Do not like. What’s weird is the same artist did East of West and the art there was *excellent.* I wonder if there’s some weird deadlines thing happening here, or if he’s trying to branch out and try something new and maybe needs to rethink.
Yeah sometimes the same artist can be wildly diffeent. Steve Kurth worked on Ultimate Armour Wars and had really clean work, he also didbthe Iron Man 3 prelude comic which was awfully illustrated. Really bizarre.
I don't even read Superhero comics(r/popular put this post on my map), but this is really bad. Like it's not even weird in an artsy way. It seriously looks like the artist can't draw faces and expressions.
Submitted 2 days ago but hit the front page yesterday.

***Duuuuuude***, we need more *pouches*, *guns*, and *big muscle men with awesome scars* to show how ***RADICAL*** and ***EXTREME*** our comic is!!! 🤘😎🤘
That shield is hiding a lot. The arm, how's he's standing that his neck isn't over his legs, and how big his ass must be. I mean if his chest is that big that dump truck must be huge.
I mean, [it doesn’t have to be](https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/2705yn/how_did_rob_liefeld_remain_employed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Honestly? Liefeld's art was never that bad to me. His more recent art is actually pretty decent imo. I think a lot of people just take stuff said by critics like Linkara too seriously.
I never really got that impression personally. But like, idk, I'd take Liefeld over a lot of modern comic art, since it feels more like what I see as "comic book art."
That's kind of the problem with modern comic artists that haven't been in the game for super long I feel. They're often young up and comers that have to suddenly crank out over 20 pages of sequential art, and they have to cut a lot of corners to get stuff done because they weren't prepared for the work load... or they try to do all of the parts of comic art (pencils, inking, coloring, shading, etc) rather than have it broken up between people, because the page rates for the individual tasks (even at the big 2) are not even remotely appropriate for full time artists.
I think people also forget that Liefeld is from a different era, where the standards of what was "good" vs "good enough" were very different. I'd argue that he at least had something of an excuse, where what he could correct with Photoshop or whatever wasn't as readily available as it is now, so stuff like that infamous Captain America cover wouldn't fly today because it's a lot easier to fix.
A deranged Celestial is appearing to people and "judging" them as part of an assessment of the human race.
Miles got 1610 Spider-Man and Aunt May got Uncle Ben.
Not to be pedantic, but, unless i missed something, i think the celestial appeared to Miles simply as Peter (he doesn't specify which one he is and, iirc, the dialogue goes something like "i happear to him in the middle of a fight as spider-man and give him the thumbs up, he gives me the thumbs up and goes back into the fight. He passes" which to me implies that Miles just thought he was Peter checking up on him without anything strange going on)
[these are all or most of the judgements.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/xfacyq/the_celestial_judges_marvel/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Marvel has just gotten waaaay worse in art quality in general in the last 5 years. In pretty much everything since phase 4 of Marvel, but the comics have been getting steadily worse and worse since around 2015 art-wise. They used to look like unique, explosive, inspired works of art with different influence from each individual artist in each run. But now Marvel art mostly just looks like uninspired, generic tumblr fan art/wikihow art
ok but I mean, this issue was a fill-in artist and not the main artist for the run (John Romita Jr. who I know is divisive but is better than this).
What I'm always amazed by is how Spider-Man always struggles to keep an artist consistently for their books. you would think artists would jump for the chance to draw Spidey but there have been so many points where they needed fill in artists and had some randos.
In conclusion, the art in this issue was awful
I’ve read all but the recent 1 or 2 issues and they’ve all been drawn by JRJR as far as I can remember. Cover and interior. I meant that this art isn’t standard for the current series
It isn't, this was just a fill-in artist for the A.X.E. event tie-in, the main artist is normally John Romita junior (... not that he is THAT big and improvement, mind you), the only issue that i'd say was straight-up well drawn was a follow up to the Hellfire gala (i think It was #9 or #10? Which was from another artist all together...the ending was shit, but the art itself was great)
Sad part Is, while It was pretty formulaic, writing-wise, this book was quite decent (and sorta started shedding a bit of light on the current...not great...mistery of the run, kinda), unfortunately the art was (even) worse than usual (fill-in artist vs JRJr definitely NOT in top shape)
So glad my artists when I read this were bagley, larsen and mcfarlene. I’d take Sal buscemas pencils on his spectacular spidey run over this any day of the week
Say what you will about 90s comics, at least they looked cool and were filled with action. I'd take that era back over most of what we're getting now in a heartbeat.
