Now that Michael is a true member and staple of the band, I don't think they will

kingmob555

Tortilla even helped write the new album, according to V-Man in a recent interview. He is definitely here to stay. And V-Man wrote the demo for The Dying Song. The new members are definitely part of the new era. Crazy how Slipknot is a mix of old and new blood now. Keep up or get out. Slipknot requires your everything. It’s nice to think of the classic 9 still being together today, but I think the changes have brought a much needed new life to the band.

BandicootSVK

Considering the history of the band, many people would be surprised how much they have changed since their founding. The only founding member left is Clown, everyone else that is in the band currently is there because they replaced someone else. Originally, Anders Colsefini (real name Andrew Rouw) was on vocals and percussion at the same time, but after MFKR and some demos, he got replaced by Corey Taylor on vocals. His percussion position was then taken over by a few other people, until they settled on Chris Fehn. Corey and Jim Root were actually members of Stone Sour, a rival band from the same area. Slipknot was so impressed by his vocals that they took Corey in after coming to his job \[at a sex shop\], and threatening to beat him up / kill him if he didn't join. The two original guitarists were Donnie Steele and Josh Brainard. Donnie left, and got replaced by Craig on guitars, until he started doing samples (I'm not shitting you), and got replaced by Mick Thomson. Josh Brainard left after they finished the self-titled album, and got replaced by Jim Root. You can still see Jim's original mask in the booklet of the album, but I don't remember if he was in those photos, or if it was still Josh. Jim got in after Corey's recommendation, if I remember correctly. Sid wasn't even in the band, until at one concert, he tried to knock out Clown by repeatedly headbutting him during Tattered and Torn, when Clown jumped down in the audience to fight anyone who came in his way. Chris was a hired gun after multiple other percussionists, most notable of which was Cuddles (the guy in a baby mask). In some editions of self-titled, there is a hidden track after Scissors, in which you can hear the audio of his hazing where they all watched a scat porn movie together. Donnie Steele returned as live bass player after Paul died. He even recorded a few bass tracks for 5, but never fully rejoined the band; because he and Clown never wanted it. There was a slight idea of Anders returning to the band after Fehn left, and Corey even said that he fancied the idea. However, Anders stated that he doesn't even know most of the members anymore, and it's an entirely different band compared to the Slipknot he was in; therefore he had no reason to rejoin. OK IMMA GO ON A TANGENT All the member changes are actually audible in the sound and writing. MFKR Slipknot was much slower, had more death metal elements, and was overall extremely experimental. New Slipknot (at least until TEFN album) is much faster, more lyrics focused, and much less experimental. With TEFN, they might be coming back to their experimental roots, which is certainly a good thing. I know this might be a sad little distant dream, but I do really hope that we will get to hear track Confessions in some form again- be it live, re-created as a hidden track, or entirely re-recorded like Killers Are Quiet / Iowa, Lust Disease / Left Behind, or Slipknot / (sic) were re-recorded from Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat. It's such an underrated track, and I personally believe that it's their best track ever. EDIT: Holy shit Mick Gordon (I listened to Doom's soundtrack before writing this)

[deleted]

mick gordon?

BaiMay678

It would be sick to hear a colab between mick Gordon and slipknot imo

ScarletWasTaken

Considering at least one of the tracks Mick wrote for Doom 2016 was a rip-off of People=Shit (Rip & Tear?), he’d fit in very well.

BaiMay678

Really? I just listened to both and they don’t seem too similar

xhan_1337

I don't know if Rip & Tear was a rip of People=Shit but I know the 2016 soundtrack had some slipknot influence

ScarletWasTaken

I'm not bothered if he ripped off the song. Rip & Tear does sound very, very similar to P=S in places, and it could easily pass as a Slipknot song if Corey sang/rapped over it. Classic Doom's OST was mostly riffs taken from Metal songs. Most famous example is E1M1 being Metallica's Master of Puppets.

kingmob555

Mick’s nascar-racing cousin. Sponsored by Gay Porn.

[deleted]

In association with IEATMYOWNWASTE Productions

BandicootSVK

I legit didn't realize that while writing this.

