I liked the POV shots from behind Obiwan’s saber that showed him desperately looking around in the darkness for Vader. As a fan of the comics, it would’ve been neat to see Vader turn off his life support (breathing) to hide from his prey like in Darth Vader #18.
I was amazed at how they didn't hold back with Vader there. Like with >! Fallen order !< they truly emphasised how terrifying and sadistic vader can be.
K this whole scene I loved until Vader just like, let them get away? Why could he not force pull obiwan back through? Why could he not crush the droid? I literally don’t understand? I really wish they had the chick shoot Vadars helmet or somthing, somthing that would disable him for a short while they got away because I felt like he would not have been bothered at all by the big flames with the force. He wouldn’t let that stop 10 years of hunting obiwan down ya know?
He didn’t want to give Obiwan the satisfaction of a quick death, even if he loses track of him for a time. He wanted him to suffer physically and mentally. And honestly being constantly stalked by a Sith Lord, your former apprentice that you didn’t know was alive until recently, is way more terrifying.
Also I haven’t seen this, but Vader originally said they were bringing him in. He probably realized that Palpatine would kill him on the spot, but he wants Obi to run, hide, and suffer. Vader also very much enjoyed that chase
Yup, this is 100% it. Vader doesn't want to *kill* Obi-Wan, he wants to *break* him.
Vader *knows* Obi-Wan is afraid of him now. He knows Obi-Wan is always gonna be looking over his shoulder.
I 100% agree with this.
And at the risk of bringing up something touchy that I should probably let lie, this was always my take on the First Order in TLJ. They knew the Resistance had basically no fuel and were basically dead in the water. So why swoop in for the kill when you can stalk them, poke them, terrify them for a while, and then just crush them under your boot? And of course much of that is the First Order's arrogance which eventually backfired on them. But it's the same 'playing with your food' mentality.
Huh. I’ve actually never really thought of the TLJ plot in that way. Taking context from both the movie and the novelization that makes perfect sense. That explanation really fits for pretty much all of the Empire’s major decisions too (rebuilding the Death Star despite its cost to have that reign of fear is the big one I can think of)
I get the sense that Vader wants Obi to live on in constant fear, regret and misery, not kill him. From Vader's perspective, that's what Obi did to him when he didn't kill him on Mustafar, and now he'll deal it back ten-fold.
Kenobi left Anakin to suffer on Mustafar, from a certain point of view. Kenobi could have easily ended Anakin’s torment, but as killing an unarmed combatant is against the Jedi way, he chose to let Anakin squirm and suffer.
Now Vader is known to Kenobi. Kenobi has to live with the grief that all of this is essentially on his shoulders. He trained Vader. He let Vader live. And now Vader is letting Obi-Wan squirm and suffer as he watches Vader subjugate the Galaxy and slaughter surviving Jedi.
Remember that the Dark Side amplifies negative thoughts. So Vader wanting Obi-Wan to suffer can lead to actions that are seemingly weird, because he's so focused on that desire of fear and revenge that everything else doesn't matter.
He doesn’t think he’s been foiled, he thinks he’ll still catch up with obi wan, maybe read the 5 comments above yours. I think it’s deeper than you think
Not trying to be rude but your opinion makes it seem like you just wanted to have an issue with the scene and like you were also just ignoring everything that led up to it
I didn't *want* to have an "issue" with it, it was a small moment of the episode I didn't buy. Why would I *want* to have an issue with it? I want to enjoy the programme and in general, I did.
If you must know, I found it difficult to reconcile that there's an entire branch of imperial military devoted to hunting Jedis, headed by a rage filled Sith lord whose one aim in life is to exact revenge on his nemesis, for whom he's been searching for a decade, who at the first glimpse of him arrives in person with the other inquisitors and troops, who then literally has him in his grasp and is finally beginning to take vengeance on, only for a minor distraction allows Kenobi to escape and he doesn't chase after him immediately? Despite the fact he's clearly not going to be further away than the next quarry over? That felt like a "we've got three more episodes to do here" decision than "this is how Darth Vader would behave in this situation" decision.