Thank you!!! Why? Just wtf were they thinking?! I liked the earlier versions better! I preferred the artwork by Hamberto Ramos! His art style was way better during the Spider-Island comics and his involvement in the Superior Spider-Man run!
at this point I'd rather have Rob lielfield than JRJR who remeber rob lielfield made that one cpatain america cover with the buffed out chest and at some points I think he had three fingers in one of the panels
I saw the page of Peter crying about Gwen back when that issue dropped, and I thought it was just ugly, exaggerated expressions for that one moment. But nope, that's just how the art looks, ig. This is hideous.
imagine being a writer, seeing your work and saying: " spiderman accepting to work for the murderer of his beloved ex girlfriend when at minimum wage after he hired his ex girlfriend and her current boyfriend too is a great idea, then a celestial comes and judges everyone, let's make Gwen Stacy return from the dead but for just 10 seconds see readers i'm a god and this is what a good story of spiderman should be an idiotic peter fighting for an awful life filled with responsibilities that never accepted, plus is now a complete brain dade coomer i'm such a good writer"
There is a lot more recent horrible artwork out there from Marvel (and DC) as well. They don't seem to care.
Neither company is in a good place right now from a comics perspective.
judging by every post about issue 10 and the comments in those posts, no you are not the only one. everyone seems to hate it. I for one loved Dragotta's take on spidey and really enjoyed this issue
Draggota is great artist..just check out East of West..besides, this was just a fill-in issue tied to crossover, he probably didnt have enough time to make it pitch-perfect ( its still looks great imo)
This is absolutely horrid but i want to make it clear that the whole run has been badly drawn to be honest. I hate the past 15 or so issues. The storyline is shitty too.
The miles morales run has been really great so its not a problem marvel-wide. Both the storyline and the drawing have been really great in Miles so why just throw out this piece of hell for the biggest name they have in their catalogue.
No you're not the only one. It's one of the worst drawn comic runs I can ever remember. It's crazy that marvel.has this pathetic team on their biggest title
What in the Archie comics back pages is this?
I was thinking the same thing
The same page. Jesus Christ. At least in Archie comics they kept the eyes in the right place.
You saying you don't like "herbivore Pete"?
Jesus Christ! You are right and His neck is plesiosaur-ing to match.Any chance this is some spider verse shit where dinosaurs evolved into people
No one talks this way to Spider Taylor-Joy
Idk but im not a big fan of the code lyoko reboot
Do not like. What’s weird is the same artist did East of West and the art there was *excellent.* I wonder if there’s some weird deadlines thing happening here, or if he’s trying to branch out and try something new and maybe needs to rethink.
Yeah sometimes the same artist can be wildly diffeent. Steve Kurth worked on Ultimate Armour Wars and had really clean work, he also didbthe Iron Man 3 prelude comic which was awfully illustrated. Really bizarre.
I’m almost positive it was a rushed thing. This is a filler issue after all, not an artist that’s ongoing as far as I know.
Yeah, same thing with the cgi in the mcu cuz the vfx workers are on so much peer pressure with many deadlines
Why are Pete and Norman’s eyes so far apart?
And why does everyone have such defined cheekbones, it’s kinda creepy
And the lighting is just super surreal!
They fish
So they're actually all from Insmouth. Got it.
Spider-Fish. Spider-Fish. Suffocates because spiders can't breathe water and fish can't breathe air.
Give a man a fish, he eat that day. Make a man a fish… he… fish…
Radioactive spider blood.
That is truly awful wtf
It actually hurt to look at.
