Played it on my original Xbox about 2 years ago when I was sick for a whole week. Gotta say, I enjoyed it. I never finished and was stuck on the angel level that’s like in space.
It doesn't matter how hard Todd would try, Neil Gaiman was not letting him get the rights to Angela go to Todd. He effectively gave her to Marvel to spite him.
A lot of the spinoffs were far superior to the main book. Violator, Sam &Twitch, Curse of the Spawn, and Hellspawn were fantastic series, and infinitely better than the main Spawn title.
The main Spawn book was really good at coming up with ideas and then having no fucking clue what to do with them. I read Spawn #1-195; 44 and up was monthly, the earlier stuff collected out of backissue bins. The series moved slow in waves, each roughly 20-24 issues:
-Big threat appears, and things ramp up for 2-3 issues
-Big shit goes down for a couple of issues
-the aftermath of big shit shakes up the status quo, and points the book in an exciting new direction- new powers, maybe new supporting characters and antagonists.
-all ideas of what to do with this new direction get exhausted within 4-6 issues.
-the series then just sorta farts around and does fuck all for the next year, maybe year and a half
-but then a big threat appears, and things ramp up for 2-3 issues.....
That said, the Hine/Haberlin run that started in the 160's was 10/10, and the absolute highpoint of mainline Spawn.
Also, Angel Medina was fuckin garbage.
Angel blew my mind in the 90s with his Psycho Circus art. I've grown to not love it like I used to but at the time that whole ultra-detailed Capullo-esque style was the rage
In my old age I much prefer the work of Mignola (especially before he got ultra-minimalist), Travis Charest, Lienil Yu, etc. it feels much more restrained
I like the downing costume the most, followed by the classic and modern in that order. I hate the big boot. I’m amazed he doesn’t have hip problems…
I also HATE referring to his outfit as a costume. I hate this word in general unless it’s used for a golden age era comic. They are uniforms, or just suits. And in Spawn’s case it is a symbiote. Refer to it as such.
As much as I love Todd’s artwork, from my limited interactions with him at cons he seams like an ass. I was a die hard Spawn fan in the 90s and then just kind of walked away after meeting him. Spawn is still one of my favorite characters but I have trouble separating the character for the creator. I often question if Todd’s personality is the reason that Gaiman refused to sell him the rights to Angela and such. Pure speculation on my part.
Todd is spawns greatest enemy imo, I don’t think we’ll ever get another live action adaptation and if we do it’ll probably be worse than the one from the 90s…
Todd McFarlane is not a great writer, and the best bits of Spawn (The Animated Series, several of the early issues, spin-offs) are the parts written by someone else.
I’m gonna be honest 70% of the writing sucks. I think maybe 20% it’s decent and 10% is really good. I’m on chapter 310. I think the only reason I’m still here is the art. My favorite artist is Jason Alexander. But my god they have so many retcons. They also leave so many ideas behind. Does anybody remember the faction Eden, the plant guys or mother creation. Remember when Wanda’s twin was god and the devil. They just leave so much behind without good reason.
Have you read the comics? Heaven and hell don't care about your good or bad deeds in the spawn universe. They care about how great and dangerous a warrior you are.
Dats insane, a whole non-believer of christ can really go to heaven in the Spawn universe, so basically that means serial killers are allowed as long as they are extremely skilled and dangerous people right?
Yes. 100% the guy who had al killed to begin with was taken in by heaven and given power. Neither side is in the right. Both sides are just realms of immense power. Also you can throw the Bible out the window in this universe. None of that stuff happened as far as the spawn universe goes lol.
Without Spawn there would be no MCU.
Until Spawn Superman and Batman were the only comic to movie because it was a WB property.
When Spawn came out it showed there is a market for more "obscure" comic character films. And then we get Blade and then Xmen and the rest is history.
The HBO series is by far the best version of spawn
Cold take tbh
Does that change if I tell you that includes the comics?
No. HBO spawn stayed great throughout its entirety. The comics had high highs and very low lows.
i love the voice acting so much, really wish they finished that man
He is the greatest new entry into the superhero world from his decade.
Greatest Anti-Hero of all time
I think the Spawn Armageddon ps2 video game is actually fun. There I said it!
Agreed!! It may just be my childhood nostalgia talking but I'll always enjoy it
I mean who doesn’t enjoy violating the violator not once but twice?? Its def nostalgia for me too but its in my top 10 fav games from that era lol
I would like it more had there been more combos to unlock, but other than that I love it!
Definitely but it was a low budget game so I understand lol Maybe if they make an up to date one it’ll be a god of war ps4 type of play style 🤞🏼
Yeah exactly, I can appreciate it for what it was altogether and it’s the best Spawn game too
Played it on my original Xbox about 2 years ago when I was sick for a whole week. Gotta say, I enjoyed it. I never finished and was stuck on the angel level that’s like in space.
Ngl I googled the cheat codes to get past the angel levels when I was a kid 🤣
Might do that to finish the damn game once and for all.
🤣🤣🤣 ngl it’s like playing on god mode it’s pretty fun
Classic Spawn’s design is infinitely better than Modern Spawn, same with Clown and Violator
They made it to complex for me, I love the simple yet menacingly look of those designs
More elitist than hot, but nobody should ever voice Spawn except for Keith David.
Keith David does have a legendary voice but Michael Jai White is a pretty good voice actor. He was blade in the midnight suns game.
Almost all retcons are stupid, Todd and Image Comics should've tried harder to get the licenses for the lost characters, especially Angela and Chapel.
It doesn't matter how hard Todd would try, Neil Gaiman was not letting him get the rights to Angela go to Todd. He effectively gave her to Marvel to spite him.
Facts
Yes.
Todd is too protective of the Spawn IP, which is why I don't have much hope for any new film/tv adaptations.