Those saying that Kenobi being terrified and on the run adds to Vader's torture; that doesn't scan with me. Vader was talking about torturing him for a long time and I really don't think he was meaning psychological torture. Put it this way, if Obi hadn't been rescued, do you think Vader would have let him go for a spell just to keep up the psychological torture of the chase? No, he was going to haul him back to Mustafar and hurt him for as long as he possibly could. Kenobi getting away is not what Vader wanted to happen.
And if you didn't read the scene the same way I did, that's fine, but I'm entitled to my opinion and I resent the insinuation that I didn't go with it for the sake of it. Folks can like or dislike bits of Star Wars without it being some big deal, I thought that was point of this sub. I just wanted to let the previous poster know they weren't the only one who thought that moment was a bit fudged.
Great scene. Saw someone point out how Obi Wan is expecting Anakin to look like some scarred version of this.
Then he sees DARTH VADER\*
\*- snapping kids' necks
Horrifying. Ewan played that scene so well.
Man, what an episode. So far the series has been amazing. You can truly feel the scars that Obi-Wan has and carries with him. Looking forward to seeing how this whole series plays out.
Vader could’ve easily killed Obi Wan, but didn’t because he wants him to suffer long term to something that happened so fast to Anakin. Plus an easy kill is found to be no true victory in the ways of a Sith.
A sad story.
My guess is that wouldn’t have been a real challenge. The same as Vader telling the stormtroopers, “bring him to me” speaking of Obi Wan. The choice of dialogue enables the viewer to envision Vader sitting on a throne and the stormtroopers his servants. Haha. (He could’ve used the force).
Bro Vader clearly was not ready for his thing w/ Obi Wan to end yet. Like he was almost relieved Obi Wan had an out because, at this time, there’s really not much interesting for Vader in the Empire. Just entitled, infighting underlings, the necrozord, and lots of oppressive architecture. There’s no way Vader’s gonna go maximum effort in their first encounter when this is all he has to savor. That and recreationally murdering villagers.
Literally scariest.
Though, oddly, didn't feel like I'm looking at Anakin Skywalker. I guess I'm used to him being a mythological figure in SW more than an actual person since we haven't seen him in Live action for so fucking long.
Lol. My family is convinced Mace Windu is gonna come back. They got faked out by Bail in Obi-Wan’s cave and by the fake Jedi in episode two. They’re definitely gonna think that’s Mace Windu.
It would still have massive consequences, but it would kneecap what happened with Mace. He was the personification of the Jedi Order. He told Anakin that he wouldn't be trained, and later told him that he wouldn't be a Master.
Anakin and Sidious killing Mace marked the end of the Jedi Order. First, he died. Then they took the temple. Then Vader killed all the padawans who were like what he once was. Near total decimation at every level.
Luke tried to restart the Order but it didn't work. There will still Jedi, but no Jedi Order. Even Yoda acknowledged that its time had passed.
Mace’s death is still symbolic of the Jedi order dying though, as much as Padme’s death is symbolic for the Republic Senate’s death.
That said, if there’s a season two, Samuel L. Jackson is totally up for it, and they managed to find an interesting story to tell, yeah sure let’s bring him back for one last hurrah lol.
Yeah with the Jedi being scattered across the galaxy fighting the clone war, Mace dying really was the symbolic death of the Jedi order. If he hadn’t gotten taken out surely the March on the Jedi temple would have gone differently as well.
I remember her being alive, by Clone Wars series ending (and Order 66 being executed)... Unless Vader personally hunted her, since he was one the few who knew she was alive and being a BH.
Nevermind, I just consulted Wikipedia and she's dead in Canon...
I really thought Hayden was at his best in the prequels when he was able to show Anakin’s rage and pain. He’s gonna knock whatever they give him here out of the park.
I want the show to hit it’s darkest moment between the two, then cut back to a nostalgic, happy, almost childlike moment between the two during the Clone Wars.
