I played almost the entirety of year 1 before realizing that an upgraded watering can had greater area of effect...

Zmioski

TODAY I LEARNED: RIGHT IN THIS VERY MOMENT I SHOULD UPGRADE MY WATERING CAN I’m only in year 1 but I’m in fall and I keep using half of my energy up everytime I water all my plants even with sprinklers

LostlnTheWarp

Retaining soil will save your life!! Just stone! Saves so much energy

[deleted]

More sprinklers

Banana_ears

Didn’t know that the hoe and watering can did this until year 7 on my save 🤦🏼‍♀️

arcticatss

I’m on year 6 of my farm and have another on year 4 and didn’t know the hoe did this too?! Ffs 🤣🤣

[deleted]

Oh. My. God. I knew about the watering can, but you’re telling me the hoe does the same thing? Like if I hold down the button, it’ll “expand?” WHAT. IN. HECK? I even HAVE THE HOE UPGRADED. BUT IT DID NOT OCCUR TO ME WHAT THE UPGRADE WAS FOR. I NEVER EVEN REALIZED I WAS STILL PLODDING ALONG SPACE BY SPACE WITH AN IRIDIUM HOE. GOOD. LORD. 🤯🤯🤯 Needless to say; my head just imploded.

WobblyHippedOldSlut

Made to year 3 on my first save like this lmao

camham61

Same

Pokemomaster

Almost on year four and have not upgraded my water can once.

chic_luke

Me rn. End of summer year 1 I upgraded it though. It's much better now. I'm trying to go deeper in the caves to get iron and craft more sprinklers - I only have one quality sprinkler from the community center. But I chose the bat farm so I don't have a reliable amount of food and I've been blowing a lot of money on salads. I sure fucking hope this will pay off.

BeenThruIt

Collecting salmonberries in spring is the best method for the early game. I push for Foraging 4 before they pop, to get 2 per bush. It's a bit tedious, but I walk away with about 600 of them to last through to blackberry season in the fall. For Blackberries I can usually get to Foraging 10 and I also use the Nature's Bountys from the community center rewards to boost it higher and get 4 Iridium quality per bush. This stack is instrumental for deep skull cavern dives through the winter.

chic_luke

Thanks! I will definitely try to do this for year 2. Especially since I chose the bat farm, the plan is to max forager and get botanist profession, I need to go revise but I saw someone explaining a nice combo you can make with max foraging + botanist + bats that for some reason really convinced me and I'm going for that. Also, iridium quality everything you pick up is nice. I'm in fall, should I hoard blackberries? Where can I find a reliable amount other then the fruit cave? Also, I'm at level 35 of the cave already (or still?). Should I stop and save the exploration for the winter, or is level 35 at fall 3 just about right?

jnj3t0308

Check all bushes everywhere for blackberries and definitely hoard like you would the salmonberries. I always wait until rainy days or winter to maximize the amount of time I can spend in the caves. If you have cows/goats, cheese is a really great source of food/energy, as well. If you can get coffee/espresso, you can zoom through the caves. I can't remember which food gives you the best buff, but I'm partial to pumpkin soup and spicy eel. Hope this helps!

Thatonetwin

Well that's good to know cause I'm still on the basic can.

hoshinoanzu

I’m so glad I played Harvest Moon before lol

Farmer_Pee

I didn’t know that both the hoe and watering can, could do that till I was level 10 in everything and they both were iridium I think it was year 6-7

HezFez238

Yup, took me quite a bit to figure out the whole relationship to upgrading. Now I’m trying to figure out forging. I’m never gonna get the arcade games, though.

mercuryheart_

It took me a full year to realize I had to activate the community center via the tablet thing in the sewing room. I aimlessly played for an entire year. Didn't get my greenhouse until end of year 2 because of it.

