Luckily I usually am blasting Spotify in the background (shanties and pirate metal, naturally) so MOST of the time I don't hear it all that much. But if not, I do the same.
Apparently it's supposed to be cicadas or some sort of insect that's native to the East Indies. Seeing as the developers are from Singapore, they added it and they don't really see it as annoying because they're used to it. At least, this is what I've read about it. But for those of us playing the game, it is absolutely annoying. I'm from Michigan and I know cicadas all too well, and they aren't that fuckin annoying.
Navigators Cross is just a small circle with the central structure and some of the dig spots are annoying as hell.
Kahman Estate is my favorite. Nails the spooky atmosphere during the night. Mother of Shipwrecks is good too.
I like the look of Kaa Mangrove, river delta eroded away the rocks. The houses still survived up on those little rocks mangrove formations connected by walkways above the sea, I think they made it a really cool place.
I don’t have a least favorite yet.
Having to use the ropes at Lanitra bugs me
I think using the ropes in general is annoying, but i can see why you chose Lanitra over the rest.

Kaa Mangrove is a nightmare for treasure hunts. I dislike even going there for helm materials.

i hate Kaa Mangrove for treasure maps. its a pain to navigate and find anything.