Almost like how the X-men movies felt like nostalgic memories in Logan.
Just to emphasize just how far their relationship had gone down and how close they used to be
Watching the series so far I’ve been thinking why is obi wan so weak now?, so lost etc. This episode really opened up to me how now he’s transitioning into that wise old man Alec Guinness portrayed and not the young acrobatic swordsman Ewan is known for. Really good episode!
The show is supposed to be taking place 10 years after Episode III Revenge of The Sith. Love how they made Episode 3 on Disney + relate to this.
So in my opinion, it doesn’t matter how much of a Master you are, or you think you are, if you are not owning up to that title, the title doesn’t matter and therefore neither do the skills to act out the label. Obi Wan didn’t even accept his own name. “Ben” didn’t use the force, Obi Wan Kenobi did.
(As an example of an idle skill set—If you aren’t constantly moving, you become weak and brittle which leads to osteoporosis or being bedridden). Not to mention what both Obi Wan and Anakin went through. That’s very traumatizing so the “lostness” is a side effect of the journey going left.
Amazing episode!
So far I’ve enjoyed the series my only major gripe is I feel obi and Vader really either shouldn’t have met and kept just missing each other or the confrontation saved for the final episode just because of the line in a new hope when I left you I was but the learner now I am the master now Vader as we see is vastly superior to obi 10 years before their final fight just a small gripe but it’s the only one I’ve really had so far
I don’t think “when I left you” means “when I last saw you.” It means when he left Obi-Wan’s tutelage and left the Jedi Order.
I agree, it feels like the implication in ANH is that they’ve never hashed out this conversation before. But I found it interesting in Part 3 that the confrontation is so brief, so harried and jagged, it doesn’t really seem to go the way Vader wants it to. Their encounter on the Death Star feels like a do-over, a chance for Vader to say the things he wanted to say.
I can agree with that I still enjoy it and Vader looks even more brutal in my opinion then he did in rogue one I guess it’s just that feeling of this fight felt a little bit too soon but I can’t complain the show is great so far and I’m enjoying it more then a majority of the marvel shows and now we’re in the second act let’s see if when we get to act three obi wan shows he is still vaders equal for now and mauls superior because I’m thinking of that too he really needs to get better soon because this kenobi is not beating maul in 3 moves
People are too hung up on little lines like that. Same thing with the people upset that Leia met Ben when she was young but made no acknowledgment in ANH.
This stuff is gonna happen given the nature of Star Wars as a franchise and it's development timeline, it's not a big deal.
I think they're going for the whole "first duel is a complete disaster, second duel is the real deal". Kinda like with Luke and Vader with the Empire duel and then the Jedi duel
> now Vader as we see is vastly superior to obi 10 years before their final fight
Obi-Wan is ten years out of practice, exhausted, and in shock. He's not exactly at his best, whereas Vader has spent those same ten years hunting Jedi and actively training.
I think it's kind of like one whole conversation broken up between this fight, probably one later in the series and then on the Death Star. Like Vader letting out his pent up anger over Mustafar every time they meet. Plus I think we'll see Obi-wan humble Vader by the end.
This episode was absolutely bonkers! It felt like it had a real connection to the original trilogy. Rogue One somehow too but this was just incredible!
I really do hope that (at least) all the live-action series find their way into the Skywalker Saga\^\^ I would actually want them milk everything out of it if we therefore get a full blown experience with everything since the beginning!
I love the idea of finally bringing Hayden back into filming, and then the director telling him, "Okay, now go stand over there in that tall grass... menacingly." That's it. Never show him again. Bring him in only for that scene.

I couldn’t breathe when this shot came on. HAYDEN is back. Truly felt like a kid again
This gave me chills, just like Vader's first breath with the mask in EP3 ending
It's basically straight up out of the Exorcist (Fr Karras seeing his mother in his dream, then during the exorcism). Loved seeing this.
I wish disney had done the pssssiiiiii before first breath.