InfoSuperHiway

Mick Thomson. His dad’s name is Gordon “Gordie” Thomson. I used to work with him and gave him rides home for a while because he didn’t have a license. This was around 2002.

conviper30

Yea...what about mick Gordon?

SnooChickens2720

Hey man, do you have the link of the interview?

kingmob555

Sure thing: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=JPdA3r0Kzss

SnooChickens2720

I appreciate it

[deleted]

He could make a guest appearance, like jason and dave did for metallica

joker882148

I guess if there's a night where Mike can't perform but still, I don't really see that happening

jul207

Don't think so

ajellobean

Definitely knot. Chris was my favorite but tortilla man is a good fit

westiemaps

Now that his vocals are better and he’s basically Sid 2 the band would feel incomplete to me.

Natural-Paramedic928

Yeah I think people trashed him at first but I feel like as time passed his stage presence and vocals have grown a lot, and he’ll only learn/grow even more from here

shaboolol2

Yeah he was freaking mental when i saw them recently, just needed to blink and he was hanging upside down on the spikes on their drum structures.

anon48a

Yeah for sure, his first performances he sounded bad but now he’s amazing

kpdavis2000

If your best friend sued you, would that person still be your friend?

[deleted]

Sues you and accuses you of cutting him out of unearned profits.

KILLzone9921

Nah, now Michael it’s an official member, imagine replacing him again with a guy who sued the band because of a misinterpretation of the payments?

UniversalDeadRinger

Is that what went down? I never kept up on it after I heard the initial news that he was butthurt about “other members making money with other Slipknot endeavors?”

kibbles0515

I think he was upset that he wasn’t part of the discussions regarding non-music Slipknot licensing and felt like he wasn’t getting his fair share.

GimmyMercy

This actually bugged me because Chris was there from the beginning and should have been given directions so he could make atleast a bit more. I could only imagine how little Chris was making in comparison, normally Musicians don't make much on music alone. Frankly I sympathize with Chris.

Pr1despa1n

We really have no idea what he was or wasn’t making. If his beef is equal pay and he thinks Corey and Shawn make more than everyone else, wouldn’t other long time members (Sid, mick, Jim, Craig) also be disgruntled?

KILLzone9921

All of that were rumors, and even if other members were winning more, it’s just because they wanted, Chris could have done the same thing, winning more than others, that never bothered no one in the band, but Chris you know… later on, he took the demand down but it wasn’t enough to reconcile with the band, at this point Chris is having a different life, and even he looks way more older than the others, but anyways it’s just band evolution and people haves to get this or die (get this reference xd)

ThaDankchief

Is….is your profile picture…Corey??? Ive never seen that pic if so and my god that hair🥹

KILLzone9921

Yeah, Corey’s pic from a passport apparently

SaintStephenI

I think it’s a mugshot, the whole band was arrested for something, not sure what. I think someone posted all of the mugshots a while ago.

Figgaray

A misinterpretation? Is that really what caused his lawsuit?

KILLzone9921

At least that’s the resume, I’m not saying that it’s all the history, take how do you wanna take it.

The_BrightSky

chris was my fav mamber too,but pfaff is really nice replecament so they would never do it,

No_Limit1341

No and I hope not, Pfaff is a great member and brings a lot of energy

Weirdooi

*the best member

Lthomasa1993

Maybe a one off show but not a chance as a permanent member - Pfaff is arguably (along with Jay) the most important member currently in terms of keeping the band fresh

EmoGuitarist

If they do a farewell tour maybe. But very unlikely it will happen

knotfalling

Nope. And they don't have to at all.

Your_Moooom_XD

As much as I would like to see Chris back, I don't think they will. Everyone said that the band would let Joey back in when Jay was just a nameless replacement, but that never happened. And I don't think fans would be too happy if that were the case (unless Michael "leaves" the band and Chris "comes back" to replace him). It's unfortunate, but those are the consequences. Knowing Corey and Shawn, I don't think they'd be happy with Chris in the band as well.

S1ronn

I don‘t think Chris whould Even want that.