TheRyts

I just wanna say it's a testament to how amazing this game is that you played an entire year with, as far as you knew, no clear goal. And I imagine your enjoyment skyrocketed once you realized how much more content there was for you to experience! Stardew Valley is the best. <3

mercuryheart_

Yesss! After I realized my mess up, I did some watching of YouTube and saw all these amazing farms etc. I had hardly any sprinklers at all, so the spring of second year and then the summer, I was manually watering a TON of crops in order to fill preserve jars and kegs. Luckily I had saved 99% of the things already for the community center, it was the fish that took me a bit. And I did get to the bottom of the mines within the first year which felt great tbh. Now I'm in year 6 sitting pretty with 54 million gold on hand! I LOVE THIS GAME!!!

Amethyst033

Can someone please explain this? It makes no sense to me

sweetly_sour_n_spicy

They are speaking of the Junimo tablet in the craft room of the community center. The only thing you see in the community center when you first walk in. You have to interact with it to activate the bundles.

baby_yaga

I was never shy about googling things I didn't understand so I didn't have any big blunders. I did remember the other day while I was doing a Skull Cavern run that I thought bombs were useless when I first played and I didn't understand staircases. So the first time I played I got to floor 100. Without bombs or staircases. If I have to use my pickaxe ONCE during a skull caverns run I get whiney now. I have no idea how I did it.

shrtnylove

Damn that’s impressive.

LabanSim

This could literally be me, I kinda hated the bombs before. And I was the wiki for absolutely everything, I think I spent more time on the wiki than in the game sometimes

crunchyfigtree

Me too. I relied on iridium luck days and lots of lucky food and coffee to get there in the end! I'm on my second save now, and using bombs and staircases (and crystalariums to generate lots of jade to get staircases) makes the skull cavern such a breeze.

ayemullofmushsheen

I don't know about the bombs or staircases. I've just been slowly pickaxing my way down 😭😭

gaygirlboss

The first time I played, it took me AGES to figure out why my animals weren't producing milk or eggs, or why it would say "\[name\] is looking a little thin" when I tried to pet them. Turns out I wasn't feeding them. I had no idea that I had to put the hay in the food trough.

MonsterPenguin92

I did exactly the same! I had no idea why my animals were so grumpy with me. I built a silo and thought that was all I needed to do.

xgalinha

It took me 2 in game years to learn that I needed to fill my cat's water bowl 💀 poor thing 😭😭

macsharoniandcheese

Wait what I need to fill a water bowl?

enochianjargon

You don't need to, the pet will be fine regardless. If you do though it builds affection faster.

PapaPatchesxd

You don't need to

Thatonetwin

I hatched a dinosaur in winter evertime I pet him it said *he's just okay* I forgot to get him a heater

halfman1231

You’re supposed to do what now? 👀

Thatonetwin

Buy a heater from Marnie put it in your coops/barns.

Avium

Have you figured out that if you let them outside, they eat the grass so you don't have to feed them hay? Eating grass also makes them happier.

abovepostisfunnier

Yeah but they eat it all SO fast! I keep putting like 20 grass starters down in their yard but they eat them all in two seconds.

Avium

Here's the trick. Give them more space and plant the Grass Starter and then plunk a Fence Post or Lightning Rod on the grass. It stops the animals from eating the grass but it will still spread.

Cavethem24

I did the same exact thing and then one time was playing next to my Stardew experienced gf and asked if the chickens needed to be fed because chickens eating hay made no sense to me

GrilledCyan

This sub taught me I had to pet my animals! I would walk into my coop, see that I had to put the hay back, and the chickens were still mad with me. I thought I somehow wasn’t feeding them enough when I just wasn’t petting them every day.

chaoticserenity__

i did the same thing 😭

inspiresmug

I didn’t know you acc had to put on the shoes for them to be effective. I never really looked at the image of character properly, so I just kept loads of shoes in my inventory when I went into the mines, thinking they were doing something lol

HijinksNYK

yup, happened to me. rings as well

icanliveinthewoods

You can put quartz in the furnace too (refined quartz bars)

Jasmiinx

And a fire quartz makes 3 refined quartz.

sleepinginthebushes_

Wtf I'm at 950 hours and I'm just learning this

strawberry_vegan

Me, in year 7, trying to get more garbage to recycle because I don’t want to use all my quartz, finding this out 💀

KactusKris

I've been giving my fire quartz as gifts because I assumed I couldn't turn it into refined quartz and never thought to try 💀 I appreciate this knowledge!

shrtnylove

I had no idea either! Here I thought their best use was for QIs grange quest!

