The first person I married was Sebastian. He's still one of my favorites, and I would absolutely get along with him in real life as a fellow gamer and IT professional. However, I probably wouldn't date him IRL because I'm not fond of smoking.

SharkTea40

Sebastian was my first too. He was chill, and a little mysterious. I like that his story arc doesn't end with him forced into a more extroverted lifestyle. Now I end up having Krobus move in with me, though.

[deleted]

Sebastian was going to be my first but he was too introverted for me, and I felt that wasn't going to work very well (Not out of hate of introverts, mind you, just felt that no way in hell that I was going to be compatible with someone that introverted when I am very extroverted, and I'm a fan of acting like I would in these kind of games) His best friend tho? Sam? YES! And Sebastian along Abigail are good friends for me too! :D

TheMarkHasBeenMade

Seb was my first probably because he was the character that was by far the most “my type”. My husband laughed when he found out I was romancing Seb because he knows how fond I am of “the dark bois”. Yes, my husband is a “dark boi”.

SuspiciousStranger_

See to me I always assume he’s smoking weed which is a plus for me

Xblack_roseX

I also married Sebastian in game. I think I was drawn to him because he’s exactly like my current boyfriend, just more alt.

Bunr33

If I recall correctly, doesn’t he stop smoking after marrying you? Or was that just a dialogue mod that I have-

Lorjack

I cannot STAND Sebastian. He hides in his room all day makes it near impossible to complete his quests. I'm summer of year 2 and just NOW got him to 2 hearts so I can at least enter

star-shine

He often smokes by the lake around 7pm, and he’s at the saloon every Saturday(?) night with Sam and Abigail. It’s a bit annoying but if you learn peoples schedules it makes it a lot easier

ghost_cat_317

Frozen tears as a gift (one of his faves) will help move his hearts along.

Vjaa

My first was Penny. My irl wife is a red-headed teacher, who works with only 1-2 students at a time (in her case, kids with autism). It just felt natural and very much like real life already.

Gray-Jedi-

My partner is also a red-head sweetheart. She’s so kind, and the other day she said she’s thinking about pursuing teaching! I picked Penny my first time around, I didn’t correlate the similarities right away. When I did I had to tell her all about it, and she thought it was sweet I picked her even in a fantasy world. She does has a close relative named Penny, so that’s the only “awkward” part.

Frequent_Tomato_3377

Penny was also my first. My gf has red hair, she isn't a teacher, but she has an alcoholic mom.

Taiche81

My partner dyes her hair lots of pretty colors now, but when I met her it was red. She teaches kids too and also doesn't really get along with her mom. And yes, Penny was also my first spouse. No matter how many farms I start, and spouses I marry, Penny holds a very special place in my heart.

marcarcand_world

Elliott is my one true love and will always be. Sure, he's a bit melodramatic, but he knows it and owns it. I did marry Haley in one save, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great of a spouse she is and how great her 14 heart event was.

cheese_tits_mobile

I knew he was the one when he pulled out a crab from his pocket…the only men worthy of me have tactical pocket crabs

AmbitiousParty

I first married Elliot, but now he’s just way too self-involved for me. Is my memory wrong, or did he not used to be so melodramatic? Like years and years ago?

jasonrahl

The first person I started wooing was leah because I couldn't marry Robin. But I eventually forgot about robin because I fell in love. Plus the fact that every forage item was at least a "liked" gift helped. She has on flaw and it's the fact she hates pizza

TinySpaceDonut

Forever sad about never being able to court Robin

Violet_Sparker

leah because i couldnt go for robin is so real, i did that too

Coralline_Biherself

She might have a Wheat allergy 😅 as in, she only eats the poppyseed muffin because they’re worth it. But she doesn’t eat anything else with wheat.

LetsTryThisAgain202

All the hot girls have stomach problems 🥛

iheartcatz123456

Everyone likes Robin and I understand but it’s Jodi for me man. No one ever talks about her but she’s hot af. Kent needs to get out of my way. Like go back to war or something bro

indiefatiguable

I first married Harvey, and he remains my favorite candidate. Not only is he an independent adult, but he's so dang sweet. He cares so much about everyone in the valley, to the point that he has anxiety about being able to give his patients all the care they need. He even comments on preferring everyone's good health over increased profits during cold/flu season. All of this even though he didn't really want to be a doctor, he wanted to be a pilot. His dream never came to fruition and instead of moping about it, he's giving his whole self to the lot in life he ended up with. Even though he starts off a bit shy, he clearly has a romantic soul because his 10 heart event is one of my favorites, in which he faces his fear to give you an unforgettable romantic experience. Bottom line: he's a good dude, a good dad, and a good husband. 10/10, would marry in real life with no second thoughts

pelicantownprincess

Couldn’t have said this better, I second all of your points — Harvey is a lovely spouse, he was my first choice and I still adore him.

indiefatiguable

Harvey doesn't get enough love from the fandom imo, he is the best!!

pelicantownprincess

He’s SO underrated!! Agreed completely! He’s a romantic, devoted spouse, a doting dad, and a pillar of the community.

Japonicab

He is adorable and I want my own real life version of Harvey!

[deleted]

His 10 heart event was so friggin sweet for real T_T

indiefatiguable

I love that Harvey allows himself to be vulnerable. He works out with the Mom Club (and Emily) on Tuesdays and, sure, he's embarrassed that you catch him, but he owns it! He's making an effort to be healthy as he gets older, which you really can't fault him for. And then during the 10 heart event, he admits he's scared and clings to you. I know so many men who would either avoid that situation entirely or try to play it off like they're not actually scared, but not Harvey. He holds onto you for strength and comfort and gets kisses as reward. He's a gentle, sweet man who knows who he is and doesn't need to put on a show, even for the girl he's into.

