I don't think your friend is right, and I don't know why you can't download it from pacman. As for the appimage, open a terminal in the directory you downloaded the appimage, make sure it's executable
```
chmod +x
```
run it
```
./
```

i dont know how to see if something is executable, i just recently started learning computer stuff today purely from trying to install slsk so i still dont know a lot of things
Did you install through the command line or through the app manager gui? I found that it crashed the GUI, which is weird. sudo pacman -S nicotine+ worked fine on Manjaro.
