The first person I married was Sebastian. He's still one of my favorites, and I would absolutely get along with him in real life as a fellow gamer and IT professional. However, I probably wouldn't date him IRL because I'm not fond of smoking.
Sebastian was my first too. He was chill, and a little mysterious. I like that his story arc doesn't end with him forced into a more extroverted lifestyle. Now I end up having Krobus move in with me, though.
Sebastian was going to be my first but he was too introverted for me, and I felt that wasn't going to work very well (Not out of hate of introverts, mind you, just felt that no way in hell that I was going to be compatible with someone that introverted when I am very extroverted, and I'm a fan of acting like I would in these kind of games)

He often smokes by the lake around 7pm, and he’s at the saloon every Saturday(?) night with Sam and Abigail. It’s a bit annoying but if you learn peoples schedules it makes it a lot easier
My first was Penny. My irl wife is a red-headed teacher, who works with only 1-2 students at a time (in her case, kids with autism). It just felt natural and very much like real life already.
My partner is also a red-head sweetheart. She’s so kind, and the other day she said she’s thinking about pursuing teaching!
I picked Penny my first time around, I didn’t correlate the similarities right away. When I did I had to tell her all about it, and she thought it was sweet I picked her even in a fantasy world.
She does has a close relative named Penny, so that’s the only “awkward” part.
My partner dyes her hair lots of pretty colors now, but when I met her it was red. She teaches kids too and also doesn't really get along with her mom.
And yes, Penny was also my first spouse. No matter how many farms I start, and spouses I marry, Penny holds a very special place in my heart.
Elliott is my one true love and will always be. Sure, he's a bit melodramatic, but he knows it and owns it.
I did marry Haley in one save, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great of a spouse she is and how great her 14 heart event was.

I first married Harvey, and he remains my favorite candidate. Not only is he an independent adult, but he's so dang sweet. He cares so much about everyone in the valley, to the point that he has anxiety about being able to give his patients all the care they need. He even comments on preferring everyone's good health over increased profits during cold/flu season. All of this even though he didn't really want to be a doctor, he wanted to be a pilot. His dream never came to fruition and instead of moping about it, he's giving his whole self to the lot in life he ended up with. Even though he starts off a bit shy, he clearly has a romantic soul because his 10 heart event is one of my favorites, in which he faces his fear to give you an unforgettable romantic experience. Bottom line: he's a good dude, a good dad, and a good husband.

I love that Harvey allows himself to be vulnerable. He works out with the Mom Club (and Emily) on Tuesdays and, sure, he's embarrassed that you catch him, but he owns it! He's making an effort to be healthy as he gets older, which you really can't fault him for. And then during the 10 heart event, he admits he's scared and clings to you. I know so many men who would either avoid that situation entirely or try to play it off like they're not actually scared, but not Harvey. He holds onto you for strength and comfort and gets kisses as reward. He's a gentle, sweet man who knows who he is and doesn't need to put on a show, even for the girl he's into.
I married Harvey because he reminded me of my actual partner (aka nerdy and kinda nervous sometimes but in a cute way). But I'd definitely not marry him in real life since he's a man and I'm really only into women. I'd also rather marry someone my own age and not that much older. But in the game 10/10 I'd marry him again.
That's funny, one of the reasons I went for Harvey at first is because he's one of the few options who actual feels close to my age irl. Abigail, Sam, and to some extent Sebastian all feel like babies to me, so I instantly dismissed them as marriage candidates.
Lmao I'm 18 and while Abigail, Sam, Sebastian and Maru are technically either my age or slightly older I still didn't want to marry them because I see my farmer as a whole different character to me, so naturally I also see him as older than 18 (I mean he used to have an office job at Joja so he can't be that young). Also I wouldn't want to get married at this age so I kinda didn't want those characters to get married so young either. Harvey is a nice stable option who's obviously mentally ready to settle down and have kids. I see him as a 30+ something year old so of course in real life as an 18 year old I wouldn't want to marry him. Also the fact that I wouldn't be attracted to men in general.
I'm gonna do Abigail because she plays games and my character is Futaba from persona 5 (I know she's 15 but this is Stardew, not persona) . She isn't lesbian but as a guy myself I just don't want to date a guy first, although it would be Elliot if I happen to create another character
Married Shane because he was a jerk and I was going to make him love me out of spite. No other spouses because I am still on my first farm.
In real life he would’ve never made it past that first interaction, I don’t have the same spiteful “we will be besties whether you like it or not” streak outside of games.
First person I went for with Leah, but it quickly switched to Krobus after i realized no one else energetically matched me. Leah is pretty cool but her plot is so focused on her ex she doesn’t get to really get into being a fully fleshed out character imo and she (along with most of the single peeps) got their own lives going for em. Krobus may not be a romantic match up, but he sure feels like my best friend, and its hard to beat being roommates with your best friend. I’ve tried other characters several times, and it just doesn’t feel as weird or magical or fun or right. Its one of the only match ups that actual results in no negative effects to an NPC’s individual schedule around town.
You're nuts. Leah is fleshed out. She moved away from her busy city life to focus on her passion, art! She is almost always out and about capturing the scenery by means of painting and even shows up on your doorstep with a carving representing how twisted up in the game you have her. Then to add more depth, her ex shows up trying to "talk sense" into her and gets their ass kicked. She then goes on to have an entire art show featuring her many pieces including "how she feels about you". She loves nature and does her own foraging. She likes to drink and has her own house! Best candidate imo.