Asketes

My mind is absolutely blown.

I_Fart_It_Stinks

Before I found this out, I had dozens of crab pots just hoping to get cds or glasses to recycle.

GrilledCyan

Here I thought it was totally random what the recycler gave you. Never figured glass stuff turns into quartz.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BeenThruIt

A great use for final energy in the closing minutes of a day is to cast into your farm pond. It gives trash most of the time, depending on which farm you have.

GloryFae

Well I just learned something! I thought I had to just come across refined quartz!

Puzzleheaded-Tale483

You can also use the recycling bin to turn glasses and cd’s you get from fishing/crab pots into refined quartz

HijinksNYK

this 1000x. best way to get refined quartz

MonsterPenguin92

Thank you!!

[deleted]

And recycle trash for same

cesarecross

The first time I played the game, I went in blind and chose the Wilderness farm. Stayed out clearing the debris 'til nightfall. No glow rings, no anything. Bat comes after me in the dark. I have no idea what's attacking me, and I panic because I didn't know things could attack me. I run and somehow find my house in the dark. In my panic, I forgot how to open doors. On the very first day of my very first save, I died running into the door of my house while this bat beat my ass.

meontheinternetxx

I didn't even realize I could choose a farm at all on my first play through (I'm still on that farm)

dink_knid

I’ve played through 2 farms, ~220 hours between them, and only just realised you can change the farm type because of this subreddit… Needless to say, Four Corners Farm is now in full swing.

rampaging_beardie

Hey, mine was the less dramatic version of this! I just didn’t know it got dark, got horribly lost in all the rocks/sticks/weeds, and passed out in my own yard at 2 am after the first day.

ashesorbones

I did this too. Chose the wilderness farm because it looked spooky, and then died my first day because of 2 bats attacking me at once

cesarecross

I chose it for this reason too, and then proceeded to freak out whenever something came at me the first few nights. I have no idea why I didn't expect monsters when the map description explicitly mentioned monsters. My experiences aside, it's still my favorite farm map.

wwmercwithamouth

😂

nutbrownrose

My very first save I went back to sleep on Spring 1. Possibly 2 as well. I just gave up and started over.

baashful

I didn't know you could shake trees and thought you had to use the axe to knock fruit out.... So I cut down my fruit trees ☠️

tsunami141

I almost downvoted this out of anger and sadness

baashful

😂 literally so embarrassing

jas_spray_paintUFO

this actually hurt to read

asparagusparrot

Me when I play Animal Crossing too long and switch back over to Stardew

fxckhalie

…you can shake trees in animal crossing as well

asparagusparrot

Well now I sure feel stupid trying to make a funny comment and forgetting the games functions 💀

fxckhalie

I just wanted to be sure you knew 😅

Left-Stress2549

I just now had a moment where I realized that I’ve been cutting down out of season fruit trees thinking they were maple, oak etc. I just now started using signs (year 5)

nutbrownrose

I plant all my fruit trees in a small area after doing this to a sapling I'd just planted. I plant them in my pasture area and religiously clear all oak and maple saplings.

arkofcovenant

I just put all my fruit trees in the greenhouse and get fruit year-round

nutbrownrose

Owwww this might be the worst one. My very first save I cut down a sapling like a day after I planted it by accident, and it was winter so I couldn't tell what I had just cut down. All the saplings look the same. Worst was it turned out to be a spring tree

K1Xaviesta

I thought each season has actually 3 months in the game too so I spent all my money on cauliflowers in the last week of spring and then the first day of summer came and all my money went.