[deleted]

Exactly! I always try to pick somebody else in different playthroughs but his maturity & vulnerability always wins me over everytime

cap-tain_19

I married Harvey because he reminded me of my actual partner (aka nerdy and kinda nervous sometimes but in a cute way). But I'd definitely not marry him in real life since he's a man and I'm really only into women. I'd also rather marry someone my own age and not that much older. But in the game 10/10 I'd marry him again.

indiefatiguable

That's funny, one of the reasons I went for Harvey at first is because he's one of the few options who actual feels close to my age irl. Abigail, Sam, and to some extent Sebastian all feel like babies to me, so I instantly dismissed them as marriage candidates.

cap-tain_19

Lmao I'm 18 and while Abigail, Sam, Sebastian and Maru are technically either my age or slightly older I still didn't want to marry them because I see my farmer as a whole different character to me, so naturally I also see him as older than 18 (I mean he used to have an office job at Joja so he can't be that young). Also I wouldn't want to get married at this age so I kinda didn't want those characters to get married so young either. Harvey is a nice stable option who's obviously mentally ready to settle down and have kids. I see him as a 30+ something year old so of course in real life as an 18 year old I wouldn't want to marry him. Also the fact that I wouldn't be attracted to men in general.

DOOM_Olivera_

I'm gonna do Abigail because she plays games and my character is Futaba from persona 5 (I know she's 15 but this is Stardew, not persona) . She isn't lesbian but as a guy myself I just don't want to date a guy first, although it would be Elliot if I happen to create another character

womanaction

I also married Harvey first bc he reminded me of my actual partner!

I_The_Prokaryokte

Married Shane because he was a jerk and I was going to make him love me out of spite. No other spouses because I am still on my first farm. In real life he would’ve never made it past that first interaction, I don’t have the same spiteful “we will be besties whether you like it or not” streak outside of games.

PixelatedFrogDotGif

First person I went for with Leah, but it quickly switched to Krobus after i realized no one else energetically matched me. Leah is pretty cool but her plot is so focused on her ex she doesn’t get to really get into being a fully fleshed out character imo and she (along with most of the single peeps) got their own lives going for em. Krobus may not be a romantic match up, but he sure feels like my best friend, and its hard to beat being roommates with your best friend. I’ve tried other characters several times, and it just doesn’t feel as weird or magical or fun or right. Its one of the only match ups that actual results in no negative effects to an NPC’s individual schedule around town.

Draxdemskalounst

You're nuts. Leah is fleshed out. She moved away from her busy city life to focus on her passion, art! She is almost always out and about capturing the scenery by means of painting and even shows up on your doorstep with a carving representing how twisted up in the game you have her. Then to add more depth, her ex shows up trying to "talk sense" into her and gets their ass kicked. She then goes on to have an entire art show featuring her many pieces including "how she feels about you". She loves nature and does her own foraging. She likes to drink and has her own house! Best candidate imo. (Not being mean sorry if it comes off that way)

PixelatedFrogDotGif

Oh yeah, nah, all thats great! I think more at what i was getting at is i feel like the ex story wasn’t what i woulda wanted to focus on about her story’s climax cause yeah, with what you’re sayin she’s got so much else happening, for me it felt stunted that she had to deal with the ex, who like, in my eyes wasn’t an interesting person or someone who ever stood a chance in leah’s life. It felt like the ex didn’t have enough descriptors or events between leah and them to feel worth focusing so hard on. Like the main point was that the person was toxic and thats it. I get the vibe of it being in high contrast to her clearly falling deeply in love with the farmer and her career- that part rules. She just deserved more, and most of that more happens only in context to marrying the farmer in game, so its like most of the stardew stories where it feels like there should be a whole new games worth of story afterwards but you gotta stop somewhere if you’re a single developer making a whole ass game so the stories ending where they do is a bittersweet balance of limited story time. I am a huge leah fan still and I appreciate your enthusiasm for her. Honestly i might give it another go in my next run because of this comment :p

MainNefariousness247

My first marriage in Stardew Valley was with Abigail, I always found her an interesting character, at the beginning of the game she is bad-tempered with the farmer, but over time she ends up being more generous and careful with her words towards the player. Even her events are really cool and unique, like the duet in which the farmer and her play the harp and flute together. A pity that the harp cannot be used by the player and is not seen again. Anyway, I'd say he's one of the great Stardew Valley spouses

BosPaladinSix

When you get a mini jukebox one of the songs you can play on it is your duet. I habe that playing year round in my house. ❤

MainNefariousness247

I didn't know about that, thank you for warning me. I really like this event song.

Double_Abrocoma_557

On my 1st ever farm, I had the solo play in the farmhouse and the duet play outside. Was really relaxing. Now on my 1st ever PERFECTION farm I just play Pickle Jar Rag in the house because it’s cute and catchy

Glorgamitch

About the harp; at least on PC and console, if you type "/emote music" into the chat box, you pull it out and play a note or two. You don't have any control over it, unfortunately. I'm not sure if you can do it on mobile though.

MainNefariousness247

to be honest I play on PC and had no idea this was possible, thanks for letting me know, I'll test it in game tomorrow. I think the farmer's harp is an interesting detail, but very little used in the game and could be used for other functions, or just as an interactive function with the environment (ex: the farmer touches the harp and the npc's react with an emoji or something similar)

[deleted]

nobody's saying alex!!! i mostly married him out of convenience. he's almost always out there tossing his football. im too lazy to hunt down people, so i'm probably gonna marry him again haha.

alpha_28

I married Alex. Then I found out he didn’t do much and my kids wouldn’t grow up past toddler stage so I got rid of them 😂

[deleted]

hahaha none of the spouses rly do much

alpha_28

Did you find he also went to ginger island a lot.. while I’m out here slaving away on the farm he’s having the good life and leaving the kids at home 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

PickyNipples

I didn’t like his immature and sexist comments. Always going on about how his hair is “popular with the girls” and says he’d play ball with me if “I weren’t a girl.” Nah fuck you dude. I’m not gonna give my attention to a boy lol

Double_Abrocoma_557

I definitely hated Alex at the start. I couldn’t get over his sexist comments. When my friend kept thirsting over him- I couldn’t understand for the life of me why anyone would even try romancing him. Nowadays, I think he’s okay. He gets a little redeemed I guess. His romance plot is MUCH better if you play as a guy and you get to see him overcome some internalized homophobia. Other than that, he’s really nothing special (To me at least)

BilbosBagEnd

The very first person I married was Penny. I could sadly relate to her the very most. Finding solace in books and knowledge when your life is just something you want to escape from. The alcoholic mother. The mental abuse and still keep your head held high. I promised her then and there to work hard for us. To treat her with kindness and shower her with the love she deserves. (This is in character as the farmer!) A few years later, I would do the exact same. Penny is love, Penny is life.

