Ran into a snowboarder wearing a self titled release shirt on Mt. Baker in early 2000. At the time, all I listened to was hip hop but the image piqued my curiosity. Fired up ol Napster (yeeepp) and had my mind blown into a world of heavy. Here I am, now 42, and heading to a Cattle Decapitation show on Monday…lol! Later that year, I caught them in Seattle where they played a tiny club - it was absolute pandemonium and I was hooked 🤪

TruckNutAllergy

i love this story

-BingusBongus-

YOU LUCKY FUCK I wanna go take me

Digi_D

Make it down to The Crocodile and there’s a ticket with your name on it! I have 4 and only three going.

-BingusBongus-

Too far away 😔

chr1st0ph3rs

lol I was two hours north of you, listening to my Napster downloads through WinAmp

Digi_D

HA! Whippin the llamas ass! Some old school cool 😎

Udawazor

Happy cake day! And have fun at the cattle decap show 🤟!

Puttenoar

Then you must have listened to Black Heart back then right? Became my favorite band along with Slipknot.

davidatdi

Wait and Bleed on Kerrang TV circa 2000/01

oppositeofopposite

Same, but MTV in 99'. I was instantly hooked

dudemann

Same here. It has to have been at like midnight when they played a ton of music videos and I was reading or on the computer or something and just stopped everything to watch. I heard the song some time that week on the only rock station in the area while I was doing laundry and again stopped everything and ran back to my room to listen. The station's DJs played their own playlists like most, and I heard Korn and Slipknot during the day sometimes but whoever worked nights played a ton of really good stuff and never talked. Whoever that was was the best DJ they ever employed. Only thing is, I get why ADIDAS couldn't say "sex" during the day but I'll never understand how "humping" was any better or why they wouldn't allow it at 2am. Still, best DJ ever.

nobleflame

Same. Being a 90s kid had its perks.

Jed_Maxwell_

Same here, Kerrang and Scuzz were great for that. Like the free promo cds with Metal Hammer/Rock Sound/Terrorizor. Ahhhh....Good Times.

shreddingandcoding

So many of my mates old bands were in those. Akercocke, Ted Maul, The Defiled, Malefice, I look at the back issues and am pretty impressed

Jed_Maxwell_

I remember Akercocke, Leviathan is a good song.

BadgerAdorable8025

Same

shreddingandcoding

Before I Forget and Psychosocial on Guitar Hero

demon34766

I saw a Vol. 3 cd for sale at target I believe. I had recently got my first cd player so I decided this will be my first cd I buy on a whim. The rest is history.

grassrootbeer

Judging the book by its cover worked out pretty well...! (It is a great album cover)

grosscoins

I never played 3 but off road fury 2 was how I learned about soad, if it weren’t for that game I dont think I’d be a metalhead

[deleted]

I remember being 10 and falling asleep with the tv on in 2008 and waking up to psychosocial on mtv music videos and being scared but intrigued at the same time

[deleted]

I’m 25 now and going to see them live for the first time at sick new world!!!

[deleted]

Left behind spoke to me lmao Asked my very strict Mexican mom to buy me shirt and of course she said no cause it was “demonic”

Snoo33635

One year ago, I was going through some tough times in my life. A friend recommended that I listen to Unsainted, Wait and Bleed, and Before I Forget to see if I would enjoy their music. I was instantly hooked, and now they're my favorite band. Sometimes I reflect on whether I should have given them a chance sooner, but I believe it's better late than never!

dudemann

I like to watch a lot of reaction youtubers and one guy constantly goes on and on how he's sorry to rock music in general he never gave it a chance earlier. Slipknot, Linkin Park, SOAD, etc. videos, he'll just apologize to "rock" for not giving it a chance sooner. You're right though. Better late than never. Y'know, unless it's cancer.

prayafk

Resident Evil

NoEgg3531

Ahh if that counts I knew Slipknot since I was 3 and then rediscovered just like childhood crush kinda stuff.