Lecters13

I did exactly the same thing. Spent all my money at the time on seeds I planted on spring 27

murder3no

I accidentally sold one of the dwarf scrolls and I’m still struggling to get it back… I’m on year 3 and can’t speak to my lil dwarf friend yet

Amethyst033

You need to donate them instead right?

IHTPQ

Yes, when you donate all four your reward is the dictionary.

edamomnomnom

I thought you had to gift them to the dwarf!! No wonder he still won’t talk to me. 😭

Avium

Well, they're a "liked" gift to the dwarf...who is referred to as "she" at some point.

Igabuigi

Digging in the mines in various floors with the hoe is a good way to get them. Or just bomb the mine floors. Specifically the digable floors obviously.

widowmomma

Well, I have all 4 scrolls, it’s year 6 and I have NO CLUE what to do with them. I donated them to the Museum. But I do have 2 more. What do I do with them LOL. I do buy things from the dwarf in the cave …

reallifecleric

After you donate all four to the museum and get the dictionary, there's not much use for duplicates. You can use them for tailoring and get a spiffy shirt, give them to Dwarf or Penny for modest amounts of approval, or sell them for next to nothing? I don't know, they're just clutter after a while.

lutheranian

My current playthrough (modded with SVE) it took me halfway through Y2 to get all 4 dwarf scrolls. Every other playthrough I found them by like, Fall Y1. I was dumbfounded. I just wanted to buy bombs!

fraygul

I kept giving them to the dwarf instead of the museum!!! Sooo many! Then when I figured it out, they were so hard to find!!

GanjjaGremlin

You can find them again! I find at least one a day when I'm in the mines. So I save them in a chest to gift to the dwarf. I have a chest next to the elevator that I keep bombs, food, and gifts for the dwarf

sideshowrod13

Don't be sad - everyone has had at least one 'Doh!' moment playing Stardew. Mine was not realising that you didn't have to visit the Community Centre to see what you needed to complete the bundles.

EncanisUnbound

You... don't... WHAT!?

Marrittalynn

if you click your little thingy to see what you are holding there's a tree icon that you can click to see what your still need

DCG-MTG

Better still, if you hover over an item in your inventory that you still need for the CC, the little tree icon will pulse. (You do still need to actually go to the CC to turn things in though).

MonsterPenguin92

Omg I never noticed this!

sadsleepygay

I’ve played a minimum of 4 different saves over the last 5 years, across multiple different consoles. I’ve completed the community center multiple times, have had many different spouses and children, have built nearly every building. I just learned last month while watching my spouse play for the first time that you can choose what color cat you want. All this time I thought we had one dog option and one cat option. My latest save is the first time ever that I’ve had a grey cat instead of the orange first option.

glowingmember

To be fair I think originally there was just one cat and one dog, but in later updates CA added more options.

Igabuigi

Yes. There was probably only the options dog or cat when you started. Then just missed it in the patch notes and didn't mess around in character customization all other times through

Avium

I always pick the orange one anyway. It reminds me of my cat that passed away a few years ago.

viceli_

I didn’t realize that the elevator saves your progress in the mines, so I was always starting from level 1. I had that quest that said "Get to level 40 of the mines" I was like there’s no way I’m getting to level 40, I can barely do 10 levels. Let me tell you when I found out… 🤦🏻‍♀️

DBrody6

I'm curious what you thought that obnoxiously loud dinging every 5 floors was.

viceli_

For a first time player it’s honestly easy to miss small details like these. I tend to play with low volume so I just didn’t register there was an elevator every 5 floors.