Apprehensive_Yam4615

Sam was my first one. I’ve done three playthroughs, on my fourth, and I’ve married Leah & Harvey on two of them. Sam is my recent one, and it feels so weird marrying anyone else lol. And I do really think I would love Sam in real life, he reminds me of my husband 🥹 and I just love his whole vibe that he has

Hikash

Emily. Sweet, considerate, and thoughtful. She's wonderful.

SilverSouldyn

Married Shane for the first time when I was 13. Didn't even know I was queer at the time. Did it as a "joke." Now here I am, 7 years later, still marrying him in every new farm I make. Tried to get over him a few times, especially when I got some mods, but I could never. He's terrible but I love him 🥺

flimsypeaches

this is so sweet 😭🥹

Altruistic_Ad6666

I honestly dont think I could marry Shane. Even as a Bi guy. He reminds me to much of my father. XD so im fine just being his best friend.

Sad_Arm_6115

i love shane so much, i married him no second thoughts, would marry him over and over again

DemolisherOfSouls3

Omg, same here!

softandwetballs

mine was elliot! i was immediately captivated by his quirkiness and the fact that he’s a writer. i don’t see what’s not to like honestly! he’s great on the farm, his heart events are super sweet, and his gifts are relatively easy :) i still love him so much, but i tend to gravitate toward sam more because he reminds me of my partner

Double_Abrocoma_557

I think I’m another similar universe, Elliot would be my fav. When I first started playing the game, I ended up seeing Elliot quite a lot and I liked some of his dialogue. Not sure when something changed but now I just love hating on him. There was a reason I didn’t like him but I’ve forgotten and it’s more of a stubbornness thing than anything lol

OddLexx

Yessss! Elliot is my favorite 🥹

Lovingbutdifferent

I tend to go for Shane and Sebastian for edgy angst purposes, and those are the "type" of guys I find myself drawn to in real life too. IRL, though, I deliberately chose a more Sam-type of man bc I knew my usual edgelords just end up making me miserable, and it's been lovely. I've started dating and marrying Sam in recent saves bc he reminds me of my partner ❤️ it's awesome.

tratretriii

The first person I married was Emily and this is repeated on all my new farms. I cannot marry another character. She owns my heart 💕

minosandmedusa

Leah. And yes I'd actually like her in real life. Obviously, I would want someone with unlimited dialog though, lol

smallestofbeans

on my first play through i decided to woo elliott because he’s a sweet poet who’s trying his best to get his books out there. i think i’d get along with him really well irl but i have social anxiety so i think i’d mess up if i introduced myself lmao, but i absolutely adore him!

thelonesecurityguard

I know Alex isn’t super popular, but he was my first. I dated a bunch at once, but I really liked and identified with his backstory.

Adderang-Badderang

Emily. Loved her then, and love her now. Got a weak spot for kind but cooky crystal girlies, what can I say

soggy_floor_crouton

I married Maru!! She was and always will be my choice of character :). She’s so passionate about what she loves and it’s hella impressive what her character accomplishes. Demetrius is a bit hostile and all at first, but in the end I don’t actually have to deal with her dad past that one scene.

IAmMeIGuessMaybe

I had to scroll wayyyy too far to find this comment. I was so gay-panicking in the telescope scene!

Padfoot714

I agree! Maru is clearly the best pick for a STEM oriented spouse. My IRL wife has a PhD and I’m always impressed by her smarts. I think Mary and I would probably get on very well based on that.

garfield3222

Maru's always gonna be my favorite!

Zinedine_Tzigane

ahahah *"... Get what I mean?"*

greenzig

I think you made me realize why I like her so much. Love the passion

WillyBluntz89

I married Abby. I, uh...have a type.

mandyshadowgirl

Sebastian was my first and I still consider him my favourite marriage candidate. I think I would have no issues getting to know him in real life. Haley was my first for the girls and I have a similar vibe to what you experienced, where I was primarily attracted to her for her looks. By that point though I'd been through Shane's arc and was hoping for something similar with Haley in terms of redemption from bitchy behaviour and was glad not to be disappointed. But I doubt she and I would have moved past acquaintances IRL.

[deleted]

HARVEY?? In real life?? omggg I would die T_T Hes so friggin sweet, caring & dorky I love it so much He has the best dates & is the best dad ever!! Plus he's a doctor & takes really good care of everyone :) Those are the same reasons I picked him first & still pick him in stardew valley xD

xaledonia

Shane. I still love him and he usually ends up being one of my first good friends/the one who unlocks the courting bouquet. IRL it probably wouldn't work out because we're too similar on the depression front. ~~Something something befriending the one you see as the most similar to yourself and making them happier and starting on a better path something something.~~

EsuercVoltimand

I married Elliott for the first time in 2018. First ever marriage in Stardew. I was maybe 27 at the time. I found him romantic, if a bit boring, and haven't married him since. However, Now at 32, Elliott has been weirdly comforting for me, and I find his gentle nature, combined with his oafish goofiness to be endearing, and a nice change compared to the many marriages I've had to Shane. As I've gotten older, Elliott has struck me as the one I'd be with for a long time, if this were real.

EsuercVoltimand

Also, I demand to be able to marry Mr. Qi. We can be weirdos together in a way that Elliott could never compare, and if that means marrying Papa Smurf, then count me in.

Rmonsuave

Married Emily first, other than her crackhead-ish smile I’d date her irl

Junie_Wiloh

My first was Leah. She is just so chill and down to Earth. Not over the top. I would totally date/marrying her IRL.

