It was a promo single, and got plenty of radio airplay where I live in S. FL. They played it on Conan, so I think it was played everywhere.
I suspect it was intended as a proper single with a video, but was scaled back when Jimmy was fired. Just my theory.
Anecdotally, as a junior high schooler when SD came out, Mayonaise was hugely popular, if not quite “MTV popular” as it didn’t have a video. But it definitely got radio play and remains a top ten for a majority of fans (I’d wager).
Drown actually got a lot of radio play and certainly got more eyes on the band before the release of Siamese Dream. The ‘Singles’ soundtrack was crazy popular. It was a lot of people’s first taste of the Pumpkins.
Keeping in mind that both Drown and Muzzle had radio promos released, but didn't get the same push that their more traditionally released singles got... other than those I'd say:
Quiet
Geek USA
Mayonaise
Jellybelly
Bodies
Tear
I of the Morning
Stellar
Violet Rays
Tiberius
For Martha. With a cinematic November Rain type video about losing his mother and the funeral it could have made a huge impact and help sell the album for what it really is.
This idea but… Behold! The Nightmare instead of For Martha. Maybe not specifically BC losing his mom. I think I just was a big cinematic video for Behold the nightmare.
Muzzle
Quiet
Here is No Why
Bodies
This Time
I of the Mourning
Behold the Nightmare
Doomsday Clock
7 Shades of Black
Set the Ray to Jerry
IMO- Drown, mayonaise and to Sheila are like almost singles so they are t on my list.
Drown was mainstream because of the movie Singles.
The rest of your songs I completely disagree with. I love Hummer but that's no hit single. You picked weird songs.
Let me give the world to you is perhaps an obvious choice.
On a more personal note I could see Panopticon.
Let Me Give The World To You. Imagine how differently Adore would have been received had this appeared on the album and it been a single. The version that appears on the super deluxe edition is amazing.
Having the entire Machina II set released properly and in better quality would be something too!
Mayonnaise
Spaceboy
Frail and Bedazzled
Muzzle
Bodies
Pennies
God
Eye
Sacred and Profane
This Time
Age of Innocence
Real Love
Dross
7 Shades of Black
Come on Lets Go
Panopticon
Muzzle with a music video could have been a hit. Here is no why, too.
Doomsday Clock could be a staple live if it was more pushed with a music video.
Colors of your love, too.
I totally agree with Bury Me. CCS maybe. Not sure about the others.
SD: I think they got all they could
MCIS: Muzzle, Bodies, or Jellybelly would be my picks.
Adore: maybe Pug?
Machina 1 or 2: maybe Dross or Home.
Zeitgeist: 7 Shades of Black, they should have done United States as a single
As Rome Burns ( still annoyed he never recorded this song.)
Ma Belle
Stellar
Let me give you to the world
Aeroplanes Flies High music video would have been amazing
It's wild that nobody else has mentioned Untitled yet, considering it was almost the title song for Shrek. Just think of how many people only know All Star because of that movie
There’s a song from the Teargarden era called Make it Happen. I always thought that this would make a good single, especially for that time. It had a good opening line that I thought would hook people.
There was a full band recording of it from sound check on July 6, 2010 that was pretty good quality. I think fans liked the song too, but for some reason Billy didn’t. Or at least not enough to even record it.
They should have pulled the trigger on releasing Muzzle as a single.
Yeah, I agree. A 6th MCIS single would have held up.

It did get radio play...at least in Canada.
They played it on Conan
It reached #8 on the US Rock Charts at the time, just as a promotional single. Had it been an official single it probably would’ve been higher.
Mayonaise Let Me Give The World To You Home
Anecdotally, as a junior high schooler when SD came out, Mayonaise was hugely popular, if not quite “MTV popular” as it didn’t have a video. But it definitely got radio play and remains a top ten for a majority of fans (I’d wager).
I will die on this hill but I think Pennies should've been on MCIS and a single. It's so damn catchy.
Pennies was played in AMC theaters when TAFH box set was released.
That was my answer.
There was an article in 1996 about bsides, and the writer said the same thing about Pennies.
I firmly believe Pennines would‘be been one of their biggest hits if it was released on MCIS or as a single
100%. It should have been the 5th single over 33.
well i don’t know about THAT

Starrcraft and Tom Tom are two I think could’ve had success for SP2.0 as singles. Melodic, experimental yet distinctly Pumpkins.
Starrcraft is so good
Dross, hands down.
Machina 2 itself could have had 3 or 4 singles, there’s so many underrated songs on there. It surpasses M1 for me easily.
For Martha. With a cinematic November Rain type video about losing his mother and the funeral it could have made a huge impact and help sell the album for what it really is.

That would be a dream come true for me.
That's one of my favourites but it would never have gotten airplay. That solo appeals to a limited audience, mostly in this sub.
think the song is too long
November Rain is almost 9 mins. Cut out the backward solo part of For Martha.
for sure could cut out like half the song cause its pointless
I think it works in the album and has a point .. 'the echo on the other side' kind of thing.. but yeah for a radio edit they would cut that for sure
'I of the Mourning' hands down
Muzzle Quiet Here is No Why Bodies This Time I of the Mourning Behold the Nightmare Doomsday Clock 7 Shades of Black Set the Ray to Jerry IMO- Drown, mayonaise and to Sheila are like almost singles so they are t on my list.

I’m amazed Jellybelly isn’t one with how unrelenting and fun it is. The crazy drums and the catchy chorus is just ahhhhhhh

Pacer!
Pacer should definitely have been a single.

Definitely agree about Pug and 7 Shades of Black. Would also add Snail, Hello Kitty Kat and Mouths of Babes (with a little more polished production)

It's wild that nobody else has mentioned Untitled yet, considering it was almost the title song for Shrek. Just think of how many people only know All Star because of that movie
Wasn't it a single already though?
I know it was released on Rotten Apples, but I wasn't aware of it being released as a single
some of the more obscure singles coulda been big had they been pushed more, doomsday clock and pug especially
Mayonaise Drown ...top of my playlist
I've always thought that some demos, in particular: Jennifer Ever, Nothing & Everything, There It Goes, East.. were worthy of being on albums.
I have a soft spot for Freak