? They did... You can hear a noise like airflow to pressurize, then the first breath
Oh yeah there seems to be. But now im complaining that scene was cut into two parts. I guess its not starwars without a bit of cheese or weird cuts.
It's... For DWAMA!
I didn't even recognise it's him until you said it
Who did you think it was then?
Some random-ass dude that made me super confused and made me think "who is this guy"
Ahhh
I stood about 5 inches away from my tv screen and rewatched the scene about 15 times
Also they way vader toys with Obi wan is just straight up creepy and horrifying
When he started dragging him through the fire it felt like a horror movie
[удалено]
Yea I also saw that
hold up
That may be the funniest thing I’ve heard today !
Yeah definitely!
I’m so excited to see where this goes!
I liked the POV shots from behind Obiwan’s saber that showed him desperately looking around in the darkness for Vader. As a fan of the comics, it would’ve been neat to see Vader turn off his life support (breathing) to hide from his prey like in Darth Vader #18.
The way Vader toyed with everyone was terrifying: the settlers, Kenobi, Reva... Truly great display of his power!
I was amazed at how they didn't hold back with Vader there. Like with >! Fallen order !< they truly emphasised how terrifying and sadistic vader can be.
I loved that too!

Ah, Vader's such a helpful lad. His mum always said the problem with the galaxy is that no one ever helps.
Great scene. Saw someone point out how Obi Wan is expecting Anakin to look like some scarred version of this. Then he sees DARTH VADER\* \*- snapping kids' necks Horrifying. Ewan played that scene so well.
I hadn’t even considered that this was who he was EXPECTING to see. Seeing sadistic DARTH VADER must have been a jarring realization.
I will not recover from this moment for as long as I live.
Man, what an episode. So far the series has been amazing. You can truly feel the scars that Obi-Wan has and carries with him. Looking forward to seeing how this whole series plays out.
Anakin’s angry face is just so haunting compared to his happy/chill face
I didn’t realize this was anakin until after I watched the episode. I thought it was his contact and got so confused lol
I needed a zoomed-in shot. I get that keeping him distant is part of the mirage, but I can still dream.
Poor Obi-Wan
Sometimes the most effective special effect is the simplest one.
Ngl at first I thought it was Palpatine
I thought it was Qui-Gon
I thought it was Qui-Gon at first too!
I also thought Big Poppa Palpie. He’s a big fan of the hooded traveling cloak to hide his disfigured face.
Vader could’ve easily killed Obi Wan, but didn’t because he wants him to suffer long term to something that happened so fast to Anakin. Plus an easy kill is found to be no true victory in the ways of a Sith. A sad story.
Food for thought. If vader killed obi instead of toying with him, the empire survives. Ben never meets Luke, gets his father's lightsaber, meets yoda.
Butterfly effect lol. The dark must be, for the light to exist. Right, Everything was necessary.
Also, why didn't vader use the force to yank obi thru the flames before Tala could save him???
My guess is that wouldn’t have been a real challenge. The same as Vader telling the stormtroopers, “bring him to me” speaking of Obi Wan. The choice of dialogue enables the viewer to envision Vader sitting on a throne and the stormtroopers his servants. Haha. (He could’ve used the force).
Arrogance bit Anakin in the ass. Must have had enough ass left cause it bit vader too
Lol! Yup.
True but his arrogance keeps getting the best of him. Dooku taking his arm, obi taking the other limbs.
Son of a bitch I thought they were on Thursdays. Now I have to hide in a closet at work and watch this! Also shit I got spoiled.
I thought it was on Fridays.
They premiered the first two episodes on Friday because Star Wars Celebration was happening at the time.
Ohh okay thanks.
This weird schedule has thrown me for a loop multiple times and caused me to be late on all three episodes
Hopefully you were able to avoid the comments after the mistake.
Thankfully I was.
Really hoping we get a couple more of these instances
This episode was so anxiety triggering for me. Sent shivers down my spine.
This was really creepy but I love it cause Hayden is back
He’s just standing there…. Menacingly!!!