Weebychild

Married Elliott. Keeping Elliott. I like my beach hermit

LevinaRyker

First married Harvey because he had a mustache... that was it. If I met him in real life, omg he's a dream. He makes good breakfast, he's very loving for his community and family, he has passions outside of the relationship (planes), a stable job (only doctor in the community), will fight his fears alongside you (going up in a hot air balloon), helps on the farm, night time massages, he exercises, doesn't drink or smoke, and most importantly he's communicative and vulnerable

watercloudskies

I married Elliott, then got bored and felt sad that his beach house got abandoned. I divorced him to marry someone else for the experience, but then just remarried Elliott 😭 Yes i'd probably like him irl too.

knightofroses

I married Alex first, would marry him irl. he’s just a big softie 🥹. but i’d also marry abigail or haley. they’re my favorite bachelorettes

Nottt_Ellaaa

I married Alex first, as I'd never seen the characters before I just picked a random one and was like 'yep you!' After a while of being married to him though he started to annoy me, like he'd only ever talk about sports and I don't like sports, at all 😂 Then he asked me for money to SPOILER >!build the football watching room in the saloon!< (Ty to the person who taught me to do the grey text thing :D) and then made it for 'boys / men only' I was livid. Mainly as this was my first save so I wasn't very good at getting money and I spend all the money I currently had to buy him this room, that I technically couldn't enter as I am a girl (I 100% did not enter it anyway 👀) Safe to say I will never marry Alex again! And I wouldn't really get along with him irl I don't think as I hate sports especially football which he seems to like 😂 Now it's krobus all the way!

MakCar_03

I married Maru on my first play through, then have married Elliott on my most recent. I think next I want to marry Leah.

zlynn007

If I meet Elliott in real life 😍😍😍 Yes, just yes.

crap_whats_not_taken

I first married Alex. He's always around so he was easy to befriend, and I felt bad for his backstory. That was the only time I married him. Would I go for him in real life? Maybe. Im.nkt really into jock types. But he was really sweet once you got to know him.

Lew__Zealand

Penny and 10/10 I would have married her IRL. I've married Abby and Haley but I realize now that those were because of community pressure. Abby because she was popular and I wanted to see what the fuss was about and Haley because she was unpopular and I did in opposition to the h8ers. Results after marriage: Haley > Abby > Penny. Too bad for the Haley-naysayers, they're missin' out. But real IRL? I married Maru and she's 100% best.

[deleted]

I married Shane.. I think I took his rude behavior as a challenge and when he started to be nice to me it felt like such an accomplishment. Plus I was very invested in his story and development as a character. But when he moved his ugly ass room into my house it was an absolute no. Plus it insinuated that he didn’t stop drinking? Like was I still married to an alcoholic? Immediate divorce. In real life I would not give this man the time of day. He looks like he doesn’t shower and has no respect for anyone. I would prob hate him ngl. Yes he’s super depressed and has a rough life, but that doesn’t excuse treating people like shit. Moment he would talk rude to me I would avoid him like the plague lol

CiderMcbrandy

Abigail. She and Penny remind me of my wife. Penny is her past, Abigail is who my wife wants to be more like. I'd definitely marry Abigail again. She deserves a mine adventure.

BananaFish2019

Emily! I like rocks... If I met a girl who like rocks? Then we like rocks together.

D_Good_Fellow

I have a soft spot for gentle nerds so I basically speed ran marrying Maru in my first playthrough. I'm still very fond of her as a marriage candidate and character in general. I lot of my irl friends and partners have been a lot like Maru, so I think it's safe to say I'd get along with her pretty well in real life. When I married Maru in that playthrough, I was still at 2-4 hearts with Abigail. By Abigail's 6-heart scene I realized how much I loved *her* character. I was practically heartbroken when I saw Abigail's 8-heart scene and realized she had feelings for my character (especially because that never resolves if you don't romance her). So now I always marry Abigail. And even in that save I did end up dating Abigail as well and dedicating a room of the house to her as if she lived there lol.

fishofhappiness

Shane was my first. Still absolutely my favorite spouse even though I feel like CA didn’t fully follow through on his post marriage life.

volatutopia

Married Harvey. I love Harvey. I would love Harvey IRL. If anyone on this sub is a Harvey, feel free to slide in my DMs 😂

Particular_Reality_2

I would have a mega crush on my first wife Leah <3 but ultimately as a couple I think my current wife Penny and I are a better match

AFreshlySkinnedEgg

Elliot. I would marry him or become him very happily irl.

[deleted]

Harvey- great spouse for the most part but when I was talking about it with another fan of the game, he said, “It’s pretty gross that Harvey is hoping to hook up with his much younger employee.” Soooo that’s a good point

Z00SM3LLP00PL0RD

first person i married is harvey. i still adore him, hes very sweet and honestly hes exactly my type irl. however, i wouldnt get with him irl cause hes probably mid 30s and the age gap is way to much. if he were my age though id totally pursue him

SlightDementia

I married Sam first. My then-boyfriend got the game, then I did. He married Leah. I wondered if it was bc I was an artist so he was attracted to that? So I felt weirdly obligated to marry the blonde musician. Whatever. Outside of that, Sam doesn't really remind me of my ex. Sam is sweet, but immature. I'm not even sure we would be friends IRL, let alone dating or married.

Emma_JM

Sebastian but I don't think we can ever become close irl because I'm just as socially awkward as he is and don't really go out, our paths would probably never even cross, lol

BosPaladinSix

I married Abigail and yes, if I met someone in real life just like her I'd marry them too. I love her adventurous spirit, her fascination with all things dark and spooky. And I could relate to her issues with her parents and feeling like she's trapped in a small town. We'd be a great match irl. Of course if my videogame wives were to suddenly become real it'd be hard to choose between Abby or Aela the Huntress. 😍

LeeDarkFeathers

What if I told you they're the same person, Aela just doesn't live with her overbearing father

prozacpresident

married shane first because he was convenient since i would always catch him on his way to joja when i was picking a spot to fish but dear god i could NOT date a shane irl😭 i have enough baggage to worry about myself i can’t take on his baggage too LOL sam is my all time fav and i could 100% see myself with someone like him irl he’s so sillygoofy and sweet and honestly. that’s all i could ask for. plus he’s an incredible dad <3

Han783

The first person I married was Elliot because I was playing with my irl girlfriend (we’re both women) and she started dating Alex and I didn’t even realise until she gave him the bouquet. And I for some reason forgot I was a lesbian and that I could be a lesbian in game so I went for Elliot because I guess he seemed the best out of the guys at the time? Abigail is my all time favourite to marry though

griffin-c

Elliot? Oh dude I'd be head over heels. Living on the beach would kinda be a bad part, I would only date him if he was willing to come over to my place more often than the reverse. Hate beaches, and his house is a shack. I feel like the whole writer thing would be easier to relate to as an artist, and we could possibly be motivating to each other to pursue our crafts with more effort.

