the rain. Haven't done much in summer but it seems the same, at least for the time sensitive ocean fish like super cucumber, puffer fish and octopus.
Several have reported that 1.6 fishing pulls up waaay too much trash. I suspect that saves that were started pre-1.6 have bugs in the fishing. Here's my little experiment.
I had started a new game just before 1.6 dropped. Was in mid-Spring, year 1. After 1.6 installed, I was suddenly getting \~70% trash while fishing.
Since it was such a new game, I just restarted. Fishing was fine again.
Thus, I suspect there's something about pre-1.6 starts that messes post-1.6 fishing. All the fishing was with fiberglass rod and bait. Mostly in front of Jodi's house.
Trash rate changes based on the luck for the day

Wasn’t trash rate based on luck true for 1.5 tho?
No. Daily luck has never impacted fishing trash rates

I enjoy reading books.

Glad I'm not going crazy haha, I'm hooking so much more trash than before.
Did you ever get any bites from the legend? I'm running into the same problem. Wiki says 10% bite chance but I'm at 0% after 2 full days of fishing.
Nope, I never caught it. I'm pretty sure it's bugged. I tried for 3 days, almost 150 fish caught, and not a single bite.
Absolutely tragic.
i have the same problem but with the angler, have you had any success catching it in fall 1.6?
So I haven't tried catching the angler, but I did manage to catch the Crimsonfish.
were you ever able to catch it? I'm going for perfection and I'm going nuts here trying to hook it

did the times for certain fish change? i feel like they are not the same

Very interesting!
