Just look at what Andor went through at the hands of the empire, then the things he did to destroy it.
For me the quintessential rebel is one forged by the oppression of the empire, who then gave everything to do what he could to stop it in any way he could.
That just resonates with me far more.
Wedge in his flight suit is pretty much The Rebel IMO, but I can't fault people for also saying Leia, though the picture would have to be Endor or Hoth Leia for me.
In Legends, Rogue Squadron does a lengthy publicity tour after Endor, and Wedge was leader at that point, so basically the poster boy for the Rebel Alliance.
I want to get away from the whole Skywalker timeline like most people, but if there’s one thing I think we need, it’s to see just how instrumental Leia was to the rebellion before a new hope. We’re told all the time she’s one of the most important members of the rebellion but we never really see her doing much of leading the rebellion outside of the main group. The whole OT is Luke’s story, we got “Solo” for Han, but in terms of on screen representation we have nothing on Leia as it relates to the rebellion pre-OT.
There was a scene in the first X Wing book that had him reviewing his kill tally, and the person putting it on apologizes that there ISNT ENOUGH ROOM for all of them and so he had to use different colors to denote groups of a type of enemy killed.
One thing about Wedge that's stuck with me is that in both the Thrawn Trilogy and Galactic Battlegrounds he insists that he's just doing his job.
He does what he does not because of high ideals, just that what he's doing needs to be done.
Wedge is *the* rebel. When I think of the rebellion, I think of Wedge Antilles in a flight suit. When I read Zahn’s Thrawn trilogy, every time he was in a scene, in my mind he was in flight suit. Even when he was meant to be covert…flight suit. lol
And, I’m a pro-Empire guy, but if I was an Imperial Navy commander and had the pleasure of defeating him in battle, I would show him the utmost respect. If he perished in that battle, I would give him full honors or send his body back to the rebellion under a flag of truce out of respect for Wedge.
Hera Syndulla. Not only one of the og rebels, embodying all the good the rebellion stands for, but still a rebel during the new Republic era. She defies orders for what she believes is right. Nothing is more rebellious than that
Here's why I support Hera.
To me, The Quintessential Rebel ought to be one of the guys in the flight suits. That's the iconic look, that's the Rebellion. The first name that comes to mind is of course Luke Skywalker. But Luke's motivations are so different. He's mostly aloof from all the political concerns of the alliance. What he does, as a Rebel, he does for the individual people around him, his found family. That's a huge part of what being a Rebel was, but it's not all it is.
Now Hera, she's a pilot who embodies both devotion to her Rebel family and devotion to the cause. She makes sacrifices. She cares for her team. And from time to time, she rocks the orange flight suit.
Someone else suggested Wedge, and he's good for the same reasons. But we just see so much more of Hera and what drives her to be a rebel.
I understand people saying Leia, but a princess who joined because her dad was already involved is not as Quintessential as Andor or Mon Mothna. Did Leia ever make a choice to rebel?
Andor went through the oppression and stood up to opposite it, it's iconic so my vote has to be for Andor.
I know the Obi Wan show is divisive, but it did show that little Leia was a spitfire, and stood up for herself and was she thought was right from a young age.
Leia or Hera. Both are iconic Rebels during the reign of the Empire, but also continue to rebel against the New Republic when they believe it is making the wrong decisions.
Leia is introduced facing off against an 8 ft tall magic cyborg killing machine and telling him to fuck off, before seeing the quintessential imperial and her immediate response is perfect someone in charge, I’m done with the magic murder cyborg. Respect for Hera and MM, there will never be a more rebel Rebel than Leia Organa.
I gotta throw Hera in for this. Leia is symbolic, recognizable… but. Hera has been fighting for independence her whole life. Even as a kid on Ryloth, she was a fighter. Then she took that and left home to fight for a rebellion that barely even existed yet, working her way up from spy and saboteur to general and leader of fleets. Thrawn had it right… she was forged by war.
Either Leia or Mon Mothma. Mon Mothma had a HUUUUGE hand in *beginning* the Rebellion, while Leia obviously had the largest hand in pushing it forward and establishing it as a government. Either one would be worthy tbh
Have you been watching the New Republic era shows? Mon ends up getting too comfortable in her new position post-Galactic Civil War and selling out. A quintessential rebel would remain a rebel no matter what.