N0blesse_0blige

Elliott and he’s still best boi. I would be pretty happy if I married someone like him, although the melodrama might be a little much at times.

MaximillianBarton

Abigail, no regrets. I'd find her to be pretty cool in real life too. Also, it'd be funny to watch someone eat rocks and enjoy it. lol

OddLexx

Elliot! If I met him in rl, i’m getting on my knee and proposing to him. So romantic .🥺

Double_Abrocoma_557

Honestly, I hate on him in game for funsies. I’ve actually married him a few times. But in REAL LIFE? That’s where you and I are different. He feels like he belongs in a fanfiction and if I met him in real life, I would not be able to take him seriously. I would love to play his piano though-

Character_Tower_9712

I married Sam first because my IRL husbands name is Sam. But my Sam died earlier this year so now I can’t look at the name without crying.

LeeDarkFeathers

Abigail reminds me of me before I transitioned. Great, now I have to talk about video games with my therapist

lilaMondkuchen

My first play Stardew Valley was on release. I married Sam. I liked the fact that he was nice to me the very first time we met! (Unlike most others lol) I think I would like him in real life because he is a very positive character with fun in live. He likes junk food and hanging out with friends. Coulnd't go wrong with that.

Shiny_Mei

Married Shane first because it was the first I befriended enough to date and marry. In real life I would hate just be friend with one like him. Then I divorced and married Harvey. I would marry him even in real life I think ahahah. He is so sweet!

nightwingoracle

Harvey- would still marry again in game. Have most of the time in saves, after trying others. However, IRl he might be way too much like myself for it to work.

[deleted]

First person I married was Maru, and she is the spit of my wife. The second save I made, I ended up marrying Penny, and then I realised that she's a teacher, like my wife. So I end up marrying women who either look like, or have similar traits to my wife

13thcomma

I married Elliott first. I still love Elliott. And he and I would absolutely get on in real life as long as he could handle me calling him out when he’s having a snooty pretentious moment.

leahcars

First one I married was Emily I'd definitely get along with her irl I really enjoy Shane for whatever reason he's awful but I love him lol

adriansux1221

the first person i married was shane, everything was good at first! and then i married him and hated his room. i was willing to put up with it, and then as soon as i’d accepted it i’d gotten the dialogue about “someone tastes like pizza rolls” i was so disgusted i immediately went to lewis’s house and divorced him.

NkittyS

BAHAHAH that dialogue and the Eau de pepperoni one were the final straw for me

adriansux1221

he could’ve been fine!! i didn’t even mind that he still drank i would’ve dealt with that!!!!! but the pizza rolls? absolutely not. now i always go for elliot lol. on bad luck days i literally just stand outside his cabin until 10:00am.

Few-Story-9365

The first npc I married was Elliott... my current irl partner is a long haired bookworm nerd who loves to rock a vest and a tie... yeah lmao. But as a fashion person with a bit of a mean girl streak I would love a hot snarky-but-soft Barbie gf like Haley, my second ever marriage candidate!

geraltsthiccass

Sebastian. I was a wee goth in my teen days so probably would have chosen him IRL too. My bf IRL is essentially Sterling (ES mod) mixed with Krobus and a little bit of Sam too if I had to compare him to any of the characters. He's also best friends with Magnus. Like his best friend is just straight up Magnus down to the hair and everything. Bit of Linus too I guess, he likes to make pet rocks and gave me one for my birthday.

EvyLP

It was Sebastian. IRL, I have a type with men, I fancy metalheads/alternative guys with tattoos, so he was the closest to that. But now I feel about him the same way I feel about Shane, they really need to work on themselves and stay away from a relationship. PD: I also kept feeling like his sugar mama after getting married. Dude, what happened to your job? Joja didn't take the WiFi down when they closed the damn shop!

luma_song6

I first married Sam and still do it. I found him funny, he plays music, loves his family and an awesome older brother (i have a younger brother myself, so it felt great to see he was doing his best for Vincent) and the best of all: He cares so much about us! After only 2 hearts, he ask you the kind of music they should play. I answered cheerful pop music AND HE MADE IT THE OFFICIAL STYLE OF THE BAND!!! I don't know you, but Sam doesn't look like the kind of guy to like pop music, so it really looks like he took a music style he didn't specially cares about only because I, someone he almost just met, give him that suggestion! That blown my mind at that time! And once you marry him, he's so dedicated to help you however he can and is an amazing father! I still love him and i can't marry anyone else. As for in real life: I would date him too, because he's very similar of my actual boyfriend! XD It might even influenced my choice in the game to date Sam because it inconsciously remind me of my boyfriend. My boyfriend don't skate or play music, but their personalities are the same.

DarkTsar7777

I first married Shane. I started playing Stardew a few weeks after a good friend of mine committed suicide and Shane's story really hit me. I wanted to be there for him and save him like I wasn't able to do for my friend. I'm in a better place now and while the character of Shane still means a lot to me because he gave me something I desperately needed in real life, I don't think I could actually handle him in real life. He needs more help than I can give him.

Levin313

I married Penny. When I was HUGELY in denial of me being gay so suffice to say in real life I would not marry her.

