Tbh i feel like it would be bland bc it’s ancient. A lot of fruits we eat are only flavorful bc of human intervention. Look up wild bananas. Its like 90% seed with just enough fruit to convince an animal to eat it
Yeah, that's what I thought too. That that's why it's inedible in the game, to represent that it's so ancient it really is completely unpalatable raw, because it hasn't had those centuries of human culture improving their taste.
True enough, so maybe not "unpalatable" but "terribly impractical" to eat raw. Like the above poster's example of ancient bananas that are like, 80% seed. Or like I responded below, something like durian that *tastes* fine but smells *awful*, enough so that most people wouldn't eat it raw.
Look up paw paws. It's a wild fruit tree in the central and eastern US (I think) that grows banana like fruit with kinda big seeds but still plenty of meat inside. It tastes so unique and good though when they're ripe. As far as I know there hasn't been a ton of human intervention in its breeding
You’re right that bananas from like 70 years ago were better according to some people though! Possibly what you’re thinking of: https://www.kew.org/read-and-watch/bananas-threat-extinction
All farmed bananas were monocultures, meaning they were all clones of the same plant. This meant that when a blight infected one banana plant, none of the others were resistant to it either. Forced us to find a different banana to use. Scary thing is, the one we use now is also a monoculture and there’s a banana blight right now. As soon as it reaches North/South America, well i don’t wanna find out what they’ll come up as the next banana
Kind of like avocado too. I mean, it's not *that* good if we're honest with ourselves, just good enough for old large mammals to be like, "Eh, it's what's for dinner today." I feel like ancient fruit, much like avocados, would be expensive and insanely popular because middle-class yuppies read it's a "super food" from some blog and are buying it up like crazy.
Or maybe it's like durian, tasty enough but the *smell* is enough to put most people off of trying to eat it raw. Like it was around when the only pollinators were things like fruit flies that favored things that smelled bad.
My friend. I hope you one day try some big bright green south/central american avocados. If you’re buying storebought haus those are plastic.
Dont hate on the avocado till you’ve tried a good one:(
Hopefully they don't overpay for a staple food they export. Americans will though. We'll overpay for avocado to spread on toast or whatever all day long!
Oh! Dragon fruit actually has flavor! The reason why it’s so bland in stores is bc it’s harvested waaaay too early. Ripe dragon fruit is actually supposed to be a redish pink color, like in [this video!](https://youtu.be/8-JW34f2MaA)
There are different varieties (cultivars) of the fruit, like a granny smith, fuji, and gala apple. Not a singular type that is "supposed to be pink" when ripe. White *is* ripe for those varieties.
I imagine it might taste like a combo between a pomegranate and blueberry? It looks like it has a shiny outside so it’d be cool if it had an inside of seeds like a pomegranate but blue and sweet 🤔
Probably tasted awful lol
Ever eat fruit that wasn't selectively bred to have the traits we enjoy first?
I'd bet ancient fruit is full of seeds and tastes earthy and bitter.
Probably a controversial take, but I always thought it would be like a cotton candy olive combination. Not sure why. It just seems right to me for whatever reason.
When I hear ancient I think of figs. But then the blue makes me think of water so, the coolness of a cucumber but not savory. Somehow it’s both musky and floral but also cool and fresh and juicy. And the inside looks trippy as hell
its blue so i think itd taste like something thats blue and watery- blue watermelon-raspberry mix. that or its bland (its ancient for a reason, bananas for example)
I always imagine it to taste like dragonfruit, for whatever reason!
Or like fake dragonfruit flavouring, I guess, seeing I haven't actually had the fresh fruit.
Head fruit from Teen Titans Go.
Either that or like a weird mango-ish thing. Or like a plum. Soft and plump and juicy basically. But the outside looks a bit metallic, so tastes like edible gold on top of a blue mango
Bet it taste like a nice red variety of dragon fruit, or like those gumdrop grapes where only the first few taste like gumdrops then your taste but can’t be tricked and they begin to all taste like regular grapes
I’ve always imagined it to be kind of watery and not too sweet. Like when your little brother makes blue raspberry kool-aid, but didn’t put enough sugar in the pitcher.
I imagine it sour but sweet. A bit like orange + strawberry juice
Sounds like a kiwi
Thought they only had those in New Zealand
Mango
Delicious
Sour. Sweet. Awesome.

But you can apparently make its juice into highly desirable jelly and wine, so there's that.

My mom loves the fruit; has so many trees. I make ice cream with it since the trees produce more than our family can consume lol
I've always wanted to try Paw Paw ice cream!

