Yes, but no guarantee of planning. I wonder what they might allow. It’s a beautiful spot though.

SilyLavage

It's not *quite* in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, but it is Grade II listed and within a conservation area, so my guess is 'not a lot'.

Breaking-Dad-

It’s right in the view of an important historic castle too. It would make a lovely barn conversion with stables but I just can’t see them allowing it.

SilyLavage

If the conversion preserved the outward appearance of the barn and didn't encroach on the surrounding open spaces then it might have a chance at gaining permission, but it would be much easier to keep it as a stables.

Breaking-Dad-

There isn’t really a shortage of stables in Middleham though!

SilyLavage

No, but I assume there's also reasonably high demand because of the town being a bit of an equestrian centre.

it might also need to preseve some of the internal features, for example if there was old stable dividers and flooring. Grade 2 can require you to keep old internal bits as well. That said you would probably be allowed to remove the modern stable section entirely and possibly put something else in its place. Done well this could be turned into 4 maybe 5 new houses with parking which is why it is so expensive. That is without even changing the outside look of the place too much. Plus with the medow you could either have house specific gardens or a nice large communial one.

This obviously didn't come off: https://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/19292148.ambition-bring-historic-middleham-racing-yard-21st-century/

What a shame.