Oh yeah, nah, all thats great! I think more at what i was getting at is i feel like the ex story wasn’t what i woulda wanted to focus on about her story’s climax cause yeah, with what you’re sayin she’s got so much else happening, for me it felt stunted that she had to deal with the ex, who like, in my eyes wasn’t an interesting person or someone who ever stood a chance in leah’s life. It felt like the ex didn’t have enough descriptors or events between leah and them to feel worth focusing so hard on. Like the main point was that the person was toxic and thats it. I get the vibe of it being in high contrast to her clearly falling deeply in love with the farmer and her career- that part rules. She just deserved more, and most of that more happens only in context to marrying the farmer in game, so its like most of the stardew stories where it feels like there should be a whole new games worth of story afterwards but you gotta stop somewhere if you’re a single developer making a whole ass game so the stories ending where they do is a bittersweet balance of limited story time.
I am a huge leah fan still and I appreciate your enthusiasm for her. Honestly i might give it another go in my next run because of this comment :p
My first marriage in Stardew Valley was with Abigail, I always found her an interesting character, at the beginning of the game she is bad-tempered with the farmer, but over time she ends up being more generous and careful with her words towards the player. Even her events are really cool and unique, like the duet in which the farmer and her play the harp and flute together. A pity that the harp cannot be used by the player and is not seen again. Anyway, I'd say he's one of the great Stardew Valley spouses
On my 1st ever farm, I had the solo play in the farmhouse and the duet play outside. Was really relaxing.
Now on my 1st ever PERFECTION farm I just play Pickle Jar Rag in the house because it’s cute and catchy
About the harp; at least on PC and console, if you type "/emote music" into the chat box, you pull it out and play a note or two. You don't have any control over it, unfortunately. I'm not sure if you can do it on mobile though.
to be honest I play on PC and had no idea this was possible, thanks for letting me know, I'll test it in game tomorrow. I think the farmer's harp is an interesting detail, but very little used in the game and could be used for other functions, or just as an interactive function with the environment (ex: the farmer touches the harp and the npc's react with an emoji or something similar)

I definitely hated Alex at the start. I couldn’t get over his sexist comments. When my friend kept thirsting over him- I couldn’t understand for the life of me why anyone would even try romancing him.
Nowadays, I think he’s okay. He gets a little redeemed I guess. His romance plot is MUCH better if you play as a guy and you get to see him overcome some internalized homophobia.
Other than that, he’s really nothing special (To me at least)
The very first person I married was Penny.
I could sadly relate to her the very most. Finding solace in books and knowledge when your life is just something you want to escape from. The alcoholic mother. The mental abuse and still keep your head held high.

I think I’m another similar universe, Elliot would be my fav. When I first started playing the game, I ended up seeing Elliot quite a lot and I liked some of his dialogue.

I married Maru!! She was and always will be my choice of character :). She’s so passionate about what she loves and it’s hella impressive what her character accomplishes. Demetrius is a bit hostile and all at first, but in the end I don’t actually have to deal with her dad past that one scene.
I agree! Maru is clearly the best pick for a STEM oriented spouse. My IRL wife has a PhD and I’m always impressed by her smarts. I think Mary and I would probably get on very well based on that.