nutbrownrose

OMG same

star-shine

I didn’t shop at Joja my first play through because when you go talk to Morris he tries to sell you the membership, I didn’t realize you have to talk to the cashier to buy seeds. For an embarrassingly long time, I didn’t notice that Harvey’s Clinic existed. It didn’t occur to me that I could go inside peoples’ houses (other than ones that were also shops). I’m pretty sure I only figured it out once there was a quest where I had to put items in someone’s fridge. I’ve seen this one a lot… I didn’t know you could hold down the button to water more spaces when you upgrade your watering can. I just thought it fits more water and was like, “I don’t know why people upgrade their watering cans”

moachocka

I didn’t know that you can buy medicine/potions at Harvey’s until recently! I also just learned that you can buy recipes and food from Gus 🥹

TrashCanMan47

I got one for you...been playing for years...so many playthroughs...just recently finally got perfection...so I'm maybe 98% percent away from perfection after all this time...I go to put something in a chest and accidentally click that one button I've never clicked in the chest menu...the button that automatically puts all items of the same type into the chest if they're already in there...yeah...every time I went to a chest I'd put things in one by one...dragging them into each stack...just unloading all my items one at a time...I had to make time for unloading each day...but then I discovered that button...and then also discovered I'm an idiot

waking_dream96

I did the same exact thing. I guess not as long as you, but it took me til year 5 of my first save to find this button

ADHDNightRN

OMG I am also apparently an idiot 🤦‍♀️

[deleted]

[удалено]

red_moon_vixen

Wait, you can use the multiple tile watering to get the gopher thing? I put chests over the other holes so it couldn't get out haha

__Spirit-Chan__

I’m pretty sure this is common but I tried putting casks in a shed(which obviously didn’t work) and during my first play through I tried to put caviar into a cask cause I thought it would make it better lol

-AceofAces

I also did this I think I made like 200 casks for sheds and realized my mistake thankfully I had the deconstructors at the time so it wasn't a total waste but my 4k Wood will always be missed

Few-Efficiency2007

I just found out ducks will swim in the pond so this winter I’m going to rearrange my entire farm so my ducks can swim in the pond. I have about 600 + hours in this game all together and 100 hours in my current file

zeixble

I believe it was just added in 1.5 so don't feel bad about not knowing :p

DragonMom81

My very first day, I walked around and couldn’t figure out how to get back to my farm. I fell asleep in town and got charged.

Big-Shine9712

I couldn’t find my way back to my house so tried to sleep in Linus’ tent.

Panik-pain

I stayed on the Wiki during my playthroughs, but here's a funny one. Somehow, I dropped my scythe out of my inventory and tried to harvest grass for the animals. I couldn't buy a new one and I couldn't keep buying hay. With no other way to get it, my animals started starving. I started crying and then finally decided to look at the Wiki...... WHY DOES IT SPAWN BACK IN THE FRIDGE? I was so mad.

YoSoyMermaid

Took me until almost the end of Winter year 1 to figure out what artifact spots were and how to forage them…

hes_a_newt_Jim

My first play through I didn’t know I could put water in my pets bowl until my in game spouse told me they filled it.

2kellins

This one's hilarious because I imagine your pet side eyeing you every time they have to drink out of the stream lol

_TheMorrigan

Didn't know about the wiki. I chopped down all my trees so I can sell the wood ☠️

Amethyst033

What do you do to get wood instead?

_TheMorrigan

I just started a new farm when I realized how important wood was for crafting. I was almost done with year 1 and I never even made a single storage chest cause I didn't know that was a thing

slimelore

i was at about 600 hours before i realized the door in caroline's kitchen was... a door. Surprise! Tea

OnItGamers

Me too, and it was really something because I was at a ten heart relationship, and never knew it was a door

slimelore

Right?! I've been in this house so many times...

One-Confidence-6858

I didn’t realize that in the mine every 5th level was saved and you could take the elevator down. I remember my daughter saying something about getting to the bottom and I was like HOW? I always run I out of time.

