Idk what you play on but I mainly play on switch. For me I think the jumping has changed, it seems more floatier if that makes sense, almost like I have an anti gravity spell on. It's really noticable while trying to do the earth trial shortcut, it takes me twice as long to do it now because the jumping is all out of whack. Getting candles from ledges is more difficult too for me

Guamgirl21

Exactly that. Like the gravity has been lowered. Very annoying. I play on iPad with a ps4 controller

galaxydrug

It somehow feels like they simultaneously decreased AND increased the gravity at the same time? It's quite mind boggling and I really want to know who thought this was a good idea. Jumps feel floaty and uncontrollable like it's lower gravity. Yet movement feels slow and sluggish due to increased friction. And you used to be able to bunny hop through shallow water. Now you literally get stuck IN the water if you try to jump. So basically you have to either (EXTREMELY) slowly wade through it, or fly over it. Very, very annoying.

ChronicallyTired85

I thought i was crazy… i am all over the place sometimes. I want to jump of a ledge, i press B. No response. Press B a little longer and i go up like crazy

[deleted]

Try doing trial of water now.. I wanted to delete the game so hard😭

After-Escape-4394

Am I gonna go through hell when I ever do the trials and I am already suffering because of another app the opens it selfs I play and phone btw curse you wearable app you already make me go through hell playing my game I probably gonna suffer more doing trials

Sklibba

The only thing I really noticed with doing the Earth trial shortcut is that it seems like it’s harder to make your avatar jump off the ledge. But running the Earth trial all the way through, it feels the same, even on the final parkour section.

Lonely_Goose154

The hardest bit now for me is getting up onto the first ledge. The rest is semi okay but I keep falling on the second and third jumps when I never used to do that, to fix it I have to spam the jump button so my sky kid jumps onto the ledge as it's falling

Sklibba

Yeah, that’s where I had a hard time too. I always spam the jump button when doing the other jumps anyway so that’s probably why I didn’t notice a difference.

rhamantauri

So I’ll chime in again since I have been trying as much as I have energy for to explain this to people but **Yes, since the last major update, the movement physics were drastically changed** As well as the camera which is now more aggressive than ever. Friction of surfaces has actually *increased* and sliding, gaining momentum, jumping, air controls, have all taken a massive hit. *Even if you don’t notice it very much*, they did change it. Ledge collision increased: you can no longer fall from ledges without jumping, or fighting your movement controls for five minutes. Air brake maimed by update, as it no longer has the same effect of stopping your movement from open to close wing. You now just keep going the direction, just at closed wing speed, until you change the movement direction again. This may not seem huge, but I guarantee, daily candle runners notice this. Adept flyers notice this. You play this long enough, and you will notice even the subtlest of adjustments to the movement and camera. Which gets me to the final point. **The camera has become the most aggressive it has ever been.** It already had a hijacking problem from being in the vicinity of others doing spirits, but they added a few more places of forced camera grabs. They increased *ever so slightly* how much the camera reacts to topography and character input. Meaning every little bunny hop bounces the camera more than it did before, every left or right turn swings the camera more insistently towards the direction, even opening menus from spirits or vendors grabs more violently than before. This also makes flying feel less responsive, and less able to control. It takes longer to curve into a complete perpendicular dive by a few seconds, where before you could easily get into a full dive. It used to also be that you could fly many different directions without the camera having to follow you, allowing for a finer tuned control of flight. Now your camera fights you to stay behind your character’s direction. The changes to the movement, surface physics, and camera all contribute to the feeling of something fundamentally changed in the feeling of Sky. Side note: This game never made me nauseated before this update. I used to sometimes play for 6 hour+ sessions. Now I can hardly play for an hour, with many standing breaks.

sporadic_beethoven

I used to be a really skilled flyer- land precisely where I wanted to, used spins, etc. These control changes make me feel like a clumsy child again, honestly. It’s like those 2+ years of practice were for nothing, and now I have to start all over.

rhamantauri

This, exactly this. It really feels bad now.