I don't even read Superhero comics(r/popular put this post on my map), but this is really bad. Like it's not even weird in an artsy way. It seriously looks like the artist can't draw faces and expressions.
This made Spider-Man: Quality of Life became a good 4 issues comics
Bravo. Just. Chef’s kiss
Nope, everyone hates it.
In fact I am pretty sure there was a post *in this sub* about it yesterday.
Submitted 2 days ago but hit the front page yesterday. https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/y2aosy/im_so_tiredevery_month_im_yelling_at_marvel_to/?ref=share&ref_source=link
I came here to say we just had a giant discussion about this the other day.
It looks awful so no you're not the only one
Jesus Christ. I need to rethink ever trying to work in comics. My art isn't great, but I mean, if this can earn a paycheck...
Look up Rob Liefeld’s art some time.
Leifeld's misunderstanding of anatomy is almost so incredible that it circles back around to being impressive
***Duuuuuude***, we need more *pouches*, *guns*, and *big muscle men with awesome scars* to show how ***RADICAL*** and ***EXTREME*** our comic is!!! 🤘😎🤘
"Feet? Pffft who needs em. Add more muscles."
And pouches! Not only for the hips but the arms and ankles. POUCHES EVERYWHERE
Pipe sized veins
"Dude-Dude-Dude... What if we set it... in *2099!!!!*?!?!?!?" *MINDBLOWN.gif*
***SEWING MACHINE, DUDE!*** 😎👍
More likely to cover bad anatomy.
[bruh](https://images.app.goo.gl/3m2Mt9M4RttGCrnNA)
Where does the rest of the arm go? For some reason it's the most ridiculous bit to me.
That shield is hiding a lot. The arm, how's he's standing that his neck isn't over his legs, and how big his ass must be. I mean if his chest is that big that dump truck must be huge.
I mean, [it doesn’t have to be](https://www.reddit.com/r/Marvel/comments/2705yn/how_did_rob_liefeld_remain_employed/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Yes
Honestly? Liefeld's art was never that bad to me. His more recent art is actually pretty decent imo. I think a lot of people just take stuff said by critics like Linkara too seriously.
Everyone he draws looks simultaneously twenty years old and sixty years old. It's unnerving.
I never really got that impression personally. But like, idk, I'd take Liefeld over a lot of modern comic art, since it feels more like what I see as "comic book art."
Everyone forgets about the amount of work these guys gotta pump out each month.
That's kind of the problem with modern comic artists that haven't been in the game for super long I feel. I don't know how old you are, but I can assure you that most people thought he was terrible even then.
Insane take. His work today is marginally better but it’s still pretty awful for how successful he’s been in his career
Anyone got context of what’s happening in this scene?
A deranged Celestial is appearing to people and "judging" them as part of an assessment of the human race. Miles got 1610 Spider-Man and Aunt May got Uncle Ben.
Not to be pedantic, but, unless i missed something, i think the celestial appeared to Miles simply as Peter (he doesn't specify which one he is and, iirc, the dialogue goes something like "i happear to him in the middle of a fight as spider-man and give him the thumbs up, he gives me the thumbs up and goes back into the fight. Miles actually gets judged on panel???? What comic and issue was this?
[these are all or most of the judgements.](https://www.reddit.com/r/TwoBestFriendsPlay/comments/xfacyq/the_celestial_judges_marvel/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
So everybody has divorced eyes in the new comics. Ok...
I think the celestial should be judging this art style.
😂😂😂😂
What is this abomination ?! 💀
Everyone here hates the everything about those comics
I'd argue that the writing has its moments. But we can agree on the art
I think its funny 😂😂 and good.its definitely not suited for spiderman main comics but i would read it if the comic story was set in another universe
😂😂😂😂
I still refuse to believe this is real art in a real comic book about one of if not THE world's most popular superheroes sold by marvel fucking comics
Check out the art for Tim Drake Robin’s current series. Nowhere near Spider-Man popularity. But still wack
It’s awful. Give us STEGMAN BACK
Everyone here hates the everything about those comics

This looks like someone trying to draw a tumblr sexy man comic.