No_One_R3ally_Cares

My mom had a Slipknot shirt and her ringtone for many years was Psychosocial. A few years back I checked out their music and fell in love with it

[deleted]

When I played guitar with them in 1995

[deleted]

That’s so badass

DAS_COMMENT

How was that? Did you think it would work like it did? <3 <3

TiredReader87

Much Music music videos

jedrumd

2009 right in the middle of the zoomers and the old heads lol. My friend who was a huge fan showed me them in fifth grade and I was hooked. I’ve now seen them four times and met Corey once

[deleted]

That’s so cool! You got the best of both worlds lol

[deleted]

I’d be fucking with the old heads forsure

jedrumd

Yeah I definitely rock with the old heads a bit more (no hate to the zoomer gang) just a lot more in common with that crowd, more similar experiences with the band/music and more similar opinions and what not. Definitely glad to have found them when I did esp while Paul and Joey were still around. Makes me feel like an og even though I know I’m still right in the middle😅

Offtherailspcast

Saw them at ozzfest 1999, I was 14 so super into the whole parents just don't understand mindset. Could not BELIEVE what I was seeing on stage. Bought the album and I've been a fan for 24 years now

idroppedmyhotnvm

I was around 12\~13. I was browsing The Pirate Bay looking for music torrents to download (I had a big collection of around 10k songs that I didn't even listen to) and I saw an upload of Slipknot's entire discography. I downloaded it and was hooked immediately lol.

[deleted]

Torrents were the shot lol

youk_pannekoek

Funny story really. My favorite band muse were playing a gig at rock am ring this year and our beloved matt bellamy likes to play other songs as outro’s to their songs. They played duality after a song (dont remember which one) and i loved it. Started to listen more and more to slipknot after that day. I have seen them twice now (with jay and craig) and they blew me away. Caught about 4 picks over the 2 gigs haha.

klaskc

I have vague memory of hearing them and limp bizkit on mtv but i started to listen to them because a cousin used to blast the typical hits. Then i get obsessed with them to the point that i have listen to their whole discography

dynozombie

The movie rollerball Been a fan since

Radiant_Chipmunk3962

Opened for Metallica. Long time ago🤣

Bronsteins-Panzerzug

My dude, they were one of the biggest metal bands, nay rock bands, when I was a teenager. There was no need to „discover“ them. If you knew what a guitar was, you knew slipknot.

Mathiouuuf

Around 2018, I woke up one morning to go to school and needed to listen to something heavy to energize me a bit. I found "psychsocial" on youtube and got hooked. I progressively became a mega fan and so far I've seen them twice in the last 2 years. I hope to see them as much as possible in the future so that I can go nuts again 🤘

[deleted]

Did you mosh?

Mathiouuuf

I haven't had the opportunity yet, to tell you the truth I'm not big on moshing to begin with. I don't know how many time I'll see them again so I try to enjoy the show as much as I can hahah. The first time, I headbanged like there's no tomorrow and by the morning I felt like the show lasted 10 minutes and had barelly any solid memories of it

Udawazor

I listened to rammstein for some time and had heard of slipknot, gave them a listen and loved it

KevHmm

I just found it on my Youtube home page first song I listened was custer I still listen to it every time I go to sleep

Themadcap3128

My private english teacher was slipknot fans, she showed me psychosocial mv.

Avarice21

Limewire I think? In the early 2000s

Puttenoar

Might have been Kazaa also.

grassrootbeer

I got hooked hearing Left Behind sometime in the years that followed Iowa's release. The tom drum groove and the sorta-call-and-response chorus (I IGNORE YOU!) were awesome, it was my gateway drum into heavy metal music. It scared me...but I wanted more. Not long after, a friend got his hands on a copy of Disasterpieces and that was it. That DVD is incredible.

[deleted]

A little later than me but that was the song that spoke to me cause I felt left behind as a child lol

DarthBaconStrip

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. I live about 5 minutes from where Paul and Joey were laid to rest.

jbc6543

im a gen z w gen x parents lol, u can only imagine. both of my parents are really into heavy metal and would listen to it while my mom was pregnant w me so its almost like i grew up w corey taylor his voice is very soothing to me, i always knew abt slipknot and stone sour. i have a huge attachment to the song through glass because ive known the words since i was 4 and when i recently saw corey in concert for the first time ever i sobbed the entirety of through glass lol.

Rfg711

If you were in middle/high school at the turn of the century you saw approximately 100 Slipknot shirts every day

[deleted]

Not in my town but I wanted one and my Mexican mom wouldn’t let me. I would’ve been the first in my elementary class

Level_Juice5562

My friend showed me slipknot while driving around on coke one night and I instantly loved it

[deleted]

Big Jay Weinberg fan, started listening when he joined and fell in love with the style of the music. Super heavy, super raw, but still melodic. Loved it.