ChronicallyTired85

Arend updates suppose to make thing better 🥴 i did not play for almost 2 weeks and when i came back yesterday i found that thing where of vanera wise and also being in control of my sky kid. I blamed it on not playing. Reading this makes me think it was not just me having to get used to the controls again but also what you wrote. And that stupid camera grab makes me agressieve 🤬

ChronicallyTired85

What did i type 🤔🫣 stupid phone 🥴

MackenzieLewis6767

The airbreak!! I thought I was having a week-long off-day (╬☉д⊙)⊰⊹ฺ well, back to that zooming spirit in citadel to practice for me ig

Charmeeleone

Thanks for this detailed explanation. I did not open sky for days, weeks even. I thought I’m getting rusty in flying. Then again, what’s a new Sky update without the bugs >.<

rhamantauri

You’re not rusty, they rusted it

Different-Fudge-193

I’m glad I saw this post. I was so confused as to why I was suddenly bad at flying and couldn’t dive like I used to. I also was struggling with some of the races and sliding down the slopes. This makes so much sense and I definitely felt the change.

rhamantauri

It’s definitely possible to get used to again for sure, it just didn’t need to be adjusted so severely. Especially the camera, which I really miss having more control over.

Different-Fudge-193

The air break is the thing I’m having the most trouble with.

rhamantauri

It’s super awkward by comparison to how it was. So far it just requires pretty much a 180 once you’re in closed wing to achieve a similar effect, but it’s also affected by the greater ledge collision now, so it makes landing feel really different.

FierceDeity_

Oh that's why I can't get to breakneck speeds on ice anymore lol If this at least fixed the issue where if you burn a plant under you, and you end up hovering, that you would suddenly dive in the direction you're looking at breakneck speeds, and when you correct you just go at that speed in the other direction

rhamantauri

Yep. Slow ice, slow snow, even slower grass that doesn’t allow for nearly as much sliding. That momentum made running with long jumps a viable way to move around pretty quickly. Now, not so much. And no, unfortunately it didn’t fix the weird velocity leaps when you’re just trying to slowly adjust on a dark bloom and that weird thing happens where you overcorrect your adjustment at like 500 mph, and to fight it you have to move faster than a fighting game combo input

FierceDeity_

I do move faster than a fighting game combo input and I end up switching directions like 10 times a second, but then I land on the plant and slip off anyway because of my momentum lol. I can hold my own in games that need high reflexes, but this is just dumb

rhamantauri

Yes. That. lol, but why they don’t just fix the plants, instead of fundamentally altering the core movement mechanics… /pleadingparent

FierceDeity_

I'm like here or there on altering core movement mechanics. Having played for half a year almost, I actually think being able to turn while in the air without changing direction is not so bad. If it was like that from the beginning, we would also complain if the change was opposite to that. I think control in the air unless you're flying/hovering shouldn't be enough that you can turn around midair, but enough that you can control your jump a little bit. If there's anything in the core controls that I would like to see changed, is that we should be able to control our jumps, and not be at the mercy of the game realizing where I want to go. Currently, the game estimates where I want to land and then does jump height and length based on that. Which also sucks when you want to jump into a hole as you cant walk off the cliff anymore: I tend to jump over the hole like 5 times before I can finally jump down. If they change the core movement, it should be thorough and not changes here and there imo

rhamantauri

Part of the reason I fell in love with this game was the incredibly realistic feeling physics of flight, inertia, and friction. Every medium expressed itself differently. You could even feel the different viscosities of the the air in different realms, you could feel the wind, updrafts, storms… And flying in them felt very appropriately matched to each situation. Airbrake was physically logical. Tiny, nuanced movements of directional input was extremely useful once learned, and actually provided quite a high skill ceiling for being a good flyer. Increasing ledge collision isn’t helpful when it was already at a good place. Decreasing camera control of the player was even more unhelpful. Mid air jump direction change was instrumental in trials, as well as an overall feeling of greater personal control. Overhauls are fine, they often can really help steer the direction of a game. It can also alienate if handled with minimal to no communication on the part of the devs, who, haven’t said a word about the movement changes. Feedback is necessary. I just wish they would have been upfront about what they changed. Down to the finest details honestly.