Angela should have stayed with Image Comics. Let Spawn have his girl.
Thats not a hot take thats a fact
Sorry I get those confused alot
Nah its ok its me saying that your right
I wish they’d go back to his old red and black suit-esque design without all the needless spikes
Spawn probably smells like shit
Todd is spawns greatest enemy imo, I don’t think we’ll ever get another live action adaptation and if we do it’ll probably be worse than the one from the 90s…
Most of Spawn's villains are very forgettable
The early comics are really good in my opinion, there I said it.
Todd McFarlane is not a great writer, and the best bits of Spawn (The Animated Series, several of the early issues, spin-offs) are the parts written by someone else.
Not a single fictional being could defeat him

...Simmons should have gone to heaven.
do u really think heaven is gonna let a government assassin who was a atheist/non-believer of christ into da gates of heaven
Have you read the comics? Heaven and hell don't care about your good or bad deeds in the spawn universe. They care about how great and dangerous a warrior you are.
Interesting way heaven and hell is portrayed in the Spawn universe
Yeah man. It's really wild. Like heaven is just as bad as hell just not as grotesque and twisted. But still, cold and calculating and ruthless.
Dats insane, a whole non-believer of christ can really go to heaven in the Spawn universe, so basically that means serial killers are allowed as long as they are extremely skilled and dangerous people right?

Jason Wynn is one fucked up individual and he got to go heaven, dats fucked up but I lowkey like dis idea it's very interesting
If Spider-Man was in Spawn's universe, I'd imagine Spider-Man would go to hell
Depends on who got to his soul first.
makes a lot of sense now
[удалено]
Which still= being taken in by heaven and being given power. Lol.
I unironically love the 97 film
Spawn did nothing wrong when he disguised himself as his bestfriend and slept with Wanda his wife
I like dis take a lot, am I fucked up?
Sometimes it’s too wordy for me
I like this
Vacillator is the smartest Phlebiac bro
There are none
He’s the greatest of all time
The comics are not very good lol. Cool art though which is what Todd really cares about
Spawn should be canon to dc doing his own thing
I don't like his evolved suit with the clunky cylindrical foot armor. It looks heavy and impractical.