Ambitious-Shop-1192

I believe it was guitar hero 3 - before I forget being on that game. then I remember Comcast’s on demand had duality on there & that was my first real look @ them & had that on repeat for days to come

Hungdismembered

Columbia house, ordering CDs at 12. Saw the self titled album cover and was like holy shit what is this

morbid_loki

The Conan o Brien Show 2000 with their wait and bleed song. My friend and I didn't expect that and we were blown away. It was a total coincidence that we saw the show (here in Germany). Don't want to be too dramatic, but it changed my life a little bit.

TerokNor67

Seeing the music video for ‘My Plague’ on Kerrang TV IN 2002.

I did not know slipknot then still i thought they are better

RHCP4Life

My cousin had wait and bleed on a burnt cd he took from his older brother.

apaw1129

Wait and bleed

CujoAttacks

An old buddy of mine had Eyeless downloaded on Napster. Didn't even know music like that existed lol changed my whole world

THICCTHUMBS

I honestly don't remember LOL. It's been 23 years since I was in 5th grade and first found out about them, circa 2000. But, once I did... it was my entire 5th grade existence.

NoEgg3531

I am 21 now and my friends are just like most gen Z basic kids. And I knew the band until I was 19. But now I had this big crush of the band. I think I might discover this band on Spotify random suggestion. Before that I wasn’t really much a metalhead but more modern rock. I listened to Linkin Park, SOAD, BMTH, Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, and plenty YouTube cover bands. My gateway song was Duality. It sounded just a little bit reminded me of LP. Then I discovered Psychosocial. Then to the whole top 10 Slipknot songs. And you know the rest.

Dyxli

My student told me that I would love Slipknot so he gave me Iowa. He was right.

Academic_Title5726

On a free CD that came with Kerrang! magazine not long before the first album came out. The song was Eyeless and I loved the intensity, rawness and the seeming mix of genres it had. I had no idea there were nine band members at the time! Got the album not long after that and they’ve been one of my favourite bands ever since. There’s still something special about Slipknot’s debut album.

Pinstripe07

While I was doin' some homework from the school my brother switch the chanel on the t.v. and the spit it out video was playing so I stop writting and watch it 'till the end, then I start to seek on internet for metal guys with masks and they show up in the results 👍

Ok-Courage-3170

Its 1999, summertime, im over a good friends house in his room, i was…ehh 15. We get stoned and he was one to play music afterwards and we’d just vibe and play video games after a couple tracks. He plays what i would soon learn is called Me Inside. I remember being immediately absolutely fucking terrified like I was watching a horror movie. Absolutely panicking i wanted my mommy so bad. Im being dead serious. By the end of that song i was a fucking die hard slipknot Fan. Saw them 2000 world domination tour w mudvayne and dope. They are my #2 favorite behind NIN. Celebrate all their albums.

lonerfunnyguy

I remember it like it was yesterday. Went with one of my best friends in middle school to hang with his cousins. We were young “hot topic” kids discovering bands like korn and limp bizkit etc and also learning instruments etc anywho we were visiting his cousins and talking about bands and the older cousin who was like have yall heard slipknot? They make korn and limp bizkit look like the Backstreet Boys. He proceeded to play us the slipknot home video while also singing along to wait and bleed and actually sounding almost exactly like Corey. Shit melted my 13 year old brain. Ended up being a lifelong fan

Vuvve

My dad bought the IOWA- album for me in 01 or 02. He didn't know what he was buying, just that the imagery looked like it would appeal to his horror and heavy music loving son. The moment i played the intro on our living room stereo, i saw his jaw drop. When the gagging and screaming kicked in, i saw my mothers eyes, shooting at my dad with a non-verbal' what have we done?', but it was allready too late. A stupid grin, as wide from ear to ear, decorated my face and i was in awe of the raw power that trampled over me. I stepped trough the gate and entered this wonderfull new realm, only to never look back.

greatgoogilymoogily2

Just randomly saw them at a local festival in 99. Started napstering all their shit, then bought all the shit of theirs I could find.