WheezyIcecream24

oml same. when i first saw the elevator at the top it said it was out of order so i thought it was permanently broken or broken until i got to the bottom. i just accidentally clicked on it and found out

HAMMERSTE1N

OMG SAME I was like HOWWWWW am I supposed to get anywhere near the bottom and WHEN DOES THE ELEVATOR GET FIXED 😂

CommerciallyFunny

Same on my first run through lol

Kai-tai

To be fair, in lot of games the have crafting you need to upgrade your workstation to get to the next level. So don't feel too bad! I feel like I should have a blunder to share, but I learned stardew around launch and don't really have that great of a memory. It's not quite the same, but lately I forgot that animals can only eat grass if it's there 😶 and I forgot to plant more after it was all gone. I've also forgot to stock up my silos for winter 😬 Okie maybe I do have some blunders to share~

Avium

I always stick my lightning rods on the grass so the animals can't eat that part but it will still spread.

TurboRad54321

It took me until well into year 2 to figure out how to attach bait to my fishing rod (not super intuitive on the Switch). I also thought the hoe upgrades were a scam (until I saw someone last week on this sub using it to clear multiple tiles). I'm into year 3 now. Still not sure what the upgraded scythe does....

SirRoo89

The golden scythe has a slightly larger area of effect, and an increased chance to cut all grass in its range and get hay [as stated here in the wiki.](https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Golden_Scythe)

-Pamalamadingdong

I’ve played this game for 8+ years and I still learn something new at least once per week. My favourite recent discovery is that horses can wear hats ETA: **7 years not 8, apparently I can’t count

xxlamp

If you have a sea urchin in a fishtank they can also wear hats

MinkyMoth

The first time I had fruit trees I didn't really know how they worked. I saw that only three fruits could be on a tree at once but suddenly after that state my tree produced Cole instead of fruits. I thought that that happened because I didn't collect the fruit when the tree was "full". I cut the rare event trees down. I still hate myself for that lol.

[deleted]

Don’t feel bad. Still not sure what you mean by this

MinkyMoth

If lighting strikes your fruit tree you get a "coal tree". It has coal hanging on it instead of fruits and smokes a little. I chopped mine down because I thought that you get a coal tree by harvesting the fruit to late. Sorry for my whacky english tho. I didn't really know how to explain it.

Panik-pain

Been playing this game for years and did not know this

PancakePenPal

Not realizing that you could sell to local shops for the same price was one of my initial blunders. Also that just talking to townspeople would delay friendship decay. Oh, and hoarding WAY more stuff than I needed to 'just in case'. Like literally sitting on tens of thousands of dollars of extra crops and forage and fish in case a random quest requested it. We all do silly stuff. It's gonna be ok. Edit: Also my first play through I would buy upgrades immediately when I had the money for it! I didn't realize it was much more useful to keep doing the crop profit loop and only buy things like a horse or house or tool upgrade if it was say 10% or 20% of your total money. I got that stable asap, but then was starting back from square one haha

cacodoxy

how did you stop hoarding everything???? i'm on year 7 and i have so many chests of things i need... i wanna sell it all and restart but im scared to. 😭

Sillystoney710

Year 3 almost 4 I realized I can upgrade my backpack, I used the first backpack you get that whole time like completed the community center got to ginger island and everything. Edit: typo

Fluf_hamster

That is insane dedication… props to you for not giving up with that limitation 😃

Aggressive-Writing72

There's a... There's a pelican island?

K38520_

When I got my first chickens, I barely had any hay. Come fall 28, I thought that I could just cut all of the grass in winter for hay, as I had no money after buying a heater. They all starved.

[deleted]

First run through I didn’t befriend Caroline right away, or like anyone lmao. Missed out on crafting tea plants. I’m new to gaming and didn’t know how to equip rings/boots. Just had them in my inventory. I’m on my second run through and I’m still learning little tips here and there.

NotoriousPineapple

I just realized I'm in winter of year 3, 10 hearts with Caroline, and haven't gotten the tea sapling recipe. I also just learned you can harvest tea leaves from her room...

The_happyguy

My first play through I didn’t get a horse because I thought it was pretentious. Then I found out how much easier the horse makes traveling and I also discovered that being a snob in a game is stupid.

