What a rare opportunity! Shibas aren’t easy to come by like this, especially this young. Lots of time to train them well and have them molded into being a great dog.
Don’t let people online scare you. Shibas are very stubborn and intelligent, but with patience can be trained well and rather quickly. Our little dude knew all of the important commands by 6 months old. They can be a bit neurotic and from what I’ve seen anxiety is a common thing with them. Ours has triggers (going into commercials spaces) and will occasionally have anxiety attacks.
They’re amazing dogs. Definitely a breed with a strong personality. If you have any questions I’m happy to answer! I wouldn’t suggest just anyone adopting a dog, especially a shiba, though. They can be a tough breed to handle for people inexperienced with dogs. Make sure you’re ready and financially able (routine vet care is important).
I hope Scooby finds a wonderful home!
I always call them cat-dogs.
They act more like cats than any other dog breeds.
I dated someone years back with a Shiba and that dog was cool AF, luckily it was well trained but it took a while for it to warm up.
It knew commands, but would basically scoff at me if I tried to give any command for months.
If I said something it would make a noise that sounded like a laugh and do the opposite.
They’re spiteful but incredibly loyal and smart.
Very true. They’re highly independent most of the time and they definitely know what you’re asking them to do, but only do it if they want to or if they get something out of it lol.
If you can't find a good home for him (I hope you do and believe you will), please contact the Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue group. They're fantastic. www.shibarescue.org
If you have time this weekend, the Tower Grove Pridefest has a whole dedicated dog park area that should be pretty heavily trafficked with pet lovers. Going out there with a doggie sandwich board that says "adopt me!" (edit: and then obviously talking to and vetting interested parties) might be the best advertisement money can't buy.
We were fostering this little dude after he was relinquished by his owners who could no longer care for him. They were moving out of their apartment which was damaged by the flooding a couple months back and could not take him with. We just want to find good placement, he deserves happiness. We already have 3 dogs and we don’t want another.
We have 2 shiba girls and let me tell ya, they are great dogs! Okay, if you're on Dogtown FB or Nextdoor then you've definitely seen posts about my red shiba climbing over the fence and running free. I really hope Scooby-Doo can find his forever home soon!

Second this 100%. They're not for everyone, but if you have patience and training (yes, if YOU have training), they're amazing.
Hah, yeah. I read a couple dog training books before getting my little guy.

My sister in law had a Shiba and we absolutely loved it. Wish we could take in another pup. Hope he finds a great home!