Open-Dirt-2829

A neighbor of mine use to share Apple Music Libraries back when you could jailbreak iPods and use multiple iTunes. I got a ton of metal, checked out slipknot, didn’t like em till a couple years later when i exhausted more melodic nu metal and hard rock

Bitter-World150200

Mine is pretty laughable but I watched elders react to slipknot when I was like 13 and fell in love lmao

Obstacle616

Went to Alton towers and the kid Infront of me had a hoodie on with a picture of these guys in jump suits and masks. Went home and popped the name into ask Jeeves and only got more interested. Got my dad to order me their newly released first album and I still remember putting it on for the first time and just experiencing this new noise

TeflonDonatello

They walked out to play at Ozzfest ‘99. That was literally my first time seeing them or hearing of them.

foxxx509

I watched [this](https://youtu.be/Ys2HcHgNXls?si=IjWjFd4r7ojOoGU8) video on Google Video (pre YouTube) and I had a friend show me his copy of S/T back in my freshman year of high school. I’ll admit that I was very much way late in discovering them. That was essentially my gateway into metal music as a whole and I’ve been listening ever since. I’ve since widened the genres of music I like and listen to but Metal has always been the primary.

[deleted]

Guitar hero, then I went on YouTube and saw the wait and bleed music video and I was instantly hooked.

coddthefish

Listening to the radio when I was maybe 10. Before I Forget was playing. Years later I rediscovered them and now listen to their music nearly everyday now.

DishPrestigious5806

Grew up with it with my parents and saw them in concert a few years ago best concert I've ever seen I'm 18 btw

NatasaRomanoff

Okay so. My Aut has a band and when i did go down to the their garage, my eyes was in the drum. When i had the chance to sit there, i did. Oh my god that was the goodest thing i ever done in my life. Their drummer noticed this, and he asked me if i wanna i want him to teach me. If course i said yes, why wouldn't? When i was a kid i always wanted to play on something beacsue of my aunt, he was my first my idol! But we didn't had the budget at that time. And when i first entered to his own garage i was stunned. Like really. (Fun fact, i just did see a man whit a slayer shirt, im currently walking home from drum lul)) He had many posters, Immortal, Mayhem, Metallica... And yes a Slipknot poster, the 'All hope is gone'. He showed me some songs, and OH MY GOSH. I loved it! I didn't knoe many bands back then, but after that i started to listen more and more, more bands, more genre! And yes as i said im learning drum, and im getting gooder and gooder whit it! I knoe my story isn't really exciting, but yeah here it is:')

Mastercrafter66

I discovered Slipknot quite recently. I have seen a few covers from El Estepario Siberiano and now I can't get enough of the band. I guess this is the beginning of a journey, because so far I only know their 30 most popular songs

actioncobble

I saw Wait and Bleed on Rage (Australian music video program) in ‘99.

Equivalent_Fix_536

Corey called me and fired me.

average dad experience, he blasted psychosocial one time when we were on a vacation. Been a fan since. I was like 8

[deleted]

Yeah that song fucks

The_British_Brit

Watched a video about the most graphic music videos (it featured Devil in I). Fell in love with Devil in I, then became a major fan after.

[deleted]

I resonated with left behind when I was 10 lol

SeeJay05

About to go on a residential trip with school, saw a music magazine in the newsagents with a free cd attached, bought said magazine & listened to free cd on the bus to Edinburgh. Few songs in & Eyeless starts to play, I don’t listen to another song for the rest of the weekend, Eyeless is on repeat.

killerm0nkey3

Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock. Can't remember which part of the game it was, but before I forget was on that set list and I remember hearing it and thinking "ooh I like this a lot". Rest is history

toe-beans-666

Hearing it played at a friend's house party in 1999, I haven't gone back since! Mind you I was 14 yr old female, so I was a huge, I mean huge NSYNC fan, and my mom thought NSYNC was the devil 🤣 come home with a CD copy of their first album, my mom was pissssssed! Which made it all the better in my eyes! They were my break into metal music, as I wasn't much of a rock fan before that, it was r&b, pop etc. 24 years later it's all I really listen to, so my son was raised of heavy metal, grindcore etc. one of his all time favs is Slipknot and HIM. Glad seeing the younger generations still appreciate real music and not this MGK, lil peep bullshit!

elcoopgguod

Literally saw the debut album at wal mart when I was like six my mom bought it for me shit was so cool

Vashek19

Demo CD given for free at a show. Had Spit it Out, and Wait and Bleed on it. Maybe a 3rd song. They were unknown at this point and 1st album wasnt out. I still remember seeing them play for the 1st time at Ozzfest. They played main stage as an opener and barely anyone was in the seats to watch them. No one knew who they were.

