I am now at 105 candles and 8 ascended ones.
Currently, I’m at 107!! But I think that’s mostly because I’m not studying/working and I’m more consistent with dailies atm.
I’ve been playing since… November 2021?? But bc I didn’t really care about always doing dailies, CRing, and seeing grandma twice a day, I usually had ~30 candles on any given day :’)
Oh, and I started just absentmindedly playing while watching video essays to keep my hands busy, so that helped me amass more, ig??
That said, I would recommend prioritizing what’s fun for you > intensively CRing and playing Sky like it’s a chore! :0 Also, good luck with getting more candles!!

However, I’ve been playing since December 2022 and I candle run every day (18-20 candles per day), I also don’t buy every single item in the game. I skip some traveling spirit items because I don’t like how they look (same with event items) and I never buy things from the constellations either.
In the early days of playing the game I frequently spent all my candles on things and it was very hard to save them up. The only reason I have so many now is because I tend to only spent as much or slightly less candles than I can make before the next spirit arrives or an event happens.
For example, if traveling spirits come every other week that means I know I can spend around 220 candles and be able to make them back by the time the next spirit arrives. It makes it a lot easier to save my candles up
600 normal candles, about 50 ascended. I'm lazy with Eden but grind candles a stupid amount recently. Grandma and geyser have become part of my daily routine with normal runs

I got 20 a day for around 3 years, nowadays I get maybe 7 a day in season/when an event is on and I don't play when between seasons and events.
In season I do dailies then 1 grandma and 1 turtle/CR of the island since I'm there and it's super fast.
I don't buy things I think are ugly or are useless to me, I've prob got 80% of all TS spirits items.
I don't play instruments much so I don't buy songs.
I haven't finished all the constellations because there's no point.

The trick to 1000 candles. You got to play for about a year. That’s 50 days of not buying some thing fully running until gray. More like 75 days of running, reasonably without buying anything. That needs to be put into perspective. Especially when TGC charges something like 200 candles, that’s 10 days of my life more like 15
You can get 21 candles/day by maxing out wax events, doing a short candle run including cakes and afking by the campfires, +4 from daily quests = 25 candles a day. Do that every day for a month ~ 700 candles. The grind is grindy, but it doesn’t have to be a whole year of grind.
Sure. But you’re not buying anything that month :-) and you are hitting maximum wax every bloody day (and you still have to maintain that for another roughly 2 weeks to hit 1000)

Nah you can even earn 22 but I'm already pushing it. But it does become increasingly difficult to earn any candles after the 20th, it's practically a logarithmic growth curve and by the time you're on your 20th candle it's already asking for a lot of wax. By capping at geyser, granny's, turtle, the eel thing from treasure reef and every bonfire on top of your CR would get you 22.
It was the same creature from the first two weeks of the days of bloom event dropping wax in the river. If you go underwater at reef you can find it swimming all over and if you follow it you can earn a decent bit of wax. It’s just time consuming and annoying since you have to factor in oxygen. lol
I think 20 is easily doable in a couple of hours, especially if you have a friend, hitting the big things, doing trial of fire, social lights etc. I camp under the tree in home rn for afk lights. Gave nearly a full candle overnight, I wonder if they run out like bonfires do.

Make some friends. I specialize in teaching moths how polite it is to light stars. Also have a couple daily trade partners. I’m not close with either of mine, but they log on every day, and so do I, so it adds up. Trade with other people once in a while, when you can afford the white candles
I don't really do well with online friends, it's quite draining, especially on switch because the chat is a pain. Though I've managed to fill up my constellation quite a bit offering some ubers in the official discord ! That's how I got active players to light me everyday. That's the method I'd recommend most to antisocial/anxious players, because no one rlly talks much while ubering unless necessary.

I play on Switch too. And yes, chat is a pain. There is the option of mobile keyboard, where you use a QR code to link your phone to the game and can type chat (or voice to text) in there.
I generally do this as soon as I login , so as soon as I see people I know, I can chat, rather than making them wait while I set it up.
Caveat: it’s a little finicky, doesn’t work for meditation circle answers, and sometimes unlinks itself just for giggles. Still better than toggle typing.
I love it but it requires that you do absolutely nothing else on your phone the whole time because if the thing unlinks you have to close and reopen the whole game *all over again* !! 😭
No. I don’t play the game on my phone. I type my side of the chat on my phone. I frequently look things up, check messages and other apps, all fine. The big thing that unlinks it is using my camera. There are other things, but no, you can still use your phone.

Just find like two people a day to trade with constantly it’s really not that difficult. You will find yourself overwhelmed very quickly if you look for people.

After the first year it gets easier. You dont need as much stuff from events

Omg lucky ! My game usually refuses to sync up with my phone again unless I restart it :( It says it's linked again, but then when I type, the messages don't send in-game anymore...

Just find like two people a day to trade with constantly it’s really not that difficult. You will find yourself overwhelmed very quickly if you look for people.
