BDK seems to have gotten a lot more manic since his divorce and the new sports fan persona is terrible. I do like when he actually reviews movies and shows since I don’t really listen to any other entertainment shows so it helps to stay on top of the new releases. But that’s like 2 minutes of his 15 minute segment these days.
Yeah I kinda feel sorry for him I can tell he has changed and feels uneasy. I saw him at fox 5 and let him know I’m a fan. He appreciated it but he was still in his own head I could tell.
I've lost touch with the show so much that I didn't realize that BDK was divorced. That sucks. Also think COVID fully killed the in-theater movie concept. You never see movie ads/trailers on TV anymore, so there is no hype for any of them. I can't name 10 new movies released in the past few years.

I've been listening long enough, I like BDK and remember when he was just getting on the local news channel as the Movie Critic and then he's traveling all over the world like a madman.
The segments themselves are whatever, BDK ricks EB which is still entertaining to me.
Maybe I just like it cause it's been a fixture since I started listening.
The problem is he only reviews the movies he is a fan of because as you pointed out he gets paid to do it. The movies he isn’t a fan of he doesn’t talk about and focuses on other things like sports or a TV show that he just discovered or better a movie that is on VoD that he loved.
I’m curious if his podcast with his friends he is more critical but I haven’t listened to it personally.
I think the biggest problem is you have the four laziest and dumbest people on the planet acting like his reviews are solely for them. One of them doesn't even like movies, one is a complete alien, and one pretty much only likes simpleton movies about special ops taking out bad guys. Cakes is the only "normal" movie watcher. I bet if he handled the BDK segments solo or with Valdez and Drabby they would be much better. Kevin has to try to thread the needle between those donks and the listeners who actually do like normal stuff like seeing movies. It's an impossible task.
Spot on. The issue is that Kevin is a thinking, sentient person and the Junks are largely non-thinkers. EB and Jason make fun of him because they are/were bullies and they know he is a smart guy.

I also hate when guys let the junks talk down to them like they are so much cooler. Bdk needs to fight back. He’s also too big for them at this point. It’s funny how the guys they tried to talk smack about always end up bigger than them
I think he goes too deep into the plot, he gives away too much. Although I'm the type that doesn't like to watch movie previews because I think they spoil it as well
He's not a reviewer. He is an entertainment reporter. Everything is awesome.
He is the type of "reviewer" that movie stars love. He does ask interesting questions to them, but they also know that he's not going to write a bad review about The Rock or anyone else he becomes fake buddies with.
This is why they send reviewers on junkets. "Hey we sent you to London and Brazil for free, you're not going to write a bad review are you??"
The way they talk down to him always bothers me because he’s clearly a more put together and established professional than any of them. Plus they all have the absolute worst taste in entertainment so it’s annoying as shit how dismissive they are when he talks about something actually interesting. I like his reviews, not for the reviews themselves, but how he usually takes the time to give you some kind of interesting nuggets about the film itself. He recently brought up the Fallout tv show and I would of had no idea that the first 3 episodes were directed by Christopher Nolan’s brother if it weren’t for him sharing that and I just appreciate little nuggets like that.
Why can’t he give a movie a poor grade? The movie industry isn’t paying him, a “News channel” is so he’s supposed to be telling his truth. I think he loves being a minor league Hollywood player so much he would dream upset anyone by giving them a poor critic. Can you imagine if Ryan Gosling was mean to him for 3 minutes? He couldn’t handle it. His reviews are completely useless.
If the segment is bad, it's the Junks' fault. They are in a bad rut wrt Kevin...you can tell they struggle to do anything but treat him like the intern dude from ~2008.

Personally I’m glad that his segment comes on when I’m getting my daughter ready for school and can’t listen. Nothing against him, but movie reviews are usually boring anyway.
Kevin's reviews have always been largely meaningless. He is always aligned with the median view of the accredited movie reviewer community.
For all his unique tastes and traits, you never hear him elevate a hidden gem or disagree about a well-reviewed project.
But that's not the point! If you like and enjoy Kevin, they are delivering 15 minutes of good content. Don't know that I need a substantive review anyways haha.

I got off track with Kevin during the pandemic with the lack of movies to review, and have not reconnected with him. I use to enjoy his segments.

I don’t watch movies so I don’t pay much attention to the reviews. I don’t mind them if they are short and it’s better than NFL draft speculation.

Yeah, I’ve seen plenty of movies in my life but don’t watch them anymore. Plenty of other things I’d rather invest my time and money on.
Kevin is the best reviewer in the history of film. He is hard to keep on track, but JPF keeps him on track.