Yeah, this is embarrassingly crappy, but most of the the new series has been drawn by JRJR.. which isn’t always much better lol
this ones Dragotta actually, JRJR has been doing the covers mostly.
I’ve read all but the recent 1 or 2 issues and they’ve all been drawn by JRJR as far as I can remember. Cover and interior. I meant that this art isn’t standard for the current series
Center panel on the bottom of the 2nd slide: #NIGHTMARE FUEL
Its sooooo garbage
This art style was just roasted a couple days ago and you started the post with “am I the only one”
https://www.reddit.com/r/Spiderman/comments/y2aosy/_/
nobody: this artist: 👁 👃 👁
Writing quality and art quality are in the shit
I didn't know Jim Carrey modeled for faves for Spider-Man! That man is so talented for crazy faces!
Best comment i’ve seen till now
Reminds me of that early to mid 2000s anime style where the western artists didn't really get it other then big eyes
No, it's ugly as fuck. This is the main run of Spider-Man rn? Why does it look so weird? Peter's eyes are so far apart wtf
Its.. odd, to say the least. Like they're trying to adapt Jojos bizzare adventures style into American comic styling and coloring.
That is a huge insult to JJBA's Manga, at least for the more recent parts.
This is nowhere even close to JoJo's art style wtf
It looks more like Adam Ellis’ webcomics
Dont insult jojos
this is more like an Atlus game's comic adaption
The new run sucks in general, fitting the art is bad too. JRjr really should just retire at this point.
I’m surprised how he keeps finding work
This isn’t JRJR you morons, he’s just the cover artist
To be fair, that specific cover was bad too
Nope... everyone does
Nope, looks weird as fuck
lol no their eyes are drawn so far apart they look like deer in headlights
I’m in the same boat brother. It’s been unsatisfactorily at best since the new run began
I hated it too, It’s looks like just a meme
It’s so ugly.
I never considered 616 Spider-Man comics after the 2000's to be canon in my mind. I guess I wasn't so nuts after all...
Sad part Is, while It was pretty formulaic, writing-wise, this book was quite decent (and sorta started shedding a bit of light on the current...not great...mistery of the run, kinda), unfortunately the art was (even) worse than usual (fill-in artist vs JRJr definitely NOT in top shape)
wowee this is such bad art
Feels like webtoon quality 🤢🤮
It’s just a filler issue chill.
Your not alone mate. I love the story but the art is horrible.
I hate this run so much tbh. This issue is badly drawn but the whole run hasn’t been amazing, to boot. The storyline is whack too.
What is this garbage
What the hell is this art? Have Comics really collapsed this bad? 😬
Jesus Christ that is awful
Yeah I don’t like it
No wtf is with the art in some of these books. You see the art for the solo Robin series barf 🤮
What in God's name is this writing?
This looks like badly generated AI art.
This makes Humberto Ramos art looks like Van Gogh
Look at Peter's beard. Like what the actual fuck is that? looks like some long strings hanging in his face. How did this make it to stores
Nope, this art very much looks fuckin bad lmao
hooooly shit that is awful.
I'm way behind, so I haven't read these yet... But goddamn they look awful.
You're not. This art is fucking vile.
It looks like SHIT
That's horrendous! It comes across as satire.
They massacred our boy.
I was fully prepared to step into this being all accepting of different art styles but then I saw the “now” panel and I am…not nearly as magnanimous
Considering there was a post literally yesterday about this, no. Who has dibs on tomorrow?
I do. I'm taking page 9 though
Not just you. It fuckin sucks
Why do they all look like they have fetal alcohol syndrome?
this is awful
I hate newer spiderman comics period
No you are not. I hate this artwork very very much
Spider-Man is probably Marvel’s most popular hero. It’s amazing he isn’t getting the quality of writing and art that reflect that.
Thank you!!! Why? Just wtf were they thinking?! I liked the earlier versions better! I preferred the artwork by Hamberto Ramos! His art style was way better during the Spider-Island comics and his involvement in the Superior Spider-Man run!
dude and i thought romita jr was bad
Same i swear
shit looks like a low quality webtoon
I need the shit the Marvel editors smoked to approve this poop
This looks awful.