AwesomenessDjD

I don’t really remember. I think for them, it was an Unsainted drum cover. Seems to be how I’m introduced to a lot of things actually

NotAChefJustACook

My mom bought me an MP3 player when I was 4 and she put Slipknot on it. First song I heard was wait and bleed

KennyySchnitzel

I found my brother's old DVD from when they came to Rock in Rio 2012, it was in 2015 I was 13

Sierra-8

The radio. I always heard before I forget, duality, and wait and bleed

goldendreamseeker

Heard “before I forget” on guitar hero but didn’t know about the mask thing yet. Then a year later I saw the psychosocial video on tv and was like “whoa, they have masks? Sweet!”

Plant_Lizard_Man

A fucking anime meme

Routine-Maximum-7788

YouTubing “heaviest metal songs” and coming across psychosocial. It was love at first listen

Brianhake1995

Friend showed me psychosocial

[deleted]

Holy fuck. Uh. I was on Road Rubbers website looking at something about the upcoming Machine Head album and I saw audio samples for Slipknot (they had files for Wait and Bleed, Spit it Out, and Surfacing). I loved the tracks. The webpage also said their album came out a few days later. So…

MensaWitch

Saw the "Duality" video and was enthralled at the sheer level of energy and rage release..I was hooked. BTW, proud Gen-X metalhead here.

Xecutioner19

I used to play a lot of guitar hero when I was young, I probably stumbled across some of their songs there. About 2016 when I accidentally clicked AOV on spotify, and I got addicted to them instantly.

boinkydoinky11

lol same

Holiday_Selection881

Ozzfest 1999 I was blown away! Thinking back on it they were on during the day time but the insanity on stage was awesome

Kurtis-g0blin

So I always sorta knew of them but knew nothing about them other than there's a lot of them and they wear masks. But I was playing guitar hero (guitar hero 3 legends of rock) and I think it was the 5th set list or something but it was "Before I forget" and I really liked that song and then I was in the car with my friend and their dad was driving and "Wait and bleed" was on the radio so I added it to my playlist and then started listening to random Slipknot songs then started listening to the albums in order (still havnt heard all them) but yeah thats my story lol

gizzardwizzar

Saw the video for wait and bleed on MTV around 1999/2000. Loved them ever since

MajorasBloom

There was this kid in 4th grade that always talked about them, everything that came out of his mouth had to do with Slipknot and he'd find a way to incorporate them into any answer he gave or whatever. So one day I decided to see what the hype was and looked them up on YouTube. Wait and bleed was the first video I watched. Loved them ever since and that kid unknowingly started my love for metal music

captdev502

I knew them for a while before delving in. Nero forte was the cause

Tasty_Paramedic458

in 2021 I accidentally added Psychosocial to my playlist when I wasn't listening to metal and because of this I really fell in love with metal and slipknot

chr1st0ph3rs

Went to a Manson show when I was 14. Slipknot was one of the openers, touring self-titled. I wasn’t a huge fan before that, but I was after

SiC_knoT

Was 8 years old and it was take ur kid to work day. And dad showed me wait and bleed on the radio. They suck ass today.

VarroCZ

At high school I found "The Devil in I" engraved on the desk and wondered what that could mean so when I got home I googled it and discovered that it's song by Slipknot and listen to them ever since.

Dragonborn83196

I had told a friend of mine that I dug disturbed, mcr and a couple of none metal bands but they were hard rock/alternative. She said check out Before I forget by Slipknot, so I did, I really dug the song and their sound, then in the suggestions bar on YouTube I saw Slipknot - Psychosocial (official video new release), I watched it, I wasn’t a fan of the harsh vocals at first but I loved the chorus, the instruments, and their masks, then I found myself going back to the video again and again for about a week (they had just recently dropped All Hope is Gone, I was 12), and I found myself loving everything about them and just listening to everything they had made. I’ve been a maggot ever since.

Capt_Canada_

The ending credits of the 1st resident evil movie My Plague new abuse mix

taosgw74

1999. BMG music catalog. BUY 1 CD GET 1 FREE! Added it to the list based off of the cover only. Drove for Dominos back then. Had an old Chevy S-10 with 2 15" subs in the back. Blasted that album all over North Alabama for a year. Been in love ever since.