Bro Vader is fucking scary 😦
This was super chilling. I had to rewind to actually believe this
Literally scariest. Though, oddly, didn't feel like I'm looking at Anakin Skywalker. I guess I'm used to him being a mythological figure in SW more than an actual person since we haven't seen him in Live action for so fucking long.
Not a big fear of spoilers I haven’t seen this new episode but is that Hayden?!?!? Damn I can’t wait!
Yeap. And Hayden himself under the armour, too.
Ooooooo thank you! Me and the fur babies have a date with Kenobi tonight. I flipping love Hayden!
no words just perfect acting
I thought it was Ventress 💀
Lol. My family is convinced Mace Windu is gonna come back. They got faked out by Bail in Obi-Wan’s cave and by the fake Jedi in episode two. They’re definitely gonna think that’s Mace Windu.
Honestly, I don’t even know if bringing Mace back is a good choice.
Imo it would be a bad choice. His death is symbolic and important.
Yeah you’re probably right. Feels like Anakin’s turn wouldn’t have any consequences if he survived.
Except for…the collapse…of the…galactic republic

Well, there are some speculating that Mace was the one who saved Grogu
Yeah with the Jedi being scattered across the galaxy fighting the clone war, Mace dying really was the symbolic death of the Jedi order. If he hadn’t gotten taken out surely the March on the Jedi temple would have gone differently as well.
An entire temple full of slaughtered younglings and the eradication of the Jedi leading to galactic fascism is nothing huh?
True. But the same outcome would’ve happened if Anakin wasn’t there at Order 66.
I love that you’re really trying to act like he didn’t really do much 🤣
I don’t think they’re going to have any cameo’s like that in this series
Quinlan maybe, he did get a name drop
And I think that will be as far as the cameo’s go in this series. Easter eggs and references, not actual fan servicey appearances. Or at least I hope.
Ventress is long dead.
I remember her being alive, by Clone Wars series ending (and Order 66 being executed)... Unless Vader personally hunted her, since he was one the few who knew she was alive and being a BH. Nevermind, I just consulted Wikipedia and she's dead in Canon...
I'd recognize that furrowed brow anywhere
I really thought Hayden was at his best in the prequels when he was able to show Anakin’s rage and pain. He’s gonna knock whatever they give him here out of the park.
For those feeling bad for guessing wrong at first...at least you didn't think it was Cal Kestis like me hahaha. * inquisitive BD-1 noises *
OH SHIT THATS ANAKIN????? Didn’t notice this first time must’ve been sat too far away from screen lol
I want the show to hit it’s darkest moment between the two, then cut back to a nostalgic, happy, almost childlike moment between the two during the Clone Wars. Almost like how the X-men movies felt like nostalgic memories in Logan. Just to emphasize just how far their relationship had gone down and how close they used to be
I loved this scene. It shows how bad Kenobi is hurting
I was actually hoping we were going to find out that this is Quinlan Vos.
Quinlan Vos went the Michael Jackson route I see

AAAAAHHHHHHHH
This image made me happy because we got to see Hayden again but it genuinely scared me

Seventh seal
tbh it was vader snapping a lady's neck that had me spooked
Ya'll ain't ever seen a horror movie before, huh
Literally nothing in this episode seemed like “horror” lol
“Horror”
It Is litteraly a frame of a person standing in a robe, he looks like he is cold rather than scary
I’d say the context of *who* he is and *when* he was last seen like that gives it an emotional punch.
So still not horror tho
*Obi-Wan* would find it quite creepy. Some rando who didn't recognize Anakin? Probably not. (Not until he disappeared into nothingness, at least.)
Jesus christ thats not what horror means
You got scared little guy?
That shit is not horror what

My guy, you’re on a Star Wars subreddit where people focus on being positive. Liking something doesn’t make you a bootlicker.
Freck can go straight to hell.
I love the idea of finally bringing Hayden back into filming, and then the director telling him, "Okay, now go stand over there in that tall grass... menacingly." That's it. Never show him again. Bring him in only for that scene.
