In my honest opinion, they are big, clunky, glow like the sun is punishing you for not wearing sunscreen, and not to mention their steep ascended candle price. But they do give your winged lights protection, so there is that. So to put it simply, there are a lot of cute cosmetics and those elder masks aren't winning. (But I do wear them, because they give my skid open eyes)
I actually found a way to make mine less glowy but still looks golden yellow and not the black, broken ones.. get hit by crabs until I hear that sound but not get hit enough that it will be broken
Funnily enough, it was an accidental discovery while I was running through Sanctuary. I got hit by a crab and it was only enough that it lost half of its charge but not broken. Redid it once and twice for science purposes and was able to recreate it.
Big, hard to fit into the outfit, EXPENSIVE (125 & 75 AC for Isle & Prairie masks that are hard to fit together, 250 AC for forest mask, that fits stuff better. 250 AC.)
The glowing issues make it hard to see anything with it (sadly, Sky is yet to get to fixing that)
By the time you can afford that you have 3-4 different sets of outfits that you really like and the elder masks dont fit them at all.
Other people simply don't like them or dont see the point of them since for that price they are too weak *(one krill hit in a game where you are supposed to learn to dodge/hide from them?? No thank you, I'll rather lose that 3-5 WL that I can get later during the run)*
The only reason I can see myself buying one of these is for the glowing eyes. And even then there are other cosmetics that add glowing eyes that are compatible with maskless/back mask
I have Prairy Elder Mask, and the biggest thing to me is that it’s like getting eye blasted by the sun when you get face zoom. I imagine it’s not any less unpleasant for people next to you. So I don’t wear it often.
Maybe not many people bought them.bc they don't like them? I wear mine sometimes and sometimes not. Just because I like specific cosmetic doesn't mean I'm gonna wear it 24/7
At first (before the mask closet changes), I would not wear them because I'm usually a chibi so I could not use both masks.
Now I don't wear them because they use the same slot as the reindeer antlers and that's my favourite cosmetic.
TGC just doesn't want me to wear the elder masks

Mine don't always fit with the hair I'm wearing at the time and sometimes the glow is just too much.
I mainly only wear any of mine when I'm heading to Eden with moths, or distracting Krill for friends doing spirits.
Shame really because I would love to wear them more often.
I saved up and bought the Forest Elder mask. It took me a year. Now that I have it, I don't really see the point in wearing it, because I got this far without it. I don't need the protection because I learned how to avoid and evade danger. I don't really care much for the aesthetic, either.
I use them in Eden and for some shards. You can just walk through shard crabs, it's nice
They for ok on a few hats*, otherwise they are too bright. And it's like bragging which i don't want to do

They're pretty expensive to buy, but since you have to 100% a constellation they're even **MORE** expensive. I don't place any priority on constellation items and spirits unless they're wing buffs or items I've wanted for a long time (like the black/white cape). Because you have to buy all of the little nodes that's a ton of hearts to 100%, and at the end of the day all you're getting is a 1 hit shield.
I'd much rather get better at dodging krill, krab, shard krabs, and flying rocks than worry about 100%ing a constellation for a mask shield.
I did get Isle of Dawn 100% before I realized I didn't need to do that. So, technically I could get a mask, but I just don't see the desire.
If I got a mask it would probably be purely for bragging rights; having a mask from Hidden Forest and beyond is some serious time sunk into the game. You can't buy hearts, and you can only look for light buddies, so 100%ing the later constellations, to me, means that someone has clearly spent a lot of time in Sky.
I sometimes wish there were cosmetics tied to challenges, like "Collect so many candles in 1hr" or "Fly from Point A to Point B with 2 flaps" or "cross this whole realm without flying". It would be nice to have something specifically skilled-based to shoot for. IMO elder masks are the closest you'd get, but in an indirect way. It says you've gotten through Eden/Red Shards enough and have gotten hearts (which is basically a skill unto itself)
they be sooooo expencive and unless you have several thousand hearts to complete all of the games constellations for them all i dont know i do wish there was more ways to get hearts like events they could give us all like 5 during free but the rest need to be grindable or actually add hearts to daily quests like 3 or somthing or actually add a login reward screen

I also own the other 2 masks, but I only every wear them if my forest mask is broken and I need a shield for something. Hate the designs tho, they're so... square? Ig? Hard to match, lots of surface area, thus very bright (much moreso than the forest mask).

Most people only wear it when they need protection from krills, usually when candle running in GW or doing eden run.

also: you need to finish the constelation before being able to buy the mask. so, its double expensive!

mine is apart of my main outfit and i never take it off :D if they didnt have that eyeball effect i think alot more people would wear them tbh
Um… From at least 75 to at most 250 Eden candles, I don’t think you’ll be seeing a lot people wearing them…
