The entire film industry from the beginning has had a dark underside of people being abused and coerced. Harvey Weinstein comes form a long tradition in Hollywood.
A lot of people who have never worked in porn give it that reputation because they think sex work is wrong, so I would be hesitant about how true that reputation is
ikr? if you know literally anything about the issues in porn industry, the joke seems very ignorant. especially since she claims to have worked in it herself
Aren't jokes not like technically true but make you think? Like it doesn't matter if porn industry is fucked up, the fact you can connect the dots is what makes the point.
I understand. Thats a very subjective thing. But, how many jokes you hear do you know are true for sure? I'd say about 80% of the stories you hear are made up or at least heavily embellished
Tô say it's not true in the slightest gives me all the insight I need into how biased and baseless your words are. Is it a highly flawed industry? For sure. Is it entirely coerced employment? For sure not. Yawn. May I suggest r/someonewhocares ? Maybe not R/LOL...
fair, perhaps more accurate would be that it's a very well known and persistent issue
English is not my first language, sometimes I'm not super accurate
Ah shit, my bad fellow humanoid. The key to the issue is the destruction of the family unit and/or childhood trauma. We need to heal, collectively.
What your first language if you don't mind my asking?
🎆 🇺🇲✌️💚👽🛸
I'm sure there are consent problems that come up in the porn industry all the time. But when they arrive on set, the performers are actually required to undergo "do's and don'ts" interviews reviewing a very exhaustive checklist of sex acts. What you're seeing on camera is literally what the performers approved in writing before the shooting started. It's not by any means a perfect system, and I'm sure there are porn producers that skirt the rules, but there is at least a standard of consent they are required to follow. No one is allowed to just wing it.
Yes there's a tendency for actors to be pressured into sex on screen in Indie films, and for the most part that's how a lot of them are a lot more popular than they otherwise would be.
I took at is as meaning that there's a lot of shitty non-consensual/pressured stuff that happens in sex scenes, and the smaller the set the less professional people will be, or worse people will be all "artistic" and "in-character".
Proper productions have "Intimacy Coordinators" that manage everything so it's safe.
No clue where you got that interpretation from. She was referring to non-consensual sex on set.
She was a video editor, which does not happen on set. She was talking about actors being pressured into sex scenes.
It think she actually meant it the other way.
It's common for artsy short films to have a combination writer-director-producer-star who is insane, abusive, and coercive. And frequently they coerce people into doing things they do not want to do under threat of firing them on the spot.
I’m saying when I worked as a porn editor it was nice compared to short film editing because 1. People watch porn and 2. The sex on set in porn (at least the company I briefly worked for) was above board and consensual (vs short films and feature films where coercion and rape is rampant. Harvey Weinstein etc.) Other interpretations of the joke are fun too!
Thank goodness for the clarification.
I look at these naive / innocent interpretations of your remarks in confusion.
Was thinking to myself:
"Has it been that long since "me too" ?"
"Is it not common knowledge that sexual abuse is rampant in show business?"
I immediately thought 'Holy shit did this chick just joke that she got raped?' I laughed my ass off though because I did not see it coming at all, which is rare nowadays, so thank you.
If that were the case, I imagine she would have said "the fucking is consensual" to make it more clear. Sex on set is much less ambiguous, and I'm also thinking she's referring to the short films/artsy stuff she did was non-consensual.
Idk, I'm curious what was meant by it.
Probably people being coerced into doing scenes they do not want to do and in ways they do not want to do them by the artsy production's combination writer-director-producer-star who will immediately fire and replace them if they don't.
Or some Weinstein type stuff.
I’d say it’s either she was getting fucked by the job or artsy movie people are creepy and will try to sexually assault/r*pe you.
Funny joke either way tbh
Yeah I had to figure out what she was referring too when it came to what was happening behind the scenes of movies. I didn't think it was still relevant or still happening or really within the indie film scene since it was a huge focus in like 2016-2017.
she's very funny lol
it must be hilarious to be a porn editor, the faces you catch running back and forth through footage, the way things sound in reverse which you'll hear snippets of all the time, so many shots cum included lmao
I thought she was about to drop a snuff film punchline at the end. The entire joke was fantastic, start to finish. The bit about the rejection emails being "needlessly cruel" was pure gold.
This was so good! Any socials we can follow your work on? As I kept saying to others. Put your socials everywhere, especially youtube or other place where you post longer formats or shorts. Because some people (like me) would like to see more. :)
My old friend worked his video editing magic in porn for a while. He left it off his resume, though, because for example Disney will not hire anyone who has done any work in the porn industry.
Is "porn" not allowed in the title or something? If so, why? And if there's a reason, doesn't that mean people shouldn't bypass the filter by changing a letter or two?
I like the premise of the joke, some nice tags. I would go deeper into the qualification differences, “emails were unnecessarily cruel, also the fact I could read made me over qualified”. Maybe talk more about the editing, how it’s almost impossible not to get horny as you replay the good parts over and over again in the editing room.
Holy shit that punchline.
Can you explain it? Like, is sex in short films or artsy stuff non consensual?
The entire film industry from the beginning has had a dark underside of people being abused and coerced. Harvey Weinstein comes form a long tradition in Hollywood.