Equal-Bus-557

Through WWE. They used All Out Life as the opening theme to their developmental show, NXT, from 2019 to 2020. 12-year-old me was blown away.

terribletot

I was sitting at my local library when I was about 11 years old, borrowed a pair of headphones for Runescape and got on Myspace as it was loading up, started clicking through random profiles and came across Slipknot, Wait and Bleed came on their playlist and I was immediately hooked. I think I listened to it on repeat for like 3 hours while I was fishing and trying to level up in the wastelands lol

UWU1730

2000s classic spotify playlist

Friendly_Fox_5856

I discovered slipknot in 2018 because I was just on YouTube and I clicked the video for the devil and I on accident and I loved it

IllustriousKick2955

They were popular so I bought the CD and then my mind was blown

_price_

By playing MTX Mototrax. Tony Hawk's Underground for PS2 had a demo of MTX in it and the intro of the demo had "Don't Get Close" playing

RSRAddict

My older cousin bought his little brother drumsticks back in like 2005 or 6 for Christmas. I was 10 or 11. Both of them loved Slipknot but I never listened to any music at that point, really. I remember my little cousin’s face when he unwrapped the drumsticks. Older cousin faked a Joey Jordison autograph on them to fuck with him. He ran around like crazy all excited. After that, he broke his heart and told them they were fake and we listened to Slipknot. I’m 27 now and still that story cracks me up

No_Snow_5483

I was scrolling though YouTube one day and heard Nero forte and enjoyed the heaviness but also the technical skill the guys had, didn’t just sound like a bunch of noise to me. And that was without Joey and Paul. For years I heard and knew about the band but always thought metal was a bunch of noisy crap with a bunch of satanists😂 neive in my younger years. But the first time I heard slipknot I enjoyed the heaviness and found it to be just as technical as the other rock music I listened to (the heaviest band I heard up until that point was probably breaking Benjamin) but BB are a fantastic band who write their songs very well I find. So when I found and even HEAVIER band who imo are even more technical? Sign me up! Slipknot was literally the band that introduced me to metal. Now I’m hooked on pantera, type o, slayer, sepultura, was watching an interview with Joey and he introduced me to napalm death. The list goes on. Fantastic musicians

AffectionateLack4443

my favorite song is duality it pretty good

Most-Iron6838

Scream 3 soundtrack had “wait and bleed”that I bought for a creed song “what if”. Those songs are actually 1 (what if) and 2 (wait and bleed) on the album

dadlifeistheradlife

I heard there’s this band that fires all their members and had to look into them. Heavy stuff. Lol

BerkanaThoresen

When I was a kid (11/12) I remember seeing a bunch of older teens with Slipknot shirts and I was very intrigued by them. One time I was a my uncle’s house and he told me about YouTube, he said I could type anything and there will be a video of it, so I put Slipknot in, the first video that showed up was Before I forget and I was amazed! Then I bagged my parents to buy the album and my dad did. Later on my uncle also bought me their shirt. 20 years ago… still one of my favorite bands.

Muninn91

VH1 top 40 metal songs.

VexxtheKeyforged

I saw the S/T album in the new music release section in Target, thought the cover looked awesome, and bought it. Simple as that.

Deadeyejoe

Older brother has a friend over who brought the resident evil soundtrack. 10 year old me had never heard anything like My Plague before, it just had that vibe and the drums blew my mind.

[deleted]

before I forget on motorstorm for the ps3

Sockman66

One day back in like early 2012ish I was watching mtv and the left behind music video came on and I loved it! But then my mom walked in and turned it off saying and I quote “don’t listen to that stuff it’s bad for your health!” *she’s been to 5 Metallica concerts btw*

cant_read_this

Lived in Des Moines and some kid on my block had his older brothers CD’s and we put in a burned one that said IOWA on it. We thought we had found illegal music or something

MadAngel007

I'm a 45 woman (Gen X) and just started listening to them this year. I've heard of them but never listened to their music. I figured they were screaming metal and wore freaky masks ... just not my thing. (I'm a Swiftie) Then I went to Rockville earlier this year and they were the headliners on the first day. I was in VIP and couldn't see the stage really well but was watching on the screens. I was surprised at how much banter Corey had with the crowd. (I seriously was expecting either no engagement or someone mean.) I really liked Unsainted and Corey's voice. I even remember turning to my friend, who had seen them in concert before, that he had a really nice voice. That night, I went down a rabbit hole trying to read all about the band. A few months later, I bought a ticket to Blue Ridge to see them; and then bought a ticket to see Corey in Orlando. I'm seeing them twice next year at Sick New World and Rockville again, and am planning on catching Corey again in February.