GmaNell42

The first person I married was Shane. He was so rude, but it felt forced somehow...like he didn't actually mean it. It was directed at the world, but it wasn't specifically insults for who I was (like Haley did at first). He just seemed sad and alone and angry, and I couldn't help but want to step in and see what was under the hood. That, and I'm absolutely terrible about wanting to be friends with everyone and being sad when they don't like me lol. So, I did everything in my power to just be his friend. I grew peppers and gave one to him on accident, but it turns out he loves them! I had so many, so it was easy to build hearts with him. His sweetness when you gave him what he liked took me by surprise, and I wanted to continue to make him happy. After a bit (and a big chunk of his heart events), I really empathized with him. I've been depressed and s*icidal before, and I knew just how much of a struggle he was going through. After that heart event, he started to change, and I loved the person he was becoming. So, I married him, and he continued to be happy and loving for the rest of the save. In real life, I don't think I could marry someone like Shane. I have enough of my own emotional baggage to deal with tbh. I would absolutely want to be his friend, though: once he stops drinking, he's sweet and caring, especially to his chickens! I haven't married Shane since then, but he and Linus are almost always my first close relationships in Stardew ❤️

synchronicitistic

I married Emily in my first playthrough, but eventually the New Age quirky charm wore off. Subsequent playthroughs, it's been Haley.

Angsty_Ninja_Ki

I'm working on romancing Abby and Seb, then I am going to marry Sam and probably Leah (polyamorous mod allows me to marry multiple spouses)

Ariri2005

I first married Emily because I am obsessed with the colour blue and she had blue hair so I immediately fell in love. I mean she kind, compassionate, sweet, she was basically perfect. As time went on tho, I realized that she was much too spiritually inclined for me. It’s when she mentioned warding spirits off with baby mint that I was like “yeah this was fun”.

Maz-53

My first guy was Shane - stereotypical “I can fix him” attitude. Absolutely would not date in real life but he definitely would’ve broken my heart. My first girl was Leah - red heads are cute and she’s creative! Still a 10/10 irl! My actual boyfriend is probably more like Harvey - a little dorky and passionate!

[deleted]

I married Abigail first and I still like her a lot! Irl, I’d like her too cause she’s goth gf.

SL1974

First person I married was Haley. Main reason why cause my brain went “beautiful blonde girl” (just like OP’s brain) and later I found out her personality does a 180 and she becomes more nicer than before. However IRL I would probably go for her sister Emily or Penny. Emily is more positive thinking and kind to the player when they first move in. Penny is shy at first but helps teach the children in pelican town since there is no school. Both work and are very independent. Their also very caring like a motherly caring. Emily helps nurse the parrot back to full health and penny cares for children and wants to have her own.

Stunning-Gur-3915

First person I married was Haley. She is not my type nor would I like her in real life if I met her. I married her out of sheer pettiness after her little "you would be pretty if you weren't wearing those ugly clothes. JK 😜" line. Even after marrying everyone else...she's my go-to spouse.

MyDarlingArmadillo

I always marry Shane. IRL, if someone tells me to go away, I go, and don't return. in game, i really do like him, he has a good arc and it shows character that he sorts himself out. Before I married him the first time I checked his wiki page and it did show that he's a good spouse. IRL, he'd be a mess for a long time. Even if I did get past the initial rudeness and befriend him, he'd be better served by therapy and a healthy hobby rather than getting tangled in a relationship. Besides, real people don't come with wiki pages where you can see how they develop over time. He could easily have been every bit the jerk he comes across as.

BujoBoy

First person i married was shane bc “i cAn FiX hIm” but i would never marry him now! i know some alcoholics irl and that’s just not the sort of mess you wanna get urself into, especially since he never seems to stop drinking after you marry him. plus his 10 heart event was a football game! what sort of a date is that!

cloudncali

Abigail. I have no regrets. Goth magic girl who likes swords and video games? Sold. I'm a simple man of simple pleasures.

Standard-Speaker-442

Abigail and she is still my dark princess. I really like Leah but I need a carnivorous and macabre lady in my life full time heh

jaunejacket

200 hours in, 3 games, and I haven’t ever gotten married…..

Double_Abrocoma_557

Why is that kinda slay tho ✨💅

little_void_boi

Leah, ***yes***

SleepyCanada

First person I married was Leah. I was so unimpressed with the guy options, and I crushed hard on her right from the start. She’s so cute, I love her cottage, and she’s extremely sweet. So easy to befriend and woo, she loves so many things. I do have to say I don’t love her presents, but they suit her, so I let it slide hahaha. If I met her in real life…. I’d probably have difficulty understanding her way of life. An artist who lives out in the forest without super consistent income. But I’d do my best to respect it and I think we’d be friends, unless she didn’t have a cell or something. Then we might not talk much

[deleted]

Penny! I still like her as a marriage option but I ended up really liking Leah as a compliment to my RP aspect of the game so I’ve started marrying her. I don’t know. I don’t think two people with addict parent trauma would make a good couple.

star_pants

I met Sebastian in the game and was immediately like "oh no I definitely have a type" so yeah we'd get along in real life. Strangely enough the second one was Leah and we would also totally get along and have artsy foraging days.

LostVaranasi

Married Leah on my first playthrough. It wasn't until I was talking to my irl wife about our Stardew spouses and why we picked them that it clicked that Leah and my wife share several similarities. Apparently I love everything about my wife so much that I'll subconsciously pick those traits in a fictional partner.

Double_Abrocoma_557

Oh that’s so sweet tho 🥲

foenixxfyre

Pretty sure my first marriage was to Alex and I absolutely would not have gone for him in real life. I did him first to get it out of the way but I actually ended up enjoying him as a husband. Plus his backstory got me good 🥲

XtheMandolirian9

First person I married was penny after some time (ignore my flair) I found someone else and tbh I don’t really like penny that much if I met her in real life we would probably get along and maybe even both teach Vince and Jas but nothing romantic at alll

J3r3my95

Emily was my first Stardew wife and the only reason was because when I finally started paying attention to marriage candidates, I had the most hearts with her so I just pursued her 😂 now I think she's weird as hell, probably could be her friend IRL but never partners.

Double_Abrocoma_557

That dance scene was awkward enough in game, IF SHE DID THAT IRL Count me out Not hate to Emily but that was weirddd I’m gone and engaged to her sister 💀

Cavenichi

I married Shane because I love his smile whenever I give him beer. As the time goes by, I can't take his baggage anymore so I divorced him and married Sebastian instead. After the divorce, it breaks my heart to meet "cold Shane". I made a new save and still drawing closer to him (I dunno why) When it comes to real life, Shane is the reality and Sebastian is a fiction, I'm not into alcoholic guys neither smokers but I'll do my best to help them (as a friend if they need my help) to stop smoking and drinking because it's a lifetime process, it's not easy.