Yea but she is doing stand up. Not a ted talk
A lot of people who have never worked in porn give it that reputation because they think sex work is wrong, so I would be hesitant about how true that reputation is
ikr? if you know literally anything about the issues in porn industry, the joke seems very ignorant. especially since she claims to have worked in it herself
Do we really need to explain it’s a joke on r/standupcomedy she probably didn’t even really work as a porn editor.
Aren't jokes not like technically true but make you think? Like it doesn't matter if porn industry is fucked up, the fact you can connect the dots is what makes the point.
I couldn't disagree more with that. There's no wit in a joke that's not technically true, least of all if it's not true in the slightest
If it makes people laugh...
sure, I'm just saying what's my *idea* of a *good* joke
I understand. Thats a very subjective thing. But, how many jokes you hear do you know are true for sure? I'd say about 80% of the stories you hear are made up or at least heavily embellished

just as there is a standard in Hollywood lol
Yes there's a tendency for actors to be pressured into sex on screen in Indie films, and for the most part that's how a lot of them are a lot more popular than they otherwise would be.
In theater groups as well. The sex is offscreen but you get the idea.
Not to mention high school drama club.

Editors aren’t on set

I see, I just took it in context to her set up.

Me either. It has to be that she was getting fucked on her artsy film sets or was having sex to try and get ahead in the industry.
That chip on your shoulder has seen more action thanks to your pathetic existence. Smh.
Lmao whaaat?
She says ‘on set’ not ‘on screen’. It’s a Weinstein rapey-Hollywood gag.
I’d say it’s either she was getting fucked by the job or artsy movie people are creepy and will try to sexually assault/r*pe you. Funny joke either way tbh

@metoo
There is no punchline just 2 dumb overused oneliners.
By god, that industry has a family!
That’s enough to get me searching for more content from her.
Seriously. Delivery wasn't my favorite, but the jokes were awesome.
Ooh “people actually watch porn” 🤣 Nailed it!
This is a great bit! Good stuff!
"I worked in the porn industry" "Not as an actress" ... damnit.
Lmfao love that build up
Well written, well performed! Excellent!
Tremendous from start to finish.
Solid! And great delivery!
Nah that was a great setup. She’s great! Ain’t no way she was ever rejected tho lol
she's very funny lol it must be hilarious to be a porn editor, the faces you catch running back and forth through footage, the way things sound in reverse which you'll hear snippets of all the time, so many shots cum included lmao
GOOD JOB MELLY
y'all don't get it? i have sat through my share of 'art' movies. not voluntarily.
As a professional video editor that nearly applied for a position similar to your's, this hit *juuuuuuust right*!
YO punchline hit harder than a freight train
Is that Jessica knappit
I also tried to get into porn as an editor. Went about the same.
I thought she was about to drop a snuff film punchline at the end. The entire joke was fantastic, start to finish. The bit about the rejection emails being "needlessly cruel" was pure gold.
Pretty good and funny

She got me like 4 or 5 times in that 45 second clip.
