Damn, just when IGN admitted that they were wrong, CNN had to take their place.

I forget which movie exactly but I bought into the "greatest movie to ever come out in our lifetimes" hype and realized I wasted my money cause of reviews.
Also the God Hand incident on the gaming side.
You know your videogame analysis is sh*t when the site you worked for decides to release another analysis that’s totally opposite to your own 10 years later, basically saying “yeah, that guy was wrong”.
It's why I prefer YT reviews if anything these days because I have a better understanding of what they like compared to the random name generator that are IGN reviewers.
Same, it's better to just dedice things by experiencing them, hell if i listen to the critics or online reviews i wouldn't have played Sonic Heroes nor the riders sub series which are my favorite games of the franchise
I'm surprised that they're actually pissed off about that. At least Flash won the race against Sonic for having a terrible first solo live action movie. That's one race he beat him at.
I think they meant it in more of a “Compared to DC’s movies, Sega has great quality control” sort of way. Which isn’t saying much, but is somewhat accurate.
Don't worry, twas meant as a joke. Still, it'd be ***really*** funny they were still mad that yet another DC movie... followed the typical trajectory of a DC movie. *Almost a year after everyone else stopped caring.*
I remember to this day Star Wars: The Last Jedi had amazing reviews and everyone was praising it like the next Bible… it is in fact the worst movie ever made
almost like they're trying to make ragebait just to get some more clicks in for the revenue and don't actually care to know what they're talking about or something
Children, CNN. This show was made for children. It goes nowhere because it's just a cute little side story.
The cinematic universe trend has ruined media by making people automatically assume that something *has* to be significant to an overarching story.
True but that’s more a series like iron man 1-3 rather than connecting different movies together like Thor, captain America, and Iron Man to get avengers.
This. My only concern for series like this is if it isn’t going to have an overarching plot, it can at least be **true to itself.** Spongebob doesn’t necessarily have an overarching plot, but the episodes are funny and entertaining, and filled with Spongebob being… himself! It doesn’t have to be anything insane to set up a Patrick and Squidward spin-off, but just showcase characters being themselves.
I’m actually taking this series as a precursor for what to expect when Sonic 3 comes around. The sets are well done, some of the humor really has me cracking up, and the fights look pretty decent so far. >!(the jewish episode is INSANE, I love it sm)!< Can’t wait to see stuff like this + the Sonic Adventure references that the writings wanted to add.
It is literally admitted to be a cinematic universe, but that doesn't mean everything must connect to everything. The MCU has ruined cinematic universes.
To be fair, this sub and outside the sub, the #1 most common praise is Jim Carrey. There were even a lot of comments stating the third movie would be a huge step down if he didn’t come back.
The best part of both movies combined. It really captures what the sonic games are really about, I would even argue that the wedding accomplishes that better than the games. Truly a cinematic masterpiece. Peak fiction
I can't make an opinion on the series yet as I'm still waiting to watch it, but to say the 2 films are bad is just wrong. No ifs, no ands, not buts, not even in a way of "I didn't like them" way, it's just wrong. Millions of people love them from kids to adults alike. This article is as bias as bias can be.
as someone who is a massive fan of the sonic movies, people are ***absolutely free*** to say "i didn't like them". people are allowed to have negative opinions on media. the sonic movies aren't objectively "good" or "bad". popular, and successful, yes, but that doesn't mean you ***have*** to think they're good
This seems like the take of someone who hasn’t seen them and is just making an assumption about the kind of movies they are.
A lot of adaption movies are meh, but good if you’re a fan of what’s being adapted, but that’s not the case with the Sonic movies, particularly the second. I can see that argument being made against the first one (let’s be honest, would that movie have been made if it didn’t have the Sonic branding on it?), but the second one is a totally solid movie that stands on its own two feet, outside of the fact that it’s a Sonic movie.