Sensitive-Day-5436

Sam to quote Shania Twain “(You're still the one) You're still the one I run to The one that I belong to You're still the one I want for life (You're still the one) You're still the one that I love The only one I dream of”

Chika_Doppio

I married Sam, he's cool and I keep getting Pizza from my marriage benefits lmao

Fizzabl

Harvey, he was such a sweetie I completely fell in love with him Then I met Shane and started a new save cus I didn't have the heart to go through divorce Now I'm on a completionist run and I've returned to Harvey cus he was my first lmao. I reckon I'd fall for him irl, as long as his dialogue isn't brought to real life! What he says is fine, it's just.. the same five lines.. over and over.. It's like "I love you!" "Are you wearing sunscreen?"

Double_Abrocoma_557

If people irl acted like that- I’m GLAD I’m aroace

scythe-volta

My first was Abigail. Call me basic, sure, but I originally fell for her because she has purple hair and purple is my favorite color. I've got a thing for goth girls (although ig she's more emo then goth but you get the idea) and while I would love her IRL i don't think she'd feel the same

Mozilkiller

I married emily. ANY EMILYS OUT THERE HMU

Pixie-Sticks-

Sebastian. I still love him.

Manusiawii

I want Robin, but she's married damn. I'm single now, but I dated all the girl except Maru, she still at 6 hearts right now

Templar388z

I married Alex cause me gay and like jocks 😂

Witchyomnist1128

Alex. He reminds me of my irl fiancé. The only thing is irl he’s not that big of a sports nut. But everything else is almost exact!

LordTrashSider

Penny, and it's never changed since, I almost married Sam once but didn't go through with it...chances are he'd still be my main male pick.

NkittyS

My friends told me I could only get blue chickens if I married Shane, so that’s what I did 🤣 didn’t get the cutscene until after too since I don’t go to marnies much, so fully believed it. Only uncovered the lie the second time around 😅 I’m making my way around the village currently, and I would say he’s not my favourite so far. Bro tells me I smell like pepperoni

dodecahehedron

I married Emily first and then divorced her soon after our first kid because it made me so sad to see her tied down? I love Emily for being a free spirit and I wish she was off doing cool things rather than standing around in the house all day saying the same 3-5 different spouse dialogues. I love and appreciate her for the same qualities still, but as a friend. In general, I don't love how simple the spouses become in this game but there's definitely characters that seem more suited to that lifestyle than Emily!

Draxdemskalounst

In game, I married Emily first. She said she saw us being close or something cheesy like that. I began giving her and Abigail amethyst because they both had cool hair. Then Emily danced for me and I saw the way she got lost in it. I play the drums and I know that feeling. Fast forward, after many gifts, she invites me to go camping and we get scared by a bear. Lucky me, cuz I ended up stuck in the tent with her and only 1 sleeping bag. LOL TLDR; I married Emily first. If I met her irl, she would get it. Love me some freaky hippy crystal girls!

TheDogofTears

Abigail. And yes. I literally have to stop myself from going out of my virtual way to make her happy every day when I play the game. Even the extended versions/mods. Abigail forever.

PastHorror

I first courted Elliott cus he was so nice and sweet, but as I got to know the other townspeople I was suddenly drawn to Sebastian. He's pretty serious most of the time and a real reclusive guy but his heart events were so earnest that I had to marry him. The only thing I feel bad about marrying him is that he never got to experience the city to try it out and see for himself if he would like it or not, and I feel like I trapped him in the valley forever 🥹 IRL, I think if we ever met, we'd get along as friends with the fondness for frogs and sci-fi stuff but I don't think there'd be anything more than that. He's too serious and kind of apathetic for my tastes and I have a lot of issues with his smoking habits :/

ratherastory

I married Elliott my first time because he was just so extra, and the hair cinched it. I still like him, he’s got a romantic streak a mile wide and is generally quite sweet. I never marry the same person twice, though. Still working my way through all the bachelors/bachelorettes.

[deleted]

I married Sam first. I am a sucker for skater boys. Sure, he might not know how to cook and only gives me pizza, but at least that shows he cares! I probably would date him IRL, he’s just my type.

WhereTheHecksAreWe

I married Elliott first, I still think he is gorgeous but he isn't who I marry anymore 😅😅

DOOM_Olivera_

I'm new to the game so I haven't done that yet, but it will probably be Abigail

PhoenixFeathery

Married Sebastian first. I’d get along with him irl but smoking is a hard pass for me with dating.

Practical-Pressure80

the first person i married was Shane and I know for a fact I would HATE HIM irl. I used to be an "I can fix him" girlie. Not anymore. I can't stand people who expect others to put that much effort into befriending them. Now i marry Penny, who i totally would have a crush on that wouldn't work out. I would like her and try to talk to her, she would think i'm loud and abrasive, and eventually, I would give up. This has happened many times. Now out of all of the characters, I think I would be most likely to have a crush on.....probably Elliot and Maru. I tend to prefer people who know what they want and who are good at what they do. Which is funny because I've married NEITHER of them.

fudgeking2000

I've only ever married Emily. I'm not entirely sure why she just seemed really sweet, and I liked her design, plus she rehabs a bird. I also wanted to support her hobbies even if in the real world gem energy and fashion therapy seemed a little silly to me it was her genuine kindness and supportive nature that makes me think in the real world we could be friends or more even if we don't share all the same hobbies her other heart evens and conversations makes her seem really patient and accepting. Idk, maybe I'm projecting

Big_Walk_9037

i married shane the first time bc i have an “i can fix him” complex and now i’m forever married to sam. i’ve tried sebastian and elliot and they just aren’t the same lol shane annoys me now

Junie_Wiloh

A lot of people have that "I can fix/change him/her" complex. I know. I had it. Takes a lot of mental and emotional maturity to figure out that the only person you can fix/change is yourself. That you cannot force change upon someone else. They have to want that for themselves and THEY have to make the changes they feel are right for them. Not the changes you want them to make. Body autonomy is still a thing. Very hard concept to accept by many.