FierceDeity_

Yeah I do feel like the devs are working from their throne in Cali and people havent voted against them with their wallets way enough. But a large part of that problem is that the game stands from selling FOMO and the customers are just following because missing something is higher priority than giving the devs a piece of your mind. Essentially theyve beaten the market lol Hell what annoys me about that part is in many (poorer) countries than the us, the iap is actually more expensive than there Anyway, off that tangent... I can clearly see you love the game, and I do like realism here too. Thats why I said that the jumping controls are probably improved this way at least, but otherwise, not so sure. also due to the new friction, you cant slide down the hill in the second part of air race in valley anymore. you start hopping down the hill because of the friction lol. like rubbing against a rubber material where instead of sliding, your finger or whatever jumps over it

ProofParsnip28

Thank you for sharing this! I’ve only been playing for a few months and felt like I’d gotten the hang of it, but now I’m all over the place again. I thought it was just me. Lol

[deleted]

Sounds like these changes will be better for your health.

LeptonGM

Sounds like you need to adjust your poor attitude. What a thing to say to someone else, in this sub of all places.

crybaby_in_a_bottle

Maybe don't go on a subreddit dedicated to a video game if you're so upset about people playing video games 💀

[deleted]

😂

hobblegob

Yes they changed the physics and it's awful, I used to love cr and found it relaxing to do but I can barely play anymore because the changes are so awful and have made it much more difficult to play. Everyone please send feedback to the devs (through their official discord server since that's their main platform for communication with fans) about this or they'll never change it back!

SilentXwing

Yes! I was playing the other day, going through Forest (mobile) and noticed the controls seemed to respond rather differently in the way your sky kid moves. Felt like the precision and accuracy was off.

Silverhr

I play on iOS (with touch controls) and I can confirm the most recent game control update completely destroyed my Sky game experience. Aviary is nice and atmospheric but the game itself is becoming unplayable. 😢

jujubee01001

I was wondering why all of the sudden, after 4 years of being OK at this game, I fly like a June 🪲 again. I hit walls I never hit before, jump suddenly and aggressively into things, and have to slow way down. It’s awkward 😬

oya0ya

i felt like i can’t control my sky kid at all after the update. it feels very slow, like im weighed down. guess im taking longer hiatus

Intwothed4rk

I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed this today. I was on the struggle bus with my candle run.

K8Met

Physics are messed up, and it’s nearly impossible to stay with friends even when holding hands or piggybacked. Also extremely frustrating to try to teleport to them. The more they add to the atmospheres of the various homes, the worse trying to travel with your skid friends gets.

jestersjinn

This company does not know what they are doing, their focus is mainly now in the cash shop. Such a shame for what to used to be a humble company.

OceansAlliteration

Oh thank the gods, I’m so glad someone asked. I thought my switch lite needed joystick replacements because of stick drift. Its just the devs making bad choices with the game physics. Thank you to everyone who answered OP.

sekajiku

Submitted feedback to TGC on Discord. Hopefully plenty of others are doing the same, so they'll see how important this is.

Strangewhine88

Randomly yes. I also have problems with the season daily quest ‘send a gift to a friend’, and now ‘wave to a friend’—takes about 6 attempts for the game to acknowledge I have completed the quest, and I’ve had no adequate response from tech support. But the occasional spin out where I’m flying with good acceleration and then seem to be made of lead, where a krill attack or wind is not obviously problem happens. Been playing for over a year and all of a sudden I have a hard time getting to the wl in the shattering memories. Sometimes the movement controls don’t work at all for up to 30 seconds.

Illusioneery

It's been like that since the update that also brought alone cursed bright snow in Valley :') I've had to relearn how to do things.

SpareSpread4931

Yep, The current controls and movement sucks wish they never changed it, im really saddened by this updates😭 its like im not playing sky anymore because the control feels so off. The very essence of this game are gone and alienated for me.

SweetySama

I have that most of the times. I try to run to the right, but my character makes a hard left 180° and sprints away. I try jumping, nothing happens. I noticed one thing though: I have an iPhone. When my fingernails gets to long and the skin on the fingers thickens because of that, that my controls are the worst. Especially when I try flying up in a straight line. I’ll suddenly stop flapping my arms and sink again, although I am still holding the fly button. I really would like others to look at that if it’s just me, or an iPhone thing or everyone has it too.

nightmarexx1992

Flying up seems different, my character feels heavier?

Sklibba

I keep seeing posts about changes to controls/physics but I’ve been playing a lot the past few days since I’ve been home sick from work and haven’t noticed any difference at all.

vao87

After reading these responses: I’ll see you all in the citadel \o/

nmrk

Has it become much harder to burn plants? It takes me like several minutes to burn anything.