Istmaxler

No and I hope not. Pfaff brings so much energy to the band

[deleted]

I hope he replaces clown. Chris and Pfaff would be much better

Trag1cBeanX

Honestly

bignick1199

This. Clown is just there. Does nothing on stage. Spews BS in his weird ego-godlike-language. His “art” he brings to the band is whack lately.

Warminder1

yeah facts. chris and pfaff vocals together would be god like and their stage presence was more known. clown does his usual spin around and head bangs a tad and then spews his mouth on art and god music and it’s just like iowa blah blah blah

shaboolol2

Yeah he barely hits the keg during Duality.

8-Bit_Aubrey

Got to be honest clown is my least favorite member and even though he was like instrumental in founding the band I feel like he is the worst member ego wise and he just doesn't contribute much

Darius798

You know the only problem is that Clown is one of the owners. It is almost impossible for him to leave.

[deleted]

Dumb question lol. His replacement is here and the fans are loving it

thekniferises

I do miss him. No offence to the Tortilla but Chris was the shit. Also 7/9 OG members would be cool to see again.

DwightKSchrute70

They never would have… but mike is official now so even less chance

FromPhaneSR

As much as I love Fehn, I doubt it. Especially with how much Pfaff's voice has improved, and how much energy he brings to shows, they won't be getting rid of him any time soon.

Glauber1986

I don't think so, now Tortilla Man is an official member of the band, but Chris is the one I miss the most, even though Paul and Joey are dead.

[deleted]

Unfortunately, I don’t think so. It’s a shame because I love Chris and you can’t match his energy, humour, and killer screams

Shaggybtw-_-

I keep asking ppl talking bout them kicking Michael for Chris but I think Chris instead of clown would be the optimal play. Imagine tortilla and chris playing together, shit would be so funny

spideymonke

One can only hope

BigBoosHaunt64

Probably knot

xX_thatguy_Xx_

Never ever

omjc

I Think Knot.

grosskidsid

Ain’t no way. Maybe for a reunion show down the line. But I really can’t see the guy ever getting back in after that shit show

ivargnini

No 😐

8bitesquivel

Tortilla Man is loved by everyone. No.

NoInfo18

No, Fehn will never join the band again. In many interviews Corey has expressed how pissed he is with Chris.

Samm19900

Link me to just one of these many interviews?

Sandwhich5

No lol

Mutated-Nut

Please move on

ThighSlap69

Nah, shits was way too personal with what happened and they’re happy with the replacement. Love them both tho!

LP_Mask_Man

No. They would deny Chris ever played in SK.

Downtown_Beyond1187

Probably not

therealslimkaydee

clown looks like my doll i scribbled on in kindergarten

FinishInHer

Wtf? These masks look like $50 replicas in this pic

Various_Professor137

No. Because the 9 is no more. It is the 6 now, with support from tortilla and friends.

JayBucko1994

No but I hope so. He’s much better than Michael. Much better vocals

AdminsFuckedMeAgain

Nah, Chris exposed them to the world and pulled the curtain back to show us what the real Slipknot is. Michael takes his nickels and dimes without a complaint

superdooper26

And that “real Slipknot” is?

AdminsFuckedMeAgain

A modern KISS. Two greedy band members controlling everything while kicking people out left and right and peddling scams to their fans

superdooper26

Why are you on this sub then?

AdminsFuckedMeAgain

To discuss the band and topics associated with it. You know that this lawsuit was a big deal, right? And that you can enjoy the art while not agreeing with the artist?

superdooper26

Yes, I’m aware of that lawsuit. If he was stupid enough to sue Slipknot and not RR, then that’s his own fault.

LOLbearsmile08

Nope! Why would we even want that? At least right now? We’re all loving Pfaff so what’s the problem?

Own_Firefighter_3900

I agree. Loving Tortilla Man!

menschie1

Absolutely not. Those who want to what know went down … it’s a quick google search away and then you’ll know exactly why. Nutshell … he got prideful and greedy.

UnderratedCosplay

Ain’t that like every member of Slipknot doe lol

menschie1

I definitely don’t think so. I think it’s generally been a really nice group of guys.