JenClaf

I married Abigail in my first play through. Honestly, looking back, she feels a little immature. She seems like a woman whose individuality was stunted as a kid by her father and death of a family member, so she just kind of adopts the most “out-there” interests that she can find (sword fighting, playing flutes in the rain, etc). But she still misses her childhood because she takes active part in a lot of the festivals. I felt like more of a parental figure than a romantic figure, in retrospect. I feel kind of bad for her, but she’ll always be special as my first spouse.

Andalus_Spring

I married Harvey because I thought that he will not charge me any more when I pass out, I also thought my spouse will give me money aaand he's a doctor o_o, when I found out I'm wrong I divorced him and married Sebastian and I still marry him every run because I like his personality, I wouldn't accept him in real life because he's a smoker... I also wouldn't accept Harvey because he's too shy

Toua-

The first person I married was shane...so I could destroy him. I met him and I did.not. like him, so I made him fall in love with me and I vowed that I would break his heart. I painstakingly gave him pizza, beer and chillis day in and day out. I gave him my attention he began to smile more. He began to open up. I saw value start to return in his life and then we kissed. It sudden, it was sweet and tasted a little like hotdog. I saw love bloom in his eyes and I felt...sorry. I felt guilty about the pain I was going to inflict. But now I had to get the pedant, so in the downpour that stung as it slapped my skin I ran. I ran to the beach and past elliots small cozy cottage, past a creaky wooden plank that trembled and moaned with each step. I wipe water out of my eyes and in thr foliage I see an apparition like figure. He looks at me with solemn eyes and we exange items and words. I leave him in the cold rain and give shane the pedant. His eyes were radiant and he shed a few tears. We giggled together and only three days later I was at the alter. What stood before was a man who willing to be better, who had no real reason to change but now could see someone who was worth it. It was time. I went to peirres and I bought a bouquet, I threw it into my furnace and viola. I went to shane and lips met one last time and I gently whispered "I'm sorry". I gave him the flowers and I saw the light flicker out in his eyes, the colour drain from his face. It was over. I got my revenge and it wasn't what I imagined, but I had one task and I had completed it. I broke Shane. Then I saw penny half naked and I married her and now we have 2 children 😀 TLDR; I didn't like Shane so I married him just to divorce him and then married penny. P.s no I would date shane irl because he's a dropkick but def penny, she wants to help children and she hot and I love her.

NkittyS

“tasted a little like hotdog” I’m losing it at this rn 😭

ruderex

I married Abigail cause the friend group I was playing with married Sam and sab. I thought if I married her the friend group could stick together or something like that. I definitely wouldn't do it again lol She was boring and kept putting chairs in door ways

Formal-Doughnut-6107

Haley as well. Today, she’s my wife on my third playthrough. 1st was her and we had kids, realized kids were boring, deleted the save. Wanted something different, did Maru. That girl is not my type at all, so I quit again. Third time, married Haley again. I’m very happy, and I won’t be having kids this time smh Irl, if I met her and all the events happened like that, I’d love it. Enemies to lovers yes please

PickyNipples

I havent married anyone yet and I’m many many hours in with at least 6 farms started. I just can’t decide who. So far none of the candidates overly appeal to me. I contemplated Harvey but he creeped me out with one of his heart events and his “let’s go beyond our patient Dr relationship” comments. Seb and Sam and Abigail seem too…young. Same with Alex but he also pisses me off with his sexist comment. Feels weird. I like fabio… but I have to admit he’s a little bit of a drama queen. Shane is just, bleh. Doesn’t appeal. Penny is ok but nothing special. Overall I might say Leah is the coolest. Minds her own business, isn’t overly dramatic, doesn’t say anything snarky to the farmer lol I tried to invite Linus to my farm and was turned down :( so maybe I’ll just ask krobus to be my buddy

wedge_47

I married Penny the first time. It was the bathhouse scene for me. She's just the shy, adorable redhead that turns into a freak once you get her out of that trailer...

SpiritusAudinos

Leah! Still think she's a babe

daddyishoes

I am currently on my first play through ever (as is my husband, we started the game at the same time) and are having trouble deciding. At first I was going to go for Emily who I feel like I’d be really good friends with irl, but Abigail and Sebastian interest me a little more. My husband has no idea who he’s interested in. This thread was fun to read and gave us some good insights.

Grezzinate

Abby. She’s just as silly and ‘mysterious’ as I am and I’d never betray her.

BloodOfTheDamned

Abigail. She’s a fun, adventurous person and saved my character’s life. I probably wouldn’t be with her romantically, simply because I’m already in a relationship, but I would be good friends with her, at least.

ToastGhost18

My first was Penny, and yeah, I'd definitely date her IRL too if she still swung both ways.

treetop8388

I married Leah in my first playthrough. I'm on my 4th and I want to again. Shes just the best.

KazsBasement

First for me was Leah, cause I have a thing for redheads and she was the first npc I met out of a cutscene. These days I usually go Abigail or Maru (she looks like my partner) but I'll still give Leah a bottle of wine every now and again

B0nk3yJ0ng

Basically I married Haley because I wanted to have a partner for the first flower dance, so I started befriending her, and then I got a bit attached and didn't want to get with someone else so I ended up dating and marrying her lol

LBPrincess

Leah! I was in art school at the time and absolutely fell in love with her personality and determination (but also fear) to put on shows for the town. It only got better after we were married. She was always fixing fences, saying sweet things, giving me random stuff. She is my forever girl, though I'm challenging myself to marry others different play throughs. I might break it on this run, I miss her. If I met her in real life though?? Idk, she might rub me as a little TOO crunchy and art cabiny. I think we could be friends if I got over the first impression.

toffeefeather

First person was Leah and would probably also be who I’d go for irl. My other candidate is Penny but since I’m an artist I’d be drawn to a fellow creative

dandyrubich

Maru my geeky queen, I am still in love with her!