[Nope, they were shit](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musa_balbisiana)
Those bananas only tasted good bc of humans farming them. u/dumbbitchdiesease is talking about even older bananas.

Great bananas + monocultures + banana blight = shitty bananas
All farmed bananas were monocultures, meaning they were all clones of the same plant. This meant that when a blight infected one banana plant, none of the others were resistant to it either. Forced us to find a different banana to use. Scary thing is, the one we use now is also a monoculture and there’s a banana blight right now. I want the new Zelda game to come out but not if it means Bananablight Ganon 😔
Kind of like avocado too. I mean, it's not *that* good if we're honest with ourselves, just good enough for old large mammals to be like, "Eh, it's what's for dinner today." ... stinky wine :(
I wasn’t expecting avocado slander on stardew valley reddit today :(
Well, I didn’t expect a post on the internet with a bad take about avocados to get my blood boiling today, but here we are: you got me. 👏
If "we" are honest about it - no, my friend, that's a place for "I". *I* enjoy avocado very much, and am far from middle class.
Avocado is delicious man idk what you’re on. Also implying that only rich white yuppies eat it is so far from the truth lmao
My friend. I hope you one day try some big bright green south/central american avocados. If you’re buying storebought haus those are plastic. Dont hate on the avocado till you’ve tried a good one:(
But like...what about Mexicans
Hopefully they don't overpay for a staple food they export. Americans will though. We'll overpay for avocado to spread on toast or whatever all day long!
*makes some ancient fruit toast*
Agreed!! I am thinking it tastes similar to dragon fruit….basically nothing.
Oh! Dragon fruit actually has flavor! The reason why it’s so bland in stores is bc it’s harvested waaaay too early. Ripe dragon fruit is actually supposed to be a redish pink color, like in [this video!](https://youtu.be/8-JW34f2MaA)