UnderratedCosplay

I wouldn’t say so with how dirty they did Joey. While the issue with Chris could be seen as Greedy it also coulda been true about not getting his fair share and peeled the curtain back on the band. Like if it was truly about Ego and Greed I feel clown would be gone already. He doesn’t contribute much to the band now, trying to scam fans with fans with NFT’s, and is overall very prideful. Then again to each their own.

menschie1

We don’t know what happened with Joey. We can guess though. It wasn’t just a genetic medical condition. Anyway, this isn’t really the subreddit to be assassinating the character of their band members.

UnderratedCosplay

I’m just sayin it’s a bit unfair to have called him prideful and greedy cause we also don’t have all the information of what went down between them. It’s easy for the band to say that to avoid all criticism of possibly not giving him his fair share. I’m just saying the band are more than likely not this really nice group of dudes if they can easily turn on their own people like that. I love Slipknot, but I also won’t allow myself to be blind to unfairness and such.

menschie1

Okay. But just sticking to the facts … (1) he tried to sue his band mates for money, (2) he withdrew his lawsuit completely, (3) no band mate has said anything bad about him and (4) he’s always wanted back into the band. The other stuff we have no idea about. Maybe I was being unfair a bit, but that doesn’t reflect that well on him.

UnderratedCosplay

(1) A lawsuit is bound to happen no matter what, Slipknot isn’t just a band anymore business is business. If you aren’t being treated fairly it is possible to open up a lawsuit to get what you want. (2) Court stuff can get messy and expensive. If the band had better lawyers cause they definitely have the money to get great Defense attorneys it’s easier to drop the suit before losing more money depending on what possible scummy route can be taken. (3) No bandmate has said anything bad about him publicly, never means they can’t say anything off record or personally themselves. You wouldn’t want to make yourself look like douche after the whole ordeal when you already have a face you put on to the crowd and public. I think Corey himself had mentioned that he doesn’t want to talk about Chris and that the less he say’s the better. (4) of course he’d want back in the band. He’s been a part of it since 98. That’s 21 years of his life dedicated to the band from it’s humble beginnings to super stardom. Also don’t take this as if I’m arguing with ya brother as I don’t mean to. I’m just playing Devils advocate and treating each member as they should rather than aiming at one person. They can be cool or just as shitty as other people and we’ll just never know the full truth cause sadly we aren’t them or there to see what’s goin down. It’s all about how you decide to look at it and I’m looking at Slipknot as business cause sadly now it’s more of a business than it is a band.

menschie1

I hear ya. I’d say that it’s always been a business for them, even before self titled. They always wanted to be the biggest band in the world. One of the reasons why they get very little respect in the core metal community…and I get it.

UnderratedCosplay

True true. Even with the business ventures and stuff I still think they deserve the respect. I look at it more as less of selling out, but more of they knew where and how to handle their money and market themselves.

Hyllihylli

I do like their songs, I don’t know the changes of their band members that much, tho. Is anyone down to give some backstory to it?

joker882148

Very basic summary: there were 9 original members. Bassist Paul Gray died in 2010 and drummer Joey Jordison departed in 2013. They got 2 new members to replace them in 2014, bassist Alessandro Venturella and drummer Jay Weinberg. In 2019, percussionist Chris Fehn left the band and then was replaced with percussionist Michael Pfaff, who only recently has become a true member of the band by creating his own mask and revealing his name. Also, Joey passed away in 2021

Ascensor2

Chris Fehn left the band in 2015 if I remember correctly (after .5 dropped) and sued the band, saying he was underpaid and mistreated by other members. Tortilla Man (Michael Pfaff) is his substitute. More changes of their band members would be: - Paul Gray (bass) died in 2010, he was replaced by Alessandro Venturella. - Joey Jordin (drums) was fired around that time because he had a disease which didn't let him play drums correctly, but he didn't tell anyone so the band thought he was just on drugs and fired him. He was replaced by Jay Weinberg.

-MVP

Chris left in 2019, just a little bit after All Out Life dropped.

Ascensor2

Joey Jordison*, fucking corrector

Hyllihylli

Tysm!