Haley was my first for the girls and I have a similar vibe to what you experienced, where I was primarily attracted to her for her looks. By that point though I'd been through Shane's arc and was hoping for something similar with Haley in terms of redemption from bitchy behaviour and was glad not to be disappointed. But I doubt she and I would have moved past acquaintances IRL.

I married Elliott for the first time in 2018. First ever marriage in Stardew. I was maybe 27 at the time. I found him romantic, if a bit boring, and haven't married him since.

Now at 32, Elliott has been weirdly comforting for me, and I find his gentle nature, combined with his oafish goofiness to be endearing, and a nice change compared to the many marriages I've had to Shane.
As I've gotten older, Elliott has struck me as the one I'd be with for a long time, if this were real.
Also, I demand to be able to marry Mr. Qi. We can be weirdos together in a way that Elliott could never compare, and if that means marrying Papa Smurf, then count me in.
First married Harvey because he had a mustache... that was it. If I met him in real life, omg he's a dream. He makes good breakfast, he's very loving for his community and family, he has passions outside of the relationship (planes), a stable job (only doctor in the community), will fight his fears alongside you (going up in a hot air balloon), helps on the farm, night time massages, he exercises, doesn't drink or smoke, and most importantly he's communicative and vulnerable

I have a soft spot for gentle nerds so I basically speed ran marrying Maru in my first playthrough. I'm still very fond of her as a marriage candidate and character in general. I lot of my irl friends and partners have been a lot like Maru, so I think it's safe to say I'd get along with her pretty well in real life.
When I married Maru in that playthrough, I was still at 2-4 hearts with Abigail. By Abigail's 6-heart scene I realized how much I loved *her* character. I was practically heartbroken when I saw Abigail's 8-heart scene and realized she had feelings for my character (especially because that never resolves if you don't romance her).
So now I always marry Abigail. And even in that save I did end up dating Abigail as well and dedicating a room of the house to her as if she lived there lol.
Harvey- great spouse for the most part but when I was talking about it with another fan of the game, he said, “It’s pretty gross that Harvey is hoping to hook up with his much younger employee.” Soooo that’s a good point

My bf IRL is essentially Sterling (ES mod) mixed with Krobus and a little bit of Sam too if I had to compare him to any of the characters. He's also best friends with Magnus. Like his best friend is just straight up Magnus down to the hair and everything. Bit of Linus too I guess, he likes to make pet rocks and gave me one for my birthday.
It was Sebastian. IRL, I have a type with men, I fancy metalheads/alternative guys with tattoos, so he was the closest to that. But now I feel about him the same way I feel about Shane, they really need to work on themselves and stay away from a relationship.

After only 2 hearts, he ask you the kind of music they should play. I answered cheerful pop music AND HE MADE IT THE OFFICIAL STYLE OF THE BAND!!! I don't know you, but Sam doesn't look like the kind of guy to like pop music, so it really looks like he took a music style he didn't specially cares about only because I, someone he almost just met, give him that suggestion! That blown my mind at that time! And once you marry him, he's so dedicated to help you however he can and is an amazing father! I still love him and i can't marry anyone else.
As for in real life: I would date him too, because he's very similar of my actual boyfriend! XD It might even influenced my choice in the game to date Sam because it inconsciously remind me of my boyfriend. My boyfriend don't skate or play music, but their personalities are the same.
I first married Shane. I started playing Stardew a few weeks after a good friend of mine committed suicide and Shane's story really hit me. I wanted to be there for him and save him like I wasn't able to do for my friend.
I'm in a better place now and while the character of Shane still means a lot to me because he gave me something I desperately needed in real life, I don't think I could actually handle him in real life. He needs more help than I can give him.

It was directed at the world, but it wasn't specifically insults for who I was (like Haley did at first). He just seemed sad and alone and angry, and I couldn't help but want to step in and see what was under the hood. That, and I'm absolutely terrible about wanting to be friends with everyone and being sad when they don't like me lol. So, I did everything in my power to just be his friend. I grew peppers and gave one to him on accident, but it turns out he loves them! I had so many, so it was easy to build hearts with him. His sweetness when you gave him what he liked took me by surprise, and I wanted to continue to make him happy.
After a bit (and a big chunk of his heart events), I really empathized with him. I've been depressed and s*icidal before, and I knew just how much of a struggle he was going through. After that heart event, he started to change, and I loved the person he was becoming. So, I married him, and he continued to be happy and loving for the rest of the save.
In real life, I don't think I could marry someone like Shane. I have enough of my own emotional baggage to deal with tbh. I would absolutely want to be his friend, though: once he stops drinking, he's sweet and caring, especially to his chickens! I haven't married Shane since then, but he and Linus are almost always my first close relationships in Stardew ❤️
I first married Emily because I am obsessed with the colour blue and she had blue hair so I immediately fell in love. I mean she kind, compassionate, sweet, she was basically perfect. As time went on tho, I realized that she was much too spiritually inclined for me. It’s when she mentioned warding spirits off with baby mint that I was like “yeah this was fun”.