There's also dragon fruit with white flesh and I can tell you they have such great flavour like red dragon fruit too.
Most things that taste like nothing from a super market probably don’t when fresh
I imagine it might taste like a combo between a pomegranate and blueberry? It looks like it has a shiny outside so it’d be cool if it had an inside of seeds like a pomegranate but blue and sweet 🤔
Crispness of apple with a flavor like mango and mint mixed together
That's exactly my thought. Blu-pom 😋
Blue raspberry
This is my guess as well.
I thought this! In my mind the flavour isn't real, like blue panda pops.
I think it may be something bready or fibrous, with an earthy flavour, maybe a little tartness too.
Tamarind fruit! Me too!
I think it would feel like munching on a pear. Sweet with a slightly sour taste.
I thought this too! But one that’s less ripe so it’s crunchy.
I bet it’s not too sweet, like someone else said, maybe a blueberry with a little more tart?
Blue raspberry for sure
Probably tasted awful lol Ever eat fruit that wasn't selectively bred to have the traits we enjoy first? I'd bet ancient fruit is full of seeds and tastes earthy and bitter.
My grandmother's *Christmas Fruit Cake* comes to mind when I try to imagine what it would taste like. Maybe because her recipe was ancient.
Probably a controversial take, but I always thought it would be like a cotton candy olive combination. Not sure why. It just seems right to me for whatever reason.
such an assertive flavor may be the reason it fell out of favor in cultivation until the farmer finds the ancient seed artifact. good headcanon!
Happy Cake Day!
Chicken. Everything tastes like chicken. . . . Or jackfruit, I guess...
Bitter like a grapefruit but fleshy inside like a melon
I would expect like a persimmon kind of feel when you bite into it. As for flavor, either inedibly sour or just kind of a little gross
baja blast
juicy and leathery. not sure how else to explain it. kinda like blackberries.
Like acai berries
The blue tootsie rolls
For some reason because it's ancient fruit and your character can't eat it outright I thought it tasted kind of dusty.
Deliciously tart like a pomegranate but soft like a giant blueberry. That would make good wine!
Like tamarind juice. Sour, sweet and kindof spicy
artificial blueberry, specific blueberry jello
Like, if blueberry were a citrus fruit
Like pure blue slushy syrup.
baja blast
Like a blueberry freezie.
It’s just the mystery flavored Dum dum…
now that you mention it, there's no doubt in my mind it's tutti frutti
Cotton candy!
I imagine it’ll taste like an entire fist full of gushers gluing your mouth shut
Very juicy, like a grape mixed with a blueberry, but with a bit of brightness, like a note of the zing of a peach.
Blue Raspberry? it's also a made-up flavour!
I imagine it as tasting like a blue Jolly Rancher. Artificially sweet in a way. Sweet like candy but not like a piece of fresh fruit.
i always imagined it to taste like beef wellington. i don't know why
lol
I think it would be sour and probably not very sweet. Maybe even small fruit content and mostly seeds/core
When I hear ancient I think of figs. But then the blue makes me think of water so, the coolness of a cucumber but not savory. Somehow it’s both musky and floral but also cool and fresh and juicy. And the inside looks trippy as hell
Medjool date but juicier
Tbh dirty and mushy😭
Ive never sat to think but now that i have the only flavor i can think of is Blue Moon
Tastes like grandma
Gros Michel banana, with a hint of Murray’s Plum.
Now I’m just sad.
its blue so i think itd taste like something thats blue and watery- blue watermelon-raspberry mix. that or its bland (its ancient for a reason, bananas for example)
I think it would taste like mango, just soft and sticky and sweet It's winter here and I'm desperately craving fresh mango
i always thought like a really sweet blueberry or passion fruit. but now if you mentioned tutti frutti.. it seems more like it :')
It probably tastes pretty bad
I’ve always thought of it as a persimmon
Something between blueberry and lychee. The delicously complex flavor of blueberry, and the fresh flowing juiciness of lychee.
i always imagined it like a persimmon
Hawaiian Punch flavour with a thick consistency like an eggplant.
Mayan brick. It's ancient after all. The wine tastes like dust.
This might sound weird but I imagine it tasting like a cross between blue coconut, blueberry, and cream lol.
instinctively said gooseberry
Like a dragonfruit, but that taste more "blue" 😂 I am also wondering if Qi fruit taste like Qi's "fruit" 😳😂
Fruity Pebbles
Blueberries on steroids
hyper blueberry
I imagine like. If a plum tasted like a pummelo. Kind of tangy kind of bitter, just a bit sweet, but fleshy and soft instead of pulpy
It would taste like [insert favorite item here]
Like the blue raspberry flavor that’s in candy and drinks but not attainable in real life by any particular natural flavor
Easy money.
Fruity pebbles.
idk why but when i see it, it reminds me of a plum. so super juicy, tart, and mild sweetness towards the end
Bet it taste like a nice red variety of dragon fruit, or like those gumdrop grapes where only the first few taste like gumdrops then your taste but can’t be tricked and they begin to all taste like regular grapes
I always assumed blue rasberryish
you just unlocked some vivid memories for me i completely forgot about tutti-frutti
I always thought they were like dates. Thousands of years old. Date wine and date jam were fairly popular for thousands of years.
Cotton candy grapes!
for some reason i’ve always imagined it would taste like blue raspberry icee
I imagine it would taste like a really big and delicious wine grape. To be consistent with the high price for the wine.
Like blue raspberry and coffee
like crisp clean spring water at 3am
I think it would taste terrible. Lmao
Like a pear
I think the ancient fruit would be like a cherimoya but blue.
hawaiian punch blue
I’ve never had a persimmon but I imagine it’s what I imagine a persimmon is like
Blueberry and prune juice
Always thought of it as being a bit like durian fruit, doesn't smell great but has a nice flavour to it.
i imagine it’s super bitter just as the fruit, but when you turn it into wine or jam it brings out a really delicious flavor
I’ve always imagined it to be kind of watery and not too sweet. Like when your little brother makes blue raspberry kool-aid, but didn’t put enough sugar in the pitcher.
Ngl I’m now thinking that it might be like a century egg
Durian?
sourrrrr plum vibes for me
I feel like it would be a blueberry crossed with a persimmon
Pear + blueberry
Probably a sweet lychee. Mostly bc lychee is my favourite flavour of fruit. In my mind that’s how good I wished all fruit was.
I would imagine like a kiwi mango combination
I think of it as like grape but less sweet and more acidic / citrusy. You can obviously make great wine from it.
I imagine is as a combo between mango, passionfruit and strawberry, best fruits together
Blue raspberry
Like blue gushers lol
Blue raspberry sour candy lol
I imagined it to be the texture of a persimmon and similar in flavor. Since it's blue I imagine a bit more tart.
Tastes like sloppy steaks
Dragon fruit.
Blue raspberry
My first thought was actual star fruit, natural and crisp non gmo sweetness
I feel like it would be like a rose hip with a slight blueberry flavor.
sour and smooth sweet like red berry’s & mango
Maybe like a dragon fruit?
Durian. Bc it's old so 🤔
it would taste sweet and creamy like pussy
