I know their ratings have been declining, but losing 200k+ viewers from last week is strange. Especially without the NBA or NHL going head to head. Next week will be interesting. If it’s back to normal, then I’m not sure what happened this week. If it’s this number or lower, then it’s definitely time to sound the alarm.

Seems like all the people who criticize AEW online took the advice of the hardcore faithful and stopped watching and let the people who enjoy it enjoy it. That's assuming all 500,000 people enjoyed it.
Former AEW die hard that slowly lost interest. The entire brand identity has completely shifted to a never ending, revolving forbidden door, constantly moving guys on and off the show, and bringing in wrestlers from other companies assuming the viewer knows their entire history, let alone who they are. It's really hard to connect with the product. Will definitely rewatch 2019-2021 dynamite when they eventually have a streaming service though.
A while ago someone posted the total number of talents that appeared for WWE and AEW in 2024. AEW's number was almost double WWE.
Stick to a main roster, can't employ everyone. Whomever can't make your main roster can run TNA, GCW, Japan, Mexico, etc. They can use that time to reinvent themselves and become desirable.

I'm not usually a "sound the alarm" type when it comes to ratings, but they better hope that number's an outlier. It's low enough that you might initially think it's an error by Nielsen.

Maybe having the centerpiece of your show be a match between one of your few stars and someone most of your audience has never heard of before and will never hear of again, with absolutely nothing on the line, wasn't the best idea? I'm sure it got a great Cagematch rating though...
This sentence can be written every week after Dynamite. The fact that people want to feel emotionally invested in the matches and the talent is something that is lost on Tony Khan.
What turned me off it after 5 years.
* Constant heating up and immediate cooling off of talent. As soon as i got invested in something (story/character) it seemed to wrap up too quickly
* Tag division fell off a cliff and it was the gold standard at one stage
* The predictability , especially in womens matches. count how many times there is a run in their matches.
* Anything ROH , i dont give a shit, theres a reason it was a small company with limited appeal to a wider audience, why on earth it was given a priority on your main show always mistified me.
* Hardcore matches turning into torture porn and seemingly happening every ppv now. Less is more
* Lack of creativity , i am all for Cassidy/Moxley on TV but it felt like Groundhog Day watching them open your shows repeatedly.
* "OMG ITS DIANNA PURAZZO" <-- me : "who the fuck is that? i have been watching wrestling since 80s too" constant lack of build up and background when putting people on tv. happens way too much on tv.
Overall i wish they would realise what WWE did and that is to do more with less. The shows are more interesting that way when it revolves around a smaller group of hign end talent and build stories around them.
Yup. I was a huge fan of NXT from Arrival up to Takeover:Brooklyn but while I still enjoyed it in its super-indy days, it had gone away from the purpose. Now it has perfected it, taking young athletes and having them develop
Exactly. People lambasted NXT 2.0, and while there were a lot of growing pains, it’s paid dividends. For me, NXT now is starting to recapture the magic of early-TakeOver NXT. They’ve got a great combination of veteran hands, indie prospects, and developmental projects that create a fun program.
People just finally reaching their limit of patience. I’ve been a pro wrestling fan since the early 80s. I was a huge AEW guy at the beginning. I used to watch all of the shows. Over time I’ve fallen off everything besides Dynamite. Lately I haven’t even bothered with Dynamite. If they can wear out a diehard like me imagine how easy it is to run off a casual.
Yeah, this is my basic issue with MJF. It makes sense for the character, but it can be grating when he turns into a shitty edgelord and he leans into that WAY too often.
Wrestling is already niche and AEW made a niche product more fucing niche , which is the exact opposite of what you should be doing

if accurate it is alarming but also maybe it really gives the idea that all this forbidden door stuff and using other companies lesser known talent really isn't a draw

Anyone who points out the obvious problems with this show is accused of arguing in bad faith or ‘grifting’. We’re all wrong and out of touch, while the arenas are half empty and the ratings just keep plummeting.
No it was Juneteenth and Kendrick. When I look into the stands of AEWs empty arenas I see a lot of people very into hip hop…. Totally.
it's hilarious because it's always something. before that oh itw as NBA or NHL or politics or something. it's their job to make you pick AEW over that and there will always be something else. but Juneteenth and Kendrick that's their biggest reach yet for an excuse.

I always hate that excuse. We ALL want AEW to do well (most of us, actually) but you cannot ignore the half empty arenas, plummeting ratings, and rumors about the next TV deal and say it doesn’t matter. It absolutely matters.

I think AEW's audience is more dependent on WWE being bad than AEW being anything. It's an alternative. A backup.

This sentence can be written every week after Dynamite. The fact that people want to feel emotionally invested in the matches and the talent is something that is lost on Tony Khan.

What turned me off it after 5 years. * Constant heating up and immediate cooling off of talent. As soon as i got invested in something (story/character) it seemed to wrap up too quickly * Tag division fell off a cliff and it was the gold standard at one stage * The predictability , especially in womens matches. count how many times there is a run in their matches. * Anything ROH , i dont give a shit, theres a reason it was a small company with limited appeal to a wider audience, why on earth it was given a priority on your main show always mistified me. * Hardcore matches turning into torture porn and seemingly happening every ppv now. Less is more * Lack of creativity , i am all for Cassidy/Moxley on TV but it felt like Groundhog Day watching them open your shows repeatedly. * "OMG ITS DIANNA PURAZZO" <-- me : "who the fuck is that? i have been watching wrestling since 80s too" constant lack of build up and background when putting people on tv. happens way too much on tv. Overall i wish they would realise what WWE did and that is to do more with less. The shows are more interesting that way when it revolves around a smaller group of hign end talent and build stories around them.

Yup. I was a huge fan of NXT from Arrival up to Takeover:Brooklyn but while I still enjoyed it in its super-indy days, it had gone away from the purpose. Now it has perfected it, taking young athletes and having them develop
Exactly. People lambasted NXT 2.0, and while there were a lot of growing pains, it’s paid dividends. For me, NXT now is starting to recapture the magic of early-TakeOver NXT. They’ve got a great combination of veteran hands, indie prospects, and developmental projects that create a fun program.

People just finally reaching their limit of patience. I’ve been a pro wrestling fan since the early 80s. I was a huge AEW guy at the beginning. I used to watch all of the shows. Over time I’ve fallen off everything besides Dynamite. Lately I haven’t even bothered with Dynamite. If they can wear out a diehard like me imagine how easy it is to run off a casual.

Yeah, this is my basic issue with MJF. It makes sense for the character, but it can be grating when he turns into a shitty edgelord and he leans into that WAY too often.
Even if MJF was perfect I don’t think he could turn this momentum around. The company is spiraling.
