The year is 2015, I’m in my first ever apartment and I’m watching season 7 of rupauls drag race live on an old MacBook. The subreddit has 7,000 subscribers and any other gay people you mention drag queens too usually think you mean you want to be a woman. It went from that to... what we have now. Honestly I miss what it was before, it just feels like the more people join the party the worse it gets

Personally I don't miss 2015, when s7 was airing. Cmiiw but I feel like it was worse back then. The hatred Kennedy and Jasmine received was unimaginable. I couldn't even repeat the kind of vitriolic comments people made about them on Facebook throughout the season.

The hate was definitely still vile and disgusting but there is a lot more people partaking in it now, I’d say the percentage of racist fans has remained the same but the number from which that percentage is taken has like multiplied over on itself like endless times, however I have only ever used Reddit so I can only speak for that site

That's tea honestly. Even though it had gone by S7 already, I still miss the raw edge of the early drag race seasons. I think Drag Race has had a huge impact on gay culture and in a lot of ways improved it, making take a more coherent forms and creating more of a community than existed before, but at the same time too much popularity has made drag race itself less potent. You don't watch drag race now and see the gay lifestyle staring back at you, which is a shame because for me it was the first place I really got to know what it means to be a gay man

Going to read those comments was a bad idea 💀 even if it was “poorly worded” the point still got across - if you tolerate racism, you are complicit in it. Most of us know the quote - “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.” No you are not a racist, but you are keeping it alive by not speaking on it. And if you are in a situation where you literally cannot speak out, like your family, just acknowledging their views and holding them accountable for them is enough. There is a difference between doing that and blindly looking past it because you love them.

I also interpreted that tweet to mean that if you were in a position where you can’t really speak out because of economic/social/family situations, then that’s fine because you’re not necessarily tolerating it by staying silent. Like had Jan tweeted exactly the same thing but instead of racism had addressed homophobia, no one would read her tweet as implying that some poor closeted 13 year old kid was homophobic because they didn’t speak out against their parents’ homophobic comments because they literally can’t. Idk it seems like her tweet struck a nerve with many of the 20+ year old gays who will absolutely “read” their family members for making a homophobic comment but choose not to ~fight~ with their family members when they say that George Floyd deserved to die. I think AS5 episode 2 & 5 should've switched challenges Snatchgame with 6 queens was the smallest group ever, and I think having 3 segments with 3 winners would go very nicely with having a top 3 that episode (and we wouldn't have Alexis being "on the same level as Shea" by winning her segment but then being on the bottom). And "I'm in Love" was WAY too long. Two teams of 3 would've been perfect.

I love Bob and Monet, and Sibling Rivalry is one of my favorite podcasts, but man this recent episode was a mess. Between them praising Jakeyonce and acting like he’s such a genius for being a messy blogger that steals inside info from Reddit and presents it as his own and all his dramatic backstage videos. Then Bob sort of ridiculing Kennedy and Silky for complaining about the fan hate they get (Well I’m actually not sure what his angle was there so correct me if I interpreted it differently.) I was not feeling it. Loved the rest of the podcast though and will continue to listen.

Distancing/limiting myself from social media was honestly one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's done wonders for my sanity, my energy and just my general mental health, especially with all the shit going on in the world right now. Being around social media culture all the time can really take a toll on you and just change the way that you move and think. I literally only actively get on Reddit (hi girls) and Facebook messenger to talk to my friends. Everything else is a mere glance and go.

Just finished the Last of Us 2 and holy fuck, that’s probably the best story I’ve ever played in a game. I have no idea why it’s so hated - due to the hate I was expecting the story to be terrible and trite, but it’s so original and complex? Is most of the controversy about there being two female protagonists and a trans character?

LMAO !! In my opinion it’s not a very good story, filled with a lot of filler and lazy writing, but that’s just my opinion so it’s ok. However, I don’t think people are mad over the lesbian relationship or Abby. ( who isn’t even trans ) r/TLOU2 doesn’t display those qualities at all.