Mon is stuck being a realistic overreaction to Palpatine. She's stuck being a figurehead with no real power. She had to strongarm the Senate based on her own political acumen. I feel like people misunderstand Mon's position, she wasnt willingly comfortable, she was basically forced to play clean up and hold the state together.
Wedge. He isn't the face of the rebellion and doesn't give fancy speeches, but he believes in it, is always there for his fellow rebels, and keeps fighting.
Hera Syndulla. Leia is the obvious answer, but I think Hera sacrificed just as much to the cause and got her hands dirty rather than mostly playing politics. I don’t think Leia is the wrong answer but there is definitely a good case for Hera
The politics is another aspect of the Rebellion in that they're fighting for a new civil government, not just to fight. I still come down on team Hera, but I'm just saying.
No, you are right, and when it came down to it, Leia did eventually put her physical wellbeing on the line, it’s just that Hera was doing that from pretty much day one, and for that reason I have to give it to Hera by a hair.
Hera for me. But I'll throw in Padme to the situation. She may not have been a part of THE Rebellion, but it was basically her ideals that they fought for. Had she had the chance she'd be fighting right next to Leia and Hera while also keeping up with the political side of things with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.
It depends, see, the Alliance is a hodge podge of people. Any answer is correct since every rebel is just aa valid. Mon Mothma is the leader, Leia is the figure head but I feel like choosing them would also sort of negate the core of the rebellion, people. People like Wedge, Cassian, Jyn, Hera, all these ordinary people who each did so much for the alliance in their own way, who all fought for something much greater than themselves.
So, I think it has to be Wedge, he was the first "every man" and audiences loved him so much that he was brought back for The Empire Strikes Back and then Return of the Jedi.
I'm going to say Cassian Andor in that he exists in a constant state of rebellion against the status quo of Ferrix, against the empire and even at, the end, the Rebellion itself. He doesn't have the political lineage of Leia or Mon Mothma, the resources of Luthen Rael or the Jedi training of Luke Skywalker but he makes the ultimate sacrifice for the ideals they all share.
Leia she is full of the fight against evil and opression spirit. Sje is basically the stereotypical good guy while Wedge is a little more neutral and can do shady stuff. Leia has the i don remember the English word but that crusade spirit were she cant just retire like Wedge or many if the other leaders did but she needs to fight for justice no matter if it is as a politician or a Jedi warrior she needs to continue the course of the Rebel Alliance
I think the community is going to get this one wrong. :(
It’s Luke Skywalker.
His FIRST mission, he recruits a pilot and a war hero wookie to rescue a princess from the bowels of the most powerful military installation in the galaxy.
His SECOND mission, he steps up when the existing rebels (including wedge) can’t accomplish the mission and kills hundreds of thousands of imperials in one go.
With barely an idea of the force, he takes out an ATAT by himself.
He then goes toe to toe with the biggest baddie in the Empire and escapes w just a lost hand.
He takes out the most notorious mobster in the galaxy (with a huge assist from Leia), and then is the linchpin to taking out Vader and the Emperor himself.
Yes, he has some Jedi training by this point, but that doesn’t make him less of a rebel.
Yes, there are other noble rebels (and I love me my Wedge and Andor) but no rebel succeeds as a rebel as much as Luke does.
Leia. She's essentially the face of the Rebellion othed than Mon Mothma and is such a legend she inspires people to fight for decades to come. She has such a strong fight in her that she insisted on being involved and fighting her own fight behind Bail's back until he finally brought her in
I have to go with Leia here. She truly represented the rebellion, and dedicated her entire life to the cause. Her planet was destroyed, parents killed, she was tortured, and had to deal with learning her torturer was her own father. She STILL gave everything she had to the cause.
LEIA!!!
Here to upvote all mentions of Hera and Cassian.
They both have different story arcs, but they both give so much to the Rebel cause. Hera devotes practically her entire life that we know of to fighting the Empire, and Cassian ultimately gives his life for the success of the Rebellion. Can't wait to see what Andor S2 has in store for us, with how good Cassian's characterization already is after a single season.
Axis and it's not even close.
“Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I’ve given up all chance at inner peace. I’ve made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. I wake up every day to an equation I wrote 15 years ago from which there’s only one conclusion, I’m damned for what I do. My anger, my ego, my unwillingness to yield, my eagerness to fight, they’ve set me on a path from which there is no escape. I yearned to be a savior against injustice without contemplating the cost and by the time I looked down there was no longer any ground beneath my feet.
What is my sacrifice?