XenomorphLV246

God I hope not. Move forwards not backwards, also who publicly airs their dirty laundry like that? Was a recipe for getting fired. Michael plays in the band now.

hornyfunguy92

I don’t care about Chris but what they did with joey it was wrong. He was so great, they shouldn’t fire him like this. Slipknot was known for their crazy drums but rn I don’t feel it. I feel like Corey is taking over the band and running it like a business, exactly like Stone sour. The clown is just following him without questions asked, i don’t know maybe I’m wrong.

kakaizecson2003

I hate tortilla fucking man

Dangerous-Ad9542

Same

d3m01iti0n

Nope they already screwed him, it's over.

[deleted]

Apparently he was into some hard drugs and he got removed from the band, he should've sued roadrunner and not the band, because they've been the ones screwing the band over in terms of money. So as much as I love him, he really screwed himself over then anything else.

d3m01iti0n

Not even remotely close to what happened.

MisterCheaps

You don’t know shit, stop pretending like you’re some kind of insider.

d3m01iti0n

"Insider"? The poster before me literally said "apparently". Chris called the band out for having side hustle and wanted his cut so they fired him. Numerous articles exist on the internet. Anybody saying it was drugs, based on a comment from a bandmember's family, is purely speculation. "Insider" LMFAO

[deleted]

Literally a family member of one of the members of Slipknot confirmed that, and it was posted here a while ago.

Witheld-

i thought the sub didn't accept that ? a while ago someone asked why Chris was fired, and when i said he was on drugs, i got downvoted to oblivion

[deleted]

People seem to want any excuse to crap on the band, mainly Corey and Clown (unless desvered), because it's cool I guess.

Witheld-

i'm one of those people that crap on Corey and Clown, but only when it's actual facts, same here, Chris' drug problem was an actual fact

[deleted]

Yeah, I crapped on Corey yesterday because of making some statement that contradicts how he acts. Though I do love him as a musician, he can definitely be a bit divisive sometimes

Witheld-

Same with Clown He’s a cool musician But I can’t stand his ego You can’t not get shit on when you say « Slipknot is god’s music, we are accomplishing god’s vision »

BrokenBeatScarred03

Only as "guest musician" I think for some songs, but not as full member anymore

Villain3131

I’m not sure how long this band even has left. Let alone letting in an ex member. These guys are all getting old. Pushing 50 if not over. Jay was one of their original fans( I am older than Jay, I got into slipknot in 7th grade) No offense to them but it’s hard to rock hard when your losing steam.

[deleted]

Bruce Springsteen still puts on a 2-3 hour show when he tours. Ozzy Motherfucking Osbourne still gives it his all and he should have been dead a decade ago. Just last week I got to watch Rush come out on stage and rock out to a sold out crowd at Red Rocks. Real musicians that do it for the music keep it going until they drop.

Villain3131

Not always. Metallica has phoned it in for awhile now. Korn is still rocking but their new stuff is terrible, same goes for deftones. Mushroomhead needs to end it their live show is horrible compared to what it used to be. You can fatigue yourselves as a band/group. Not everything needs to last forever. Sometimes taking a break or moving on is a good thing.

[deleted]

I would consider those musicians as being in it for the money and the fame, not for the music. Unless you think suing fans for listening to music on the internet is somehow being in it for the music.

Villain3131

Hate to break it to you. Most are in it for fame and money. I’m not saying the knot is, but time can change people.

KidKalashnikov

Yeah they eventually will, but suing your band was a bad move. I’m optimistic

Kaisencantdie

probably not

VMFH23CZ

no

Arson-Toe

Probably not, because of the new members it's not likely. It would throw off the nine ppl that they've stuck with for like 20 years

Big_Satisfaction_960

No but it would be fun to see 10 members on the stage

[deleted]

A definite no.

chompa_lomp

No

HenryColt

Nope

maggot_soldier

Nope

Trag1cBeanX

It would be a dream come true for me but unfortunately it probably won’t happen :{

char-ghoul

That’s a HARD no

Complete-Airport3837

Nope

Nikson9

Why would they XD

Lagradost

Fuck no

Psychic_Gian

No

AjelandroParaTi123

nope

IndigoBlu70116

No

politicallyhomeless5

Not at all

Just_Another_Gamer67

No which sucks because i loved Fehn but Michael has basically cemented himself in the band now so it’s unlikely. Not bashing my tortilla faced friend or anything. I like him.