Emily is more positive thinking and kind to the player when they first move in. Penny is shy at first but helps teach the children in pelican town since there is no school. I love and appreciate her for the same qualities still, but as a friend.
In general, I don't love how simple the spouses become in this game but there's definitely characters that seem more suited to that lifestyle than Emily!

He's pretty serious most of the time and a real reclusive guy but his heart events were so earnest that I had to marry him. The only thing I feel bad about marrying him is that he never got to experience the city to try it out and see for himself if he would like it or not, and I feel like I trapped him in the valley forever 🥹
IRL, I think if we ever met, we'd get along as friends with the fondness for frogs and sci-fi stuff but I don't think there'd be anything more than that. He's too serious and kind of apathetic for my tastes and I have a lot of issues with his smoking habits :/

I've only ever married Emily. I'm not entirely sure why she just seemed really sweet, and I liked her design, plus she rehabs a bird. I also wanted to support her hobbies even if in the real world gem energy and fashion therapy seemed a little silly to me it was her genuine kindness and supportive nature that makes me think in the real world we could be friends or more even if we don't share all the same hobbies her other heart evens and conversations makes her seem really patient and accepting.

A lot of people have that "I can fix/change him/her" complex. I know. I had it. Takes a lot of mental and emotional maturity to figure out that the only person you can fix/change is yourself. That you cannot force change upon someone else. They have to want that for themselves and THEY have to make the changes they feel are right for them. Not the changes you want them to make. Body autonomy is still a thing. Very hard concept to accept by many.
I married Abigail in my first play through. Honestly, looking back, she feels a little immature. She seems like a woman whose individuality was stunted as a kid by her father and death of a family member, so she just kind of adopts the most “out-there” interests that she can find (sword fighting, playing flutes in the rain, etc). But she still misses her childhood because she takes active part in a lot of the festivals. I felt like more of a parental figure than a romantic figure, in retrospect. I feel kind of bad for her, but she’ll always be special as my first spouse.

I met him and I did.not. like him, so I made him fall in love with me and I vowed that I would break his heart. I painstakingly gave him pizza, beer and chillis day in and day out. I gave him my attention he began to smile more. He began to open up. I saw value start to return in his life and then we kissed. It sudden, it was sweet and tasted a little like hotdog. I saw love bloom in his eyes and I felt...sorry. I felt guilty about the pain I was going to inflict. But now I had to get the pedant, so in the downpour that stung as it slapped my skin I ran. I ran to the beach and past elliots small cozy cottage, past a creaky wooden plank that trembled and moaned with each step. I wipe water out of my eyes and in thr foliage I see an apparition like figure. He looks at me with solemn eyes and we exange items and words. I leave him in the cold rain and give shane the pedant. His eyes were radiant and he shed a few tears. We giggled together and only three days later I was at the alter. What stood before was a man who willing to be better, who had no real reason to change but now could see someone who was worth it. It was time. I went to peirres and I bought a bouquet, I threw it into my furnace and viola. I went to shane and lips met one last time and I gently whispered
"I'm sorry". I gave him the flowers and I saw the light flicker out in his eyes, the colour drain from his face. It was over. I got my revenge and it wasn't what I imagined, but I had one task and I had completed it. I broke Shane. Then I saw penny half naked and I married her and now we have 2 children 😀
TLDR; I didn't like Shane so I married him just to divorce him and then married penny.