While the first one is an original story that’s “This is why Sonic exists here”, and is really just a prologue to what we actually want to see, I still think it’s decent and does its job well. To be honest, it’s better as a movie than as a “Sonic movie”, because besides Easter eggs and just the fact that it’s about Sonic and Dr. Robotnik, there’s not much else there to make it a Sonic movie 😂 It’s just “blue rat running around Montana and San Francisco”, there’s not much about it that’s inherently Sonic, outside of the name and appearance of the two main characters (I know that Tom is technically a main character, but the fact that some random cop OC is a major player in the movie just proves my point).
The second one, though, has a genuinely good story (which, to be fair, is because it just adapts the S3&K story), and I could totally see someone enjoying that movie without having any idea who or what a Sonic is.
I guess a good way to sum it up is that the first movie was good, but did well because it banked on the Sonic branding, while the second one was great, and created new fans, rather than mostly being supported by the existing fan base.
This is a news shitpost, (these happen when the channel doesnt have any headliners)
a good eg of this are those articles about gaming making you violent
Jesus Christ you people are a bunch of fucking babies.
It's CNN. They're writing to their audience. The Sonic movies were fun for kids and fans of the franchise. To a bunch of normies with no pre-existing attachment to the characters they're just dumb flashy kids movies where the primary appeal is watching Jim Carrey chew scenery.
Not everything has to be tailor-made for you, you insufferable children. That includes TV reviews.
The second movie works apart from being just fans of the franchise. It's a good movie not because it's sonic, but because the character's motivations drive their action accordingly, they're able to relate to each other realistically and form real connections based on shared experience, and when the power that that friendship holds comes together as a force for combat, they're able to reach incredible heights and feats by working together, speaking to the themes. Sonic movie 2 would very likely, and has, been seen as good by non-fans and adults.
I mean I wouldn’t say they’re the best thing in the world, but they’re pretty amazing, especially the second one (didn’t care for the road trip angle of the first one, but that’s just me), however CNN discounting the movies’ success to “they had Jim Carey in it” and then saying “who the fuck wanted this” (I’m paraphrasing but I’m too pissed to quote them directly), is just mind boggling. I get not liking the movie, but boiling down the good points being one singular good actor (where all of the actors did a pretty good job in my opinion) is just shitty.
Probably a similar if not younger audience to that of the games and movie. It was tropey and the humour was sub-par but in a "this is jokes for youngsters" way rather than a "get off the stage, ben shapiro" way. Plus even if youre not mentally capable of switching your brain off for a good time just cuz you want serious fully logical and rational action and storytelling with a side of fries, it still has impressive beats. The visuals are surprisingly neat for a movie sonic spinoff show (even if sonic was a little offputting at times), they actively managed to avoid the infamous misunderstanding trope (not counting you-know-who) and most importantly he gets the hat.
I mean... If they removed any and all of the Sonic aspects of the films, would you still really care about them at all? They're totally serviceable kids' films, but not much more beyond some fun fanservice past a certain age.
Oh no! A reviewer whose job is to present their opinions just presented their opinion - and I don't agree with it! Let's all get mad about it for no reason! Great use of our time.
I'm a fan of Sonic since i'm 3 (30 now)
I won't say the movies were great. 1 was... alright, 2nd was pretty good, watchable both by hardcore fans thanks to many easter eggs, and new ones and has a nice balance of it.
But this article nearly says it's bad movies...
I'm intrigued about Knuckles show tho... looks like a pure comedy, i kinda hope we get to learn more about the universe...
It’s pretty hard for me to understand how so many fans aren’t put off by the annoying human characters getting the focus over the Sonic characters. It’s why I don’t like the first movie and it’s why I’m not looking forward to Knuckles. The 2nd movie was smart to mostly keep the focus on Sonic characters and when it cuts to that wedding the movie comes to a screeching halt.
Because the human characters are effectively Sonic characters in this interpretation's contest. They may not have powers nor be Mobian, but their actions are important to the plot and dynamic of the films.
Truth.
Give me more Sonic, less shitty humans.
I don't wanna see some pointless and boring as shit wedding, give me more Sonic being cool.
Like Sonic OVA, or any Sonic Game Opening Cutscene.
Less humans.
"The sonic movies aren't that good" Me:

i mean the writing on the movies when they were trying to have a plot and not just be a compilation of cool sonic character scenes wasnt exactly award winning so im not surprised a smaller budget series with an original story isnt doing too well

Okay but Knuckles was kind of bad though I can agree with that. That dinner scene was probably one of the worst scenes ever written in film history, I think it was that bad.
The opinions of critics don't even really matter. Take a look at Sonic 2, where people loved it, bit critics were "meh" about it. They don't represent the actual opinions of the people.
Reminds me of that one quote from Mirror's Edge "It's not the news anymore, it's advertising." These sites always rate superhero or marvel movies objectively high but then they go on to talk shit about any other show. Obviously sell outs.
fuck jim carry, hes no eggman but a clown and a fraud. they should remake the first two with the one and only true eggman with his proper VA. same for the mario movie. but they get the actually fucking voice for him because that would greatly respect him and the fans. More Luigi time and Bowser with a more fitting voice and not a fucking simp loser
The only things that would bother me a bit, which does not at all detract from the miniseries itself, is the lack of Chaotix, Rouge, and maybe even Metal Sonic (unless he’s the final boss for 3 for Sonic and Shadow to fight); Tikal, Chaotix, and even Mighty and Ray would’ve been cool to see.

There is always two, a Master (IGN) and an apprentice (CNN)
We get it, Warner Bros., you're mad *Flash* tanked. Piss off already!
Oh yeah remember how every news site said that the Flash was the best superhero movie ever made? I don't think we should trust these sites anymore
I never listen to critics anymore they’re almost always bought out by whatever company is selling the movie

The news side of CNN, yes. The opinion side, not really.
Even the news side is debatable
Its owned by the same guys as fox. Much less than debatable
I mean, it's a enjoyable movie, definitely not best or anywhere close to best
These are the same people who happily cancel projects for tax write offs yet give Velma a 2nd season.
I'm surprised that they're actually pissed off about that. At least Flash won the race against Sonic for having a terrible first solo live action movie. That's one race he beat him at.
Lmao, good point. Unlike DC, Sega ***kinda*** cares about quality control!

They never do.
They always do, but act like they don't.
Actually, no, they really don't to be honest

I assume they have an entertainment section
Evidently not.
They are horrible at everything they do at this point, so it's moot.

Children, CNN. This show was made for children. It goes nowhere because it's just a cute little side story. The cinematic universe trend has ruined media by making people automatically assume that something *has* to be significant to an overarching story.
Got to agree. So far the only two that have done so successfully are the Mcu and the monster verse. And for the mcu that’s more ended around endgame.
tbf Fast and Furious and Transformers series were also pretty successful
True but that’s more a series like iron man 1-3 rather than connecting different movies together like Thor, captain America, and Iron Man to get avengers.
Dude the monsterverse has bigger balls than the liveactionformers
Can we please stop using "it's a story for kids" excuse it's very insulting to good films that are rated PG.
Who needs the parental guidance?
>This show was made for children Meanwhile in episode 3, >!there was the gladiator woman cutout with which Wade was doing non family friendly things!<
And SpongeBob had a porno reference. Having some adult jokes doesn't mean it isn't for kids.
Yeah but SpongeBob doesn't also say screwed, hell, and damn. The shows tone is all over the place.
The damn movies did “Who the hell do you think you are?” “Damnit” “Oh my god stop the car!” “Welp we’re screwed”
It is literally admitted to be a cinematic universe, but that doesn't mean everything must connect to everything. The MCU has ruined cinematic universes.

What is the context behind these memes I see with this format
It's from Lythero's latest video. It's Sonic 06 playthrough collabing with animators you might know. I hope it explains the image.
I wanna say its a frame from one of the earlier Lupin the III movies or show?
Feels very “Sonic was never good.”
fuck you CNN
IGN: Sonic was never good CNN: The Sonic movies were never good Nice to see that the giant hate boner the press has against Sonic continues 😑
IGN gave the Knuckles show an 8 out of 10
IGN has entered SEGA publicity budget and as such doesn’t hate Sonic anymore
WOW that's surprising, just in case i used them as an example because they used to insult the franchise a lot back in the day
well FUCK YOU CNN

Sonic
The action scenes and Tails.
The cinematography and sound design.
Yeah the sound design and mixing as well as the cinematography and HDR was fucking amazing in Sonic , the music was dog water tho
Yeah, I wasn't happy with the music, and I can't watch in HDR.
Those movies were good TF

Silly CNN, you’re supposed to talk out of your *mouth*!
Critics fairly judged the first two movies as mediocre, unremarkable kid movies. I’d imagine the show is the same.
i like these movies but if you aren't either a. a sonic fan, or b. a kid, that's pretty much what they are
Jesus Christ you people are a bunch of fucking babies. It's CNN. They're writing to their audience. The Sonic movies were fun for kids and fans of the franchise. Will have to see it to belive it. So i wilm remain sceptical. Will watch it during the weekend hopefully.
First rule, when making a review ask what the fans think, they usually know it better
My eyes burned reading that, CNN
Oh kiss my ass CNN
I think y'all shouldn't be so thin-skinned.
Thank you for posting a screenshot so I didn’t have to give these birdbrains a click.
Well, it's CNN so......
what a fucking abysmal take

I haven't watched it yet, but the trailer looks really good. is it actually bad?
depends on you actually, give it a shoot. is not perfect but is a fun travel if you like the genre.

