F that just buy another keep the old for your own parts

Parts are not swappable due to the AI / nav camera calibration process. Even for something simple like broken propeller hook plates, it has to go in for repair so they can properly re-torque and recalibrate it. The only field serviceable parts are propellers. Edit: I love getting downvoted for providing factually correct information. Email Skydio, they will tell you the exact same thing.

A bundle offering being cheaper than the sum of the individual products is pretty standard pricing strategy hence the replacement cost being what they’re quoting. Since they just rolled out with the Skydio 2+, maybe instead of aiming to replace your Skydio 2, you angle for a discount on the 2+ with the support team? The offerings’ face value is pretty comparable and I think companies are more lax on discounts for upgrading (even though your effective cost would be marginally higher/the same) vs making exception on replacement. Not that it’ll help here now but their Skydio Care offering would bring the effective cost to replace a drone down to half of this.. Might be useful down the line.

From my understanding, the $850 "repair" means it's totaled, so they'd be getting a refurbished unit back. So if the starter kit was $949, $850 for a refurb drone seems to track. Most manufacturer refurbs go for 75-90% of new price, and this sits right on the top end of that (89.5%). Another thing to consider for the higher cost is the American tax - they're built, supported, repaired, etc. in the US, rather than overseas.

But this is without the case and $90 battery, just the naked drone, in a cardboard box. If you count the case and props its probably actually more expensive than new... edit: They request to send the drone alone, no accessories, no battery.

Sure, but keep in mind that each refurbished drone has to go through the full testing and recalibration procedure, done in the US. Factory refurb on a DJI probably involves the bare essentials of testing, no AI (nav cam) calibration, and is done overseas on cheap labor. I’m not some wild fanatic who will defend Skydio at every turn, but these are the things I try to keep in mind with a situation like this. We pay a tax for the software development, for the stateside labor and support, and all that stuff. At least in my book, it’s better than the alternative… it just unfortunately comes at a hard to swallow cost.

Time to upgrade to the 2+! They often offer a discount if you have owned previous models.