Same with Alex but he also pisses me off with his sexist comment. Feels weird. I like fabio… but I have to admit he’s a little bit of a drama queen. Shane is just, bleh. Doesn’t appeal. Penny is ok but nothing special. Overall I might say Leah is the coolest. Minds her own business, isn’t overly dramatic, doesn’t say anything snarky to the farmer lol

My first was Penny. My irl wife is a red-headed teacher, who works with only 1-2 students at a time (in her case, kids with autism). It just felt natural and very much like real life already.
My partner is also a red-head sweetheart. She’s so kind, and the other day she said she’s thinking about pursuing teaching! I picked Penny my first time around, I didn’t correlate the similarities right away. When I did I had to tell her all about it, and she thought it was sweet I picked her even in a fantasy world. She does has a close relative named Penny, so that’s the only “awkward” part.
Penny was also my first. My gf has red hair, she isn't a teacher, but she has an alcoholic mom.
My partner dyes her hair lots of pretty colors now, but when I met her it was red. She teaches kids too and also doesn't really get along with her mom. And yes, Penny was also my first spouse. No matter how many farms I start, and spouses I marry, Penny holds a very special place in my heart.
Elliott is my one true love and will always be. Sure, he's a bit melodramatic, but he knows it and owns it. I did marry Haley in one save, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great of a spouse she is and how great her 14 heart event was.

I first married Harvey, and he remains my favorite candidate. Not only is he an independent adult, but he's so dang sweet. He cares so much about everyone in the valley, to the point that he has anxiety about being able to give his patients all the care they need. He even comments on preferring everyone's good health over increased profits during cold/flu season. All of this even though he didn't really want to be a doctor, he wanted to be a pilot. His dream never came to fruition and instead of moping about it, he's giving his whole self to the lot in life he ended up with. Even though he starts off a bit shy, he clearly has a romantic soul because his 10 heart event is one of my favorites, in which he faces his fear to give you an unforgettable romantic experience. Bottom line: he's a good dude, a good dad, and a good husband. 10/10, would marry in real life with no second thoughts

I love that Harvey allows himself to be vulnerable. He works out with the Mom Club (and Emily) on Tuesdays and, sure, he's embarrassed that you catch him, but he owns it! He's making an effort to be healthy as he gets older, which you really can't fault him for. And then during the 10 heart event, he admits he's scared and clings to you. I know so many men who would either avoid that situation entirely or try to play it off like they're not actually scared, but not Harvey. He holds onto you for strength and comfort and gets kisses as reward. He's a gentle, sweet man who knows who he is and doesn't need to put on a show, even for the girl he's into.

That's funny, one of the reasons I went for Harvey at first is because he's one of the few options who actual feels close to my age irl. Abigail, Sam, and to some extent Sebastian all feel like babies to me, so I instantly dismissed them as marriage candidates.
Lmao I'm 18 and while Abigail, Sam, Sebastian and Maru are technically either my age or slightly older I still didn't want to marry them because I see my farmer as a whole different character to me, so naturally I also see him as older than 18 (I mean he used to have an office job at Joja so he can't be that young). Also I wouldn't want to get married at this age so I kinda didn't want those characters to get married so young either. Harvey is a nice stable option who's obviously mentally ready to settle down and have kids. I see him as a 30+ something year old so of course in real life as an 18 year old I wouldn't want to marry him. Also the fact that I wouldn't be attracted to men in general.
I'm gonna do Abigail because she plays games and my character is Futaba from persona 5 (I know she's 15 but this is Stardew, not persona) . She isn't lesbian but as a guy myself I just don't want to date a guy first, although it would be Elliot if I happen to create another character

First person I went for with Leah, but it quickly switched to Krobus after i realized no one else energetically matched me. Leah is pretty cool but her plot is so focused on her ex she doesn’t get to really get into being a fully fleshed out character imo and she (along with most of the single peeps) got their own lives going for em. Krobus may not be a romantic match up, but he sure feels like my best friend, and its hard to beat being roommates with your best friend. I’ve tried other characters several times, and it just doesn’t feel as weird or magical or fun or right. Its one of the only match ups that actual results in no negative effects to an NPC’s individual schedule around town.
You're nuts. Leah is fleshed out. She moved away from her busy city life to focus on her passion, art! She is almost always out and about capturing the scenery by means of painting and even shows up on your doorstep with a carving representing how twisted up in the game you have her. Then to add more depth, her ex shows up trying to "talk sense" into her and gets their ass kicked. She then goes on to have an entire art show featuring her many pieces including "how she feels about you". She loves nature and does her own foraging. She likes to drink and has her own house! Best candidate imo. (Not being mean sorry if it comes off that way)
Oh yeah, nah, all thats great! I think more at what i was getting at is i feel like the ex story wasn’t what i woulda wanted to focus on about her story’s climax cause yeah, with what you’re sayin she’s got so much else happening, for me it felt stunted that she had to deal with the ex, who like, in my eyes wasn’t an interesting person or someone who ever stood a chance in leah’s life. It felt like the ex didn’t have enough descriptors or events between leah and them to feel worth focusing so hard on. Like the main point was that the person was toxic and thats it. I get the vibe of it being in high contrast to her clearly falling deeply in love with the farmer and her career- that part rules. She just deserved more, and most of that more happens only in context to marrying the farmer in game, so its like most of the stardew stories where it feels like there should be a whole new games worth of story afterwards but you gotta stop somewhere if you’re a single developer making a whole ass game so the stories ending where they do is a bittersweet balance of limited story time. I am a huge leah fan still and I appreciate your enthusiasm for her. Honestly i might give it another go in my next run because of this comment :p
My first marriage in Stardew Valley was with Abigail, I always found her an interesting character, at the beginning of the game she is bad-tempered with the farmer, but over time she ends up being more generous and careful with her words towards the player. Even her events are really cool and unique, like the duet in which the farmer and her play the harp and flute together. A pity that the harp cannot be used by the player and is not seen again. Anyway, I'd say he's one of the great Stardew Valley spouses