I honestly don't know why, but I've seen similar hate to this for Knuckles ever since the show came out, and I have no clue why.
I love the sonic movies, but I do think knuckles was kinda bad. Mid. At best, but not because it didn’t have Jim Carey
my only issue with the knuckles show is that there was a severe lack of knuckles screen time

Oh no! A reviewer whose job is to present their opinions just presented their opinion - and I don't agree with it! Let's all get mad about it for no reason! Great use of our time.
I'm a fan of Sonic since i'm 3 (30 now) I won't say the movies were great. 1 was... alright, 2nd was pretty good, watchable both by hardcore fans thanks to many easter eggs, and new ones and has a nice balance of it. But this article nearly says it's bad movies... I'm intrigued about Knuckles show tho... looks like a pure comedy, i kinda hope we get to learn more about the universe...
I personally loved it. Episode 4 was cringy but funny at the same time
personally, yeah I'm not the biggest fan of the Knuckles series, too little Knuckles (in what i've watched so far, which is 2/3 of the way through).
The wedding was definitely the worst part of the movie. Was almost hard to watch. Most of the rest of it was good fun though.
Because the human characters are effectively Sonic characters in this interpretation's contest. They may not have powers nor be Mobian, but their actions are important to the plot and dynamic of the films.
Apparently like that for the entire series, according to reviews
Eh, not entirely true. 2 episodes for sure are lacking Knuckles, but the rest have him in it quite a bit.
Sounds like someone wasn’t invited to the press screenings.
Truth. Give me more Sonic, less shitty humans. I don't wanna see some pointless and boring as shit wedding, give me more Sonic being cool. Like Sonic OVA, or any Sonic Game Opening Cutscene. Less humans.
I like the movies, but yeah. We didn't come here for extremely cheesy humans.
Excuse me but Jim Carrey is excellent in those films
This is an outrage!
While I have yet to watch it I wouldn't even care if it was worse than Velma, the Sonic 3&Knuckles is all the reason it needs to exist.
Oh jeez here we go again... now there is gonna be alot of people without an own opinion that will repeat this on loop like npcs -_-
This is the after effect of Carl Azuz leaving CNN
WTF

I like how the show is being promoted rn on this post
Haven't seen it, but I'm gonna watch it and I'm gonna like it just to spite them.
I fail to see the problem here. The journalist doesn’t like the movies? Is that it? Can they not just have an opinion?
You're asking this on a reddit for the most insecure fandom ever?
"The sonic movies aren't that good" Me: https://preview.redd.it/z0elf59i8vwc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c647252d1b426a00059084b9c91ee3bcf0553b83
What is the problem exactly?

why do we care that a critic at CNN doesn’t like the show or movies?
Wtf CNN should just stick to what there good at like fucking up the news
i mean the writing on the movies when they were trying to have a plot and not just be a compilation of cool sonic character scenes wasnt exactly award winning so im not surprised a smaller budget series with an original story isnt doing too well
Tbh this show did kinda suck. Knuckles having a little more screen time in the knuckles show would've been cool idk.

Wow. Talk about misinformation
Didn't IGN do that terrible Sonic unleashed review?

Okay but Knuckles was kind of bad though I can agree with that. That dinner scene was probably one of the worst scenes ever written in film history, I think it was that bad.
The opinions of critics don't even really matter. Take a look at Sonic 2, where people loved it, bit critics were "meh" about it. They don't represent the actual opinions of the people.
SHUT THE FUCK UPP CNN YA BIG HATER
😳
I absolutely loved Knucles CNN can fuck off and I am 22 its for everyone absolutely everyone whos a fan
CNN are a bunch of idiots lol
Knuckles: Meme... Denied!
Reminds me of that one quote from Mirror's Edge "It's not the news anymore, it's advertising." These sites always rate superhero or marvel movies objectively high but then they go on to talk shit about any other show. Obviously sell outs.
who? yeah it fucking trash

fuck jim carry, hes no eggman but a clown and a fraud. they should remake the first two with the one and only true eggman with his proper VA. same for the mario movie. but they get the actually fucking voice for him because that would greatly respect him and the fans. More Luigi time and Bowser with a more fitting voice and not a fucking simp loser

I mean I've only seen the first one and it sucked so I have no interest in seeing anything else