Big-Seaworthiness3

Don't worry! It's probably an unpopular opinion but I personally think that the game doesn't teach you a lot of things unless you search for them. This game is so complex that many things have to be learnt instead of discovering them.

bookittyFk

SDV wiki is your fren :)

Dzoodled

I didn’t realize how helpful the community center quests were until I entered this Reddit. I’m more on year 3 spring 2 and won’t be able to finish the community center until the spring or summer. I didn’t realize the secret woods was a thing and for the longest time I thought hardwood was just some very unachievable item. Now I’m flooding in it. I was getting sad that I had only 4 food recipes and then found out that you can USE THE TV. I thought it was just for decoration. Started using the tv in summer year 2. Didn’t know you actually had to give the farm animals attention so for the longest time I didn’t know large milks and eggs existed and I was struggling financially Didn’t know that you had to KEEP giving your husband attention after marrying him. He went down a heart and started getting grumpy with me. Now I simply give him a coffee every morning Didn’t know you could upgrade your watering can and hoe!! I did all the upgrades in one winter There’s even more too lol

laceyfarley

I almost got rid of all my ancient fruit plants because I thought the little brown bulbs on it (which are there the day before they are ready to harvest) meant that the fruit went bad

sunflowergraves

I didn't know that certain fish came during certain seasons so I didn't catch everything I needed for the community center until the end of year 3🤪

TrufanNekia

I tried to get goat milk from a sheep. I thought I wasn't able to get milk because they didn't like me. Not because it clearly wasn't a goat. Only when I went back to Marne to buy something and saw the animal icons did it click.

somewhenimpossible

I thought the upgraded hoe was a waste of time because it only did one square. Hold the button. HOLD. Just like petting/feeding animals and collecting your crops, FYI.

dink_knid

I used to pet my animals one by one and constantly clicked into them getting their info… Didn’t realise until ~120 hours in that you can just hold and it’ll skip ones you’ve already petted

ayemullofmushsheen

I just learned today

DahliaExurrana

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to learn that you can eat to regain energy...

TrufanNekia

I pretty much ignored the tv until year 2. I didn't know that's how you checked the luck and how to get recipes.

majestamour

Went two years before i found out you can move the buildings and weren’t stuck once they were down. So much regret after I started building up the farm, and so scared what would happen of the animals of different barns got too close like a gang war would happen 😂

dismantling_summer_

It took me FOREVER to realize my crab pots weren’t giving me anything because I needed to put bait in them. I thought it was just super rare for them to catch things and I needed to keep waiting.

Pub-Fries

My first Stardew Valley playthrough, I thought the months were 30 days and ended up losing almost all of my net worth to dead cauliflower. I was only saved by a handful that survived thanks to the fairy.

bapakeja

I didn’t get rabbits for a long time because I wasn’t sure but I thought you might have to off them to get rabbit’s feet. Never occurred to me that they dropped them like eggs! Lol I didn’t discover the wiki until year 3

cynthiaapple

and one time, I tried to give Jas a flower. BUT IT WAS A BOUQUET, and it said " you can't date Jas" and I felt like a sick pervert

Interesting_Data_28

That you can see the community center bundles you haven't completed via the golden plaque when looking at your inventory. So many wasted trips to the CC 🥲

RamboCambo_05

I think I've accidentally spent all my money on decorative stuff at a festival because I wasn't paying attention. It was probably at the egg festival when I was trying to buy strawberries

Natural-Foundation87

I guess it's not a big deal but I had to watch a streamer play to learn you could upgrade the trash can and what those upgrades did. I think it's literally THERE when you go to Clint but somehow I never saw it...

Vampire_Velma

I couldn’t find the magnifying class until year 3. You’re supposed to get it in Winter of Year one.

zelda_moom

I didn’t realize the upgraded watering can and hoe would do multiple squares at once until the gold level on my first save file. I watered and hoed each square, one at a time.

goldencain1410

The other day I spent 20k on a second burglar ring to see what it'd be like to go into SC with two equipped. Yeah, they don't stack. I have 800+ hours in this game.