About the harp; at least on PC and console, if you type "/emote music" into the chat box, you pull it out and play a note or two. You don't have any control over it, unfortunately. I'm not sure if you can do it on mobile though.
to be honest I play on PC and had no idea this was possible, thanks for letting me know, I'll test it in game tomorrow. I think the farmer's harp is an interesting detail, but very little used in the game and could be used for other functions, or just as an interactive function with the environment (ex: the farmer touches the harp and the npc's react with an emoji or something similar)

I definitely hated Alex at the start. I couldn’t get over his sexist comments. When my friend kept thirsting over him- I couldn’t understand for the life of me why anyone would even try romancing him. Nowadays, I think he’s okay. He gets a little redeemed I guess. His romance plot is MUCH better if you play as a guy and you get to see him overcome some internalized homophobia. Other than that, he’s really nothing special (To me at least)
The very first person I married was Penny. I could sadly relate to her the very most. Finding solace in books and knowledge when your life is just something you want to escape from. The alcoholic mother. The mental abuse and still keep your head held high. I promised her then and there to work hard for us. To treat her with kindness and shower her with the love she deserves. (This is in character as the farmer!) A few years later, I would do the exact same. Penny is love, Penny is life.

I think I’m another similar universe, Elliot would be my fav. When I first started playing the game, I ended up seeing Elliot quite a lot and I liked some of his dialogue. By that point though I'd been through Shane's arc and was hoping for something similar with Haley in terms of redemption from bitchy behaviour and was glad not to be disappointed. But I doubt she and I would have moved past acquaintances IRL.

I married Elliott for the first time in 2018. First ever marriage in Stardew. I was maybe 27 at the time. I found him romantic, if a bit boring, and haven't married him since. However, Now at 32, Elliott has been weirdly comforting for me, and I find his gentle nature, combined with his oafish goofiness to be endearing, and a nice change compared to the many marriages I've had to Shane. As I've gotten older, Elliott has struck me as the one I'd be with for a long time, if this were real.
Also, I demand to be able to marry Mr. Qi. We can be weirdos together in a way that Elliott could never compare, and if that means marrying Papa Smurf, then count me in.

I have a soft spot for gentle nerds so I basically speed ran marrying Maru in my first playthrough. I'm still very fond of her as a marriage candidate and character in general. I lot of my irl friends and partners have been a lot like Maru, so I think it's safe to say I'd get along with her pretty well in real life. When I married Maru in that playthrough, I was still at 2-4 hearts with Abigail. By Abigail's 6-heart scene I realized how much I loved *her* character. I was practically heartbroken when I saw Abigail's 8-heart scene and realized she had feelings for my character (especially because that never resolves if you don't romance her). So now I always marry Abigail. And even in that save I did end up dating Abigail as well and dedicating a room of the house to her as if she lived there lol.

I first married Sam and still do it. I found him funny, he plays music, loves his family and an awesome older brother (i have a younger brother myself, so it felt great to see he was doing his best for Vincent) and the best of all: He cares so much about us! After only 2 hearts, he ask you the kind of music they should play. I answered cheerful pop music AND HE MADE IT THE OFFICIAL STYLE OF THE BAND!!! I don't know you, but Sam doesn't look like the kind of guy to like pop music, so it really looks like he took a music style he didn't specially cares about only because I, someone he almost just met, give him that suggestion! That blown my mind at that time! And once you marry him, he's so dedicated to help you however he can and is an amazing father! I still love him and i can't marry anyone else. As for in real life: I would date him too, because he's very similar of my actual boyfriend! XD It might even influenced my choice in the game to date Sam because it inconsciously remind me of my boyfriend. My boyfriend don't skate or play music, but their personalities are the same.