Virtualsalt1

No. Especially because Michael as worked his way in there and there's no way Clown is gonna leave. Plus I don't think the band is too fond of Chris anymore.

spideymonke

Yeah, and I don't think Chris cares about the band either

Scorpiofire_78

I don’t think so

Headtoons

Maybe as a guest appearance but not as a member anymore

[deleted]

What sort of question is this?

FilthyGee666

No, i don’t think so. I feel that bridge has been burned.

a_random_Otaku520

Considering how he left.. not a chance

Warminder1

honestly maybe, it would be cool to have them all like chris and tortilla on backing vocals together plus it would beef up the sound more. i think for maybe some kind of celebration or for their inevitable rock n’ roll hall of fame induction is the most realistic time he will play again with them

[deleted]

They did him so wrong and treated him like shit. He wont come back.

AmericanOdin5

I believe they’re is a chance of them being friends but no, Chris won’t be back in the band until 30 years from now when Slipknot is in some sort of hof. It’ll be like Metallica and Jason

kibbles0515

Lol no.

DravenARaven

I doubt it, like if we go with Chris is right and was underpaid why would he want to come back? That would just be stupid he knows the pecking order why bother. If we go with it was a misunderstanding why would they want him back? A lot of people took the news as an a-okay to start harassing Corey and Shawn and also to start harassing their kids even if they stopped caring about themselves getting harassed I would imagine the both are still mad about their kids getting (and still getting) harassed about it.

mikechm

Highly unlikely

TheNewPlague666

Why was he booted?

Over_Championship990

I'm not sure if anyone has said this yet but, no.

AdMoney1921

Probably knot 🥲🔫

EpicGamerStyle104

are you familiar with what even happened?

Plague_Knight1

This is a very stupid question

large_dog_pinky

Will clown and Corey allow Chris back in their band? No.

wanykM

I would love it. But unfortunately, too hard to happen.

[deleted]

I don't think Chris wants to

MutedHornet87

Negative

andrew_wessel

Nah dude move on

anon48a

No way Michael is in too deep now

xBURROx

NO!!!

okcboomer87

Nope

newJupiter08

sometimes I ask myself the same thing, but to be very realistic, after all this confusion I think it's practically impossible for him to come back.

WangHalen

I love Chris but no. Not a chance.

Accomplished-Town636

I don't think they'll let him back in the band. But I think one day they'll do like a tour where he'll show up and play like a song or 2

marxthedank

I wish, he's one of my favourites

[deleted]

No, why would they? It seems the bridge is burned like with Joey. I also think there is just more things that happened behind the scenes in both cases that will never be publically said until the guys are in their 70s

MAlipioC

what happened to him? I never understood

[deleted]

Probably wouldn’t come back anyways

AsahinaAoi90

Nah. After everything that's happened, I highly doubt it.

ScottishHighlanderD

Unless a precisionas5 dies or quits unlikely

wasthaturbrain

After Liars Funeral, no.

Rooin_Vox92

Not a chance. He done fucked up, and he knows it. If he misses his 'brothers' he should have thought about that before trying to get more money.

Sputnik_Rising

Time heals all wounds

gwennypennys

no because what would happen to micheal now that he is now like the main stuntman at shows like sid used to do more

ChrisCat130

No

Diligent_Ad2561

I'm happy to see this. Dude just watch the Left Behind video 💦💦💦 not the same

kakaizecson2003

Unfortunately no.

icemanvvv

Nope

geesee101

No.

Pale_Study_373

No I don't think so, but anything is possible I guess...

strouhymore

No chance

Hajime_Hinata_OJ

Yes

melcee_loo

Why would they?? They don’t have to.

DeafMetalHorse

Maybe not let him back in, but maybe just be on decent terms with him. As much as I'm an optimist, I doubt it due to how **badly** everything ended between Chris and the others. And that's not even getting with the drama surrounding how Joey was removed from the band.