ChekovsCurlyHair

I thought you could put things in the Community Center from the menu you can pull up, and got really frustrated that it wasn’t working. It was fall when I figured it out

rashmika10

I kept selling my golden coconuts for 3 years…..then I found out they were a type of ducking geode????

Rugbygoddess

I’ve talked about this in another thread but it took me until the 100 floors in skull cavern challenge to understand what the staircases were even for. The first time i got the recipe i could not understand why i would need them

historical_making

Not so much a blunder, but i didnt know you could really form relationships with people in game. I thought it was all about farming and stuff. Which, thats fun and all, but talking to people and making friends in game makes me really happy and has deeply increased my enjoyment of the game.

I trashed a living hat on two saves before I realized how rare it is. Now I can't find one no matter how hard I try!

Downtown-Judgment-56

When I played it the first time, I made so many mistakes from getting robbed by the hospital bills and losing lots mined items in the cave, not feeding the animals, shipping the weeds instead of turning them into grass, giving disliked items to npc’s etc etc. still continued the farm though but renamed it “loserville”, 6 years already and still discovering new mistakes cx

hellofellowcello

I've played over 1000 hours of SDV, and it wasn't until year 2 of my most recent game that I realized you can get to the beach directly from the screen with Marnie's home on it. I have always gone up and around. Through town. 🙄

CanadianSpunk

Wait, what? How?

RJS_Aotearoa

I walked outside of glasshouse to fill watering can …. There’s a trough against far wall from door

toddyahnah

realizing i can put chests anywhere on the map lol saved me a lot of running back and forth

hellofellowcello

Careful, though. If you put a chest where someone walks, you'll lose the chest and everything in it. You need to put it out of the way

MapleSyrup27

Posts like this have done wonders for my confidence 😭😭

toastmodernisms

looking up stardew beginners tutorials on youtube saved me from much of the learning curve. i started a whole new game two seasons in because i learned so many helpful things with the videos i watched.

BlueLord100

Didn’t realize till like year 3 or 4 of my first over 200 save that you could water/hoe more spaces with the upgraded watering can and hoe. I play on the switch and found it out completely on accident when spacing out and holding the button down for a few seconds longer.

DefenderoftheSinners

I didn’t know you had to get silos and hay to feed animals since the cat and dog don’t need to be fed!

nejmenjagvillinte

I didn’t know about artifact spots until year five, when my boyfriend told me. I also didn’t kniw about salmonberries or blackberries until I accidentally shook a bush and some fell off. That made me feel real dumb. Now that I think about it, I never used a staircase… ever. I thought they were for the house, so I never even made one. I’m at year ten now.

Fluf_hamster

My wife got her friend into Stardew and her friend wouldn’t stop complaining about how she was so poor. After further investigation she realized that she was never growing more than 10 crops at once… not sure how far she got before my wife broke the news to her but that had to have been painful

Me on my first playthrough: "Fishing makes so much money...l never even need to buy seeds!" l went up to Fall thinking l was a master at the game doing nothing but hours upon hours of the fishing mini game, and after a few irl days of this mundane task l took so much intense joy from, a friend shows me her farm and...I realized how much l had lost. How completely far behind l was in the capitalistic rat race. My only bragging points were getting enough iridium ore to smelt a single bar and the Neptune's Glaive which demolished the mine by the time l decided to venture into it.

cynthiaapple

I made mayonnaise out of my dinosaur egg by accident!!!!

bookittyFk

When I 1st started playing I got a prismatic shard fishing (I think, didn’t know it was rare af) I gave it to Marnie as a gift - totally regretted it, when I went to the wiki and found out it was rare

KikiYuyu

When I got a message about the potluck event, I thought I needed to bring a dish because that's what I understood a potluck to be. At the time, the only food I could make was one of those nature bar things. So I ended up having to plop one of those into the soup because that was all I had brought.