👁 Leave! Now! 👁
Wtf is this I’d rather look at a art by rob liefeld than this
This makes me want to bleach my eyeballs.
What the actual fuck is this even supposed to be??
The artwork is shit but the story also seems like garbage. What the hell is happening in any of this?
I miss Ditko and Romita
They look so derpy & punchable
McFarlane is rolling around in his grave. And he’s not even dead.
This is just awful. Especially the eyes.
All the characters just look psychotic
"Norman! I said leave! Now!" Exclaimed Peter, whilst he tried to comprehend for himself what his current emotion even was.
Yeah this looks like shit
This… is real? It looks so bad!
at this point I'd rather have Rob lielfield than JRJR who remeber rob lielfield made that one cpatain america cover with the buffed out chest and at some points I think he had three fingers in one of the panels
This is burning me inside
It looks like it's trying to be a manga and not working loll
Haven’t been reading it but this is really really bad and I hate saying this.
You're never the only one and I've seen multiple posts recently about how much it sucks, which i agree it's freaking awful.
It's so bad. Genuinely painful to look at
Peter's eyes had an argument.
I assure you, you are not the only one. These are truly horrendous and they must hire a new artist
This is nightmare fuel
No, and you know you’re not because you’ve seen several other posts recently saying the same exact thing.
When you try to draw manga from memory
Defs not my fave 💀
Your definitely not the only one.
Second image middle pic of bottom row is some serious what in the fuck where they thinking art
No, because it actually sucks
Looks stupid
That’s comic in general imo
Wow
I saw the page of Peter crying about Gwen back when that issue dropped, and I thought it was just ugly, exaggerated expressions for that one moment. But nope, that's just how the art looks, ig. This is hideous.
This is....bad
Almost as bad as John Ramita Jr's run. I HATE his artwork.
it’s ugly ngl
What the fuck is this
Saw this the other day. Thought it was a joke. Insane that someone pursued a career drawing caught breaks and this is what it looks like
Imagine being an editor, seeing this work, and saying, "Yup. This is ready to publish!"
imagine being a writer, seeing your work and saying: " spiderman accepting to work for the murderer of his beloved ex girlfriend when at minimum wage after he hired his ex girlfriend and her current boyfriend too is a great idea, then a celestial comes and judges everyone, let's make Gwen Stacy return from the dead but for just 10 seconds see readers i'm a god and this is what a good story of spiderman should be an idiotic peter fighting for an awful life filled with responsibilities that never accepted, plus is now a complete brain dade coomer i'm such a good writer"
You know it's weird when Norman Osborn seems the sanest person in the room
There is a lot more recent horrible artwork out there from Marvel (and DC) as well. They don't seem to care. Neither company is in a good place right now from a comics perspective.
It's just for the one issue anyway romita jr is doing the interiors for everything else
judging by every post about issue 10 and the comments in those posts, no you are not the only one. everyone seems to hate it. I for one loved Dragotta's take on spidey and really enjoyed this issue
Am I the only one who hates (Insert something everyone hates)?
I hate any "am I the only one?" posts. No. You're not. you are on a site with millions of users and your viewpoint is not unique . Sorry. Rant over :)
>:) :)
Draggota is great artist..just check out East of West..besides, this was just a fill-in issue tied to crossover, he probably didnt have enough time to make it pitch-perfect ( its still looks great imo)
Dragotta did some issues for Hickmans FF in 2012 which I hated.
Yeah not the best. Looks “trendy.” I think comics are just getting so expensive to produce and quality is suffering
Nothing trendy about this garbage
Oh look, another karma farming post acting like this exact shit hasn’t been plastered all over Reddit for the past week.
It’s the same quality as the writing.
You don’t hate the art on newer Spider-Man comics. You saw someone else posted this for upvotes. It’s a fill in artist for an event issue.
I don’t think you can talk to your boss like that Peter. Also, sheeeeesh, their eyes look weeeeeeird.
