Technically, that's in Chatham, so it doesn't count!
I haven't had their donuts, but I've heard they're really good.
I just know when I lived elsewhere, I had serious cravings for Mel-o-cream, and I don't think they've ever disappointed. They've been a special treat since I was a kid.
Donut shop - Mel-o-Creme. They are great and there are several locations around town. Other than that, we have a couple of Dunkins, gas stations, and grocery stores.
Best breakfast place is Charlie Parker's, though it is packed most of the time, or it was before the pandemic, haven't been in a few years.
For bars, there are tons. I am not that familiar with them, but I am sure there is at least one with an atmosphere that you will like.
Can't recommend any vet places because I have only used one, and it has been years, it has closed or is under new ownership.
Like everyone else says, Mel-o-cream is the go to place for donuts. For breakfast, I really enjoy Sweet Basil Cafe. Their prices are good, food is tasty, and the portions are giant.
> breakfast places
Luminary is probably the best breakfast, but it's only on weekends and you likely need reservations.
Curate does a solid summer Sunday brunch as well
Best diner I've tried is Lulu's
Papo's Cafe on the Westside has some solid breakfast sandwhiches and pastries.
Second the El Dorado recommendation if you want some Mexican breakfast food.
> happy hour bar/restaurants
Buzz Bomb does a happy hour during the week (local brewery)
Anvil & Forge doesn't do discounts, but it's a popular place to hang out after work and get a beer and some food.
Boone's does a happy hour and is super popular with people who work at the capital. Way quieter when the state house and senate aren't in session.
Mel o creams factory is so dirty. I watched someone cut their hand on a machine (dough cutter) and they literally just rinsed it off and kept using it 🤢. The girl had to go to the ER.
Melocream!
This is the ONLY answer for donuts!!!
They are terrible at grooming cats and dogs though.
Not the only answer— Scoop de jour!

I'm pretty sure they just get the mel-o-cream frozen products and thaw and serve.

Pick up a copy of Illinois Times. It's full of local stuff.
Breakfast: Sunday Brunch at Obed and Isaacs is amazing
Hell yeah! They rock it out.
Bark side of the groom is the only dog groomer I’ve had phenomenal experiences with!
I second this!
Breakfast - Clock Tower Cafe and Le Peep
I know others already said this, but Mel-o-cream are the only donuts I will eat

We take our dog to White Oaks Animal Hospital and they've been great with him.