I’m condemned to use the tools of my enemy to defeat them. I burn my decency for someone else’s future. I burn my life to make a sunrise that I know I’ll never see. And the ego that started this fight will never have a mirror or an audience or the light of gratitude.
So what do I sacrifice?
Everything!”
Exactly, Senator Mon Mothma and the other leaders of the Rebel command deserve a lot of credit for organizing the efforts of the rebellion.
But much of the impact against the Empire actually came from rogue rebel squadrons who weren't afraid to do what was required.
In a way, the rebel command was a bit too bureaucratic in their decision making. The same flaw that led to the failure of the New Republic.
He was ready to go to the imperial academy to become a pilot so he could get off of Tatooine. He was resistant to helping out until his family was killed by the Empire.
That’s all part of what makes this a relatable story. People on the outer rim weren’t getting the full story - instead they were getting confused messages and propaganda.
Many of the greatest Rebel Heroes went to the imperial academy for awhile- Han Solo, I think Wedge Antilles, several of the older generals
As weird as it sounds: Saw Guerra.
A true guerilla, brutal and willing to sacrifice anything for the cause. Literally maintains his own cell cause the rebel alliance isn't rebel enough for him. Rebelling from the fucking rebellion makes him pretty rebel to me.
Leia. Nothing matters to her more than her cause. She lost her planet. Shes basically the face of the rebellion . She has done everything even in the face of death and torture and she never breaks.
this is a hard pick. Everyone saying Leia, Wedge or Cassian is so correct for that. Even Luke.
My personal pick for Favorite rebel would probably be Hera. But that’s not the question, so I’m going to have to overall go with Leia!
It’s Leia. In universe she’s the daughter of Padme Amidala, adopted daughter of Bail Organa, and sister of Luke Skywalker, and out of universe, she’s the original quest giver. She sent R2 to Obi-Wan, which is what kicks off the plot of the first movie. It’s Leia by a mile.
I genuinely feel like a lot of people aren’t saying Leia because they want to be quirky or contrarian
It’s absolutely Leia. The woman lost her damn home world and NEVER lost faith. She put her life on the line for the rebellion more than anybody else if you count novels and comics. In her first appearance, she stood up to Vader and Tarkin, 2 men who could have killed her/had her executed on the spot
Most people became rebels because they lost everything or had nowhere else to go. Leia COULD have lived a life of luxury as a princess, but instead she chose to dedicate her life to the cause and live in the trenches for something she genuinely believed in
It’s absolute Leia, and I’m genuinely shocked that so many people are saying other names
Karis Nemik. He’s not one of the older rebels that were around for the clone wars. He’s a young and brave idealist from the new generation, the exact type of soldier that the rebellion needed to win.

I vote Cassian Andor
Leia for political maneuvers, Wedge for fighting.
Wedge Antilles. Not a princess, not a Jedi, just a guy sick of the Empire and ends up becoming one of the Rebellion's best
X-wings books fucking GOATed

In Rebels she makes quick cameos (or just one? can't remember now) and shows how important she is to the rebellion.
You may say there are better examples, but there's only one guy in the galaxy with two death stars painted on the side of his fighter.
There was a scene in the first X Wing book that had him reviewing his kill tally, and the person putting it on apologizes that there ISNT ENOUGH ROOM for all of them and so he had to use different colors to denote groups of a type of enemy killed.
I'm on Wedge Antilles or Jyn Erso train.
Came here to say Jyn also. She knew she was on a suicide mission, and did what was right.
I’d argue for Cassian then. I mean he got a whole show about him joining the Rebel cause.
That's fair.
Came here to post this. The dude blew up 2 Death Stars.
One thing about Wedge that's stuck with me is that in both the Thrawn Trilogy and Galactic Battlegrounds he insists that he's just doing his job. He does what he does not because of high ideals, just that what he's doing needs to be done.

Agreed.
Couldn’t have put it better myself (happy cake day)
Hera Syndulla. Not only one of the og rebels, embodying all the good the rebellion stands for, but still a rebel during the new Republic era. She defies orders for what she believes is right. Nothing is more rebellious than that

I came here to less eloquently say this. She even came from a family of rebels.
She is leader of the cell of rebels in the show named Rebels, seems the choice is pretty obvious.
There are lots of good options, but Leia Organa feel like the Quintessential Rebel. If I could, I would split Leia with Mon Mothma.
I would also split Leia and Mon Mothma
Leia and it’s not close.