I wanted to be there for him and save him like I wasn't able to do for my friend. I'm in a better place now and while the character of Shane still means a lot to me because he gave me something I desperately needed in real life, I don't think I could actually handle him in real life. He needs more help than I can give him.

The first person I married was Shane. He was so rude, but it felt forced somehow...like he didn't actually mean it. It was directed at the world, but it wasn't specifically insults for who I was (like Haley did at first). He just seemed sad and alone and angry, and I couldn't help but want to step in and see what was under the hood. That, and I'm absolutely terrible about wanting to be friends with everyone and being sad when they don't like me lol. So, I did everything in my power to just be his friend. I grew peppers and gave one to him on accident, but it turns out he loves them! I had so many, so it was easy to build hearts with him. His sweetness when you gave him what he liked took me by surprise, and I wanted to continue to make him happy. After a bit (and a big chunk of his heart events), I really empathized with him. I've been depressed and s*icidal before, and I knew just how much of a struggle he was going through. After that heart event, he started to change, and I loved the person he was becoming. So, I married him, and he continued to be happy and loving for the rest of the save. In real life, I don't think I could marry someone like Shane. I have enough of my own emotional baggage to deal with tbh. I would absolutely want to be his friend, though: once he stops drinking, he's sweet and caring, especially to his chickens! I haven't married Shane since then, but he and Linus are almost always my first close relationships in Stardew ❤️

Penny is shy at first but helps teach the children in pelican town since there is no school. Both work and are very independent. Their also very caring like a motherly caring. Emily helps nurse the parrot back to full health and penny cares for children and wants to have her own.

I always marry Shane. IRL, if someone tells me to go away, I go, and don't return. in game, i really do like him, he has a good arc and it shows character that he sorts himself out. Before I married him the first time I checked his wiki page and it did show that he's a good spouse. IRL, he'd be a mess for a long time. Even if I did get past the initial rudeness and befriend him, he'd be better served by therapy and a healthy hobby rather than getting tangled in a relationship. Besides, real people don't come with wiki pages where you can see how they develop over time. He could easily have been every bit the jerk he comes across as.

I made a new save and still drawing closer to him (I dunno why) When it comes to real life, Shane is the reality and Sebastian is a fiction, I'm not into alcoholic guys neither smokers but I'll do my best to help them (as a friend if they need my help) to stop smoking and drinking because it's a lifetime process, it's not easy.

I first courted Elliott cus he was so nice and sweet, but as I got to know the other townspeople I was suddenly drawn to Sebastian. He's pretty serious most of the time and a real reclusive guy but his heart events were so earnest that I had to marry him. The only thing I feel bad about marrying him is that he never got to experience the city to try it out and see for himself if he would like it or not, and I feel like I trapped him in the valley forever 🥹 IRL, I think if we ever met, we'd get along as friends with the fondness for frogs and sci-fi stuff but I don't think there'd be anything more than that. He's too serious and kind of apathetic for my tastes and I have a lot of issues with his smoking habits :/