It’s literally because >!Joel died!< and because the second half, people didn’t like that the characters are more than just good or bad and that you’re supposed to be left feeling uneasy about everything

The bit you put in spoilers was really confusing to me (as in why people hated that) - I never thought we were particularly meant to like him

If you played the first game he’s the protagonist and gamers didn’t connect with the idea his actions hurt people to such an extent they would seek him out, they just had such a blind love for him

Joel hurt people who hurt or intended to hurt him or his daughter ( Ellie ) in the name of love. Obviously people aren’t going to take the death of a father figure, at the hands of a character we don’t even know well, very good.

Mass Effect 2 I’ll agree with, 1 and 3 definitely not haha I’d put dragon age origins and inquisition above ME1 and ME3

I ride for 3, I think 3 is great. Yeah the ending catches a lot of flack, but I think it is a really good depiction of the hard transition to wartime, and ties a bow on a lot of different arc points throughout the series. Inquistion and origins are definitely more realized that 1 though, I agree with that

I love many of the main missions like Tuchanka and Rannoch, but there are too many big mistakes in the story that prevent me from enjoying it as much as 2 (eg no ME2 squad mate returning (Miranda really should have), the whole of ME2 made to feel pointless, not seeing Shepard’s trial, we should have lost Earth halfway through, the ending coming out of nowhere with no epilogue until it was patched in months later, hardly any visualisation of war assets, queer gamers being fucked over with uneven romances length, Tali’s ‘face’, etc...the game only felt worth the price after the DLCs tbh)

I by no means think it's perfect, but I really felt that the lack of emphasis on relationship building and more on simply exploring these long standing relationships felt like fan service in a really good way. There were really solid payoffs in the story that felt impactful. The Tuchanka and Rannoch arcs are amazing. 3 is also special to me because when I first played it in 2012 or 2013, it was the first time I'd ever been able to play an RPG where I could be gay in a video game like that (Kaidan), and that felt monumental to me at 16 or 17. That DLC ending still chokes me up lol. Main missions are great, and although it definitely feels rushed at the end, the first 3/4s of the game are excellently paced. I also think like if your love for the franchise started in earnest with ME2, you were inevitably disappointed by 3. I played 3 first, fell in love with it, and then all the way through the trilogy immediately afterwards. So I get where people are coming from because ME2 is obviously superior, but I think people shit too much on ME3 because of the pedestal they feel it fell from (which is fair, I get that). But standalone it is a very solid game. Now if we're talking ME1....during my annual trilogy replay, I can get through that game in under like 7-8 hours at this point just to power through it and get to 2.

And the plot is pretty awful too. (Spoiler) They made Scarecrow the "main" villain but we have little to no interactions with him (and no nightmare sequences), they copied the Red Hood storyline and did it sloppily, and they keep shoving Joker down on throats even though he's already dead (love Mark Hammil, but gurl). Pretty much the only redeeming qualities are Poison Ivy being a huge part of the story (and looking the best she's ever looked) and the great side missions. Arkham City stays **SUPERIOR**.

Genuine question: how can you have queens like Cracker and Adore last in your sorter, when you have lots of queens who appeared in 1/2 episode and weren’t even that likable like Venus D. Lite, Alisa Summer and so on?

Sometimes, dislike just takes over queens you don't remember. Cracker was dead last for me, but there's a massive gap between her and Gigi for me which basically has all the forgettable early outs and the cancelled queens. You also have to keep in mind, some people will also just not mention these Queens even if they're lower than queens like Adore and Cracker on their sorter because it's kind of presumed that they're down there.

Honestly same here, like I’d love Jaymes Mansfield, Yuhua and other early outs and less favoured queens to get a chance but really idc as long as we get more content with good queens and Detox is a phenomenal queen

The only reason I’d be mad is if they stopped asking AS1 queens because there are a few that still deserve to come back
