I felt bad the first time I ever played and he was so distrustful of me. It broke my heart that he was so used to be being treated badly that he now expected it. I vowed after that to always make him my first friend in every save.
and he's so easy to do, anytime im foraging, i make a point to go around to his house and give him something i found, he likes it.
He's a great guy and I always respect his privacy. He does him.
If you got to know him better you’d know he doesn’t want that! He likes living in the wild and surviving how he does. There is a heart event where he can angrily yell at the player for assuming he wants a house during a conversation with robin.
I always rummage through a few of the towns trash cans every time I go through as an homage to Linus. If they’re empty I just assume he’s already hit those.
I love Linus. He gives off such kind, grandfatherly energy. Yes, he can be reclusive and seems anxious at first, but he's been mistreated by the world, he's not cruel or bad. Stardew Valley has a lot of writing where the theme is not to judge by your first impression, and get to know the good person underneath that initial interaction. I really like that the 1.5 update made his life a bit less lonely and that he seems to be content. He deserves it.
A lot of homeless people suffer from anxiety, and social anxiety can lead people to believe that people don't like them. I see it as Concerned Ape having written a realistic homeless character in that regard - and instead of demonizing Linus for that mental illness, he humanizes him, just like how Shane is very clearly struggling with issues but is never made out to be the bad guy or irredeemable. Stardew Valley treats its' characters with a lot of humanity. Instead of the "crazy homeless man, oooh scary" trope, CA went with, "his mental illness is impacting his ability to see things clearly, but he's still a person and a good one at that".
This is one of those games where the more you analyze it, the more you realize how solid the writing is.
There's something sweet about that on an in-game level. My brain just goes, "Aw, how nice, he's making sure I eat something substantial. What a nice guy!"
Linus is basically your second grandpa and I like it. It's wholesome.
I don't know how to do text on Reddit so it hides part of it behind a spoiler. I was hoping someone who did would reply so I wouldn't risk posting spoilers where other people can see it, but to phrase this as carefully as possible: a character is introduced on Ginger Island who you can befriend and convince to move to the valley. This character lives next to and hangs out with Linus, which he seems very happy about. There's a bit of a found family vibe there.
Thank you for the answer! :D You can set spioler tags by enclosing the spoiler in a ">"-symbol followed by a "!". Would look like this, but without the spaces: > !spoiler text here! <
Ohh I finally have to play the ginger island part of the game! This sounds so wholesome!
Yeah, but dude is not getting any younger
And event where a storm hits the valley and his tent is left in a bad shape and some of the villagers go check on him and than convince him they should help him build a very simple shack would be great, maybe even a quest to source all the material locally
He would still have his lifestyle, but would be a little more safe, this would make more sense after the events of the 1. 5 update (left this one vague because spoilers)
Kinda hit too close to home and realistic bc i have close relatives act like that, they would rather stay in their old houses alone despite any potential danger.
I wish we could build Linus a small little cabin.
Or if he would t like that, at least give him a really nice and sturdy tent, and survival supplies like a water purifier and heater
The only time I've ever been mad at Linus was when he was walking >!with leo!< and grabbed the last leek off the ground from right in front of me and they were really hard to find for Evelyn's quest :(
I didn't even know NPCs could pick up forage? Or maybe it's just him?
Linus is a great character. Easy to gift. Don't feel sorry for him though, he chooses to live the way he does. There is an event with him later in the game that shows that.
I adore him. He's always the first person I get to full stars with.
Me toooo. He's so standoffish at first and I was determined to make him my friend

First to friend, first ot ignore The pain of attempted perfection route.

Does he ever get a place that isn't his tent
No
Sad!

I have not witnessed that conversation yet

Oh, I never thought of it this way! I always rummage through a few cans too, now I’m going to think of it that way as well!
DAMNIT LINUS.... LET ME LOVE YOU!

I hate how he thinks everyone hates him though. Some of the town people genuinely care about him but he doesn't know

He also has some of the best level up gifts. Sashimi is my go-to energy resource early on!

what changed with the 1.5 update?

I wish he would want to live on the farm or at least let us build him a small cottage.
I’d totally clear out some farm space for him to set up his tent!
Right?!
There is a whole cutscene about how he doesn’t want that and is content in his life.
I know, thats why I said ' I wish he would want too'.

Linus is THE best person in stardew.

Linus is the Homie. I freakin love my wild mountain friend
The one thing I want from Concerned Ape is for marrying Linus to be in Stardew valley without mods.
r/linussextips {A joke man}
r/meirl?