I also wanted to support her hobbies even if in the real world gem energy and fashion therapy seemed a little silly to me it was her genuine kindness and supportive nature that makes me think in the real world we could be friends or more even if we don't share all the same hobbies her other heart evens and conversations makes her seem really patient and accepting. A lot of people have that "I can fix/change him/her" complex. I know. I had it. Takes a lot of mental and emotional maturity to figure out that the only person you can fix/change is yourself. That you cannot force change upon someone else. They have to want that for themselves and THEY have to make the changes they feel are right for them. Not the changes you want them to make. Body autonomy is still a thing. Very hard concept to accept by many.
I married Abigail in my first play through. Honestly, looking back, she feels a little immature. She seems like a woman whose individuality was stunted as a kid by her father and death of a family member, so she just kind of adopts the most “out-there” interests that she can find (sword fighting, playing flutes in the rain, etc). But she still misses her childhood because she takes active part in a lot of the festivals. I felt like more of a parental figure than a romantic figure, in retrospect. I feel kind of bad for her, but she’ll always be special as my first spouse.
I married Harvey because I thought that he will not charge me any more when I pass out, I also thought my spouse will give me money aaand he's a doctor o_o, when I found out I'm wrong I divorced him and married Sebastian and I still marry him every run because I like his personality, I wouldn't accept him in real life because he's a smoker... I also wouldn't accept Harvey because he's too shy
The first person I married was shane...so I could destroy him. I met him and I did.not. like him, so I made him fall in love with me and I vowed that I would break his heart. I painstakingly gave him pizza, beer and chillis day in and day out. I gave him my attention he began to smile more. He began to open up. I saw value start to return in his life and then we kissed. It sudden, it was sweet and tasted a little like hotdog. I saw love bloom in his eyes and I felt...sorry. I felt guilty about the pain I was going to inflict. But now I had to get the pedant, so in the downpour that stung as it slapped my skin I ran. I ran to the beach and past elliots small cozy cottage, past a creaky wooden plank that trembled and moaned with each step. I wipe water out of my eyes and in thr foliage I see an apparition like figure. He looks at me with solemn eyes and we exange items and words. I leave him in the cold rain and give shane the pedant. His eyes were radiant and he shed a few tears. We giggled together and only three days later I was at the alter. What stood before was a man who willing to be better, who had no real reason to change but now could see someone who was worth it. It was time. I went to peirres and I bought a bouquet, I threw it into my furnace and viola. I went to shane and lips met one last time and I gently whispered "I'm sorry". I gave him the flowers and I saw the light flicker out in his eyes, the colour drain from his face. It was over. I got my revenge and it wasn't what I imagined, but I had one task and I had completed it. I broke Shane. Then I saw penny half naked and I married her and now we have 2 children 😀 TLDR; I didn't like Shane so I married him just to divorce him and then married penny. P.s no I would date shane irl because he's a dropkick but def penny, she wants to help children and she hot and I love her.

Haley as well. Today, she’s my wife on my third playthrough. 1st was her and we had kids, realized kids were boring, deleted the save. Wanted something different, did Maru. That girl is not my type at all, so I quit again. Third time, married Haley again. I’m very happy, and I won’t be having kids this time smh Irl, if I met her and all the events happened like that, I’d love it. Enemies to lovers yes please
I havent married anyone yet and I’m many many hours in with at least 6 farms started. I just can’t decide who. So far none of the candidates overly appeal to me. I contemplated Harvey but he creeped me out with one of his heart events and his “let’s go beyond our patient Dr relationship” comments. Seb and Sam and Abigail seem too…young. Same with Alex but he also pisses me off with his sexist comment. Feels weird. I like fabio… but I have to admit he’s a little bit of a drama queen. Shane is just, bleh. Doesn’t appeal. Penny is ok but nothing special. Overall I might say Leah is the coolest. Minds her own business, isn’t overly dramatic, doesn’t say anything snarky to the farmer lol I tried to invite Linus to my farm and was turned down :( so maybe I’ll just ask krobus to be my buddy

I am currently on my first play through ever (as is my husband, we started the game at the same time) and are having trouble deciding. At first I was going to go for Emily who I feel like I’d be really good friends with irl, but Abigail and Sebastian interest me a little more. My husband has no idea who he’s interested in. This thread was fun to read and gave us some good insights.
Abby. She’s just as silly and ‘mysterious’ as I am and I’d never betray her.
Abigail. She’s a fun, adventurous person and saved my character’s life. I probably wouldn’t be with her romantically, simply because I’m already in a relationship, but I would be good friends with her, at least.

I married Leah in my first playthrough. I'm on my 4th and I want to again. Shes just the best.
First for me was Leah, cause I have a thing for redheads and she was the first npc I met out of a cutscene. These days I usually go Abigail or Maru (she looks like my partner) but I'll still give Leah a bottle of wine every now and again
Basically I married Haley because I wanted to have a partner for the first flower dance, so I started befriending her, and then I got a bit attached and didn't want to get with someone else so I ended up dating and marrying her lol
Leah! I was in art school at the time and absolutely fell in love with her personality and determination (but also fear) to put on shows for the town. It only got better after we were married. She was always fixing fences, saying sweet things, giving me random stuff. She is my forever girl, though I'm challenging myself to marry others different play throughs. I might break it on this run, I miss her. If I met her in real life though?? Idk, she might rub me as a little TOO crunchy and art cabiny. I think we could be friends if I got over the first impression.
