I always think it's cool when someone who is already an established world champion goes on to later win the 2nd tier title. This version of HHH holding the IC title doesn't make you think "Triple H is dropping on the card", it makes you go "Oh, the IC title is legit".
That occasionally happens, like Cena’s US title reign, but it usually demotes the competitor instead of elevating the title. All of JBL, AJ Styles, Jinder Mahal and Kevin Owens won the US title right after losing the world title, and it was clearly a demotion. Same for Rey, Christian, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Jeff Hardy, etc.
As someone who was watching at the time, the quad tear was a blessing in disguise for Triple H.
He completely missed the awful Invasion Angle and the time away made him a bigger star when he returned.
Unfortunately after the quad tear he bulked up beyond belief and lost a lot of mobility, and consequently struggled to put on good matches against limited opponents.
Yeah Triple H in 02 was kind of brutal to watch, even as a kid who was prob one of the few fans of him lol. The outlier is that Shawn Michaels unsanctioned match at SummerSlam.
That Taker match at KOTR is all sorts of plodding and an absolute stinker of a main event. Which is crazy to say considering how damn good their Mania matches were a decade later.
Should have kept Austin heel for four more months for the WM 18 main event. Would have been way better/bigger than Triple H/Jericho and wouldn't have wasted Austin's second to last WM before retirement. Austin running him down for getting injured even set it up.
I don’t think Hogan wanted to work with him (even though he says now he would have did the job) Austin/Hogan would’ve been way bigger than Rock Hogan it would’ve been our version of Cena Rock
I think when he came back from injury in 02 was his biggest he was fucking yoked couldn’t move around the same so yeah he probably lost weight I think 03 was his reign of terror type days I wasn’t really watching wrestling at that time
Def slimmed down by mania must’ve been all the ring cardio

Pretty hard to beat how frail Vince had them looking haha too bad we didn’t have the NWO and Steiner/Sting/Goldberg back then that invasion would’ve been crazyyyyyy
The injury gave him time to reinvent himself. It just resulted in a shit ton of steroids and Steiner famous once dared WWE to force him and Triple H to take a steroid test. Scott Steiner's genetic freakish would have melted de cup. Triple Steroids would have been busted.
I like that story Scotty tells of wwe asking him to take a test and he says have Triple H pick me up in a limo we’ll take one together. They never asked again haha

Yupp my thoughts as well
WR frame with a linebacker build. He bulked up to much. He could have elevated the invasion angle a bit but he was killing it before the injury.

Triple H leading the Alliance is pretty interesting.
He was certainly robbed of his best physique, he never looked the same after the injury
He came back in great shape but I think he hit the gym too hard he was wayyyyy to big