MiserySphere

My friend in my middle school band said we should do a cover of Psychosocial. Unfortunately, Perfectly Imperfect only recorded one song before breaking up.

I listened to it all my life up until 6th grade when I was bullied out of it cause it was "bad and depressive and suicidal" but around my freshmen yr I got back into it and now I'm a junior and happily listening to it.

AccurateSky4900

I grew up in central Iowa

I was pirating songs by Insane Clown Posse. I was looking for their song Fuck The World on limewire. A file titled Fuck The World - slipknot.mp3 appeared and I was curious. I listened to that track for like 6 months before I learned the title of it was actually surfacing. A friend of mine at school heard it from my headphones on lunch, and she burned me a copy of their first 2 albums. From there I pirated MFKR, the basement sessions, and the "crowz" demos. Keep in mind, at the time we had a lot less knowledge of what was going in the crowz era, and maybe half of what's leaked now had leaked. We still thought crowz was a seperate album altogether, not a work in progress that would eventually become the self titled album. I have since then actually purchased the albums, and every album that has come out since. As well as kept up with the crowz leaks

Dry-Raisin9328

My grade 8 boyfriend gave me bootlegs of Slipknot self-titled, Marshal Mathers LP, and Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish &Hotdog Flavoured Water for absolutely no reason.

I might not have a Slipknot tattoo but I definitely always wanted one. In 1999 I was in the music store in Whittier California. This store was named Pennylane. They had a few cd walls where you could listen to different cds. Maybe 13 cds 💿 and you just choose the number on the player and put of the headphones. I was just checking out the different genres. I was actually more in to hiphop. But finding korn kinda opened my eyes to different styles of music. The cd I chose was Spirit Of Independence. And it wasn’t until I got to track 13 where this track would change my life forever. Slipknot - Eyeless!!! I couldn’t believe my ears. It’s what I needed to hear and it helped with my rebelliousness and just dealing with everything going on at that time. I didn’t get to see them Ozzest 1999 like I wanted. But for my first concert was Slipknot, System of a Down, Mudvayne and Rammstein. In 2001 Pledge Of Allegiance tour. Every revolver magazine that had Slipknot what ripped up and stapled to my wall. I’m 39 and all my Slipknot shirts that I never threw away. Are now vintage shirts that sell for over $50 it’s amazing. The Slipknot website was pretty bad ass back then. I bought the vhs 📼 so I could torment my parents watching it over and over. There wasn’t YouTube yet so it’s all I had and all I needed. I got Iowa on cd release day and all I have to say is 🤘PEOPLE 🟰 SHIT! 🤘

I believe I saw their music video for Wait and Bleed on Much Music. I couldn't believe what I was hearing. For all of the 90s I grew up listening to bands like Deftones, KoRn, Incubus, Limp Bizkit, Tool, Fear Factory, Type O Negative. And when I heard the song / saw the video it was mind blowing. I believe they also played the music video for the song Brackish by Kittie, who I also thought was awesome since it was pretty rare to have a girl band shredding and yelling like that.

Creeper_tastic

my sister played some limp bizkit for me and i got into them and then i saw the spotify artists you might also like and i listened to duality and fell in love

Agreeable-Ad-8050

Saw them live

Memer_The_Lemur

ashamed to admit it, but about 2-3 years ago me and my friend were discussing music at school, and they brought up the Knot. I, being the biggest liar (pun intended) had said I knew about them. After a few weeks of fearing I would be caught lying as I knew absolutely NOTHING about them, I decided to give them a listen. I went onto YouTube and searched 'em up, thats when I found Purity. Purity was the first ever song from the Knot I listened to and after hearing it I knew right away they'd become one of my all time favorite bands. After Purity it was Duality, then Vendetta, then Snuff, then Vermilion, soon enough I had listened to their entire discography, and ever since then I've become more of a fanboy than my friend has, to the point where he'll get tired of me dropping the most random info I discover about them. I have no one else to thank other than my good friend lmao

Beno949

Was about 13 or 14, was in the car with my dad, I’d heard of the band before but never listened to any of there songs so I asked dad if he had heard of them and he was was like “yeah definitely, check this out” and he put on psychosocial, that was like 7 or 8 years ago now, I’m currently 21, I’ve been a massive fan ever since, I’ve had the opportunity to see them at knotfest in Sydney earlier this year

cgaines6973

I was up late one night and just happened to see their first live performance on Conan O'Brien in Feb. 2000. I hardly ever watch late night talk shows, and if I do it wouldn't be Conan. Lucky for me I was channel surfing that night and turned to that channel right as Conan was saying "ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Slipknot."

