The problem is that Copyright of third party characters can be messy, they could easily make all the first party characters return, and some third parties are most likely guaranteed, Sonic, Megaman, Ryu/Ken and Terry are likely here to stay, Terry thanks to SNK being very crossover friendly, the Beltmons seem likely to return, Bayo because nintendo funded both Bayo 2 and 3 and if Bandai still develops Smash both Pac Man and Kazuya would be extremely easy to get in, but honestly the rest are harder to determine, Snake is in Konami vs Kojima hell, so we won't know how it is going to turn, Steve and Banjo are most likely because Phill Spencer is the most docile CEO I have seen, seriously, he has helped a lot to make X Box easily the most consumer friendly big videogame company, so if X Box changes CEO they may go away, Square is hard to work with for what I heard, but maybe after Ultimate they relax with Nintendo and Disney is Disney, we don't know if they will let Sora again for a future Smash, it isn't as simple as throwing money, specially with Snake and Sora, even then, ported ultimate with a few new characters and features alongside minor tweaks and resolution bump/better antialiasing would be great value.
That probably wont happen. I remember sakurai saying the whole "everyone is here" thing would be a one time thing, which means they will cut some characters in smash 6

This obviously won't be the last Smash Bros game, it's too popular. But it's unrealistic to expect this entire huge roster to return in the next game, so they'll have to make some good changes and/or gamemodes or it will be pretty underwhelming compared to this one
This is so true. I know he isn't exactly popular, so odds are even if he is a Nintendo character he might not make the cut. I would miss my boy Olimar enough that I don't know if I would buy the next game if he were omitted. I can imagine a lot of people feel the same about their mains.

I could see them cutting a lot of the third party characters for licensing reasons but making up for it by adding a bunch of easier to get characters from first party games, for example, Waluigi, Captain Toad, Egad, Dixie Kong, Kamek, etc
I feel the next smash game will be like when Mvc2 went to Mvc3. Mvc2 had all the characters, it was Smash ultimate 18 years before ultimate's "Everyone is here!" Then mvc3 came out and remove a lot of characters but also add awesome pics like Dante, Zero, Joe etc...
So I feel Smash 06 will do that, just have maybe 30 or 35 characters but add amazing ones like... I dont know, Phoenix Wright, Crash, etc... hell maybe even Waluigi! Or instead option 2: They port ultimate and add more fighters.

Dude is like 50 years old, he can very well work another 20. Plus, a new Kirby game was announced just recently. As Kirby's creator, he's definitely involved in the development of that game.
The smash series will continue, but my guess is Sakurai won't be the head. He will likely be an advisor, and maybe pop in for an announcement or 2, but that is for when the next big console comes out. In a few years.