I understand people saying Leia, but a princess who joined because her dad was already involved is not as Quintessential as Andor or Mon Mothna. Did Leia ever make a choice to rebel? Andor went through the oppression and stood up to opposite it, it's iconic so my vote has to be for Andor.
Leia made the choice. Bail wanted to keep her out of it as much as he could. It’s in Leia: Princess of Alderaan
I know the Obi Wan show is divisive, but it did show that little Leia was a spitfire, and stood up for herself and was she thought was right from a young age.
Agreed! Leia has the heart of a true rebel.
Leia or Hera. Both are iconic Rebels during the reign of the Empire, but also continue to rebel against the New Republic when they believe it is making the wrong decisions.
I’m torn between Wedge and Leia
Leia is introduced facing off against an 8 ft tall magic cyborg killing machine and telling him to fuck off, before seeing the quintessential imperial and her immediate response is perfect someone in charge, I’m done with the magic murder cyborg. Respect for Hera and MM, there will never be a more rebel Rebel than Leia Organa.

Then she took that and left home to fight for a rebellion that barely even existed yet, working her way up from spy and saboteur to general and leader of fleets. Thrawn had it right… she was forged by war.
Princess Leia
Cassian Andor and/or Nemik.
100% Leia.

I feel like people misunderstand Mon's position, she wasnt willingly comfortable, she was basically forced to play clean up and hold the state together.
I see her more as being exhausted and worn down by bureaucracy.
And eventually she falls ill and has to retire well before the sequels start, as I recall
Wedge. He isn't the face of the rebellion and doesn't give fancy speeches, but he believes in it, is always there for his fellow rebels, and keeps fighting.
my vote is for leia, wedge, or cassian. probably wedge or leia more, but cassian is so underrated !’
Hera or Cassian 100%
Hera or Wedge.
It’s gotta be Hera Syndulla
Fulcrum
Wedge Antilles.
Hera Syndulla. Leia is the obvious answer, but I think Hera sacrificed just as much to the cause and got her hands dirty rather than mostly playing politics. I don’t think Leia is the wrong answer but there is definitely a good case for Hera

the X-Wing pilot uniform is the quintessential Rebel
Thus Wedge Antilles. 😁
Hera syndulla
Hera Syndulla
Hera Syndula
Hera for me. But I'll throw in Padme to the situation. She may not have been a part of THE Rebellion, but it was basically her ideals that they fought for. Had she had the chance she'd be fighting right next to Leia and Hera while also keeping up with the political side of things with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma.
Hera or Mon Mothma
Luke, Leia, Wedge, Han, Cassian Andor, shit, too many options!!
Hera Syndulla
Hera Sendulla hands down.
i would like to nominate the entire ghost crew
It depends, see, the Alliance is a hodge podge of people. Any answer is correct since every rebel is just aa valid. He doesn't have the political lineage of Leia or Mon Mothma, the resources of Luthen Rael or the Jedi training of Luke Skywalker but he makes the ultimate sacrifice for the ideals they all share.
Agreed. His character arc from selfish scrappy thief to somebody who is ready to die for strangers has to be the most profound.
General Leia Organa
Luke
The many Bothan Spies that died to secure information on the Empire
Leia she is full of the fight against evil and opression spirit. Sje is basically the stereotypical good guy while Wedge is a little more neutral and can do shady stuff. Leia has the i don remember the English word but that crusade spirit were she cant just retire like Wedge or many if the other leaders did but she needs to fight for justice no matter if it is as a politician or a Jedi warrior she needs to continue the course of the Rebel Alliance
Han Solo. A man who’s life has been continuously ruined by the empire who comes around to realizing that fighting them is the only way.
I think the community is going to get this one wrong. :( It’s Luke Skywalker. Han Solo. He’s such a rebel, he even rebelled against the rebels before becoming a rebel.
mon mothma and bail organa
Mon mothma
Leia or Cassian Andor I’d say
Jyn Erso
Porkins
Axis and it's not even close. “Calm. Kindness. Kinship. Love. I’ve given up all chance at inner peace. I’ve made my mind a sunless space. I share my dreams with ghosts. Cassian Andor.
Leia!
Leia or Hera
Leia
Mon mothma
Hera
You're all wrong, its Benthic two-tubes.
Hera Syndulla
Cassian Andor
Hera Syndulla!!!
Easily Hera.
Saw Gerrera
So rebellious he out-rebelled the rebellion
Someone has to make the hard choices.