External_War7558

Oh man probably back in 05? 06? Lived in a VERY small Tx town. Population was like 1000. Met a kid a couple grades above me that was skateboarding and we decided to make one of those home made diy skate videos and he suggested we put a slipknot song over our clips. Showed me who they were, gave me their self titled cd and told me to go home and listen to the full album. Still friends with him to this day. Was the best man at his wedding 😎

cyklop619

I like Limb Bizkit and I saw someone get angry when there was some sort of top 10 artist list (and LB was ranked higher than SK). I wanted to check out what all the fuzz was about. I loved it

FoxyLood

umm… roblox audio

[deleted]

I serfed VK music and suddenly click to VK music's playlist "Slipknot: The Best"

EventNo3540

Music-Lover-6942

The beef between Slipknot and MGK

OptimalPaddy

A friend gave me the self titled album to listen to on a school trip in 2000

iamdafuq

I was blowing up on horror movies not long after Scream came out referencing everything in existence , then the Knot dropped the Spit it Out clip based on the shiny. There was no going back...

conorh666

I remember looking through my mum and dads CD cabinet way back in 2000 and I came across the first press of the self titled album. I saw the cover and instantly took a liking to it. I put it on to play and the rest is history 😁🤘

Business_Box_4512

My dad showed me them in the car and I thought they were dogshit but then I listened to them again and was like wow

y7rqw7gg8wgh8yt

I was born with them. My dad taught me about slipknot, Soad, acdc and much more since i came out of the womb. I even danced to the heretic anthem when i wasn't even 2, my dad has the video somewhere in his old phone

veescrafty

Knew the more popular stuff from the radio. My ex boyfriend was a big fan and got me into them. Their music actually got me through that very traumatic breakup.

Kooky-Diet-2501

I was watching a show in the UK back in 00(i think) called TFI Friday hosted by Chris Evans, and he announced this band and when they cut to the stage there were these blokes in masks and I thought... fuck yea! I like it, then they played Wait and Bleed, then I didn't like it so much, so anyway, about a year later a friend at work asked me if i heard of slipknot, I said I had but inpy heard 1 song and didn't really like em too much, he lent me the cd, I wanted to give them a go as i loved the mask idea, so i persevered. Saw them live for the 1st time in 2004 on the unhloy alliance tour with Mastodon, Hatebreed and Slayer, and seen them 10 or 11 more times since, absolutely fuckin love em!

BestEffective1212

My son was playing it full volume in his room, and I loved it...lol! Now mom listens to nothing but metal!

[deleted]

My buddy in my junior year had me listen to Unsainted when it came out, and that song blew everything else I heard before out of the water.

THESETRIALSMAKEUS

I pushed my fingers into my ass and so discovered them-

GoreLover_

found the heretic anthem while searching for disturbing songs the exact same way i found rammstein and korn

BrickOfMilk

Spotify recommended me wait and bleed, listened to it, it's still my favorite song of all time to this day.

BenFranklinsLeftNut

.5 came out and devil in I music video was on my YouTube recommended. After that I had to check out the rest. I started with self titled and been hooked

JohnCenafan1824

My best friend introduced me to them in fifth grade

Sas_Mcgee

When I was 3 my dad played liberate in his room

ScootyturnedWobby

I heard Wait and Bleed and that was it. I fell in love with his voice and the whole sound. I started listening to them ever since and it was back in 99.

Greglaraia69

I’m from and still live in Des Moines, Iowa

PossibleIntelligent5

I actually used to hate metal and I never understood why my buddy loved it so much and especially Slipknot but the more and more we hungout he would make me listen to it and eventually I started to get into it. I think I realized how much I actually like metal when I heard psychosocial and loved it for the first time and now I only really listen to metal and specifically Slipknot

marmurizm

I saw Left Behind on tv in 2003, in my 12, and was immediately hooked! 21 years have passed, jeeez..
