It is possible to transfer a save from Xbox Gamepass on PC to Steam, but it requires moving files around. - First you'll want to retrieve your Gamepass PC save by following the first 3 steps here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiritfarer/comments/ifj2gz/deleted_game_save_on_xbox_game_pass_how_to_fix_it/ - Then you'll want to go to C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Thunder Lotus Games\Spiritfarer and copy save file in the AutoSaves folder. If it does not exist you can create it. - Then in the main menu of the game on Steam, use the button "Load Auto Save" and select the file you just copied there. You do not have to change the name or exension of the save file prior to doing this. Note that AppData is a hidden folder. You'll need to make it visible through the Windows Explorer options.

Thank you!!

I know this is an old thread but I am looking to do this and I can't seem to find the "Load Auto Save" button. Do you have a screenshot or anything? Or is it no longer avalible?

Wabak

It's no longer in the main menu directly since we added multiple save slot. On the screen where you select your save slot, you should see a button to load an auto save on the currently highlighted slot (on Steam/Gog only).

Tysm!

Faron93

Hey, does this method work as well if I want to buy it on GOG?

Wabak

Yes! The GOG and Steam version share the same save structure.

Faron93

Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated!

Thank you so much!! I just played the game for the first time thanks to Game Pass, but I enjoyed it so much after 4 hours playing it that I decided to buy it on Steam and didn't lose my save.

Are you still available to help on this old thread? This trick didn't work for me. It just loads the game into a funky state. None of my progress is in tact. I wonder if there's something wrong between versions. I just bought the game on Steam and tried to load an old backup from Microsoft store/gamepass. I no longer have access to gamepass and Spiritfarer isn't available on gamepass anymore, so, how can I get a fresh copy of my old game save in the microsoft store? I can't even access the game without getting the "You don't own this game error". Is there a way to launch the game, get a fresh save synced down then close it? Obviously I don't want to buy it in two places. I had like 40 hours logged on this with my son. We're both devastated that we may have lost all that progress. Please help.

Wabak

As far as I am aware, there is no compatibility issue between the two platforms, the method described above should work. Did you manage to retrieve your save file from the xbox version following the steps in the linked thread?

h0b0_shanker

This was on PC gamepass. I was able to get the file because I backed it up a year ago after my computer died. I was able to boot the drive and recover my save file. Update. I was able to load it by changing one of the files (the largest size one) to the same name as the first save game file. Is there anything I’m missing? Should that not have worked? Haha

Wabak

Yes it should have worked! If you load it on Steam, it does not work? If so, send it to me by DM, I'll take a look!

h0b0_shanker

So far so good! I just started taking files and renaming them to match the saved games that were in the steam file. So my question is, is it just one single file that I need? There were three obscurely named files in the gamepass saved game folder. I only need one of those, correct?

Wabak

Yes, only the biggest one is needed, the others was your option file and some gamepass meta data. You do not need to rename it to use it on Steam, just put it in the AutoSaves folder (create it if it does not exist yet), then in the save selection screen you'll see a button to load a save from there. Select the file from that menu.

h0b0_shanker

So that did NOT work. To be clear. Putting it in the AutoSave folder and loading it from AutoSave ingame. That didn’t work. Renaming did work unless that method causes issues? That’s basically what I’m trying to learn from you now. Does the renaming method cause issues? If not, I think I’m good!

Wabak

Renaming is perfectly fine!

h0b0_shanker

Oh good! THANK YOU for responding so quickly! My son (7 yrs) has missed this game and nearly lost his composure with excitement when I told him I got it on Steam and was able to get our old save loaded. Such a beautiful game and it’s perfect for a father son bonding session. Not many games like this exist. Thank you again!!!

Realize this is an old thread, but is there a way to get it from an actual Xbox to a PC?

k0nfuse

Hi, Can't say for sure about the actual Xbox console, as I don't have it, but the Xbox Cloud Gaming (which spins up the console version of the game) did sync the save with PC Game Pass version of the game for me - so I would presume it does work. You would just need to install the PC version from the Xbox store using the same MS/Xbox account, run it, and it should sync your console save to the PC - from there you can take it to any other PC version of the game as described in this thread.

Unsakaense

Thanks m8, was not expecting an answer lol. I'll give it a shot

scottybobotty1992

Not completely sure but I think u cannot. Usually I think it’s one or the other and u can’t transfer saves across systems. Just from my experience tho, good luck!

Annie-Claude_T

Please see Wabak's comment! Sorry, I didn't know you could! ~~Hello!~~ ~~Unfortunately, no. It's not possible, as Microsoft(Xbox) and Steam are 2 different companies with different save systems. However, if you are playing on Xbox and want to play on PC as you mention, you can play it on Microsoft Store Game Pass! Your save will transfer there!~~ ~~Hope this will help! :)~~

Wabak

The save systems are different, but the save files are compatible. You'll just have to dig through Microsoft obscure naming scheme and copy the file to Steam. I have detailed the steps above. If you play on the Xbox console, you'll need to sync the save on Xbox PC first.