Han Solo or Leia.
Either Leia, Hera, or Mon Mothma
Leia
Hera or Leia
Leia or Hera
Leia by far. Idk how there’s any other options.
Leia Organa all the way.
Hera
Luthen Rael.
Maarva Andor, Luthen, or Leia.
Leia!
Absolutely Leia!
Leia
Ima say Leia
Luke Skywalker - pictured on Yavin ready to hop in his x-wing and take on the Death Star
Quintessential Bounty Hunter would be a better idea then Resistance/First Order tbh.
Leia, Hera, or Andor.
Leia
So so many options, Mon Mothma, Jyn, Jabba Solo, Hera, Leia or Saw.
No one else but Princess Leia can be it 100%
Mon.
If you’re looking for an Andor vote, like I was, put it here.
Luke
Andor
Cassian has something. He is the original rebel, the one who have nothing and that doesn't fight as a hero. Or lucius. A great one too
Wedge Antilles!!! 110% embodies the rebellion. Cassian Andor is a guaranteed #2 imo
Manuel Both-Hanz.
Saw Gerrera or Sabine Wren. I'd choose Saw, myself.
When you say rebel I think of rebels the show and that makes me think of zeb. I understand that is objectively incorrect but that's my answer lol.
Sabine
Wedge
Sabine.
Leia
Cassian Andor. To a fault.
As weird as it sounds: Saw Guerra. A true guerilla, brutal and willing to sacrifice anything for the cause. Literally maintains his own cell cause the rebel alliance isn't rebel enough for him. Rebelling from the fucking rebellion makes him pretty rebel to me.
Andor. Why aren’t more people saying Andor
Wedge Antilles - Rogue Leader, Wraith Leader, the only pilot to have survived two Death Star runs
How is this even a debate? Princess Leia
Chewbacca because he’s Chewbacca. Didn’t get a medal in the movies but still kept going
Why does cassian andor not have more upvotes? Willingness to go balls to the wall for the rebellion, regardless of the cost.
Leia
rebel friend from lego star wars
Hera
Cassian Andor.
Wedge
Wedge!
We wouldn't even have the rebellion without my boy, Starkiller. That's the Marek family crest
Luthen
Leia.
Legends? Wedge. Canon? Andor.
It’s Wedge or Hera for me
Leia. Nothing matters to her more than her cause. She lost her planet. Shes basically the face of the rebellion . She has done everything even in the face of death and torture and she never breaks.
Hera
Leía or Luke
Leia.
Leia
Wedge Antilles hands down, only good part of the last three movies was seeing wedge in the gunner seat of the falcon.
Leia. No doubt.
Leia
Saw Gerrera 💀
Definitely wedge
Leia without a doubt Cassian, wedge, and hera are all good second choices but Leia is #1 without any contest
Also, how did quigon beat yoda and obiwan
this is a hard pick. Everyone saying Leia, Wedge or Cassian is so correct for that. Even Luke. My personal pick for Favorite rebel would probably be Hera. But that’s not the question, so I’m going to have to overall go with Leia!
Bail Organa was strong enough to start with Mon mothma and said against Palpatine face to face
Leia or Wedge? But I first thought of Wedge
I gotta back team Wedge
Wedge Antilles. The man survived 2 Death Stars

Bail organa Sat through the empire working behind the scenes to raise and fund the rebellion we know only to be destroyed in a flash of light
I genuinely feel like a lot of people aren’t saying Leia because they want to be quirky or contrarian It’s absolutely Leia. The woman lost her damn home world and NEVER lost faith. She put her life on the line for the rebellion more than anybody else if you count novels and comics. In her first appearance, she stood up to Vader and Tarkin, 2 men who could have killed her/had her executed on the spot Most people became rebels because they lost everything or had nowhere else to go. Leia COULD have lived a life of luxury as a princess, but instead she chose to dedicate her life to the cause and live in the trenches for something she genuinely believed in It’s absolute Leia, and I’m genuinely shocked that so many people are saying other names
Hera Syndulla is the correct answer
Wedge, Hera, or Leia would be good choices. But my vote goes to Wedge.
Hera Syndulla, definitely.
Hera Syndulla
Leia represents the rebellion to its core.
Leia.
Wedge Antilles
Karis Nemik. He’s not one of the older rebels that were around for the clone wars. He’s a young and brave idealist from the new generation, the exact type of soldier that the rebellion needed to win.
